Musical biography ‘Ethel Waters’ set to usher in ‘new era’ for Cap Rep | The Daily Gazette

ALBANY — Capital Repertory Theatre will host the musical biography “Ethel Waters: His Eye is on the Sparrow” from Aug. 20 through Sept. 26.
The production will be the first fully produced show in theREP’s new theater at 251 N. Pearl St. and the first show of the theater’s 2021-2022 season.
Written by Larry Parr, the show follows the life of actress and recording star Ethel Waters, who crossed racial barriers to win Grammy Awards, star in a television show and be nominated for both Emmy and Academy awards. Broadway veteran Jannie Jones will take on the lead role, which she created for the production’s world premiere in 2005. Jones has performed in theaters across the country as well as at theREP over the years.
