Teen charged after homemade bomb explodes in classroom

The 16-year-old lost parts of both thumbs in the March 8 explosion.
He is charged with manufacture/possession of a Molotov cocktail or similar device and possession of a weapon in a weapon-free school zone, Prosecutor Worth Stay said.
The teen had a preliminary hearing in Newaygo County Circuit Court on Wednesday. The charges came over a month since the explosion.
The juvenile petition was filed based on the investigation into the explosion as well as searches of the teen’s home in Newaygo County’s Brooks Township, Worth said.
