This seminar will discuss leprosy and the history of leprosy research, including its relationship to the WHO TDR programme - which led to a major research programme in Karonga District in northern Malawi, associated with LSHTM, starting in 1979. Two total population surveys provided detailed descriptive and risk factor data, and a large RCT examined repeat BCG and a new vaccine containing killed M leprae.
