Spencer . spencer there is major destruction here as youve seen from our coverage throughout the week. But not everything at journeys end is a total loss. The destruction is vast here, and we know theyve found at least one body here this morning. And there could be more. I spoke with a man who lives here, who actually helped save part of the Mobile Home Park. Hes a former firefighter, and noticed the back side of the park he got me three more guys, they went down on the other end, they worked their butts off, they saved that whole side, all the homes on that side. Some of these people havent come back yet because they think their homes are burned down. We saw workers out early this morning at the famous Robert Mondavi winery. In oakville. They were picking grapes as fast as they could and hauling them off. So far the winery has not been touched by the flames. However, several others have been damaged or destroyed. grant there is a new evacuation aadvisory in place. steve in the city of napa. People living west of highway 29 are being told to be ready to go at a moments notice. This is for People Living between the oakville grade and rutherford road. This is anot a mandatory evacuation but authorities do want you to have your bags packed and be ready to leave. steve you have no doubt seeing them heading north. Dozens of strike teams, hundreds of firefighters joining the ranks of those already on the fire lines in sonoma, napa and beyond. grant kron fours rob fladeboe is live at base camp in napa where he has been talking with some of the crews. And tonight, evacuated residents are anxiously waiting to see if their homes are ok. grant Danny Freeman joins us now live in sonoma with a close up look at one area where the wildfires have been raging this week. Danny . danny i want to show you something that illustrates just how personal and devastating these fires have been here in sonoma. This is the local paper here, the sonoma index tribune, dropped off on doorsteps with the head line, the week sonoma burned. today we got a look at some of those badly burned areas. Fewer than 10 miles away from downtown sonoma, a charred blackened landscape. Many vineyards and buildings in tact, but a once bucolic scenery, now changed. Here we met up with gil parsons, who has lived in these hills for over three decades. gil parsons sonoma resident parsons we were evacuated several days ago and this is the first ive been back. Remnants of the fire all around. Parsons everythings scorched immediately beyond us and now scorched from the other side as well. But miraculously, the fire stopped at his property. Danny fire was right here, this is your property parsons thats amazing. Its beyond comprehension. Perhaps there is some magic force we dont know about. All but one of his animals survived, cared for by Good Samaritan neighbors. Parsons its incredible the spirit the people are showing, especially the animal people, everybody has joined together. Danny su when gil came back to his property here he saw there was one patch of land still smoking. Omar here is wetting it down with water to make sure it doesnt reignite. But he wished luck to his fellow residents of Sonoma County, urging they keep moving forward. danny here in downtown sonoma we are seeing just that, folks trying to move forward, more restaurants opening, and more importantly, people grabbing a much needed bite to eat inside. Live from sonoma, Danny Freeman, back to you. steve today Sonoma County Sheriff Deputies arrested a man who has been looting from various places in the area. Sheriff deputies arrested morgan plumere. Sheriff deputies say plumere was stealing from a car in an evacuated area. They also say plumere stole from a Vineyard Management center as well as a fire department. He has been arrested for looting, possession of stolen property and possession of drugs. grant about 90 evacuees are staying at a shelter in american canyon. Where Good Samaritans have been stopping by and dropping off supplies. American Canyon High School is making sure undocumented immigrants feel safe at their shelter. Take a look at this sign outside their building. It is written in spanish and is telling people that they will not ask about your immigration status. The city of calistoga told people to go to this shelter after the entire city was placed under mandatory Evacuation Order on wednesday afternoon. This as the death toll has now ri steve we are learning more about the People Killed in the northbay firestorms. grant kron4s Maureen Kelly reports that a couple who had recently celebrated their 50 year wedding anniversary died in their santa rosa home. Its really hard because i just saw him at church and its just hard to imagine that we wont see him again. Members of the Resurrection Catholic Church in santa rosa say leroy and donna halbur were pillars of their communtiy. Both were 80 years old, married fifty years and the parents of two sons and had two grandchildren. Leroy helped found the Sonoma County branch of the Catholic Charity st. Vinicent de paul. He would give you the shirt off his back. A midwesterner with a dry sense of humor, leroy also volunteered as an usher at the church and would always help out during their big festival. He would be out there with the best of them putting up tables and structures, if you needed him he was there and he did it with a smile on his face. Those who knew donna halbur say her health had been failing in recent years. Shes described as being very creative, welcoming and supportive. I remember donna as being very encouraging of pursuing your dreams especially women and especially in the churchthe two were killed here at their angela drive home in the larkfield area of santa rosa before they could escape the fire. maureen the halbers will be buried back in their native iowa, a Memorial Service will be held here at the Resurrection Church in santa rosa in november. A couple who recently celebrated their 75th anniversary. A woman born with a spinal defect who worked to help others despite her own troubles. And one family in santa rosa is thankful tonight, that they were able to make it out alive. grant that would not have been possible if it wasnt for the work of two Brave Police Officers and now that family is searching for those officers to thank them. Kron fours Terisa Estacio joins us live now from santa rosa with more on their story. Terisa . estacio live it was truly an honor to talk with this family today i am here in santa rosa just off of fountaingrove pkwy near rincon ridge. The zechowys lost everything in the tubbs fire but that is not why the reached out to us they are on a mission. They want to find the officers who came to their rescue risking their own lives to save their entire family. estacio there is little left of the zechowys home. Only the stone pillars next to the mail box still stand. Heres what their home. Used to look like. But the santa rosa family isnt really focusing on what is gone they are grateful about what they do have each other. Stephen zechowy. Everything important to me is in this room. And they add it is all because of the incredible selfless actions two Police Officers. Heres what happened it was early monday morning the family says the wind knocked out the power. They did not think much of it stephen. I thought maybe we would lose some food however, as they slept. Fire erupted in their neighborhood and quickly spread thats when two Police Officers rushed into their burning home zechowy they said go, you have a minute to go your house is on fire mia. I heard my dad say get the kids. Jill zechowy says they grabed their dog, shoved everyone into a car including the jills inlaws sleeping in the front of the house, and drove as fast as they could they have nothing left. They went to target to pick up some essentials they are hanging out at stephens office for now, and staying at a friends home. When i spoke to them it was a tearful exchange. As they told me the reason, they are speaking up is this they want to reach out to the officers they dont know who saved them jill. It is hard to put into words but they risked their lives for us and their families support what they do, so thank you stephen. Who spent time at the journeys End Mobile Home Park, destroyed in a fire. grant thats where search and rescue volunteers spent the day with cadaver dogs looking for human remains. philippe for eileen rosetti. The journeys end was home for a year and a half. Now, she says its impossible to point out where her mobile home once stood. Eileen rosetti evacuee i cant tell where my rubble ends and someone elses begins. Through the afternoon at least 50 search and rescue volunteers, some from as far south as monterey county. Walked the grounds in santa rosa, searching for human remains, with the help of five trained cadaver dogs. Checking on five specific addresses, then branching out through the rest of the park. Eileen fears some of her neighbors who went missing, never made it out of the fire alive. Eileen rosetti evacuee i feel really sad. I, i tried to get one of my neighbors out, um, but he wouldnt go. I think he probably eventually went, but its just sad. I mean, theres a lot of nice people in this park. And, i dont know if ill ever see any of them because half of them, we were friendly, but i dont know their last names or where they went. Its just sad all the way around. Sergeant Dave Thompson with the Sonoma County Sheriffs Office says the bone fragments of at least one person were found here. Dave thompson sergeant this is very labor intensive. As you can imagine, its a home reduced to about three or four inches. Sergeant Thompson Says cadaver dogs may also visit the coffey park neighborhood. Some people who live in this area have been reported missing. You cant tell, but im standing on a sideyard, looking through what used to be a garage. Essentially all the homes one Walnut Creek Court have been wipped out. Dozens of homes destroyed. Dave thompson sergeant this is, you know, one of the tougher duties to have to do. Eileen thompson evacuee i dont know what were going to do. My husband and i are just completely devastated. We got our three dogs out though. But, uh, its just everythings unsure. Up next, we hear from a santa rosa woman who was able to escape. As the flames from the tubbs fire began to close in on her. grant tonight we are hearing from a woman. On how her and her dog escaped the fastmoving wildfire in santa rosa. Nicole comstock brings us her story. 3688 mocha lane in santa rosa. The bare bones of a home burned by wildfire. You donut even see a resemblance of what it used to be. Just one of many addresses in this coffey park neighborhoodwhere a deadly, winddriven, firestorm chased people out of bed in the middle of the night monday. Everything was gray, everything was destroyed. And it went for miles. One of those stories is about a girl and her dog. Natasha wallace wildfire survivor i would never part ways with my dog. Ever. And their unconventional method of getting out alive. thatus my ride or die. Oh my god, literally. Santa Rosa Junior College Soccer Player Natasha Wallace was studying across town until nearly 2 in the morning. On her way home, she saw the fire from the freeway. Meaning, she had the perspective to know everyone needed to evacuate immediately. So it just like, ran us out of the area. So she shoved bentley. Her 4 year old pit bull into her honda. And drove down the road. Within minutes, she was stuck between other cars. This one right beside her, overturned. It was coming faster than i could leave in traffic, so i went back and got my bike. She also grabbed a duffle bag. Which she used as a makeshift sidecar for her 70 pound best friend. So i grabbed my dog and i told him, hey man this is serious, you need to just sit in the bag. And he, he hopped right in. I held the duffle bag like this, put it over and had it on my arms, pedaling like that. She says after she made it down the road. A few miles ahead of the fire, a man in a truck pulled over. And took her and bentley the rest of the way out. I just want to say thank you to him. Paul johnson. Thursday night, wallace was reflecting on how lucky she was. Not only to have survived the fire. But to have people around to help. 3688 mocha lane was her home. Everything she owned is gone. A short time ago we learned the number of homes and buildings destroyed in the fires spiked siginificantly. Fire Officials Say 57hundred structures have been lost. pam we also learned of two more deaths in the bay area. The napa county sheriff found the bodies of 89 yearold doctor George Chaney and 79yearold edward stone. They were inside a home on atlas peak road. This brings the number of dead in napa county to four. As weve said. The latest numbers indicate a total of 35 people have been killed in the fire zone. We are getting an update right now on the fires. Lets go to the Sonoma County fairgrounds in santa rosa. pam one more note. We just learned governor brown, along with u. S. Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris will visit Sonoma County tomorrow. They have been waiting for the conditions to improve before visiting the area. This comes as fema is set to open up its operations in santa rosa tomorrow as well. A state of emergency was declared earlier this week. And the white house signed off on sending in federal aid. steve fire crews are making progress on some of the massive wildfires burning in the north bay. Here are a look at the latest numbers. The atlas fire in napa and solano counties has burned more 48thousand acres and is 27percent contained. The nuns fire in Sonoma County has burned over 44thousand acres and is five percent contained. The tubbs fire in napa county has burned nearly 35thousand acres and is 25percent contained. And in Sonoma County. The pocket fire has burned nearly 10thousand acres and is fivepercent contained. pam we have a new Evacuation Order to tell you about tonight. But were also learning about a glimmer of hope some surviving houses. Back area sahara, the street farthest back along the fence, closest to kaiser, is virtually untouched from one end to the other. The row across the street from those has many homes Still Standing, though not all of them. I learned all about this from priest morgan, a resident here and former firefighter. He woke up from a dead sleep sunday night to see flames a fire trucks all around journeys end. He started to evacuate but thought, im a former firefighter, i need to do something. He asked some of the firefighters for a hose that he could run, and even though they were evacuating kaiser permanente, they went against protocol to help him save several homes. sot priest morgan ÷ helped save part of Mobile Home Park they cut a hole in the fence, they gave me the hose and i started to work. And the captain walks up and says, wheres that hose going . and they said, some guy came and got it. he came and found me and said, what are you doing . i said, im trying to save my street. he looked both directions, and i dont think he realized there were still that many houses still there. He was like, woah . vo morgan is worried that a lot of people dont realize their homes are Still Standing. He says he counted 43 of them. Meanwhile, Sonoma County sheriff search and rescue crews were digging through the ashes with cadaver dogs, and found at least two victims bodies today. Its very possible there could be more here. Kron fours Terisa Estacio caught up with the family in santa rosa. 6 intro in santa rosa a family is on a mission although they lost everything in the tubbs fire, that raged through their neighborhood, they are trying to find the officers that saved their lives kron fours Terisa Estacio is in santa rosa with this heart felt story tonight estacio this behind me is all that is left of the zechowys home the family of four says there are many memories in this house and many items that they are missing jill zechowy shared with me her mother died when she was young and she had some very sentimental items inside the home but tonight what the family says they are really really focusing on is how they are alive take vo it was early monday morning when fire errupted in this neighborhood off of fountaingrove parkway the zechowy family was asleep. The powere had gone out around 11 but the family said that has hapapned before and they didnt think much of it. But then around 3am two Police Officers barged into their bedroom they yelled they had a minute to get out of their burning home the family raced out with their dog, and some extended family members staying wth them. The family now has nothing left but now, they are focused on family the officers that came to their rescue. This is a picture of what their house used to look like very sad times. Besides their home, they lost two cars in there one was just bought for mia. Mia also shared with me this. Her homecoming dress was in the house she was so sweet thought and said that right now she just wants to get together with her friends and that will be enough. We will introduce to a man who has stepped up with his motorcycle to help neighbors and firefighters as they try to get a handle on the massive fire in napa county. steve and quite a sight this morning in napa valley. The famous winemaker that is racing to get its grapes harvested because of the fire. We continue to hear how people were going to one anothers aid as the fires erupted late last sunday. Now a look at how one man literally rode to the rescue on a motorcycle. steve double box kron fours rob fladeboe has the story now live from napa. Rob . Sot kevin holmanlike so many napa valley residents, kevin holman has a tale to tell about the wild fires. Sot kevin holmanin something akin to paul reveres famous ride, much of it captured on his cell phone, holman rode his motorcycle into the flames on monday, scouting the fires path, sounding the alarm. Sot kevin holmanthis is dramatic video of holmans ride through Wild Horse Ranch roadand green valley road in the skyline area of east napa where he stoppedto help people battle the flames. Sot kevin holmanat one point holmans phone lit up with a warning that he was putting himself and his phone, at risk. He kept going anyway and kept shootingand riding and helping fight fire even before the real firefighters got there.
