Following the striking of a recent business deal, lithium mined near Separation Rapids near Kenora is set to make its way to a brand-new production facility in Thunder Bay.
Announced on March 31, the deal will see lithium mined by Avalon Advanced Minerals Inc., located about 70 kilometres north of Kenora – sent to Fort William First Nation land in Thunder Bay for refinement. While a production facility does not currently exist, construction of a plant built on the city’s waterfront is expected to begin by the end of the year. Also involved in the project is Rock Tech Lithium Inc., which will send additional minerals to Thunder Bay from its development property at Georgia Lake near Sudbury.
