Housing Plan Calls for 1.5 Million New SoCal Homes

Housing Plan Calls for 1.5 Million New SoCal Homes
Commentary
Southern California counties, cities and jurisdictions need to provision for 1.5 million new homes throughout the next eight years.
California’s Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) works with local jurisdictions, analyzing population growth, job growth and transportation infrastructure to develop mandates for how many new homes jurisdictions must plan for.
The approach includes city planning as well as working with local transportation, safety and utility authorities to ensure home builders and housing developers have what they need to build 1.5 million new homes in the next eight and-a-half years.
Cities, of course, cannot force economic expansion, nor force property developers to build. Housing will only get built if the economic opportunity for the property developer exists to build. However, town planning, utility hookups, fire and safety and transportation networks all also have to exist and those are all the work of counties, cities and other local jurisdictions to accomplish.

Nola pitches 1st 9-inning shutout, Phillies beat Cards

No rumble needed.
“I knew he had never had a nine-inning shutout and that was important to him and that’s why I let him go,” Girardi said.
Nola struck out 10 and threw a two-hitter for his first nine-inning shutout in the majors, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 2-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.
Bryce Harper homered and had three hits for the Phillies.
Nola threw a pair of doubleheader-shortened complete games last season, including a shutout. But he never pitched into the ninth inning over his first 142 career starts.
First baseman Rhys Hoskins tossed Nola the ball and saluted the righty after the final out. Nola (1-1) threw 109 pitches and did little more than give a small fist bump when he completed the milestone.

KAAL-TV
Created: April 18, 2021 06:30 PM
(ABC 6 News) - Authorities in Minnesota say they’re investigating an officer-involved shooting in the Minneapolis suburb of Burnsville.
The Burnsville Police Department sent out a statement saying it started after a white man, believed to be in his 20s, allegedly stole a car on Sunday afternoon. Burnsville Police say initial reports indicate that the suspect fired numerous shots at officers who returned fire. The incident took place near the Interstate 35W and County Road 13 exit ramps.  Police say the suspect was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center where he later died.
Police say, officers first encountered the suspect driving a vehicle with stolen plates which the suspect crashed. A short time later, police were notified the same male was involved in the carjacking of a female at gunpoint. Burnsville Police pursued the carjacked vehicle. The suspect allegedly fired shots at pursuing officers before crashing the vehicle and continuing to fire at officers. Multiple officers returned fire. All Burnsville Police Officers wear body cameras and camera data will be handled by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) who will lead the investigation.

Earth Day: a time for environmental justice

Card image cap

Thursday, April 22 marks the 51st Annual Earth Day or El día de la Tierra. This year, I am celebrating the renewed sense of urgency around environmental justice I see from community members, elected officials and organizations. Continued calls for justice and equity could not be more important as we face the greatest challenge of our generation, a rapidly warming planet and its effects on every aspect of our lives.
During this devastating pandemic and an exhausting year, I have found peace and comfort by being in touch with my gente – the amazing local and national Latinx leaders whom together we are building our collective power and elevating calls to action. Each day, I work with these leaders to plant seeds of hope in our community that will yield a better, more just society. A society that guarantees all people – regardless of skin color, ethnicity, language, country of origin, economic and political power – have clean air and water, easy access to nature, and a stable climate.

With the Johnson & Johnson vaccine paused, starting Tuesday, all-state run FEMA-funded sites will resume giving first doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
“It’s for anyone 16 and up with no appointment. So it is a very easy process to get that vaccine,” said Mike Jachles with the Florida Association of Public Information Officers.
A reminder, those that are 16 and 17 years olds are eligible to receive a Pfizer shot but must have a parent or guardian present.
Miami-Dade’s North Campus will be administering first doses of the Pfizer vaccine starting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

Kurt Angle Says He Was Originally Planned To Become The First WWE Undisputed Champion
Posted By: Ben Jordan Kerin on Apr 18, 2021
During an Ask Kurt Anything segment of The Kurt Angle Show, WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle revealed he was originally planned to be the first-ever WWE Undisputed Champion.
Vince McMahon however changed his mind and ended up going with Chris Jericho instead, to which Angle agreed.
"I was actually set to win the (Undisputed) title. But Vince McMahon came to me about a week before and said, “Hey, I’m not going to put the title on you. I’m going to put it on Jericho, because he’s red hot right now, he’s working his way up, and he needs this title more than you.” And I agreed with him, so I said “You’re absolutely right. I’d put it on Jericho too if I were you.” So it was considered for me to win the title, but I think Vince went with Jericho because he needed it more and Chris was a red hot babyface at the time. You know, giving him that title just legitimized him more. He deserved it."

Have you ever heard of a muon?
A muon is a very small particle similar to an electron. Electrons and protons are parts of the atoms that make up all matter.
Muons were discovered during an experiment in 1936. Until now, most physicists have only been able to study muons for an extremely short period of time: two microseconds. There are one million microseconds in one second.
