Central Davidson's softball team celebrated senior night in style with a 4-0 non-conference win over Porter Ridge on Wednesday.
The Spartans (6-1, 3-1 Central Carolina 2A) — ranked No. 14 in the West in HighSchoolOT's midseason poll — honored seniors Emma Leonard, Kalei Merrill, Emma Jackson, Paisley Tate and Korina Lookabill prior to the game.
Junior pitcher Salem Ward pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits and two hit batters while striking out 13 over seven innings.
Natalya Salo was one of the few bright spots in the loss for the No. 24 Pirates (5-2, 5-1 Southwestern 4A). The freshman pitched all seven innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts. She also recorded a couple of base hits in the batter's box.
