The National Police of Peru (PNP) caught 11,615 people violating the health protocols established to face the COVID-19 pandemic during operations carried out across the country on Sunday, May 9, until 6 a.m. the next day, Interior Minister Jose Elice has reported.
So far this year, he said, the PNP has issued 314,510 fines to those rule breakers for walking in the streets during curfew hours and without a work permit, traveling in private vehicles without authorization, not wearing a face mask, not carrying their ID card, or not keeping distance.
The minister urged everyone to adhere to the measures adopted by the Executive Branch in order to deal with the pandemic and noted that the first thing police officers do when they patrol the streets is raise awareness about the health hazards during this time of pandemic.
