WORCESTER – Citing lack of interest, the school department has shelved plans to open a virtual academy this fall.
According to Superintendent Maureen Binienda, as of Tuesday only 43 families had shown interest in the proposed online school, which would have been for seventh- and eighth-graders. The district was aiming to enroll 125 students.
“I think people have just had it with remote learning, and just want their kids to be back in school,” she said, referring to the online schooling model Worcester had for most of this year for all its students during the pandemic. “Maybe this isn’t just the right time for it.”
