Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has set timelines for the removal of encroachments from lands, embankments, headworks and drainage systems belonging to the irrigation department.
Presiding over a meeting to devise a plan for the removal of encroachments on Saturday, the CM also constituted a committee, comprising the Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR), irrigation department secretary, forest department secretary and katchi abadis secretary, to identify illegally occupied government land and suggest measures to evacuate them.
The meeting was told that the infrastructure of the irrigation department included three barrages, 14 canals, 109 branch canals, 509 distributaries and 902 minors. The length of the department’s drainage network is 837 miles.
