The New Mexico Workforce Solutions Department has recently hired over 100 new staff members to allow the department to return calls from the public to the call center on the same day they are received. A number of the new employees were hired from the Health Department from individuals no longer needed for COVID-19 contact tracing.
The New Mexico Human Services Department is coordinating a new program with Help NM Inc. to offer all Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program customers an Employment and Training opportunity. The program is available to all SNAP customers between the ages of 16 and 59, who are not receiving cash benefits through HSD, applying for or receiving unemployment compensation benefits, and who are able and willing to work upon completion of the program. According to a news release from the NM HSD, the new program “provides an assessment, development of an employment plan, educational and training components and support services to help participants prepare for, enter and advance in the workplace.”
