An East Orange man was charged in a hit-and-run that killed a 43-year-old woman this week in the city, authorities said Friday.
Peter Andrews, 28, faces charges of knowingly leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle causing death and endangering an injured victim, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and East Orange Police Chief Phyllis Bindi.
Andrews was identified as the driver operating a white Acura that struck Yahaira Marrero-Marcano as she walked in the 200 block of Central Avenue in East Orange around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, the chief and prosecutor said in a statement. The vehicle fled the scene, they said.
