Welcome back cape town the South African coastal city with a population of roughly four Million People is on the verge of running out of water and people are talking about an apocalyptic apocalyptic sounding the day zero for like the zombies right its april twelfth is the day and unless it rains a lot it will be gone all the water the local reservoir is nearly bone dry and there are already traffic jams and long lines to fill water containers but voluntary rationing hasnt worked as officials had hoped the cape town Mayors Office released a statement which read we can no longer ask people to stop wasting water we must force them so today residents are limited to fifty liters of water just a little more than thirteen gallons each day residents are requested to take showers of no more than ninety seconds and some have resorted to recycling bath water to flush toilets last years South African drought along with Climate Change generally and the growing population in capetown are said to be the causes of the crisis meanwhile the hope is for a long period of rain at this point but in the next two weeks the weather says there is a zero percent chance of precipitation on all but two of those days and even on those two days theres only a twenty percent chance of rain forecast it will keep an eye on in our hearts hoping for an end to the dire circumstances which are impacting residents and businesses alike. And we stick with south africa for today and on one more inspiring story one that you may be more inspired than ever before i know i was in davos last week i sat down with tracey chambers who had an interesting idea about her professional Business Career and how to take what shed done in the Retail Sector and turn it into something that was good shes taking wasted reet retail stuff clothes shoes etc and its a wonder and it works and through her passion her program tracy chambers is helping build business women in south africa i ask her to first explain how it all got started. You know my pasta finding that was i work for one of south africas best retailers its called wallace but its not the same as the american will this is the equivalent of marks and spencers in south africa i was head of finance and i knew that we had a problem with waste its part of the retail model is its impossible to get supply and demand matched theres always going to be customer turns theres always going to be indices and merchandise and the retailers are really struggling with that as a business problem and what do they do with it they were trying to donate to charity but you can imagine its at the store level so they would allow a store to select a charity the store selects an orphanage and you know every quarter they call it theyll finish and say would you like to come and get some boxes of of stuff and it would go back and they would it would be christmas and they would go through the boxes. And maybe ladies dresses and high heel shoes and bras and if they were very very lucky a baby grow so really they really werent able to match the needs and so that the my business background and on the other hand ive taken a sabbatical just really looking to find my purpose in life. And in that moment i had a woman work for me a name is her name is beauty she raised my children shes now seventy two shes still in our lives and you know every every quarter i used to or every twice a year i used to clean our own wardrobe and other with fancy clothes and i had given to say to beauty would you like these and monday morning we used to celebrate how much money shed made and i really threw her in her and she was very entrepreneurial single mother of five children i knew that there was money to be made in the Informal Sector i knew there were hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands of single mothers so the statistics in south africa are frightening sixty eight percent of all children all mothers with children under the age of two or single. And the only safety net they have is about thirty dollars a month per child and you cant even buy milk and bread for that the other problem is that many many South Africans havent finished school our Education System is really failing. Previous generations and this generation listen fifty percent of children finish school and in order to pack shelves of the retailer that i worked at you needed a grade twelve certificate so youre education and your inability or you the lack that you didnt have in your life to finish school actually became a life sentence and the other thing is that South Africans given our history when particular entrepreneurial particular black South Africans. Particularly Blue Collar Workers a lot of families had been torn apart through migration and culturally we really needed to chime in cultivate a culture of i call it self employment you know were almost one step back from entrepreneurship where youre not necessarily inventing the business youre executing a business and really trying to get that inculpated show women that they can create their own wealth that they dont have to rely on somebody else to create their wells and secondly try and get that message to the next generation because i think if you had a great role model in your life the chances are that youre going to aspire to being selfemployed and entrepreneurial is much higher so we really put the two together. My business understanding my networks within the Retail Sector my understanding of my limited understanding at the time of the need and the demand for single mothers and my cofounder and i really had a cup of coffee we call it divine intervention the idea wasnt really there before we had the cup of coffee we threw it all in the mix we also threw in our selfish needs i wanted to teach and mentor but that all in the mix gave us and really in two thousand in the two thousand and nine artpop the idea of the Clothing Bank and weve been running ever since and the dog. Its just keep printing in terms of the work that we do so none of this would have happened had you given your access professional close to your Childcare Provider she sells them on a week and comes back on monday a giggle about how great it is that she made this money but that was sort of the genesis of this whole idea and then you got the concept at this divine coffee right yeah absolutely its a great overall Success Story but since you have been mentoring people individually tell me about some specific stories or one or two if you care about you dont have to use names if you dont want but let our viewers have a little bit more texture to what it means yeah so the typical mother that we work with is single. She might have might not of us finish school but if she has finished school the quality of his schooling is very basic math she she can hardly work out a percentage kind of thing but the main thing is that she she comes to us with with an icon mentality shes had so many failures she said so many traumas shes often been poorly parenthood and you know in the beginning we thought it was in the really easy fantastic product because you really do get fantastic for this in a second and clothing this is almost brand new clothing some business skills everybody is going to be successful and in our early years we had a lot of failure. I can think of one particular woman she was in a jet six she was bright she really wanted this but she kept coming back to that selfdoubt and i think the psyche the human psyche the mindsets that we have the poverty mindsets they are very powerful and even when opportunity presents itself we if youve been stuck in that mindset you cant reach for the opportunity its like your feet are stuck in cement so we had to learn so much about what it really takes to move people and sort of two years in we started to become more psychologists than the business special. Yes and now we really look for women who are have high self motivation but they also have a thing that we call internal locus of control and that means that they have a fundamental and mental belief that theyre in control of their own life that life is a series of choices from every choice i make i get a consequence from every one of those if i learn and seek you know understanding my life i will make different choices and if you find people like that you can work with them so weve had many many Success Stories ive actually bought your pack of Success Stories but the one that i sort of like to talk about is a is a mother she has seven children when you ask if she had a great great interview when you ask her why did you have seven children she said well every child was a stepping stone to a roof over my head. And those seven children of different fathers so as she was out of a home found a new boyfriend had his child thinking that that would mean that she would stay but of course it just doesnt its almost the opposite so until it came to us she had her children were hungry. She was really relying on her community to help her she tells us about the headmaster who helped to feed her child children close the children but shes a very very driven person and she has really grabbed this opportunity with both hands shes now not just trading in the product that we we saw shes trained she has she has found the spirit of the trader in the but the most beautiful thing is that she has two oldest children she has now signed up for college and she is so proud that she has paid those fees you know relying on anyone else on a government subsidy she paid them in the the satisfaction that you get from that is incredible the other second thing with her is that shes gone back to that school and she said if any child in the school live in needs clothing i can give you that because you help me she make sure that every child in a. Each as a birthday is celebrated and i think its that kind of individual that really want to cultivate you know you might need help at a time but its its what how do you possibly on how do you pay it forward. And yeah its that really spirit that were back to cultivate and it makes me think you won this prestigious award last year the western cape premier entrepreneur Recognition Award and i wonder if you have any advice that might be helpful for others were inspired by your story tracy but maybe theyre going to do something in a different light whats your advice to them either Nongovernmental Organisation or others who want to do some good like youve done you said i think the what ive what weve certainly learnt in our work. Is that charity she is probably the worst thing you can do you nobody wants charity nobody feels good when they get charity we could be giving these clothes away what we do is we sell them to the woman so that theyre learning real business principles but also its like if a sense of i didnt get a handout i actually can do this and that is its catalytic in someones life so i would say to any other nonprofits out there if youre giving charity youre actually trapping people in a state of dependency you destroying their selfesteem secondly i would say that if youre going to work you know with the with the type of woman that we work with theres no light touch approach you know average age of a woman is thirty five shes had thirty five years of trauma youre not going to undo that in a in a mornings life skills course or youre also not going to be able to teach business in a classroom so figure out a way a way and understand that this is a long term ginnie youre not always going to find the right person at the right time in their lives people are people and not everyone is going to be successful sometimes they circle back when theyre ready and and thats not a failure but make sure that you have to have a holistic program. You know we sort of i look at it since two thousand and ten we came in there with two pieces of the puzzle one that fabulous product second i was a business element time tested business that was two pieces of the puzzle we now probably have twelve pieces of the puzzle so as we learned my goodness we didnt understand that we need to put that in place and we really really cold and nature in an environment bring she just she finds herself again and thats really important if youre going to work with people its theyre not machines and human beings that complex and you need to get them given the environment and the ecosystem which in which they can to flourish he said earlier in the interview that you were trying to find your place in life and wanted to do Something Else and certainly this must be one thing its incredibly inspirational highly admirable more power to you thank you for the good work youre doing not only in south africa but the inspiration youre providing around the world tracy chambers c. E. O. And cofounder of the Clothing Bank in south africa thank you so much for being with us thank you thank you greg thanks very much. We have a few more of those interviews from davos which are also inspiring well bring to due to those in the coming days and before we go thursday night football is changing networks for the next five seasons and will be seen on fox networks pay roughly thirty five to fifty Million Dollars per game for broadcast rights although the new fox deal with the National Football league values each game at more than sixty Million Dollars and as it relates to a program noting a programming note here Tomorrows Program were going to talk about the business and economics behind the n. F. L. Coming up on Super Bowl Weekend with the patriots and the eagles and were not just going to talk about the crazy commercials well do a little bit of that but weve got lots about what do they do for example with all those jerseys that say they won the super bowl and then that team didnt anyway i hope youll check it out thats it. Now and we hope youll catch boom bust that boom bust on you to youtube dot com slash boom bust our to catch a lighter. For sports at worlds highest court aquash is the lifetime olympic bans handed down to over two dozen russian athletes accused of doping violations. By partisan divide deepens in washington with the white house expected to release a classified congressional memo on friday the document allegedly detail surveillance abuse. By the f. B. I. Including it. Was german intelligence warns that the children of fighters could be recruited to carry out terror attacks in the country describing them as living time bombs. Are broadcasting live from our studios in moscow this is Art International im sean thomas good to have you with us now the court of arbitration for sport has overturned olympic bans of twenty eight russian athletes accused of doping and upheld their results at the sochi winter games in two thousand and fourteen but his ego to be done as the story. This ruling has to be the olympic equivalent of having your exit cancelled at the last minute twenty eight its previously banned for life from the games and ill fully cleared of all doping allegations sanctions against them dropped nine hard won medals in sochi are set to return to their rightful owners named and shamed they refused all along to accept the punishment for being guilty by association youre done with its such a relief for us because were really are innocent the public is now where that many people believe that we dont but our close ones of course knew it wasnt true im really disappointed with the Olympic Movement its a complete mess. Theres a lot of uncertainty the bans were justified in some cases in others not im happy that the athletes in my sport. Have been partially acquitted and im sure well be promoting our movement further. Legal mechanisms exist and we hope well still have the time to fight for our rights if not at cas then in a civil court switzerland has a long history of considering cases if their original ive always said that the truth and justice always prevail in the end yet the verdict came with a catch. This does not mean that these twenty eight actually is articulate innocence but. Due to insufficient evidence the abuse of the sanctions and old individual results achieved in such reinstituted so hold on a second you yourself proclaimed theres no proof to convict these athletes what part of innocent until Proven Guilty in my not getting here this short remark is the latest twist in whats been a nerve racking roller coaster of a doping scandal for russias athletes the International Olympic committee initially slapped the russian team with a blanket Ban Following a report accusing the country of a state sponsored doping program the court of appeals heard both from the author of the report and its key witness though and didnt find their testimony convincing enough these two men who were involved in exposing all of this mess basically gave us enough evidence to say listen mcclaren water you see we dont believe you guys the tribunals conclusion has poked a sizable hole in the reasoning behind the i. O. C. His decision to bar russia from the olympics but the not guilty verdict does not guarantee a ticket to south korea later this month its still the see that gets the last say in who does go and who does not since the russian Olympic Committee is suspended russian athletes can participate in pyongyang only on invitation by the i. O. C. The result of the cash decision does not mean that athletes from the group of twenty eight will be invited to the games so for now even without an invitation to south korea the twenty eight russian athletes have potentially paved the way for other clean athletes to achieve justice but even with this battle won the war is far from over. We discussed the issue with a number of lawyers following the case they told us they welcome the decision. But this is a victory for common sense and the fundamental principles of the olympics over political whims weve always stuck to the principles journey i. O. C. Inquiry and we cast as well the limpy charter is based on them thats what appeared to qubaty in leftist when he created the Olympic Movement of first of all its a great victory for those twenty eight cleats. Over a year to claim their innocence and. This isnt confirmed that they have not committed any wrongdoing and the i. O. C. Had wrongly sanctioned them for something they had not done theoretically. You see could challenge those decision the grounds on which you can silence this isnt before this resupplying court are very limited and i dont see how they could be successful. Or you can see the reaction of one russian crosscountry skier after hearing the verdict natalia very who was one of the twenty eight athletes cleared of dumping was overjoyed at the courts decision. The release of a classified u. S. Congressional memo allegedly detailing abuses of surveillance of power surveillance powers by the f. B. I. Is expected it to be approved by President Trump on friday the possible move has already led to a major backlash from both the agency and the Democratic Party arties killed as more. Well a specter of anticipation is hanging over washington d. C. As everyone is anticipating the release of the memo now at this point weve already heard from many republicans who say theyve seen the memo and that the content is shocking theyre calling it worse than the watergate scandal now essentially the memo is purported and expected to show great abuses by the f. B. I. That essentially that they have the f. B. I. And the u. S. Department of justice were abusing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act in order to spy on donald trump that is what is being alleged now weve already got a recording of donald trump on a hot mike saying that the memo will be released just released. Around one hundred. The f. B. I. Is saying in complaining essential that they didnt have enough time to review the memo out before its pending release and weve also heard from adam schiff a top democrat who is saying that changes to the memo have been made without prior approval and its called on the white house essentially not to release it hes saying its not ready to be released there been changes that have been made to it that weve also heard from devon newness spokesperson devons known as the chair of the committee and he said that some of those changes actually came at the request of the democrats it was minor edits some grammatical fixes as well as two edits done at the request of the f. B. I. Now this medal is set to to really kind of challenge and kind of throw away some of the credibility of the f. B. I. As well as the entire russia investigation in response to this weve heard a number of Democratic Leaders say that the calls to release the memo are somehow a plot by the kremlin and as the hash tag release the memo went up on social media Top Democrats sending a letter to social media basically saying that they wanted them to investigate whether or not russian bots were. Behind the release but its gone further than that at this point weve now heard allegations that perhaps the force is responsible and the chairman of the committee could actually himself be a russian agent. Is it possible that the republican chair of the House Intel Committee has been compromised by the russians as a possible plea at all the russian agents running the House Intel Committee on the republican side i hope thats not the case i mean this is behavior speak about the i mean im not the first person whos raised this hes behaving like someone whos been compromised by. Investigators reportedly are interested in steins advocacy for better relations with russia any vote for stein is a vote that otherwise would have gone to hillary. Donna brazil would seemingly buy into full fuel propaganda spread by both the russians and her opponent candidates. If objection i note the senator from kentucky on the floor i will say before i read this if theres objection you are achieving the objectives of let me put. An executive director at the Eurasia Center in washington d. C. Believes that the memos release will throw the entire russia related probe into doubt. You know hes frustrated with the russia gate. Investigation of which after a year and a half we have no evidence whatsoever and now what weve got is actually evident. Could a backlash on the democrats absolutely i think thats the primary thats the fundamental reason why they do not one to release it really puts in the question this entire investigation it shows at least indications that could be further investigated but from the initial appearance severe bias with senior levels of our Law Enforcement agencies i think what hes concerned about here is i personally dont think anything in the memos probably is that embarrassing yes is that against will it threaten National Security i dont think so so the classification is probably more because its Sensitive Information and the president has the authority to release that
