Nearly a year after the Seattle Police Department abruptly closed its East Precinct headquarters, the question has still not been answered sufficiently.
The decision contributed to the creation of the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest zone, a six-block area set up initially by sympathizers of the Black Lives Matter movement. Former Seattle Police Department Chief Carmen Best would later tell her officers on June 11 that "leaving the precinct was not my decision."
