Israelhamas war. New this, our President Biden, on his way to israel. You plans to meet with israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. A critically important meeting, at a critically important time. Also new today, The State Department had issued a level for Travel Advisory for lebanon. Saying, americans should avoid traveling to the country, setting the unpredictable Security Situation created by rocket, missile, and Security Exchanges between israel, and hezbollah. We have new numbers for you at this hour. We have confirmation from u. S. Officials, 31 americans have been killed in the attack. 13, unaccounted for. Present biden, expecting to meet with some of those families. It will be some of the families who have lost loved ones in israel, send some of the families who have, who still dont know the fate of their loved ones. In fact, some of the Family Members we expect will be Family Members of hostages that we know hamas has taken. Moving between biden, and palestinian leader, mahmoud abbas, following the blasted of gaza city hospital. That has killed, by some estimates, at least 500 palestinians. That number, according to the Health Ministry there. Hamas claims the blast was caused by an israeli airstrike, while the Israeli Military claims it has evidence that the blast was caused by a misfired rocket from another militant group. We have a report on that, in just a moment. President biden, expressing outrage, saying his National Security team is gathering information about, exactly, what happened. But, anger quickly turned to protest. Chaos in lebanon as Police Used Tear Gas to disperse crowds near the u. S. Embassy in beirut. Thousands, pouring onto the streets of baghdad to protest the Hospital Bombing. And, to show solidarity with the palestinians. A flag burning, as protests continued in amman, jordan. The Hospital Bombing, dominating the front pages of newspapers All Around The World this morning. Lets get right to nbc correspondent, raf sanchez, whos in israel for us today. What is going on in israel as the country and, of course, the prime waits the arrival . We expect Prime Minister netanyahu will meet President Biden on the tarmac at the ben gurion airport. This will exchange some words there, and theyre going to head to tel aviv. We have seen this unusual choreography for Secretary Of State, antony blinken,s previous trips. Americas top diplomat has, actually, sat in on the meetings of israels war cabinet. Very unusual. I cannot think of any other situation where such as Senior American Official has been sitting inside of the decisionmaking room of another government, even an allied government. Chris, all eyes, right now, are on the Alake Cause Spittle in gaza city. There is that explosion last night, appearing to have killed people at least 12 hours on from that last. There is still a heavy fog of war hanging over the situation. You can see, this is widespread, political ramifications. It is overturned bidens eight overturned jordan trip. President a boss, of the Palestinian Authority, supposed to meet President Biden in amman at the jordanian capital, but he called that meeting off after the strike on this hospital. They subsequently canceled the entire meeting. President bidens trip to the middle east, now, down to just this israel leg. In terms of what we know, and what we dont know, chris, about this Hospital Strike. The Palestinian Authority, palestinian Health Ministry says, up to 500 people were killed in this explosion. Many of those are in the familys, or the courtyard of this hospital, and people who believed, fatally, as it turns out, that if it was on the hospital grounds, they might be safe there. Now, israel is saying, this was a palestinian, Islamic Jihad rocket, which was fired from a cemetery, behind the hospital, which misfired, and landed in this courtyard. It is unclear, chs, how a single panel stingy and rocket could cause this level of damage. These rockets are deadly, they are dangerous, that they do not typically kill 500 people. But, the Israeli Military is, this morning, producing, what it says, is evidence to support its claim that this is a palestinian misfire. They have put out Drone Footage from the aftermath of the explosion at the hospital, and that they are pointing out. It was there to independently verify their claims, and saying that the Drone Footage shows that there is no crater outside of the hospital, which is what you would expect if this was an israeli airstrike, if this was an israeli heavy explosive. They are saying, this was a surface explosion, that there is not a lot of damage to buildings around, none of, which they, say is consistent with an israeli airstrike. Theyre also claiming to have, what they say, isnt intersected conversation between officials in palestinian Islamic Jihad, one of the smaller terrorist groups operating inside of gaza, where these officials appeared to have acknowledged, between themselves that this was a palestinian rocket that caused this explosion. Palestinians are, absolutely, adamant that this was an israeli airstrike. We should be clear, chris, you just do not normally see these death tolls associated with a palestinian rocket. We should also be clear, there is a track record with the Israeli Military of saying things in the early hours, after an incident, which turned out to be untrue in the long run. How reminder of the situation with shireen abu akleh, the journalist with algeria, killed in the occupied west bank. These really military said it was a palestinian gunmen who fired the fatal bullet, and that they, ultimately, acknowledged it was most likely an israeli soldier who killed her. I will say, the Israeli Military seem sure that they are pushing on every public channel on social media, and directly pressed to the israeli public. They seem sure, or are making a very strong case that they are sure, that this was a palestinian rocket. We are unable to get into gaza, the Israel Gaza Border is shield, the each of gaza border is shield, sealed our teams cannot get on the ground. Were hoping for every piece of information we can, and try to understand what happens here. The President Biden is going to be asked about this when hes on the ground here, and is one of the many, many uncomfortable questions he may be facing, flying into, what is, literally, a war zone here. It is just about this literal safety, we saw Secretary Of State blinken that would go to the bomb shelter. The it was a lot of concerns, and there is rocket fire, president at the import, what there was at the ministry, when he is in transit in between. Israel, of course, absolutely committed to the president s security here, and the fact that there is two American Carrier strike groups in the mediterranean right now to provide overhead support. Its not straightforward, chris. We have watched as all of the president s made that visit to kyiv, in wartime, under cover of darkness. I must tell you, this is a much faster moving situation, and the battle lines are much closer. Chris . Give us a sense, if you will, on the ground. Obviously, the news Hospital Bombing has been shaken the entire region to this core. Is there a sense . Is there an escalating concern about this possibility that this would come into a wider conflict . I think there is real pressure, chris, in governments all over the middle east right now. It seems to be doing something. The streets of arab capitals are enraged by the images coming from the hospital in gaza city. I say this very straightforwardly, chris. In a sense, it doesnt matter what the truth ends up being. People in these middle Eastern Countries will not believe any other version of events, and israel is responsible. That is already baked in. We are seeing these large protests in lebanon, in baghdad, and we are seeing people outside of the Israeli Embassy in turkey. We are seeing them, also, in jordan. One of the real concerns, chris, is the occupied west bank. It has been violence over the last couple of weeks, several dozen palestinians have been killed in clashes with the Israeli Military. It is killed in confrontations, in some cases, because of armed, israeli settlers. The west bank has not erupted in full scale chaos yet, and there is concern in gaza city that could be the spark in the west bank. It was the administrative capital of the occupied west bank. The anger of those protests, chris, is aimed at the israelis. It is also aimed at the Palestinian Authority, which many palestinians feel is a subcontractor of the israeli occupation. They feel it cooperates with israel. One of the things theyve been saying is they no security coordination. They want the Palestinian Authority to end, what is this, deep, underground relationship with israel to the palestinian forces to take dangerous people off the street right now. Chris . Thank you so much for that. Lets bring in joe reuben, serving as Assistant Secretary for state and legislative affairs in the obama administration. New lead Political Advocacy campaigns on National Security, and middle eastern policies. We also have retired lieutenant general, steph twitty, serving as Deputy Commander of the u. S. European command, and an msnbc military analyst. Thank you for being with us. Let me start with you, general. The Israeli Defense force said, clearly, and told reporters hours ago, they have intercepted Palestinian Communications approved Islamic Jihad is responsible for this Hospital Strike. You heard rat talk about the fact that they have Drone Footage, yes, it is grainy, but they say, shows that there is no crater outside of the hospital. Tell me your assessment, and how long it may take for and intelligence, and outside intelligence for what really happened here . I think we are in a sad situation here, given the fact that this bomb has killed so many people. Regardless of the outcome, and the investigation are a preliminary investigation, and an extensive investigation. These rallies are going to be blamed for this. We are starting to see the makings of a tinderbox happening. The u. S. , we have tried to work hard to keep this as a local fight, and as we show the footage, it starts to look like it is getting ready to go to something reasonable here. It was going to prevent it from happening, and it was good, to be quite honest with you. The president is going into israel, and you have to talk to the israelis on how we conduct measured, Military Operations to keep them to local, and to regional. They came together very quickly on monday, and this is just past 3 00 and washington, in new york. That, of course, was before they saw the images of the gaza Hospital Strike. How does this have and extraordinarily see the situation for the president . Chris, what this does is give the president to, frankly, speak truth. Just like they did after this horrendous attack over innocent civilians in israel so timber seventh. We saw it already in his statement, last night. A lot of outrage at the killings, the deaths of innocent civilians. It is going to be in a position to speak truth and public, and that is very important. As the general is pointing to, the Military Operations for israel is closing rapidly. There are several hundred israeli troops mobilizing along the border on gaza, and this trip is about demonstrating israel, and as well as deterrence towards other regional actors, potentially getting involved. One key component as well, talking what palestinians, and humanitarian assistance. A lot of these things are going to be on display, and i think its, the president can speak to that humanitarian side, while still showing support for israel, as it is fighting, many israelis think it is very existential conflict right now. On to play more of National Security council spokesman, john kirby, traveling on Air Force One Withhe president right now had to say about the agenda. Lets take a listen. When he talks to Prime Minister netanyah and the war cabinet, hes going to be doing a few things. One, as you will want to get a sense from the israelis about the situation on the ground, and critically, their objectives, their plans, their intentions, in the days, and weeks, ahead. He will be asking some tough questions, and asking them as a friend, a friend of israel. There will be asking some questions of them. Talk about the tough questions that the president needs to get answers, and one of the chances that they see of getting those answers . One of the hardest, most difficult things is what is your overall endgame . The the next day scenario after the fighting, and it is rooted in the American Experience in the last couple of decades, and getting into the military action, no justified it is, the it is not necessarily meeting one has a good day after scenario. So, really ensuring that the israelis have that plan if there is a Ground Offensive in the leadership inside of gaza. This is a real stand, occupy . For how long . How do they transition out . Who are they handed to the handing the keys to gaza . What is the diplomatic plan after that . Those are all crucial. The u. S. Has shown, through actions, that sending Battle Groups to the east mediterranean, to ensure that there is deterrence against hezbollah, and others. There is enough supply going into israel right now, it is supported militarily, and it is that political Military Strategy that is helpful to israel, and they say that anytime of battle plan, any day of the scenario. Again, they will be the day after, and these vehicles will be there, it is going l. Let me ask you more about the ground game. Multiple current, and former Administration Officials told nb one of the conditions of the president Visiting Israel is going to take place before israel in the engagemt. They gave palestinians 24 hours to evacuate gaz for days, later no ground siege, biden is just going to arrive later today. It was helping, or hurting israel strategically. How do they py , as you see it, but not just the overall game plan by israel, but particularly, it was there with netanyahu. Then i dont think it hurts at all, chris. It was a couple of things that are happening here that has caused, in my view, this delay in the ground game. The there was a humanitarian disaster that is occurring. You have to get a handle on this humanitarian disaster. If you do not, when you go in, you are going to have to deal with that problem. Not the u. N. , and others. When you go in, you own it. In the other piece now, and it is having an attack on the hospital, went over 500 people that, have been killed. You want to make sure that the Information Space on this simmers down, before you go in as well the, and once you go in the. It was israelis that were letting play out, and let them simmer down to the humanitarian crisis. When you go into how the right conditions are set, this also gives them extra time to do intel gathering on where the hostage is located, as this is going on as well. To get the signal intelligence, and other intelligence to find where the hostages are, in order to figure out where hamas is located. All of those things. So, the israelis do not wish to rush the fair here. Let these things play out, and then, at the right time, conduct to the ground engagement. General twitty, joe ruben, thank you both, youll be with us later on in the program. My next guest, talking to people in gaza, every single day. What she is hearing from people about that Hospital Bombing, next. Bombing, next more blasts and smoke, rising above buildings and gaza city this morning. It was awaiting for President Bidens, real complicating his visit is the violent, and heartbreaking scene at the hospital and gaza city. The palestinian Health Ministry says that the Rocket Strike killed 700 people. It was making denounced this morning. The fallout came fast, with clashes between protesters, and palestinian forces in the occupied west bank. All of it, to further threatening a region already saturated with violence. Joining us now from beirut, lebanon, and with the patient and post middle east correspondent. Thank you for joining us. Do we know anything about what is happening right now at the scene of the hospital . We have not been able to get in touch with the doctors, as of yet. Calms have been very, very scant. The last we checked, last i spoke to them, around four a. M. They were describing the lab salute the level, insane level, of casualties. It was most of them for children, and women we saw, on fortunately, from the photos. There is a lot of children, and were not sure what could happen with the efforts and to move the bodies from the hospital, that that was a big concern. It was a lot of time in the courtyard where it seems like the strike hit. What has been the reaction . What are you saying . What are you hearing of the region around this explosion . It was one of the biggest catalyst that we have seen, in terms of getting arab reaction. There is a lot of condemnations, and statements being made, it would be even countries that have normalized with israel, and it was having been shifted yesterday. We still know why they are coming from, and they are trading blame, and seen some grievances among the arab nations. At least that they would blame israel, even in the United Arab Emirates which have normalized relations with israel. But on a statement yesterday, it was an attack, which is blamed on israel. We saw, immediately, protests. Phil jordan, and in lebanon, there were people who marched from beirut to the u. S. Embassy. Outside of beirut, it went quite a long way, and they even got to a barricade that can be set up, and is setting a fire near the embassy. It was updating its Travel Advisory for lebanon, and we are not only seeing later condemnation, but a lot of fuel, and anger, from arabs, and muslims. So, definitely, it has gotten a lot of attention in the region. Of course, israel does deny responsibility. They are blaming the palestinian militant group, Islamic Jihad. Who they, are where they are, and why do we think israel blames them . Israel said, what they have as the palestinian Islamic Jihad is a militant group, and in gaza. It is an offshoot of the muslim brotherhood, and it has an armed wing called the blitz brigade. They have been active in this front also. They have launched rockets, they have said that they launched rockets towards israel, seeing as hamas has been in the last ten days. But israel says, they have a recording from, what it says, is hamas operatives saying, this was one of ours. They have said that they have video, showing that the islamic, palestinian Islamic Jihad launched a rocket, and that it seemed to have detonated in the air, fallen, and a big part of that fell in the courtyard. Hamas, and the palestinian Islamic Jihad have denied this. Almost every other news organization, and Human Rights Group has said, and a lot of others, we have experts who are, currently, working on this. Just to try to identify, or best identify, it was a level of destruction, matches, with what we have seen the rocket launched by the palestinian Islamic Jihad. As you mentioned, the horror of the scene, children being killed, very much focusing the worlds attention on any place. I want to read from, you sarah, a state Department Bulletin that came out overnight. It has included a Travel Advisory, raising the level of concern to four, asking all americans do not travel to the country. I am going to quote you. Due to the unpredictable Security Situation related to rocket, missile, and artillery changes between israel, hezbollah, and other armed militant factions. Talk about the concerns right where you are now . The theres been concerns, for a while, and there is a war between hezbollah, and that militant armed group, and strongest Political Party in lebanon. It is listed as a terrorist organization in the states. Hezbollah got into a massive appeal from lebanese citizens. Israel, at the time, this isnt an airport and says that any future escalation, any future war, they would ensure that they bombed the capital of lebanon, which is where i am now. It was used to be luxury, it was the place that people come to to relax, and more or less, social credence. They have been afraid of war, ever since 2006. Every summer, 11 ease say, we will see war, we will see war, there are stumbles, and skirmishes at the border. It bolsters that fear. Right now, i think the fear has become quite real. These kinds of statements, i think, cause a lot of panic for lebanese people, or for lebanon residents. The 2006 is something that they worry will happen again. It was not being down the blame, and not going down to you, and based on that, we are going to see an israeli reaction and, the targeting of lebanon. But as of right now, none of that is clear. It will depend on what hezbollah, and it was that, or non battle that they decide to engage in. Things may not stay as calm, and as they have been. The clashes have been to the south of lebanon so far. Sara, from the washington post, you have our admiration, and our thanks to you who are with our correspondents in the middle east for the great reporting that youve been doing. Much appreciated. We are keeping a close eye on tel aviv, where President Biden is expected to land, later today. He is scheduled to meet with israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. He will also be speaking, according to u. S. Officials, with families waiting for missing loved ones. But, another key meeting, in amman, with jordanian and the Gaza Situation was canceled by jordan. We are monitoring the president s trip, hes in Air Force One right now. It will bring you the latest, as soon as he arrives. We did get new information from u. S. Officials, who are traveling with the president. They say, there are currently 31 americans who have been killed in this conflict. 13, right, now are unaccounted for, and may be held hostage. It was learning about the israelis taking hostage by hamas, and all but devastatingly uncertain time for everyones families. Joining us now, avignon, from virginia, living north of tel aviv. Five of her Family Members are among those being held hostage by hamas. It is an extremely difficult unfair to the time to talk with us. First and foremost, how are you doing . We are going to push them home. Eating, sleeping, or stopping. That is the Modus Operandi right now, just keep pushing. Talk about the push . What you feel you can do, what they have been doing, your expectations, if any, from President Bidens visit to israel . We are working as a very large family, and my cousin carmelo, who turned 80 yesterday, is a citizen, and all five of my Family Members are french. We are working, as close as possible, with all governments to ensure that the hostages are released, before anything goes in. I think any human, watching whats happening in gaza right now feels empathy, and concern, and the loved ones for every country. They just want them home. We have met with the Secretary Of State blinken, spoken on zoom in the delegation, but we are speaking to The State Department, and the fbi. We are working with the red cross, we are doing Everything Possible on the bureaucratic level. It was trying to keep Family Members in the media, and there is a piece of this before any other part of the war develops . I dont think theres any doubt at all that any Feeling Human Being is horrified and whats happening. It doesnt feel incredible pain for what you must be doing going through. We are pictures of your five Family Members, and i do think it is situations like this. It helps for people to understand what is at stake here. Can i talk about those five Family Members, and tell us about them, and what they mean to your family . We gathered last night for a larger family, and it was the 80th birthday, and it was where they live for the majority of life it was really not existing. It was 12 grandchildren, and playing with them, singing, and dancing, it was always the one to crack a joke. He is an avid bike writer, both in israel, and europe, and he was 12 this month. He rides bikes he, plays legos. Sahara 16, she is a beautiful teenage girl, and they are singing, dancing, posting tiktoks, and norah, whose cousin is 12 years old, is on the optimism spectrum. She is sensitive to light, touch, and sound. You may saw that jacob rolling tweeted her photo this week, which i think, we believe, must bring her some joy, wherever she is right now. To know that her favorite authors thinking about her. They are beautiful kids, absolutely. They have touched so many millions of people. Can you say, right now, after your conversation with the president for the secretary with Senator Schumer that you do have hope, and that Everything Possible is being done to make sure that the Family Members who returned safely. I do have hope. I dont have any other action, besides hope. That was sharing these details, and pieces of what went on, and what has happened since. They said, you move me, not only emotionally, but to action. I believe we have a window, right now with these lands, and till biden leaves. They can call for the release of the hostages for the foreign nationals, for the women, for the children, and indeed for all of them. There is no question, war is going to happen. War is happening. We are seeing it. They cannot build this war on the back of children, send elderly. It is impossible. It is against all rules. These are war crimes. These tossed adjusts are being used as pawns, in an unimaginable game. They should be released, today. Abby, i know, to say that our thoughts and prayers that have Felt Perfunctory at worst, and inadequate at best. Please know that millions of people are thinking about you, praying, and hoping the best for your family. It was taking it very seriously, but thank you very much. God bless. Thank you for having me. There is no task of visiting a war zone, where missiles are flying. The decisionmaking that went into this, inside the white house, and of course, among his security details the, all of that, coming up next. At, coming up next breaking news this hour, President Biden getting closer to the landing in israel, and we have gotten information from Administration Officials on what is expected to be a very full day for the president. With Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, then, they will be talking with First Responders, and Family Members who have lost loved ones since the war began ten days ago. I want to go to aaron gilchrist, In Washington pc. What more do we know about the president plans once he lands in israel . With the president will be doing in, what is likely, relatively short trip. We dont expect hell be overnighting and the middle east during this trip to israel as rafts enters a portrait earlier, we expect that meet President Biden there, and understanding that the two will have very restrictive, bilateral meetings when the president gets there to talk about the plans that israel has, going forward. Theyll be an opportunity for the president , and his larger team, including Secretary Of State, antony blinken, to meet with the israeli war cabinet. They discussed plans from that perspective as well. As you noted, they talk to First Responders who, actively, have engaged on the ground there, dealing with the injured and, trying to help people during this time in israel. Hes also meeting with some families they understand who ha been killed, and including those 13 americans who are still missing, and have family and israel. It was the spokesman for the National Security council. They plan to ask some questions of the israelis. They want to know about their objectives, their plans for this war, going into the days, and weeks ahead. He will be asking about the need for humanitarian aid to start flowing into the gaza strip. He started food, water, medicine, and power, for that matter. Its a humanitarian situation that the president , is very, much dialed in on. Of course, they want to hear the National Security spokespewhate had to say about that particular issue. Address t humanitarian situation and gaza, making it clear, as he has before that we want to see humanitarian assistance flow in and, not just a one and done. We want to see it be a sustained. Food, water, obviously electrical power, mediall things that the people of gaza are going to continue to need as this conflict continues to go on. Youll make that case very, very clearly. Chris, theres also an issue of hostages. Obviously, the president will ask the israelis what they know, what additional assistance they may need from the u. S. , and trying to figure where the hostages may be. It was any help that they may need in terms of planning for the hostages to get out alive. Aaron gilchrist, thank you for getting up early for us, we appreciate it. I want to bring in rob damico, fbi hostage rescue team, and a founder of good to see you. Obviously, this is an understatement. President bidens visit comes at a particularly tumultuous, and dangerous time. Of course, now, which he didn know when it was planned, immediately following the Hospital Explosion that killed hundreds. Given the risk assessment, how risky is this trip . I think the biggest factor that makes us so risky is, it was announced. It was who theyre going to meet, and its out. Before the president has even gone over before, it was unannounced, and it was very small groups of people. It was a much bigger problem, and announced some several days beforehand. They are seeing some additional threats. There are lone shooters and over there, you have missiles, you have vehicle borne ieds. You have a gamut of threats they need to consider. They also dont on the territory. When president s are visiting the territory in iraq, and afghanistan, they were on Military Bases that we own. Here, everything is on the israelis. Not that they are not good, but the Secret Service likes to own what they do, and it is a lot tougher in the country that you dont have total control over. Lets talk about this country that you dont have control over, you have a situation, where not only the Hospital Strike were looking at now, but according to the united nations, theres at least ten hospitals that have been hit so far. Places that were supposed to be places of safety. There is a quote, in one of the Newspaper Articles that i read from some of the people on the ground there. You said, in the hospitals and, safe what is . Is any place safe in that region, really, right now . I dont think so. You have players and their, you have missiles that, if you look at some of the missiles that came from iran, that are now being used in ukraine, it puts a an area that you cannot control. There is no safe spot, and that, really, is on the Secret Services radar. They have all of their counter drone stuff, all of these other things, but these missiles that can come in and only time. Even if its not an accurate strike, then you have embarrassment of having to get the president out of a situation, maybe put him on a helicopter, or a vehicle, and get him out of an area. Again, that is an embarrassment. But, i also look at, does hamas want something to happen to the president at the time . Theyre getting a lot of support in the u. S. It was having to do anything that happen, so i want to look for a group within it, and any lone actors that, could possibly, take it on their own. Let me ask you about a compressed timeline. Nbc news learned the, this trip came together very quickly, and had been discussed on monday. Theyre not even at 4 00 in the morning, obviously, over wednesday. It was a contingency plan, and it was in the war zone. This compressed timeline really isnt a factor here . After action reports before this year. There is past president s in war zones, and everything is a little bit different. They go back to what they learned, and they go back to, worstcase scenario, what are we going to do . It is not going to look pity or get the president out of a situation. As they have more time for each location, they may refine it on the ground, and plans may be happening at the area. It was a secret Service Agents on the ground, or coordinating it at the last minute, they are relayed to the agents that are coming into the president , so that is up to the last second, everything is happening, and it is happening fast. I want to talk to you about the hostage crisis, which, of course, is giving your experience as a former member of the fbis hostage rescue team. Yesterday, hamas officials said that theyll be opening to letting some of the hostages go if israel stops bombing gaza. Eight it was illegitimate attempt to empty promise looking from the organization that is not to be trusted. I think it is both. It was in hamas who did it for the upper hand every to diminish. And for a lot further. It was unfortunately american hostages, and they really come in, and theyre having to go with it. That has never done before. It was Family Members that are talking about it beforehand. It was hearing the president itself, it was taking it seriously. Its what hamas take about these. Some of these are legitimate for leverage, and it was in their own group, and a different understanding of what the hostages are for. I really worry. Theyre taking things happen, and they may be used as a trapping. You can put out intelligence, but they know that the best forces will rescue them, and, again, is another embarrassment all around. With the president has to leave on a tremendously consequential trip, and with the israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahus of the time of increasing tensions in that region, where some of the factors here, just as we have been talking about with rob damico is that u. S. Citizens, americans, are being held hostage. The exact number is not known, or at, least has not been made public. The idea, rob, is that there is not necessarily not even necessarily one place being held there, but one group that theyre being held by. But, what do you think President Biden can, and needs, to learn out of these conversations, and from Israeli Intelligence . How do you think what is known about that hasse situation on the ground right now . I think it is so tough. It is good at holding hostages. Im sure theyre moving on, theres basque one of them, which makes it more difficult when youre looking for a specific hostage, in a location that we used to do overseas. Its a lot different when youre looking for one. You have dozens out there. You have movement plans, you have all kinds of things happening, and there is this election that is going to focus on an individual hostage. It was having to move, and i think this is one of the highest priorities of hamas right now, and in the international community. It was going to be allowing them to directly interact with other governments, but i dont think that they would have, if they had those hostages. Let me bring back charles reuben, if i can right now. Joel, as we are watching right now, the president s plane, Air Force One, has landed, and come to a stop. We will wait to see the president get off of that plane. Talk to us about what we know about the hostage negotiations. I know qatar, among other countries, as joined in the hostage negotiations. The stakes here, for the president , for the human price that is being paid, by americans, who are on the ground in israel, are extraordinarily high. Give us your thoughts on that as the president lands. The chris, you pointed to the right country. Qatar is a country that is a close american ally, and they also have deep ties into hamas, into the political leadership, which is living in doha. The it had qatar, with israeli approval, for a number of years now. It has been providing assistance to gaza, through hamas. So, they are leading into hamas, without a doubt, trying to get them the across that no good will come of this. This is a horrible situation, taking hostages, taking civilians, and bringing them into the gaza strip. Bringing them into a position above additional suffering. Qatar is the key to these negotiations. I think to this broader point, as the president places on american citizens abroad, and securing the release of americans in russia, and iran, north korea, it doesnt matter, it was very important. With qatar, and others, this means a lot in terms of the bilateral relationship with the united states. The in fact, many examples of them being mediator in these hostage situations. It was framed to these americans, it was a nod at an aid worker who, was released in africa, and alqaeda affiliated group in syria. They released a journalist, an american journalist, after negotiations were held. It was saying that hamas is good at holding hostages, and it is a completely different situation that is dealing with this terrorist group. Talk about the complexities of, that shull. Look at what we just saw. A young woman, a french israeli, a young woman being paraded in front of cameras, essentially. Being forced to mouth words. This is a human rights violation. These people are suffering, and they are under a deep strain. It was with the war planning, and they are now a lot of pushes on when israel will invade, on the ground. Why are they not going in . There are multiple strategic issues. It was not a lot of further risk, and its a dangerous situation. A lot of people, and israel, are now debating whether or not the Prime Minister, himself, is thinking about them at the highest priority. I think President Biden, will also, make that clear, that this doesnt need to be at the top of mind of any invasion in this risk. It is fully and hamass hands, right now, which is why they matter so much. The old, the young, the babies, that are not being captured right now that really boggles the mind. As we wait for the president that disembarks from Air Force One, lets go back to aaron gilchrist. Lets learn more about the fact where, there was a briefing, there was an update from two administrations from aboard Air Force One. It was in a highly rare situation, and it will be sitting inside of the war room, making the decisions on the israeli side. What more did we learn from that briefing on Air Force One from the trip over to washington d. C. , aaron . Very unusual to have that particular seen unfold. We know to hear, we scene unfol well note here we see Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu standing on the tarmac. Which really sets up the conversation
