Port Orange, FL - The Port Orange City Council has appointed Jonathan Foley to fill the vacant seat for District 1. They made the decision during a Special Meeting last night (January 5). Foley replaces former Council member Dr. Marilyn Ford, who officially resigned on December 18, 2020. Foley ran against Ford for the District 1 seat in a Special Election in April of 2019. Ford went on to a run-off race for the seat against Leandro Barriero. A Special Election is scheduled for April 13, 2021, to elect a new District 1 Council member.  Candidates must be a resident of Port Orange for at least 12 months, a registered voter of Volusia County, and a resident of District 1. To become a candidate, you'll need to file a petition signed by 50 qualified electors of the City with the City Clerk and pay fees required by law during normal business hours during the qualifying period, which is NOON on February 1, 2021, through NOON on February 5, 2021.
