The Laurentian University debacle was such a massive failure of oversight and accountability that I still can’t believe it happened the way it did. The whole thing was infuriating in its crudeness and clumsiness.
As a lifelong Sudburian, it left me feeling heartsick and somewhat hopeless regarding this city. I am left ashamed of the Laurentian leadership and embarrassed for my city.
And now, against all logic and evidence, in a process as opaque as that of the university fiasco, the Kingsway Entertainment District project gets the go-ahead by a slim margin. Serious matters that were supposed to be addressed in this final consultant review, were not dealt with. Thus, the report appeared to be a thinly veiled whitewash of the KED that did not even examine Project Now, the leading alternative and cheaper contender.
