Mattawa Mayor Dean Backer will forfeit a quarter of his annual pay for three code of conduct violations last year.

The decision at council Monday night follows an Integrity Commissioner investigation over a March 17, 2020 incident. Backer was found to have interfered with managers dealing with a staff member related to him, including alleged threats that jobs were on the line.
Council voted 4-2 on the motion outlining the price Backer will pay for the breaches, described as “egregious” in an executive summary of the investigation presented two weeks ago.
