Ridgewood presents a beautiful world with 'Shrek: the Musical'
Three live performances this weekend
WEST LAFAYETTE - The opening song of "Shrek: the Musical" proclaims that it's a big, bright, beautiful world and that's what students in the Ridgewood Drama Department are seeing as the COVID-19 pandemic begins to subside.
Ridgewood High School canceled its annual spring musical last year due to the pandemic, but is having live performances of "Shrek: the Musical" this weekend along with an upcoming taped show that can be watched online. There are about 35 students involved on stage and behind the scenes.
Director Jill Collins and Music Director Haley Evans said they usually choose shows based on the available talent, but this year it was the students who made it clear what they wanted. The musical is based on the 2001 animated film that spoofs various classic fairytales and spawned four sequels. The Broadway production opened in December 2008 and ran for more than a year with national touring companies following.
