Richardson City Council candidates Arefin Shamsul and Marilyn Frederick are headed to a June 5 runoff election.
Shamsul received 40.5% of the votes for the Place 6 race and Frederick had 30%. Candidates must earn at least 50% of votes to avoid going to a runoff.
The May 1 election also saw Joe Corcoran defeat incumbent Kyle Kepner for the Place 4 council seat. Corcoran received 53.4% of the votes and Kepner, who was seeking a second term, secured 46.6%.
