The housing and urban development department has decided to introduce mechanical sweeping machines in eight more urban local bodies (ULBs) of the state to improve sanitation in the urban areas. The ULBs which will get the new machines are Berhampur, Sambalpur, Jeypore, Balangir, Bargarh, Rayagada, Keonjhar, and Talcher. The machines use vacuum technology to reduce dust levels and cover 60 km of roads in one go. The selected ULBs will receive the machines by the end of March.
