They died in a blast that happened near the Army Headquarters. Six of the dead are soldiers. We go live. The death toll has gone up. Effective in the eyes of the taliban attack. Well, thats how theyll look at it. This attack took place in a civilian area, and there was a lot of innocent people going about their daily chores. Schoolchildren were proceeding to school. Thats when the suicide bomber struck. Apparently he was stopped at a checkpoint on that road. His intended target was perhaps somewhere else, because the ghq, which is the general headquarters and other sensitive institutions are not far from that location. Because the suicide bomber was stopped, he detonated his device. There were civilian casualties, some schoolchildren were injured in this as well. A deadly attack, happening less than 24 hours after another deadly attack. That was inside a military area. How much support is there for the taliban. They seem to be ramping up the attacks this year, but so often question when the attacks occur, innocent people die. Indeed, there are civilian casualties and anger as a result of that as well. You have to remember that the taliban, pakistan, reorganised themselves after the leader of the taliban pakistan was killed in a u. S. Drone strike several months ago. Theres a question about how many troops, a few hundred up to a maximum of a thousands, and which countries contribute to estonia. Its believed to have offered a few dozens force, poland, the chubb lick, belgium and spain could be contributing. Its thought the mission would ask four to six months, west African Peacekeeping forces, giving them an opportunity to reinforce their numbers. The real idea it to reenable the french. Their efforts have been focussed on securing the airport and the flow of humanitarian goods. It will allow them to do work outside the capital, leaving the airport in the care of the e. U. Force. You wonder who would be leading the e. U. Mission considering the french experience in africa, particularly in mali, and success there. Its understood the french will take part. Its believed that there will be a french element within the e. U. Peacekeeping force. The europe peens its difficult for the governments of European Countries to sell to the citizens of their country, the idea of taking part in a peacekeeping force, in a country many have not heard of. They have heard of other countries, it will be difficult for them to think why are we getting involved in this. The argument that is being put forward is what we are facing in the Central African republic, and seeing such as those in barnabys report brings it to life, the idea, the spectre of going back 20 years to the rwandan genocide, and we see the elements of an interethnic, interreligious conflict which is feared could result in massive widescale killings. Weve been looking at hundreds up to thousands killed. Theres a potential in the u. N. And for others on the ground, that this could become a far bigger and larger scale massacre if there is, in fact, not Serious International intervention. That that, if you like, is the moral argument that is weighing as e. U. Officials discuss the size of the force, who will take part and the time scale how quickly they can get the force on the ground. Hopefully we can get it soon.
