By some close that's certainly an important mission to humanity because we want to learn more about the Mon we want to get to the South Pole on expand what we know because of the South Pole that's where the water is and so that's a very important for future science drivers are being warned they could be paying hundreds of pounds more than necessary for they come insurance through some comparison sites an investigation by which found quirks in how the sites and insurance companies collect information JULIE ROSS is from the consumer group the question she was asked by comparisons like when you get a quite they're not always is the child if they would be with an individual insurer meaning that the insurer could be basing their crates we on slightly different information so in one scenario we tested a driver was quoted more than 200 pounds extra because they wrongly assumed that the driver had made a claim for damage to that vehicle one science money supermarket says it doesn't control how insurers interpret its information the B.B.C.'s announced a collaboration with the big social media platforms to try to tackle the spread of fake news Google Twitter and Facebook have been involved in drawing up a plan including improved online education. History after his win over Campbell plus debate around the amateur world championships and chat surrounding the Joshua Ruis fight recorded before their press conferences earlier this week as this is a pre recorded program please don't call or text. B.B.C. Sounds music radio pod casts find live boxing. Thanks for being with us again on 5 Live boxing with Costello on balance a couple of days after the man known as the genius Vassili launching coach they've appeared at the O 2 Arena in London and he is a ring genius but he had to work against Luther Campbell and to the let's let's also a few questions and let's pose a few questions detail views coming up we'll also look at the rest of the card touching on Huey fury and the Charlie Edwards controversy appearances also from the 2016 Olympians Joshua Bell at c joke or Dana and Savannah Marshall press conferences coming up this week for Anthony Joshua as he begins to try to reshape his career and we'll be looking at one of Britain's brightest prospects for goals with the World Amateur Championship starting later this week in Russia now many of you will have heard our instant reaction from ringside on Saturday night at the O 2 Arena after Vasily long chain co-head outpointed Britain's Campbell we were there Stephen I along with Carl Frampton on commentary on the immediate pod cast was posted on Sunday morning now a more considered view based on some of your responses and to reiterate stay for the benefit of those who didn't listen to Sunday's part cost I scored it by 9 rounds to 3. With of course 2 big rounds the 5th round and the knockdown in the 11th round as well but 9 rounds to 3 overall 2 of the judges scored it each Levon rounds to one the 3rd judge scored it 10 rounds to 2 How did you have it. For I had 84 and I had it 32 after 5 and I thought they were a couple of closer rounds I mean launching I won the fight let's get that absolutely right I thought there were a couple of a couple of close arounds I thought I was amazed that Luke came back after that 5th when he was hit and hurt at the end of the round when he was literally saved by the bell my His foot comes off the ground when he's hit where that shirt underneath the right elbow to live a shot and it's not a left hook it's a straight left hand something that not a lot southpaws actually do we should do because it's a great surprise sure lots of over the vice that's the classic Mexican not down as used also by guys like Ricky Hatton but not that many South Poles do if you think about it is a bit of a bit of an odd one I was thinking as the fight was of all when I thought he walked the 5th round it was a massive around 10 more seconds 5 might have been over and I thought in the 6th round Look box brilliant I thought we actually won came back to winning the 6th round came back to win a round when we fall I mean we thought we were back in our microphones at Read the next 2 or 3 minutes astonishing and thinking about that body attack that you said Steve is strangely surprisingly seldom seen in a Southport but of the 10 stoppages on launching codes record for them and that's an unbelievable percentage 4 of them have come from body shots so that's 40 percent of his officers have come from body shots but just moving on stay to this narrative about whether it should be praise for Luke Campbell or negative responses to launching CO or even looking at the genius again that is some people went to look at a genius and I think they were going to see what they wanted to see. No matter what unfolded on the night and that's been reflected I think in some of the e-mails that we've been sent over the past 48 hours or so but also in in some of the reports you said that you like to follow your copy immediately so you give that kind of your logo Harwell response that the adrenalin filled response and I was looking at the Sunday Times report written by a good friend of ours Ron Louis good pace which starts accented towards Campbell and saying is he destined to become one of those British boxers who never win a World Title and are labeled as the best never to have won a World Title longside Harrell Graham and he says for those of an older generation today Charlie he goes on wrong to describe it as one of the best performances by British boxer in recent years we've taken a bit of stick on line for overplaying in the way that Ron has done the performance of Luke Campbell as against the brilliance of as Obama Tanko because then you look at Shaun Ingles report in The Guardian on Monday and that's basically a hymn of praise all based around what he saw from launching Well Mike here's the thing. I've seen long a change I live now about 10 or 12 times in different tone months at different stages how much time parameter impro I've seen him live an awful lot of times I've seen him against guys that Nicholas ward as we did that fruit and not on Box Nation with a couple 100 of you know a couple of 1000 people watching when he what when it was a real 5055 people work this is it is going to be too much water is too dangerous too strong he's a man he's going to walk for him I saw him tie came apart sort of fire every watch to Gary Russell those doughs were brilliant performances those were stunning sacred performances those are the performances that allow him to walk in to that book of boxing miracles and stayed at let's get that absolutely right the other night the 1st 2 or 3 rounds they were glimpses of it in fact in the 4th round we finally saw him do that little sidestep walk around the back he does which he showed you up close and personal to Fitzroy lodge about 18 or so months ago which was Britain it took him to about a full frowned to do to dude to do that my was limit Chink a brilliantly haven't I imparts he was brilliant was he as brilliant as he's been from one to 12 rounds a one to 7 rounds when every stop people know he was not he was made to really work the size was a fact and Campbell's fearlessness absolute lack of complete and utter respect and Ken was ability to recover from what was a sickening end to Round 5 put limits on the pressure he was hurt the Machain coach in the 7th round by what was essentially a BOLO shot from the back for a left handed cook. In the stomach I felt of probably higher is probably wrong about the chest which is with the natural ject I think he was definitely hurt it wasn't her and he wasn't going to go down but he was hurt that I felt Luke Campbell was the performance was the wrong loses Absolutely Rob It was a standard staggering and a stunning performance and he my coworker and what we saw with love a Chink a work in his we saw him at the D. Again and we started to talk about this from Round 4 and 5 we know. If I have a play down low a chink I was brilliance we just said that now he's having to have a real fight this is a real fight we're not going to see a lot of sublime skills here so drunk that for me every pole drop that from your commentary drop that from your post for analysis because there wasn't a lot of sublime skills up there around for real full it was a brilliant thought out there around 3 or 4 but it was none of that there was no great There was nothing on believe it will off the rounds for real for that wasn't just straight forward car and guts performance cars could I don't thin it's Mike. That you were still brilliant but he wasn't as pretty as we see him and that was a look as he had a bad night because Luke Campbell had a fantastic night that takes me to a couple of a mouse they've been people listening to the commentary on Saturday night and also to the podcast that we posted on Sunday morning I've been particularly exercised about Carl Frampton demoting launching Co to number 2 behind Terrence Crawford on his pound for pound least at the moment also about you saying he wouldn't be in your all time top 10 but before we get there and get a response from you 2 emails the 1st of them Steve Tom from Highbury says he's just listened to the recap podcast from Sunday and was surprised the car friend Tim demoted launching Co in his power for power rankings down to number 2 do you think there's a chance people expect too much from launching Co He goes on to say Don on Saturday admittedly llama chain Co wasn't operating on an unfathomable level of genius but regardless Campbell was dispatched with ease can a fighter be powerful pound best just for being consistently great rather than consistently otherworldly I think he makes a really sound point there so what Keith West says listen to your probably call friends and I love listening to your weekly boxing Pods big fan but I must take umbrage with your after fight comments I think Carl's and your overall reaction to love Lomas performance was too emotional as it came immediately after the fight I thought you were all biased in favor of how Campbell performed Campbell has admitted that he's never been beaten like that before in a fight that says it all for me LHO was not only exceptionally skillful but he showed how hard he can work in order to win a fight going back to what you just said Steve Don't forget that Lohman is pushing himself by fighting at light weight and he gets criticized by people unbelievable to exclamation marks and I think there's a lot in both of those e-mails like you saw Tom from hiring Keith Webster many on a similar vein I think there's a lot to be said about you know we being too emotional after a fight where 6 feet away from the Cavs isn't like that that's sometimes guilty as charged. We're 6 feet away after 6 weeks of build up and in my case I know you're off swanning around in Milan or Frankfurt wherever it was you were last with no i don't know in charge of possible Mike or packing your packed lunch when you go on your travels but you know I was really involved openwork out your call they did their press conference which was a 5 hour day the why in which was a bizarre thing that Spitta feels I was were an egg is clear message to God looks off the. Books of him of a guess and his people out in Chelyabinsk so oh you know you get sucked in you were sucked in and then the fight happens and it's a terrific fight and you know picking up on some of the points there he doesn't have to be a genius all the time doesn't have to be the best in the best fighter in what we saw the other night was a treat was an unbelievable performance from launching he was fantastic he was great with action but Campbell was equally as impressive probably more impressive than we thought he would be but that's because one of the points made there and it's one of the points that keeps coming up so recurring point is the size and no and I did I did drop from my top 10 light White's light weight because you know My God said to you on the day when I saw you I said when I saw him coming the other day from behind microphone it was one of a good clear Mrs Fry whites he just looks tiny and I'm and I'm convinced and so are the people inside his camp he can go he can reverse back food a Whites super feather and said the I would die he thinks he can do forever and that would be Jim till now be gentle and I don't doubt that the kid might be a do forever and I'm just wondering then stay have we seen the best of vaseline on much ink and there are no backtracking on what we did when we were putting together a podcast a year 1415 months ago where we were talking about him changing the way people approach boxing in the way that Tiger Woods did to go if we were asking the question is he better than the likes of Woodson that time Varitek Kohli Messi right now though is he the best sportsman in the world so I'm not backtracking on that the question marks are as your pie. Around the lightweight division and what he can do and where he ranks as a 9 stone 9 pounder my everything every single thing he's done he's done a speed that's never been done before OK I know one guy has won titles joined in the 3rd when the tiger light welterweight back in the 70s understand it Meghan siècle I think is and I'm dangerous as hell really dense from a kickboxer we know that because one in 11 they will tighten his 1st but he managed to win 3 but by the time he had 12 if he's done he's been condensed OK the people you the people you just mention it a great tennis players the great cricketers the great golfers and if we're going to add to that the great boxes in history they've done over longer periods of time you know Muhammad Ali $960.00 win an Olympic gold medal in 1974 beating George Foreman in the Rumble in the jungle OK So savings done over a lot of longer period I have read this guy's done and he has change means he's done in a condensed time so even if he has 2 more fights and quits next year at 32 years of age OK it won't have to fight to 40 because will judge him differently would judge him on this condense this high concentrate career that he's had an increasing amount of fighters are having just sticking with llama chain coast even this point about him not being in your all time lightweight top 10 I'm going to list the top 10 in a moment I'm going to get your reasons 1st but I'm going to list the top 10 in a moment from our lifetime pretty much if you like the Global T.V. Era why is he not in your or time top 10 which stretches back beyond that period on out because in my opinion Mike I was never really convinced about him as a lightweight You know I thought he set to work hard as a lightweight still you know as it sounds all that we kind of find in a negative about someone who is so good but you could still find an exact or so what it would be like it would be like using but running a 400 meters during any incredible time not world record time still incredible but would be critical because it's not it's not $100.00 or $200.00 now different to that my you know he still like an Olympic medal you still want you might reach an Olympic final. But we'd still be critical it wouldn't be as good as what he previously done at these other 2 whites struck stroke distances so I don't think I can parachute long a chain go in with some of the best light weights and even some really good light weights from recent years some really are not talking about you know guys that are goalies does that you know top 10 or top 20 of all time across all whites I just don't think light white he's he's robust enough he's in and he's physically big enough to deal with some of the guys that I would have in front of him who are his my less than slave as I say this is in our lifetime the great names that have either stopped tat or pass through the light weight division in no particular order here in terms of time short ranking but Floyd Mayweather Oscar De La Hoya Julio se SA Chavez Manny Pacquiao toenail Whitaker reverse How do you ran. Juan Manuel Marquez Terrence Crawford That's 9 and I've got along much and Co in the top 10 I've been through the list of all the champions with all 4 governing bodies 3 of them in the early days 4 since 1980 in the inception of the W.B. And that's my top 9 and I think does fit in that talk A I would argue a peek Buchanan Buchanan to travel to San Juan that are stranded without one the big cannon that went all I want to go around with Duran I would argue and that's our for another one in there Mike because of the way fights and he doesn't leave you anything and he was busy and he was Big Jim what that you know one of our most successful and neglected weld champions have a look at people like a joking Jim Walsh who's not a guy who was on Sky No no watch him as a fighter so I'm not saying they're going to stand launching go on only say it all bash him out without Duran might because the rounds possibly can do that and I'll go down in a 15th round who knows might who knows but you know the I think what you said there what you show now. Is that you know what I said wasn't as outrageous as it maybe 1st as it may be 1st seemed as they were moving on to the World Amateur Championships we've seen on those on the cards Joshua brassy Djoko Dana Savannah Marshall and the next generation pushing through for Tokyo 2020 but before that a massive exercise in front of them the World Amateur Championships which starts on Saturday in you Catherine Burke in Russia 13 boxes have been selected these are the men's World Championships from England Wales and Scotland they represent the individual nations where as they represent Britain Britain going ahead to the Olympic Games have just been having a scour through recent results they've 9 medals Britain of one across the last 3 games that encompasses Beijing London and Rio in those particular cycles and just to match that up 9 medals them for Britain Cuba 118 Russia 12 Kazakstan 11 the USA only 3 so this will be quite a significant marker as to Britain's chances at Tokyo next year with all the confusion that's been surrounding the whole matter set up in the hole that impacts set out yet the world gems just before an Olympics are important they used to be important because they were a qualifier for lympics this isn't a qualifier but it's a guideline and anyone that tells you it's not a guideline is lying because if a kid here if any of those for team gets a medal at a white Wesson as only 8 whites with 7 of those for to get a medal above another British boxer he is going to have a really big claim on being sent to the European and the qualifier next year might Let's get that absolutely right this is the heart of Venice is the 6 times you box in 11 days vent and it just seems such a shame I know we've discussed the cons that we've broken stories about the Arriba audio CD bike but it seems criminal that one of our boxers could come back from this with a silver or gold or gold Let's get that right we can win gold here. And that will not guarantee him a place at the Olympics he will still at the GO come to London to travel to London and box next year in a qualifier that just seems hot I was at the G.B. Squads watching them training a couple of weeks ago and the general viewpoint there Steve was that we are witnessing the work of the best squad ever and that statement in the chiefs hope for a gold medal at the World Championships is through Pat McCormack at 69 kilograms the welterweight division he won gold at the Commonwealth Games in Australia last year more recently at the European games and he was beaten by the gold medalist self of Becky Stan who is now a decent pro at the last world championships in 2017 so plenty of pedigree to give himself hope ahead of these championships in Russia of being winning gold nonstop of they are one of 06 gold since the last will jump ship so well got be off the air will chime in which I thought I want levels to I won't bore Lawson's then and there I put myself very open there saw I've got a European goal behind is so I'm really going on the world and they value why one of the coaches here was just saying to me how what's really important is that for years a lot of the former Soviet republics Ukraine inspectors Stanek has expanded their lives as well as Cuba. Their boxes would stay in the amateur fold for 2 and sometimes 3 Olympic Games that's how they had vast experience that was so much more than you could cope with but you've got that limbic cycle behind you now yeah definitely one of the last Olympics when I was just turned 21 but I wasn't really as mature I wasn't as experienced but now of I've been through it and I've been through another cycle of boxed all of a box in every tournament is to box in there I think I've just got on the armatures box off and off and annoy the only in-or name is me last one more year before to improve who've got some big medals at the worlds in the Olympics how difficult was it for you to make the call to stay in the Olympic fold the amateur phone as we used to call it. Was not hard because I want to go pro and I was C.C. And all of the lads on the squad but they were a little bit older than me and then the club called me Darden Rob who every almost turns to see armatures saw I think. Made the right decision cause I think of a term product we had would have been in the clouds a bit in our Middle me decisions all the wrong decisions an amateur made only mistakes and how much is too when I turn pro already ready to get my head down and their stock and some belts having been to the Olympics what does it mean to get there next year then and Panton to make a mark that will. will set you up forever if it works in the way you want to to limit medals life change in the ne who flee got the gould border yeah be a bit when of the last one the seem one it's all a ball when i'm ready to go or these ones and stumm done on arkell men'll pam a comic stave he and his twin brother luke from berkeley a.b. Seen an oath east have been selected for of a squad share a pair of character's i was told that are might not get through to the end of the interview without some kind a prank being played on me but we did get there without any kind of mishap you know richie would all we who was their master mining some of the sparring on the day he holds them roni i'm reggie well sadly might you were prank could you interviewed luke i mean made it was at half i now that it's a commas a common thing might they've actually got down on the you did need to that was pat i was pat anything good on their com if they did me did you know he's going to me just do that well that isn't what it that's of some bold statements deaf and one of 2 people up there another be talking a rich use they were time talk about this squad be in a great squad because the beijing's quart wasn't a bad squat it was a good squad the london squad was a phenomenal squad and all going to be laws your hand an are still fault the scald that we sent to rio was a great school at than quite that medawar us but looking at these for teen boxes couple a scotsman those free scotsman to welshman that pairs down to i and we get the best of those i and they can qualify i next year anyone else take your eye there was singular you have fired back i mean you know you still think is good is going to is going to star click in pete i'm a growl the never great european championships but you knows got more medals in the last well champion chips and you and you a pm papa papa meadow a light i light big sammy lee the welsh when i mean mike that the 1st team can be paid to i eat and there are i would be saying next year wimmer our in tokyo rb saying if i'm put form want do is some sort of show would chap was 2 days before to boxy chap was we got main here and out a awhile misapplies or week i medals were be a lock in a drill nest the i may what about a 5 women i'll give you for our give you 3 names in a fire we were they also at the Qualifier next year Lauren Pryce picked up a gold if I'm not mistaken at the well at the Commonwealth Games last year Sandy Rheingold to come was didn't quite do it a European European games recently what about the dilemma the enigma this Caroline Dubois untouchable beats a ball she's won every single thing you know well what if we let her loose on the Olympics and we're talking now Steve to finish the poker this week about Anthony Joshua he's got 3 press conference this week 1st of all in Saudi Arabia where the fight the rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr is taking place on December the 7th and the 2nd of the press conferences on 1st day in New York and then here in London on Friday what are you expecting to hear from him stay because this is now about rebuilding the OR I do remember in the immediate post far reaction David Haye came up with this point about what Mike Tyson lost when he was beaten by boss that Douglas he lost that aura of getting into the ring with the opponents almost beaten before they got there that or has gone so he's got to rebuild that kind of there or around him that that special nature and the reputation around him and the period between now and December the 8th for him I think will help define how he's remembered forever more so get a little bit nasty in New York because what's going the 1st question from the floor is going to be from an American and he's going to quote i j talking about a lucky punch that got knocked out with a tick that led to him being stopped so that could be quite New York could be quite messy and then they'll regroup on the plane as they fly back home Firstly for the London conference on Friday and forget Saudi sets out is just going about shaking it sets out is what we call in the Arab world Micah Maginnis is a meeting OK squats in but we really formal really pleasant they should firstly be ugly in New York and he might have to go a bit get a bit aggressive there because Ruiz's got some love from the from the from the Ripple was there then we come it's going to be interesting to see if he's aggressive or. Is how he wants to go back over what happened and analyze it off he just wants to move on this is not about out there you know put in that you know the stop sign the timeout sign and so we're moving on to the little bit and when you get the one on one with him and I'll be hovering on the shoulder we'll be able to tell. What Joshua we get and I'm looking forward to it I don't often look for the person on his I mean that the water and fury we look forward to but I'm looking forward I want to I want to see him in your eyes see if you can look at in your life I want to get a guard and that's a real gauge for the future the Saudi stuff that will be handled by people is the expression is above our pay grade there will be there will be firms working on every single why that can go in Saudi It doesn't matter dismissed that's a P.R. Exercise Well we'll hear from Anthony Joshua in next week's podcast in the build up to that rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr in Saudi Arabia on December 7th and some more responses on a mouse They've on that matter Nicholas Ward who earlier called our Saudi podcast around the announcement of the fight disgraceful Well he's written in again Thank you Nicholas sub just listen to the most recent part he says where you responded to my email and I truly appreciated your willingness to engage with critics is proof of the courage you both have in your beliefs we may disagree but my views on the issue are more intelligent and nuanced for hearing your response and I hope that you can say the same for your views Kind Regards Nicholas warfare plane eclipse good boy nice weather when Avon's does not and does it thanks Nic I say e-mail address once again Costello on balance at B.B.C. Let's hear now from the wake up to Money team in a special poled looking at the business of getting fit Sean and Mikey talk to the boss of park run about how it makes money when its millions of members run for free plus a look at cycling and IGS dream competitions which sees runners dodging obstacles through farts a barbed wire this is a pretty recorded program please don't call or text these seaside lines wake up some money business is schools with sure fire incident and speaks. To How do you go making a bit from getting people fit the business is competing for our cash tragically kind of over the years it's grown quite massively to the point where we have like over a 100 people turned out OK Briggs from pounding the streets to peddling up the hell's a record number of us are getting active and where there's a trend there's a spend and money to be made this morning we're looking at the business behind participation in sport we're spending 4000000000 pounds a year on the most popular events of running cycling and sure I mean where does the money end up not as much in golf anymore these days making a record 2 thirds of people are regularly active according to Sport England look at the figures 7000000 people run 6000000 cycle 5000000 swim regularly in the U.K. Is probably some overlap as well there and Mickey that the value of all this as an industry is pretty interesting isn't it yes spending on running running increased by 50 percent between 201-2015 according to. The cycling market was worth almost a 1000000000 pounds in the U.K. Last year according to a Mintel report with 2 and a half 1000000 bikes sold and actually a golf is still popular Mackay I'm sure he is you go down there every week 650000 registered golf is still in the U.K. But that has been dropping. Yeah now as beautiful now let's bring in our guest for this morning we're going to figure out where all the money is going around all this we've got Nick Pearson who's the chief executive of park run which has 6000000 members who take part in 2000 weekly free 5 K. Runs off and your local park right around the country now right around the world morning to Nick good money you are a charity but still you need money coming in so we will delve into how that all works we've got Mike Morris who is the founding member and vice president of sports and races which organizes advents around the world where it's fair to say as well as running your face some pretty tough obstacles from barbed wire going through fire sounds Naish but 1000000 people have taken part in one of their events Mike good morning to you Well yes Mike so a little bit different other end of the spectrum to the 35 K. On a on a Saturday morning. How is the world theory right now or is it is it something that people actually want to do more and more of are they actually looking for a more simple weekend than a muddy obstacle course it's a great rule for us right now we're changing lives and. People are excited to try something different you know this is what we do that and interesting we've got Georgina Kirby who is not necessarily running the events but he's the marketing director at Sigma sports which sells bikes and cycling equipment also a backer of some of the country's biggest so I can give vents as many as well as many smaller local ones Georgina morning I guess without the likes of the businesses that are that like yourself that are supporting events we may not have so many events going on and it has it feel for you trying to compete in a market to try and get your brand to the front of some of these things we see people do you know it's actually we see it's a bit of a partnership if you find the right event it ends up being quite quite quite a good bit of teamwork between the event and the brand. And say yes you know that there's a degree in competition making sure you get into the right ones but we tend to find we were approached by brands that got the same sort of values as us by events of the same valleys so there are extremes on that for everybody who can get in touch this morning for people who are participating in these things the amount you can spend whether it's a charity like park run and able to run 5 K. For free but having all the infrastructure there for you to pick up your park or it's that half marathons the 10 K.'s the marathons the cycling events that have much more of a corporate backing that Marken Georgina will be a lot more familiar with as well so we're going to look into the money beyond all about this let's start with let's have a look at run a show way around 7000000 people say they run at least a couple of times a month according to research by sports sports England Rory Clayton has been to meet members of the social running group Manchester road runners who meet for a 5 K. 7 K. Or 10 K. Each week followed by a chat and a pint this is going to slow down as we meet every Wednesday at half past 6 we run a court decided not directions along the canal how to be back again in here for a pint. To compare it to intrusive quite cheap to get into that no no I don't think certainly since. It was just the perfect pair of trainers and a shirt that's all you need you know so it's basics and I get my trainers from just any old shop that's not a branded I don't go to the fancy sports shops to get my trainers I just go to the places where you can get them like. Trainers and as long as the work that's fine I've actually their shoes I've got on my feet right now I've been running in for 4 years now it's not ideal but it cost me $25.00 pounds in a 2050 and it could be due to fire. And I only know how much it takes them. What inspired you to fall in. This is based on me and 2 friends just met at the work with the. Came back afterwards and I decided just to do it each week I just kept doing that and gradually kind of it's quite massively to the point where he's battling over a 100 people to. Bring us and it's just just kind of keep doing it mainly just to get people I want to meet new people socialising people who've been with us and you to be. New to running as well just a good way of getting people to socialize so much service from this is it given you any plans to kind of go further and running in terms of you know it's one case this is kind of inspired you to take it a little bit further so I don't eat and if I have it running for I can't I'm just set enjoying this kind because it was green mile commute from me that I think I've got into for joining that space and getting instructions say just like minded people and so we go about explaining is wow and I just did my fast on finance and sky that sign up to know I have taken it I think you could spend the day on just a load of my name's Willie Robinson because I thought it was you know it was you know yes it is it wasn't so all these consequent socials really helping people to do until this is an important call to one for experienced this is this running back to the job and say just going to go in general I just don't think many kids do and this is one of those that is quite different to this club and it's a lot of stuff the public and the pubs do it again and I see what you saw in speaking to different Mississippi because given the whole thing you just you speak with people at the pot you speak to people the way it's yes it's really cold but you say the wrong one today it was a scream a saying it was a big game at the end and I had a lovely banner it's a 5 K. With my friend I'm based on so I say so you take it quite easy but I'm here fresh now feels I am guys much like it's good to see and they. So course it's a good thing to do at the end of the day and you know the knock on effect going down the pub afterwards so your eyebrows raised a little bit there Mickey. Signing up to our marquee defeats the object I mean good into the diet star What is how these things have changed as. People have got more used to doing things like that and the barriers aren't as high and 11 big reason for that is parkrun global running club as it is now it doesn't feel global when you pitch you know. Park on a Saturday morning and there's dozens hundreds of people turning up to go around a 5 K. Route every Saturday but it's right across the world now there's a junior 2 K. Event as well dogs I'm Burge easy often see them being pushed and dragged in get in the way around there as well but it's all part of the the relaxed atmosphere of the park relate started in 2004 in London since grown to cover 5 continents with events taking place in all sorts of places including Camp Bastion in Afghanistan one point so how did it get to that point how does it stay running when runners don't have to pay you know what we've got Nick Pearson with us who is the chief executive of parkrun Nick when you just hear those people there running and then going for a pint afterwards it is that sort of feeling that you get from running part run no pint at 9 o'clock on asylum on another a bit extreme but definitely we could identify with the social element and the. The kind of shared experience which I think is a really big part of why part one's successful so. You know making something as much if not more about meeting people and sharing your experiences than about the running or the physical activity and I think that in a. Really a big change in encouraging people in 2. Sports event sports events and physical activity about removing the the drive for measuring it just about competitive performance and making it more about war what everybody wants their their free time to be to be spent on so you joined a part run for 5 years ago. Found it got you involved so it's not quite like you were there on day one with that one run run in London and then it's got it's sort of gone from there even brought in to do a job so what was the job that you what was the main thing that you have to do apart from that you join Well I think you've identified the challenge you know we've is free is free is free for everybody forever and so we've got 300000 people taking part every single week. And we've got to ensure that those events safe and well organized and the results are processed on the registrations are processed and all of those support where it is you know thousands of. Run of support queries come in every week are handled appropriately and professionally so so my job really was to come in and ensure that there was a business structure around those 3 events that would protect its growth because the growth is is phenomenal it's 30 percent just about annualized growth so protect its growth to make sure that the future demands on the organization we're going to be covered by by that infrastructure so and so where does that money coming from that because if you're a charity people would often therefore associate fundraising with you know and people to donate to parkrun And those those kind of things but that isn't a major. When you put your promise that it will no I think that there's a number of areas where you come in the challenge that we've got is trying to raise revenue in a way that is respectful and sympathetic to those kind of almost founding principles that that natural almost unpolluted organic feel that you have in the park when you pitch up on a on a Saturday morning so so we do have we do have sponsors and those sponsors though are buying in to you know community influence and you know a little bit like Georgina said right at the beginning of the program you know coming in with a similar set of values and and the thoughts and wanting to support is growth and and get benefit from the positive influence that we've got with with that community but it's important that those events don't feel that they're you know corporate. You know owned by commercial sponsors so so it's a balance where. We're having to play off all the time. About you know popular with the spokes the park capers around the country we trip up with $300000.00 people you're probably not that popular other Paul is as I well we're there for an hour wake that. The time that we selected right at the beginning the foresight right at the beginning was to find a time in a park where the park is not really used very much for any of that we don't pay for parking. So it stands in the local authorities if there's any wear and tear. Yeah the way. The way this is worked out really is that. We're quite clear whenever we put. A new event proposal to a park that what we. Bringing is lots of uses to the park where we bring is lots of positive support of the park and what we bring to the land owner in the local authority is a free service that that around that local community to free exercise and physical activity every single way without any charges to them we found almost exclusively the landowners local authorities parks found it to be a really positive influence on the public space who get on to the influences of those who are helping you put on these events financially as well exactly that goes right across the spectrum whether your charity or business you got Georgina care big as Nic mentioned there is but this is well this morning from Sigma sports marketing director there it's a cycling retailer they sponsor the U.C.I. World championships in cycling in Yorkshire this year next month it's an elite cycling Rice you might not signed up for that one but this ride London which is a Cycling Festival in the capital as well got the London Marathon and these are all big opportunities for businesses to get their name out there associate themselves and George George you know when you sort of pick and choose what your associates and yourself with what what do you look for as a as a business a couple of things really I mean. Just just as Nick was saying there we were one of the big games for us is to increase passion and love for cycling and you know that's that's going to be a benefit to us and also to the people who participate in the event say we do look we do look for events where we have community participation and we we pick very carefully selected events for example there is a really lovely cycling series that goes around Europe and gives us lots to talk about as a brand and we find our consumers are really interested in that they follow that their spots take part in that say and we team up with that and then on the this. We're also looking for events which are consumers and the consumer is that we would like to bring in sync segments for. A following so that's the elite events like the championships and Tour of Britain women's tour say those are events that again you know they they're got a deep heritage and passion there that for cycling they're iconic events and even though we're a medium sized business there are ways that businesses like ours can can partner with them work with those events and for the benefit of both the event and for businesses like us to ever surprise you how much people are actually willing to spend because could obviously there's a a business case some reason that you're doing all of this is well it boosting So I think the knock on effect of that will be good for you Dave been in touch so many recently did the Pru Ride London 150 pound of red to reach right in rail tickets 14 pound car parking 150 pound hotel 30 pound food 10 pounds for gels and energy bars he said we did raise $11000.00 pounds as an entry considering it was a weekend without a family be easy to donate the money spent on get in there doing it and going for a 100 mile bike ride at home and that sort of level of spend some competitors it is do you ever see a risk that it gets too much to clean cycling where we have people saying they're spending thousands on bikes Yes I mean people are pretty passionate about the sport and once you get into the sport you it's quite easy for it to become quite all encompassing in terms of you know what you're following and what's going on on line and also what you're spending your money on say you know if it is something that that cat can spiral and you can end up spending quite a lot in the area but you know we find that our it is a passion and it's a positive thing it's getting people out and about and and doing something that that's interesting and I think you know you you know a questionnaire about whether it's better to go and do the events and spend the money. A or to do the right a little bit of both in the balance and we find that a lot of our consumers they follow a lot of events and then they'll pick one or 2 you get set to take part in and and they lend out they will invest in quite quite a few bits and bobs for that event but I enjoy doing that it's just as well as what people like you like to spend their money on when they're passionate about about cycling triathlon and sport in general judging the culture on the table I mean what do you get out of the sponsorship. So we get this there isn't a number of ways that we benefit so for the U.C.I. Row boat championships for example well there's the immediate benefit is commercial in that way retailing at the event so they'll be sales and and margin from that but that that for us that that is the least important element to the bigger thing is the brand association because you know we we with we are it we're a premium cycling retailer and and we want to partner with brands that reinforce that for our consumers so helps to to grow our brand awareness within cycling and also helps to reinforce our position as as you know as a business that it's got genuine heritage and it's it's really a destination for people to come and find out about cycling and that that brings on to the other benefit which is around community and big focus of Oz the past few years has been on community engagement and it's not because do you get people buy more more products from you then you've got them engaged then once you have them all of a more likely to buy the next product from you I think say yes I'll certainly come to us for product information I mean we we've got up on our site where we talk a lot about what's going on in the cycling Weld's we focus a lot on social media and on getting people involved to run where I we have all sorts of community based activities that do help to to grow the business obviously but also how to to keep to keep it fun and interesting for the people that work for us to say that the 2 things kind of work hand in hand but yet the ultimate gain is to grow the business but to do that in the right right way let's bring in Mike Morris who's in Boston in the United States I'm assuming not in the in the U.K. More in Chibok more likely. Oh are you very well thank you right Mikey you. Pilots run your family member vice president of spots and rice you said this is in Germans events obstacle courses. Can you explain to us what the what the level of interest in that he's like in the U.K. At the minute because he's the right of the other end of the scale to just going out for a run or a bike ride. Yeah I mean the U.K. Has a great market force to back up and say we are global brand we're probably the biggest insurance brand in the world. Over 40 countries U.K. Strong market for us we have 70 minutes this year in the U.K. We'll have quotes of $40000.00 racers and we actually have our 1st 1st stadium event coming up in Twickenham Stadium in November as are pretty excited about that but it's been a great market we've seen some great growth 20172800 nearly 40 percent your growth . So the U.S.T.R. Space is really resonating with people big numbers I can you just you must have done one of these yourself needs gives a very quick rundown about what one of these courses is actually like and she has very question ANY the 1st thing is that worse sport race is a sport also of course racing it's not a Mud Run if you will in any event because when I say sport I mean there's rules there's officiating there's lots of prize money where the $1000000.00 prize purse for last year for will chip series a $1000000.00 That's huge. Time Events and so we do that and we put people out in the woods on singletrack that will track mountains swamps rivers and then we have obstacle this can be our work crawls climbing over wall rope climbs jumping over fire throwing spears you name it they're all in all it welcome piles up to a pretty awesome event 3 awesome race I can see Mickey just about to sign up yeah I mean the age does sound a bit extreme presumably there's going to be a high level of fitness do you think that's going to put people. You know great question that's something I think one of the biggest challenges is is that the initial shock of like while this story straight but what we find is that the soldiers report it's huge so it vents like court run you know really are mad because of the sort so yes we have the elite race where you know we have a limp dick Lilly Olympic athletes that professional draft Leith you name it come in they're competing for. $20000.00 a $100000.00 a race the same time we have our weekend warrior is there with kind of the people and they just lost 30 pounds or they're overcoming addiction or they just want to have some fun and rush their team and they get out there and they laugh while they were going versus the through the obstacles and then they have that point in the race that well it's not a bug in the fossil but the same idea that sort of for a while I think that somehow we can merge all of these events and get that far of a wake up to money on your annual event Kuwait Nic Nic pass and stay with us is the chief executive of pocket make when when you hear that that you have to your Theda F.-L. Of these businesses around the world getting people involved do you sometimes do you feel like you could get more out of those businesses that are in this industry working with you ab given that you seem to be doing so much for them no I don't think so I think. I think we all share the same view that life probably about finding your passion and then once you find your passion and if you've found a passion is fitness or running or enjoins events or whatever then as long as you've got a menu of choices that go from part one that's free to you know whatever the cost of the highest priced of venues then then the market's doing its job for you and I think that's that's what's really evolved in this sector over the last 10 or 20 years you know when I came into the sector 25 years ago there was a relatively small amount of relatively expensive marathons or half marathon. And those are your only options and I think that you know it's a it's a it's a bigger and it's a growing market but there is a never ending option of choices for people that take part depending upon their budget depending upon their interest and you know we're just really proud I think that we're you know I a starting point in a marketplace where we're taking people that are you know new to physical activity who are previously inactive and encouraging them to take much more positive steps about their health and well being given the scale and the money we've had involved in Georgina and Mike one and are you knowing that people are willing to put money this kind of stuff are you going to look to do more fundraising from participants for example fundraising for participants is a. Part of our. Revenue stream but not as a point of entry not as in. Not as a charge to participate so if. If you or. If you're you know economically challenged or or not of the mindset paid to participate in a band apart one will always be free and a moron ever look to change that that will never be part of our operating plan now well Nick Drayson thank you very much for joining us this morning interesting stuff the chief executive of Park Road thanks as well to Georgina care he's the marketing director sick.
