Question of secret need to see things in perspective its righteousness this is a this is a global event which is which is why i think were struggling with this in such a way because it is very read it you that you encounter something that is global rugged and national reaching. Its not too wolf it does must strive for 6 years as we know it is not that intensity if i think back to my my grandparents i grew up in another the incident in the netherlands towards the end of 95. 00 which is not. In the know also colored people died of starvation because it was a severe winter and there was a severe shortage of fruit. I think this is a crisis but remus make sure that we dont turn this into a drama. Things will change things will change because the have to change things for change because they can change sinks will change to stabilise marxist and things will change to make matters better so i think we need to we need to keep this into perspective hurt so lets accentuate out the part of things will change that you know gradually what will change and what that means will this new generation of people coming out of carotene lake a semester on late education or maybe to we dont know maybe theres a bit of there are waves of corona in september and people will still have to be doing their course as our last white ballets will a generation have will they be socially responsible more and more eco conscious than prior generations when i think i think part of that has to do with our attitudes us adults im not a speck tensional 000000 s. So sure there is a danger dutch the next generation. Will grow up to be a free a School Generation a generation that doesnt take any risks because we keep telling them to be canceled theres a danger that schools for example will engage in less than less out of School Experiences and sad school the learning experiences of young people will will not now we are in charge of this and we see educators in the seattles need to be mindful of that so thats worse than cool down a sink 2nd day you can do different hope. And im an optimist those on the board of tunis. And i live in hope i think we will see a generation that is more kerry. We will see a generation that is more kind we will see and a generation that hopefully is more fat. And honest because they will have learned with their parents with other groups over this period that those qualities are the best qualities not expand has in terms of access to medical care and that caring and being kind to as a people is a good thing and honesty which is not always displayed by our leaders and politicians for example but that honesty is a good thing because you need to trust. And i think that we will and hope that we will see a generation that is much more emotionally intelligent and much more aware of the world around them than certainly we are. Emotional intelligence has become such a huge factor in all of this actually i was talking to this amazing nero of Science Scientists the other day and she was saying shes almost 80 years old she and i must say this here scientists or engineers think there are 3 things that are going to save us in this tsunami Emotional Intelligence empathy and curiosity would you agree with that and would you would you agree that this is what we should be installing at our kids. I think so yes but but not to us theory so because these things you cannot teach those things you can you could make children aware of them but you need to put them in situations you need to facilitate situations rabbi they can experience those things because curiosity do google curiosity is a very different curiosity into real life curiosity and touched your curiosity honestly i would out a force to that and it is attached to curiosity if couch related or risk taking because because there needs to be an active. Outcome in this and active outcome his to do things to have a purpose and to move forward to rather than to see arise in the schooling kind of way and i think thats incredibly important and with of course you dont link to the aspects of of resilience and aspects of persevered and its those qualities of not giving up even if you get things wrong wants or even if you find that you dont like so finding that you dont like so zigs is a positive another negative so i would i would on the element of calculated risk taking to got natacha to teacher eos a key element of this report you much has 1st i mean a lot isnt hands on what our Education System and its going to look like after the economics were all waiting for this to be over but we are seeing it as we see how the whole system is being transformed our and further and we go ahead at more rehear add up the thing that you know their own line education is the future and this is going to replace a 1. 00 to 1. 00 Class Communications sort of education so what is your take he didnt think the the Education System itself is going to undergo a drastic change. So i sincerely hope so i think one of the things that isnt done to make me smile positively or not this at times is that the distinction we have. In the future we need to address as a matter of urgency now so so i think i think a test greek crisis often changes ground her case and changes to speak of implementation. I hope im convinced that or lying will not replace offline it would be a very bad thing if that house. And i think one of the interesting things thats happening is that many things that would meant to her death were for cost right futurists more techie people who have these people. I think will they will prove to be wrong to schools particularly the Elementary School has proven to be such an important factor globally in coping with this because the school all of the sudden is much more to do school it has become a Community Center where in the core of disadvantaged onsen there were people of access to people of access all sorts so i think we need to think around not what is going to be replaced but what is going to be different schools will exist they might not quite exist the new way to june out and one hopes that it does because the way schools exist that im open goes back to the Industrial Revolution the way that we teach children which should be just as youre saying that everything is based being paced out 5 instant everything that was supposed to happen in 10 years is happening now what youre saying youre saying all an education is excluded its not going to replace 1. 00 to 1. 00. Class ok so that thing where there isnt one what will change 20 thing will be different about the educational system that were going to be after this next i think 1st and for was just to come back to the core i think Online Education will rip will online will play an important part in the future of education it will not replace. It will not replace want to watch it real and hunts it it will add value it will allow children to learn differently individually it will allow children to learn differently in groups because the groups can be everywhere and it will allow children access to knowledge quicker and better and the kind of access that you cannot get in this group it will not however replace the classroom deschooling will throw remain the focal point of the way to teaching ok since the exit is out of the communication the student and teacher get 1001. 00 will say the same youre saying in their own way catherine is just be an addition to will have any have and i think and i think we also needs to when we have this conversation i think we need to have a picture in our head of what remey by the child and who we mean by the child so the one thing that is absolutely clear that this crisis allows you to shine light and sometimes those lights are shown in areas that are less attractive and one of those less attractive areas is the enormous inequality gap that clearly is still less too much child are we talking about when were talking about Online Learning are we talking about the child who goes to the Independent School in moscow or in london where the parents can afford a big house the child has a room on his or her own and has access to i pads i phones laptops and whatever else or are we talking to the child who lives. Interfet you sandra who lives on in a bit in the disadvantaged deprived areas house this small where there is no Internet Access when a parents cant hole. Or not which child is it were talking about so i think we need to be extraordinarily minds that when we have this conversation that we dont generalize and that we need to link it to real people i think the biggest danger that has come out educationally to distrust is it has highlighted. Inequality that exists and i think one of the success educationally. That changes access to the internet for educational purposes needs to be added to this that essentially schumer right professor will be right back whatever battle continue talking to professor cantor house about how the new generation will be shaped after they coded 19 pandemic s. Over staring us. As the culture war d rages on and they did the billionaire class is only getting wealthier theyre well iraq 20 percent or 584000000000. 00 since the start of the pandemic splash law how will this fact sheet to complete coverage and his extermination underclass in the north. West need to. Know when youve been able to molest that solicit it. From the regular morgue or your home or your car. Wash ashore psyche or get us lucifer this photo is just that. It is not my achievement mr davies our 5 beautiful lands were conceived. And carried out by the people themselves if alan would produce or even florek it with the idea of making a film like this probably be branded as crazy. Now is the sentiment during the war the soviets were brave heroes resisting nazis thats going to change of course after the war but once the cold war begins. Little people think that hollywood is a free glitz but really what is a strictly. Business and the other side is. How would i define hollywood is they call it a dream manufacturer which i thinks true but i think equally its a problem and the fact. Geysers financial survival. When customers go by. Then else well reduces our. Thats undercutting but whats good for market is not good for the global economy. We go to work so you can stay home. And were back with professor gary grass talking about what happened to youngsters coming out of the code 19. More than anything this crisis has highlighted the gap between the wealthy and and the poor in terms of how their children are coping with the online courses and also correct me if im wrong but i do feel like 99 percent of parents of their kids at home figured out that the only of course is there is no way they. Can be you know something that would replace one on one education with a teacher is specially for them beginners i mean when you know your attention spends so little and you need to be guided a step of the way i mean you can expect like 678 year old kid to sit in front of a computer for 5 hours and be focused on whatever stitcher is saying right with them but then youre saying that that for sure now i understand that they own education will not replace what i want to keisha but youre saying that we will have the additional all at platforms so youre saying that we should make sure that everyone has access to those platforms and that is the that is the firmest cold for the future that is the 1st. Next thing that we need to do is we dont need to send. Or qualify rather than invent the place that Online Learning has within this Big Education crease and ill give you a very simple example so so if i say. If im talking about teaching children about traffic for example read up car traffic or public transport or flying then to be able to use the internet to interview kylix cabin crew and people who design glades to touch a touch of reality to our practice and experience to siri the internet is a super. Tool to do that so so dot content development and i didnt value is immensely important but of course it always brings us back to that 1st point if you havent got Internet Access you are excluded from high quality education not fact they also access to internet and they not have access that is his hat is that surely if they are going to have the addition of a lead platform to help them cope with their education. It is some somewhat sketchy b. Has to make sure that as kids will filter when to seen internet and what not to say so i think i think that is a whole new big dialogue and part of that is a dialogue of trust and of joint responsibility so every child will become everyones response to that and you know we have a very odd at times arrangement i smiled a number of occasions during this crisis so for example everybody was complaining that children were spending too much time online terrible. All of a sudden we want to spend time online because weve discovered a moment sealed a way to take into so that debate seems to shift that night as the debates that need to shift around who is responsible for what and one of the things that are not super clear about is that we need to address the issue of parents asco educators not just parents who send children to school and the times so want of a better way of putting it absolves their responsibility but i truly doubt that education of the child is in tandem and in partnership i also seeing incidentally is an interesting thing is that ive been a have always been of the good citizen children quickly as a follow up question before i go on sorry for. Interrupting you but dont you think will be tapping into a dangerous territory if we have parents as coeducation or sick as well as have this really clear cut sort of division that school takes care of education and herons take care of bringing up i mean you know getting good morals out of making better can set good human beings and getting that access to good education and then at school takes care of education do you think teachers will be ok with parents starting to coeducation they have to take the kids we need to define this let me give you a very simple example so schools are there to school and not debt to educate children educate your children is a much wider spectrum schooling is monday tuesday wednesday thursday friday 9 to 4 delivering to subjects teaching the subjects that the rick government requires them to see the education of the child underwrote of the past and is isnt adding value so for example again you have just studied. This shakespeare. Curing in an English School is just 3800. 00 or much ado about nothing whatever it is. The role of the pair are made and well be defined as erect the plate in trust youve interpreted the play in class the parent does homework define really home who it will be to as a family either go and see it in the series or all watch it on a video at home so that the child has a good im gald 2 approaches why would the not so education is a matter of coal educating deschooling is a responsibility of the school heres another. Large question i guess is the knee are generations of digital age if they cant imagine life without cash heads which are for young people becoming a National Extension of themselves so handwriting as a scale is becoming obsolete and adding in her that reading handwritten tax can be add as time went by for that is that thing or is it just the natural course of evolution sam trying to figure it out for myself of that for the children. I know i works. There is research to suggest that that is the case and i would strongly advocate particularly in the early years of schooling i. E. The equivalent of Elementary School but how writing just like arithmetic is a skill is a life skill and desolate needs developing we will take notes who take quick notes. We will practice writing in a creative form and it just allows its the functioning of the brain that allows the child to develop better than just put him in front of a keyboard and teach him to talk. Ok talking a bit more about putting a hit in front of a key more Computer Internet the mountain information that comes into our lives for the internet is growing exponentially and what i may find overwhelming fourchon days kids is natural and they never get thrilling this dashing flow of information is an indication that the new generation actually is smarter than us. Small. B c i think theres a small also very quick to access web today. Too. To try to progress that information and for judgments to other right judgments that is to be seen. So ive reserved and i have a 40 year old and full of admiration i think what shes able to do i was never able to do but then i suppose if i look back what my parents sent of me is that was i was able to do they were able to do so perhaps thats a natural progression anyway i do think however that we need to rethink in general that role of technology and education and the role of technology and would have been working a good number of years and every time a new Technological Development came along i was strongest it would make my life easier i was even promise that i might work 3 and a half or 4 days per week and have more time to myself i now have a global role if i dont turn my phone when i go to bed it will bring 24 hours i promise you its not made my life easier and surely we would like to equip our children with just give to make that works and we dont just talk about full time employment but we talk about self deep roy so that they also know how to go to a museum and a gallery. If it will not show whatever it was really going to do without spreads are that weve been promised so. The title of thinks an interesting life has had many here are scientists lately and they tell me that our brains and the brains of people before the internet and present Digital Natives or a completely different way are helming to the big generation gap with aldus transformations. I dont know im not sure that we are im not sure that the generation gap were heading into is any bigger than that which you and your parents realize. As everybody for generations has been talking about about generational jumps i just think we do need to think around and again i think whats happened is that the to speed with which technology has has evolved. In a sense is faster than we can keep up with and if i look for example of the influence of social media on on young people i think we need to be very mindful of the Mental Wellbeing within this enormously Rapid Development of myristic issued a human nature is such we can adopt but we do need to watch this because because we dont want a generation of people were mentally not well what do you think of that in a crucial next 1020 years. Very clearly being. Dismissed one being able to cope with change positively. Im too to embrace change positively and what i mean by that is that so so my grandfather was a coal mine in the south that all the lawn jockey stops what you want he was 14 he finished when he was 66 my father had 2 jobs one if you have 2 he just the company went bankrupt folks so detroits obvious sector job was not his choice he was forced to do it i thought the no 67 jobs under all bills my choosing. What is quite clear that my kids will have god knows how many jobs also how many tusks within a job. They need to know that change will help them that change is a good thing if you are in charge of the change that affects here and that requires an element of courage selfconfidence. And risk taking. And so i see everything surrounding being able to manage change positively and who out with a smile on your face i think is out to seem does the single biggest challenge that our young people will face and will succeed is them such a pleasure talking to you here really lifted my spirit out and made me look to our city share and our optimistic way so i thank you so much for this wonderful. And your insight on how we should be with our kids and how it should be anything and then for they hear a stranger thank you so much that theyre not going to just like you so much but you. Is youll be via reflection of reality. In a world transformed. What will make you feel safe from. Isolation full community. Are you going the right way or are you being led so. Direct. What is true what is faith. In the world corrupted you need to descend. To join us in the depths. Or a made in the shallowness. We start to add to. Your need for good in each other than the human one. But on the but im going to do the book on the soul that this is me just. Instead of. Me musha im learning t. Must do i feel is totally stuck or even i suppose from the course for me. Is just located off the coach of the church. We think you minds be soviet soldiers to piece off the boot shes wearing. To church so the sold out so quickly move to a possible opinion was with building the new one like it on the shore stuck in the summer watching the police force sort of us hold up. Well coming up here is from around the world live from Central London this is r. T. U. K. A Major Incident in glasgow as 3 people are stabbed to death and the suspect to be shot dead by police. A group of academics and doctors criticize u. K. Government plans for a large scale coronavirus Antibody Testing claiming they provide false hope we hear from one of them a w. H. O. Advisor. To. The u. K. Government warns of a clamp down as thousands flaps social distancing on englands beaches. And as the u. K. Eases its lockdown some businesses are getting ready to reopen but others are left in limbo we talked alone of course to keep their doors shut. This is our city u. K. We start with breaking news from scotland youre currently looking at live pictures of Glasgow City Center where a serious incident has taken place 3 people have died following a stabbing and 6 people are being treated in hospital the police have said the suspect was shot dead. Actually joins me with all the latest on this shot here take us through whats happened so what we know so far is that a Major Incident has been declared in glasgow now essentially the entire area is really in a lockdown scenario comes of course as 3 people will stop to death in glasgow park and hotel on west George Street in the city center just to give you an idea its a stones throw away from the main shopping district in the city center so several people have been injured we believe in the stairway of the park in a hotel 6 people are now being treated in hospital the police have confirmed that the suspect. Was shot and has now subsequently died as a result of their injuries now in addition the police also confirm that a Police Officer was really badly injured in this incident as well as being treated in hospital we understand that the officer is in a Critical Condition but at this point in time is stable now the Prime Minister Boris Johnson has released a statement saying he is deeply saddened by the incident in glasgow and thanks to the Emergency Services who continue to respond at the scene so if we look at some live pictures you can see theres still a huge heavy Police Presence and theres a huge also response from the Ambulance Services as well the police also moved very quickly on to the scene sealed off westward street for quite some time its still. Cordoned off and being pushed back even further down the road as the minutes go by now weve also heard from some eyewitnesses they saw people being treated at the scene on the pavements by the hotel some even being seen on the floor of the reception of the park in hotel eyewitness actually spoke to r. T. A little earlier this afternoon and said the Police Responded very quickly to the scene. So you walk in a phone shop a very close to a dancer that hop into me out a whole decide and edging towards the street. Where the incident took place so when theyre not got back i dont look so much i got a camera no started it wasnt so many blocks very quickly i realized it wasnt just a Police Incident because it was more the more police and ivan the resemblance he said ive been in and some of the Police Officers of the town and out well almost in through and Police Uniform with the guns and things that are so. I realize its quite serious people that were on the bottom is all confusion people being moved out of the area and the people was into the scene and mind in stabbing people and other people saying there was a bank robber who was really unclear what was happening across but in the numbers he came in we see people being a quick little been taken away and then we salute kluger the c. D. s i just hear there that if he put in a past that we believe that in the 10th jamie can you describe the area way where you are at the moment and way you saw the incident take place we had been before that it was in a hotel could you give us a few more details yes so. In the main street is where im back at my my office no up just him but he insists i just want to be for that is to to buzz in is this this cause and things i dont buy the tell you in is it just oh say twitter believe the hotel was but we didnt know before theres a bank close to that which is we came to meet since that we thought maybe there was a fight broke to get on. Now we understand that the hotel park and hotel is not actually at this moment time being used in normal operation as a hotel but being used as temporary accommodation during the corona virus pandemic but we dont know at this point any reason or motivation behind the attack we dont know if the suspect had any connection to any of the victims whether there was an incident that triggered all sparked it or whether it was indeed a very random attack the police of course wont come out to say anything until they know absolutely for sure what has happened so it could be quite a few hours till we are also made aware of what actually was happening at the scene earlier this afternoon we have heard from the Scottish Police federation representing the operations who say that the area is in lockdown and issued a whole list of streets to avoid weve also heard from the scottish 1st minister Nicola Sturgeon shes tweeted out everyone to stay away she says shes being updated on the situation as it becomes clear and she asks everyone to help the Emergency Services by staying right but also not to share any unconfirmed information weve also had from the home secretary patel she says its deeply alarming the reports coming from glasgow please follow Police Advice and again thanking the Emergency Services for their doing that of course is a message that has again been reiterated by the labor leader so kissed ahmed who also has taken to twitter to say his thoughts are with all of those who are involved the Police Though have said that the incident is contained at this stage of scottish a Police Spokesperson has confirmed its contained and says theres no further threat to the public at this point in time obviously this is a very developing story weve got many on conform unconfirmed reports coming out were trying to get a clearer picture as the minutes go by but one thing is for sure there is no further danger to the public according to the police but the key message to the public in scotland is to stay away from the area. The terrorist actually thank you very much indeed well for more on the events in glasgow im now joined by a former Police Officer on the u. K. Special branch counterterrorism lets talk to david david thank you for joining us this hasnt been labeled terrorism we must stress that but it is still a serious incident with a large Police Presence the response is very similar isnt it very similar you know the as a as a liberal is saying that we have 3 people who fortune have lost their lives you know 6 people who are being treated for injuries including a Police Officer so what is going to be crucial now for the investigation is to ascertain what the motive is as your reporter is rightly say there could be a number of causes you know that the that could have been a grievance amongst the residents there thats triggered it with you know that theres so d many possible but central motives and thats going to be crucial now for the police to try innocence say why did you do it and have been instances in recent weeks as weve seen in the last week stabbings in reading for instance. Thats right and that you know this started off as a Major Incident and then became a terrorist incident and of course with that one there was a suspect in custody and of course by changing it to a terrorist incident to section 41. 00 the terrorism act its a its a different schedule that governs their detention so thats one advantage of going to a terrorist incident to be so inviting but hey you know that so lets wait and see what happens but you know that its shows you again how a knife or a sharpie plated instrument can be so lethal you know in them and we did with one we cant take these crimes lightly it as weve heard from the police in scotland that the suspect has been shot dead but in the meantime whats going on behind the scenes right nighty thing. Absolutely as you well know obviously as it is the same the cold and are so forensic evidence will be gathered over this is witnesses they will be absolutely crucial especially those inside the hotel possibly. You knew this individual who may witness what happened prior to the stabbings that is what hes got just premises and the premises because of his control it sounds as though he may not have too many but what devices as he got what was he looking at so theres quite a thats why we may or may not and so for a good few hours until this report from police got and of what the motive was behind this crime so theres quite a lot of work the police stuff the movie doing right now in the meantime as we had also a Police Officer has also been stabbed i mean perhaps it allegedly but will later be questions about operational responses especially given the officers that were also hurt during the rioting in london as well. Well you know it all an incident like this is its its part of that is part of the police job and were still fortunate in britain and other b. S. And i routinely armed and not known but our Police Officers are not routinely armed and its something i think that were still very proud of because we police by consensus here unfortunately weve seen. Too often the early ones is always too often but were on our Police Officer has been killed keith power is a classic example from 2017 outside westminster but also that you see the Police Response with the armed officers very very quickly scotland responds this very very quickly and dealt with it very very quickly and you know what i was in there was a hard decision for one of those officers certainly one of those offices this individuals life but as i was he made that assessment 3 people dead still pose a threat there for the suspect as lost his right to life and on a date it was the best advice for the public in these situations well its a sad situation is that were you know things are returning back to normal certain aspects its a lockdown of the you know coming to an end. Its just a dont be frightened of it its just lets be a little bit more vigilant which would improve the pandemic if youre not happy with anything that puts the security the premises youre out reported to the police and let them deal with it to be dealt with sensitively its just that just be a bit will that some but dont be frightened that had a good life thank you very much indeed for talking to us. Well that i spoke to form at metropolitan chief superintendent tao bob and he said the public should resist the urge to share footage on social media and tell the families of potential victims have been informed. Theres lots of speculation we understand that the hotel was used as a temporary accommodation so theres speculation about whether to sort of Homeless People or whether its through terrorism related really gang related i mean it could kind of quite frankly be all of those and none of those and thats the difficulty with these kind of situations because theres a thirst to 24 hours the news what we will have now which we didnt have in the in the parties images will be circulated and its really very important turn not to speculate around where it is because we just dont know there are so many different variations of what could happen i think the key thing is to listen to the official messages that are coming out and the police are basically saying the only incident is contained that now would suggest that they have and they are confident that theyve they have identified all the victims and the suspect but thats not clear this day and the other clear bit of advice its been given by a number of the Key Stakeholders is dont go to the area so i think you can help the Emergency Services by avoiding the area and also help the Better Services but in terms of information as well what kind of advice do the police say to the public when they say fix me people will have been taking photos and videos here how does that help the police investigation. Well if they send the images to the police i think it may be helpful but i think whats very very worrying is that theres an element of selfishness here people take images and start circulating it and sometimes they identify people and so loved ones would have no idea about whats happened to the nearest and dearest and then they suddenly see a picture of somebody somewhere noose induced been looking injured or looking distressed or being a victim of crime so i would appeal to people who are thinking of circulating images that theyve taken to think very carefully to think about the well being of the victims that there may photograph but also their friends and families who would have no idea of whats actually happened and it and its much better for people to be informed that somebody as i theres certainly been in and been a victim of a fatal act or has been injured if a Police Officer were trained individual goes along and actually shares im from asian as opposed to just seen on social media. Ah no team no crowd. No shots no. Actual news felt. Really strong no arrests were. Points your thirst for action. Join me every thursday on the alex salmond show and ill be speaking to us from the world of politics sports business im show business ill see you then. Welcome back a group of academics and doctors have criticized u. K. Government plans for a large scale Antibody Testing claiming they are based on untrustworthy data Boris Johnson praised the testing as a potential game changer back in may antibodies are left when patients recover from the virus but researches say theres no guarantee they provide immunity or stop people infecting others all of this and i joined by one of the researchers professor biostatistics and w. H. O. Advisor john davis john thank you for joining us the government has praised the Antibody Test as we heard as Game Changers so whats the problem with the well this 2 issues really what one is that we seem to be running a bit fast with thinking how well they work and so the piece of work that weve been completing with teams from across europe and canada has been looking at every single study we can find evaluating these tests and trying to actually understand how much we know about how well they work the 2nd issue is we have to know where they should be used and what it means when you actually have an Antibody Test and either get a positive or negative response in terms of how they should change our lives do they change the metol and from what were saying that question isnt really very clearly arts at because we at the moment we do not know whether these tests actually tell you whether youve got long term immunity and also its as you say its a new disease as well isnt it so cantu bodies provide immediately in some cases. Well this is something were going to take a little bit of a while to work out because its something we have to follow people over time to discover whether having antibodies leads you to be protected so for some diseases we see that it does for other diseases the antibodies will disappear quite quickly so what we were doing was looking at all of the studies so far up to the end of april we found 54. 00 studies of these tests and none of them told us how long the antibodies last beyond 5 weeks that they too isnt there were continuing to look at the Research Studies and next month well publish a lot more data and hopefully well get some information but at the moment we have very limited knowledge so were fact if we will be guessing and hoping rather than actually basing decisions on evidence if we think this is telling us about long term immunity so in the absence of anything else they can Antibody Test help. Well they help people do Public Health questions so Antibody Tests tell you whether youve had disease and so finding out in a setting such as in a hospital or in a care home who has had disease which members of staff in a hospital got infected will help people work out whether or not theyre protecting their staff properly so in terms of thinking about how we should manage Health Care Resources in those settings are high risk settings they can be very useful and theyre also being used to work out how many people have had codes it so we have ciro prevalence surveys going on to actually count how many people have had it but there is we have a question there to say well if we dont know whether or not these tests work after 5 weeks how are those studies actually working so their Public Health levels but for individual person i know and lots of people were very interested to know whether an illness they hadnt stayed at home was coded or was not coded but its not really going to make them be able to decide to live their life in a different way it doesnt mean that youve got protection from getting it again or infecting other people if you get it again so we just have to wait at the moment to find out what antibodies these are these antibody response is actually mean and also our antigen test more useful for those who have the virus rather than those whove had it. So antigen test these are the tests like swab test which detects the virus directly you can only get those working in the 1st few days of the infection because theyre actually trying to tell you whether or not the virus is in your body and so there they are the diagnostic test which we really need to have accessible in the u. K. And very easy access and very quick to be able to identify the people who have the disease who are infectious and who need to isolate so that there are very different type of test and theyre very more useful for making quick decisions as to the isolating people and treating people for this disease and finally then the w. H. O. Has said that lockdown should only be lifted with a test and trace regime in place therefore has the u. K. Gone too soon. So the test and trace regime is looking at using these antigen tests to pick people up and we do have a system of doing that and we have companies and local Public Health teams who are doing that so we do have some sort of system how well it works is the big question how well people are being identified so. Yeah were a little bit concerned that its not the people talking about its not picking up all the cases at the moment as was discussed in pm queues this week so we need to make sure it works well but we have the start of a system it would be good if wed had it a long time ago but yes were moving in the right direction now and the faster we get this working well the better it will be for us so yes indeed Professor John thanks many thanks for clarifying all of that thank you thank you to a pleasure. Now the government has warn the public it could be forced to close beaches after thousands flock to the coast as his critics warn unclear rules on the easing of the coronavirus lockdown has left britains confused about whats allowed traffic jams overcrowding and antisocial behavior were seen as beachgoers travelled for hours to reach the dorset coast and south of England Border with Christ Church and pool council declared a Major Incident and said services were completely overstretched it prompted the chief medical officer to plea for people to respect social distancing or risk undoing previous efforts while the Health Secretary warned action could be taken if infections rose as a result. Gotta respect the rules you have to respect the fact that social distancing is still important and we do have we do have those hours and if we see a spike in the number of cases then we will take action well the chief executive of u. K. Hospitality kate nichols told me that reopening the site to will actually help control the kinds of scenes seen on the beach and. What we do know is that if we open our hospitality sector if we open our hotels or holiday card selfcatering accommodation we can help manage social distancing in those Public Places clearly at the moment crowds are keen to get out into the sun and without all the facilities and support packages that has been sanity can provide they are left with nowhere to go so i think reopening was the tallahassee will help to manage that move towards and to leisure Outdoor Activities in a safe and more Sustainable Way and also we can make sure that were providing the hygiene the sanitation the cleaning facilities for all of those people to to enjoy and keep them safe while theyre out enjoying the good weather but what is there if theres a big influx of tourism to a very small area that could be local outbreaks could that. Well we have to make sure that we are doing everything we possibly can to keep our guests and our local Community Say clearly. Terrorism and us to tell it is business as they are right at the heart of that community so they dont want to do anything which would make their communities unsafe they would be putting in place world beating protocols for cleaning hygiene sanitation to make sure that the risk of infection is controlled and minimized if not eliminated and we will be working hard to keep our teams safe and our customers safe while they are staying with us its in all of our interests to make sure we do everything we can to have socially responsible holidays socially responsible for us to tell it see and to encourage ok guests and customers when they come down to the southwest or to the Lake District to be responsible to take care of their own hygiene and sanitation and to protect our economy. Was the u. K. As its kind of our slowdown some businesses are getting ready to reopen but others are being left in limbo and those are the u. K. Casar only reports the reason appears to be far from play and imposing the kind of arms locked around with simple and easy to understand for the public and for business is essential work only only shop for food and medicine when it comes to the reopening its much more complex some businesses cant open and some cant and in many cases theres no obvious reason why im acutely conscious the people will ask the questions about why certain activities are allowed and others are not and i must ask the house to understand the virus has no interest in these debates its only in press its only a ambition is to exploit any opportunities to recapture ground that we might care this for the vacate there are some contradictions pubs restaurants cinemas. Holes are all set to open but in doing jims pools and spas often more spacious well ventilated i would strict cleaning regimes already in place cant and if its about safety the Business Owners say that making those necessary changes to observe the one meter possibly ice now in place in england wont be too difficult at all theyre not always packed so you often find space and people in the gym at the same time to also take a lot of time and effort into cleaning and you know theres a lot of emphasis on wiping things down after use and sanitation and so on so. Its difficult to really say i mean they probably could have made provisions considering that people will be packed in pubs probably making body contact knowing the gyms. That im aware of the number of people they employ. Compared to a bar or restaurant etc the gyms do employ less people so i would say that there probably is more pollen getting people back into work and and and you know even revenue and kind of the the revenue that these kind of establishments generate will be will be higher than most gyms comparative gym so there are even anomalies and social distancing has fallen for instance cant open with the right kids while other beauty parlors in the tourists remain shut for businesses such as night clubs whats needed is confirmation but at some point they will be able to open and more Financial Support from the government neither of which appear to be forthcoming seriously because recent. Give us some dates or understanding on how long this is going to stop financially work starts and start to let them understand when and how theyre going so a lot of this is about so many people at the moment really on the brink and weve got to start taking a Human Element of peoples lives you know were playing with and we need to get to. When the results that i know theyre saying that can save everybody but the fact of the matter is hes we need to try moves that would get so and then people can generate that rest stop coming back the government says its conducting sector by sector reviews to help those who cant open to do so out of date but with warning of a 2nd wave of the virus and the possibility of lockdowns to come business is unable to make any money during the current easing of restrictions fear of that means they may never open the doors again. Ill be back with more news at the top of the hour including the latest from that serious incident in glasgow where 3 people have been stabbed to death and a suspect shot dead by police.
