So, quite an expert in this subject. Weve seen number of acl injuries over the years, sure. So youve been practicing for many years watch did you see yet yesterday. We will look, whether carson wentz was on the field, see him wobble off a little bit. But what did you notice when you saw that initial video . You can see there is a little wobble to the outer side of his knee, so the knee normally is restrained, with ligaments, and that look like the knee was not restrained. And you can cant really control that. So with your muscles. So, if in fact he did tearing his acl, what is the recovery time, like, thats what a lot of people are now wondering if. It is important that we are speculating, right, so if the acl is torn it does take periods of time to let the injury heal then there is cents periods of time for rehabilitation before surgery. You have surgery, and generally it is between six to nine months of recovery time. Now, you have treated worlds class athletes all over , and every type of sport. Now, hell have the mri today. But word spread quickly that it could be acl. So whats the initial exam . Like how do you, you know, if youre doctor and someone comes in, is it a quick check . Well it, can be a quick check, but basically there is an examination that was described by the way by a doctor from temple named doctor lockman, called the lockman test. And so essentially what we do is we hold the knee and move it and push it in a direction of where a acl would restrain that motion. And you have knee here . We have a knee. So we can see. That will i dont know it is possible cents to verbalize that, but the acl would control this motion. Without a acl, the knee moves. Okay. We can try. My sexy knee here. Here we go. Well, sometimes, in this case, if youre nervous like you are right now, you cant relax the knee. Relax, jim. So do you have relax, by the way we wont see positive test hopefully because your ac l is intact. But this is the test. Put that on, hand on the leg, then move it back and forth, and you can feel me moving it. If youre nervous or hamstrings tight or charged up because of the game it can be difficult at that moment to assess whether the acl is actually tournament and there in lies the problem. Doctor, let me ask you, because a lot of people have been little concerned, if, in fact, did he tear his acl. Why is he walking on that leg even with the brace . Will that make it worse . No. Certainly you can walk with a acl tear. Players play season with acl tears in the past, they have. But, no, wouldnt make it worse unless you tripped or fell or had further twisting. Thats the reason why you shouldnt play with a acl tear for the most part. You can, and players do, but by and large there is cents an increased risk of injury. Was it, i dont want to say smart, but was it prudent that he went back in after even for those four plays . I dont think he ever left. So he was on the field, and he continued to play, and then the plays went on. So, i dont think that ive never seen a player by the way in many years of practice who has if he has an injury like that, to continue to play and, in fact, one of the risks is that you can you cant escape, you cant run away.
