Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed officials to purchase 5,600 buses for the state road transport corporation in response to the success of the Shakti scheme, which offers free travel for women across the state. A budget of Rs 500 crore has been allocated for the acquisition of new buses. Since the launch of the Shakti Scheme, there has been a 15% increase in the number of passengers travelling on State Road Transport Corporation buses.
