laughing . And that would be the late show having little fun with all of the weather terms that have floated around out there this week. Katie, you normally try to keep it real for us, but do you of them soundretty dramatic. Yes, polar vortex, ya. Bomb cyclone. These are actual terms we use in the vernacular meteorologist, i swear, theyre real things. But i think, yes, they do have a flare to them. And they can sounds a little bizarre, especially when talking about a bomb cyclone thats affecting literally millions of people. In a huge way. We all learn something new every day, that was a term for a lot of people, new term, so im glad we could educate folks. It is a legitimate thing that we see thankfully now that the bomb cyclone is gone and the clean up can begin. The aftermath, the cold, really harsh cold, too, thats going to continue for our area , but here is a look at the wide zoom, showing you the exit now noreaster bearing down on canada, now we have to focus on temperature, how it feels more specifically, more like below zero, i mean, mount pocono will be the one that bottoms out the most on this set of observations, throughout the next 48 hours. But it feels subzero everywhere right now, and it may feel no better than zero for the rest of the day, answer through tomorrow. Technically, we will hit the teens in the city, and only hit seven in the mountains today. But, as weve mentioned, this is dangerous cold, from now, through saturday, we are going to be feeling sub zero. That essentially puts on time frame of about 60 hours worth, meisha, where it is not even going to feel like it is in positive territory. So freezing cold, katie, watching that commercial, weve all seen from the spca about those dogs outside, make sure to bring those little pooches inside. Taking a look outside, it will be another slow commute this morning. Heads up on. That we do have accident out there 95 north at the airport, the right lane still blocked. You can see, all of the flashing light out, there as well. So, one of those things that one of the major point we were talking about yesterday, is while youre traveling past an accident, sometimes your hesitancy to put on your brakes quickly, because so much yesterday, we were having some problems, again today, dealing with some black ice out there. So because of that, just heads up if you travel on past some of these incidents that we will see this morning, just take it very, very easy, especially because we might actually have people outside their vehicles. More on this coming up in a little bit. Rahel, back over to you. All right, meisha, thank you. Chances are the closer you live to the jersey shore, the more snow you have on the ground. Youre looking live at cape may, along deck kate or street folks there digging out from 10 inches of snow, cape may courthouse 13 miles north reports 17 inches of snow. If you do have to get to work today, be ready. Yes, your commute may be dangerous, this is live look from the cbs3 mobile weather watcher this morning, giving us a firsthand look at some of the area streets, snow and ice covering roadways throughout our region. Lets go now to trang do, she is live at deck at or street and frankford avenue in holmesburg. How are things looking there . Well, pretty good, jan, depending where you look, remember, i because over on academy road chalfont drive, five to ten minute drive. I took some major roads, academy to frankford avenue, which you see here it, looks pretty fantastic. Now the problem is, when you go on these side streets here, lets take a look, decator street, cape may, decator street in holmesburg. See this little car having trouble traversing through these layers of snow that remain on the ground, on these side street. So what ill say is that if you are able to get out of your neighborhood, out of these small secondary roads, to a main street, you should be just fine, get to go work today. But again, as weve been mentioning, you know, there is some of that shininess on the roads, definitely can be ice, so even though this road looks pretty good, definately take it easy. But for now live in holmesburg , cbs3, eyewitness news, back to you. Doesnt take much to make the roads tricky out, there slippery. Thank, thank you. The storm also impacting air travel. Cbs all access original series Star Trek Discovery returns this sunday night, the chapter two debut uss discovery find itself in unfamiliar territory i iago a chance to speak with the star of the show about the series and sundays new episode. It is going to be quite a wild ride to see us figure out where we are, what to do, how tove, and jonathan, been a member of the star trek family for many years, because he was riker on next gen directed episode ten our mid season premiere did phenominal job, we absolutely love him, so were excited for everyone to see the premiere and to dig into the second half. Because it goes to very gritty places. Star trek is such a popular franchise, but this series actually has new characters, new adventures, so whats it like starring in this original series . One of the things i lover the most about our star trek is that we are trying to do everything at once, and we are trying to kehler to those people who have been a part of the franchise for many decades , but also, those people who have never seen anything in the star trek universe, and we love that we can pay homage, and respect, to what has come before. Because thats very much our Central Nervous system, our spine if you, will it is our foundation, but also speaking to create our own identity. I give so many props and respect to our show runners and the rest of our writing staff for that. But i think were trying to, you know, connect to the past, still have that connective tissue, but be our own thing at the same time. Now, catch the next chapter of Star Trek Discovery this sunday. And all new episodes can be seen weekly after 8 30 p. M. On sundays exclusively for cbs all axis subscribers. All right, last minute preps are now underway for sundays golden globe awards. Former ers childish gambino, little big town. Grammys will be broadcast live from new york sit on january 28th, and you can see it, right here, on cbs3. Big night. Love the performances. Katie, boy, weaver to buckle up for this weekend. You said it, so, so cold. We say buckle up, talking about strictly the cold, no storms in site at least not until next week, but for now, all about that harshness that will hit you walking out the door. Still need to be dressed appropriately, and be smart, if you have to get out there, remover the snow, which we all do, you know, you want to do this in shift. Because it is just too cold to be out in this kind of harsh cold, very long, especially where you had over a foot of snow. You have quite the job ahead of you here, so let me get you outside first, talking statistics, looking ahead to the possibility of record cold certainly, going to come close the forecasted low, this would be Early Morning low, saturday , sunday, into the medicining he will digits here , the records to beat on those days is in fact 4 degrees. Our average low, though, is well, quote unquote, balmy, 26 , thats where you normally bottom out. So we are talking 20 degrees solid colder by comparison to what would you normally experience. Then you have to factor in the wind. This is just your temperature. Not factoring in a windchill. So it is so harsh outside, we start it off though with a check on the eyewitness weather watchers who survived the storm, they did have, we will check very quickly snowfall totals that came in, there go, come on, delayed reaction, there it is, so fran ended 12 and a half inches, clearly higher totals the further east you went. Lawrenceville, new jersey, peter ended up with half foot. Ed had 7 inches at his house, and delran, alan pick up just shy of four, but in cherry hill, jenny ended up with 7 inches totalment back to the maps we go, where it is incredibly cold. At best you have got low teens , reported right now. We did have an observation from keith. Hes up and a trooper to check his weather station, this dark and early frigid hour. 6 degrees is what hes got on the actual thermometer. But it feels like it is 11 below and mount pocono actually even more harsh than that. We zoom it in one more time. We check at eds house at 9 degrees, hes got 10mile per hour currently east wind at his house. Predominant flow is opposite. That will but regardless, doesnt matter where that winds is coming from, it is causing a chill when youre at this kind of level on the thermometer. More like five below, not pleasant at all. Jump past the stat map there, look at the actual map on storm scan. Good news, not much to track at this point. So we are going to sit quietly with some sunshine, folk just on the cold here. Heres whats left of the noreaster. Making it departure, off to the north and east. And it is still bringing in some snow, even across eastern maine, but the rest of the maps, for the most part, nice and quiet. But just today alone, weve got these windchills that are as low as 25 below zero, up to the north, and then even here in the city, along i95, those urbanized areas, it could feel as low as ten below zero, thats for for the vast majority every day, not even where you bottom out. Through the span of the entire day that harsh. So were certainly not alone in this, but definitely, it is the casino every cold that youve got this think could be dangerous if youre out in it for too long. Be smart about it, currently 9 d elementary school. Doesnt look like much snow left. I think a lot of it blue away from the pavement here. Hard to tell when it is this dark. But things looking pretty clear out that way. The further inland you went, obviously the less snow you saw. We do still have pretty potent wind gusts into the 20s, into the 30s, and thats whats going to mean youve got to dot math in your head. Looking at your car thermometer traveling around, knock 20 degrees off. If not more than that, at any given time, and thats the best it will feel. But a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel, meisha, probably wintery mix late in the day monday. But at least we crack freezing tuesday looks good. Forty and sunny. Braining out your flip flops, right . Yes. And the sun what makes that so exciting too, katie, not only talking 40 degrees finally, welcome back 40, but also that sun will be a very welcome break. Thanks so much, katie. So yes, so still freezing cold today. We have a lot of ice on the roadway still. Even those treated surfaces can still be slick specially if any snow comes on there, the it melts, refreezes, take a look at fishtown, a lot of roads out there, girard, see the snow, sheen on the roadway surfaces, and overall just looks kind of crumby slushy out there. By the way, that slush from the tire . That will freeze over. So this is all going to be very, very slick this morning, the good news looks like everyone is still sleeping in that area. But not so much around the ben franklin bridge. And take a look at this. We already have an accident. Not only do we have an accident at the base of the ben franklin bridge, westbound , as you come into pa , but take a look at these road surfaces there is looks like all complete ice. It actually looks like slush that has refroze end over. So as you come off the base of the bridge, we might start to see some problems. Not only coming off some of the base of the bridges, or trying to get up on the bridge , but the onramps, off ramps, brick decks, smaller roads and the road surfaces, the sidewalks specially if you have to walk anywhere will be very slick. Just heads up on this, take it very, very slow, this accident , base of the bridge, ill let you know obviously as soon as that clears out the of the way. Also talking about mass trans whitt we come back in about ten minutes. Back to you. Meisha, thank you f1 of your new Year Resolutions is to get back in shape, cbs3 can help you out. Pat gallen live at lifetime fitness, you may have heard of but not know how to play. Thank you, pat. Good morning, guys. Yes. So obviously it snowed yesterday. It is like 3 degrees outside. It is cold. We want to warm up. But we also want to get in shape for the new year. Thats why were here this morning at lifetime fit fest. We are learning squash. Thats whats going on behind us. This is my man, comic con, one of the coaches here. Good morning, my friend. Good morning. Tell us little bit about squash. Why you think it is gaining popularity . So, Fastest Growing support in the northeast area, a lifetime sport. It is a full body work out. There is no doubt about that. And and you guys here, though, one of the coaches here, and philly may not were casino every known as a football town , basketball town. We might also be thought of as is a squash town, youre saying there are a lot of really high ranking youth players in this area . Thats right. So it is lifetime. We have one of the top players in u13, u11, u15. Sure. Lifetime, 31 School Squash programs. Is that right. Thats right. Thats why it is getting popular, and fame us. Why do you think it is such good good full body work out . You and i were in there two minute, im already sweating profusely. So as i said, squash is a great body work out. If you play tennis, you burn the calories. Sure. So squash is like one hour. Calorie burn nerve that regard . Can we jump in and play . Can you show ming . Sure. Why dont we do it . Ill follow you. So do you minds if we jump in . All right, here we go. All right, so, everybody has asked me what is the difference between raquetball and squash. So i would say squash is very similar to tennis, so you play with two players on a court. You have to hit the ball on the front wall. Okay. And above that line . Above that line. You start with above the line. Sure. And then you can hit anywhere, where ever you like. Lets do it. The front wall. Should we try . Please. Ill give it a shot. Thank you, guys. Since im already warmed up, and sweating. Thank you, gentlemen. So cross the midline. Across the midline, okay. Thats right. I think im ready. Nice. Is that a good swing . Yes great, great. All right. See, you have to take the ball before the second bounce. Before the second bounce, okay. Much like tennis. All right, good volley. Im already sweating profusely here. You can hit the ball, take the ball early if you would like. Pat gallen giving it his all out there. And getting into it. Not too bad. Im impressed by your skills, pat. Oh, look at that. Great job. Amazing. I didnt know that philadelphia has yes and the best part of this, indoors, right . Specially these daysment we will be hine the wheel of our mobile weather watch ers, thank you very much, looks like south philly. You can see the roads snow covered with some snow. Could be treacherous out there , be careful. There was some squeals every excitement during police chase yesterday, in columbus, ohio. Yes, and those squeals were coming from both the suspect and the police. Take a look at this, neighbors called police after a pig got loose in an apartment complex, parking lot, after rather hand fisted initial attempt at grab i the slippery swine, police were successful in coralling the little fellow. The pig now in the care of animal control, facing charges , no charges or no charges, i think Meisha Johnson son would take him home. Yes, she would.
