I am dismayed that a statement from me in The Star (‘The day the music died: Laurentian closing its music department,’ Saturday, May 1) seems to demean another post-secondary school of music.

Your reporter was speaking to me about my response to the Laurentian Department of Music closure from my perspective as a performing musician and member of the board of directors of the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra, as well as a former director of the Laurentian Concert Band from 2008-20. As such, our discussion revolved exclusively around the area of instrumental music: woodwinds, brass, and percussion.
