University of Windsor engineering professor Narayan Kar has received grants totalling $1.8 million for a three-year project aimed at developing cheaper, more powerful and robust electric motors and drive systems.
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) has awarded Kar more than $1 million.

The project will also include Canadian auto parts supplier Magna International, Ottawa-based power device company GaN Systems and a researcher at Concordia University.
The companies will contribute more than $700,000 to the project.
