Despite having reopened to traffic at the end of last year, the bridge on main street in North Hatley will be closing again next week for at least a month in order to complete the last steps of the construction process that saw the structure closed for much of last year.
From Monday, May 10, until at least June 4 the bridge will be closed to all traffic to allow for the laying of the bridge’s final asphalt layer, waterproofing the bridge slab and backfilling the approaches. For the duration of the work, which might be extended in the case of bad weather, drivers will need to follow the same 20 kilometre detour as was put in place in 2020, following routes 108 and 143 and Sherbrooke Road to bypass the Massawippi River.
