Crews have been battling this blaze, since about 3 00 a. M. It is now under control. But there is still a long way to go. They say theyll be out here for days, and i spoke with the fire commissioner, who says, this is a difficult fire to fight because of the type of structure it is. It is considered a historic building. Now, so far, 200 crews have been on scene, thats including Emergency Management , the red cross, i spoke with evacuees, and now, 100 people at least are going to evacuate between the Apartment Building and the adjacent hotel. I spoke with one guy who was sleeping at the time. Heres what he had to say. Oh, just our fire alarm went off. You know, i ran into the front , my bedroom in the back, so when i ran in the front i could smell smoke, smoke in our unit all all none, but i look downey could see smoke billowing from the ground floor restaurant nextdoor to us, so of course immediately evacuated. Well, house fire in fox chase that killed one person and injured two firefighters is now under investigation this morning. Flames shot from the roof thereof a home at verree road and fans street, late last night. Crews fought that fire for over an hour, in the driving snow before bringing it under control. Were told that the firefighters injured are being treated for minor injuries. Four philadelphia firefighters killed battling the great fire of 1899 were remembered in center city. The annual Firefighters Memorial mass was held at saint john the Evangelist Church near 13th and market yesterday. Firefighters duffy, chance, steinly and shea were all remembered. They gave their lives battling flames at bern saint johns and several other buildings, flowers were placed on their memorial plaques. Outrage and anger continues today over the Valentine Day shooting spree at a high school in florida.
