Destatte it is something that probably Australia could have had a psychological edge because knowing the kind of well build up that the Australian team has had and this was pretty much the force test that they were playing off the ball tampering sky know that happened in South Africa so there was a lot of pressure but I guess it's time that everybody looks beyond what's happened to Australia and domes over there mentally dady or hide behind those excuses and accept that you know they have been beaten and they've been beaten by a better team and I strongly believe that the results would not have been any different if there was a Smith or a one on the D. Maybe they would have got better scores but I'm sure the nimble O's are confident enough and competed enough to get there because as well Peter that the ball tampering incident was was a sports story that was covered across the globe what did people in the states make of it did they get much coverage. It was viewed more as a kind of a peculiarity I guess everything about cricket is viewed as peculiarity in the US but just from the the the furor that was generated in this instance because it wasn't as an incident of cheating say in the sense of or corruption in the sense of match fixing where you're intentionally trying to lose here these guys were flouting the rules to try and gain an edge to win and I guess in a lot of us sports. If you're trying to win gone to whatever extremes if you've got stick them on your hands in football or for if you know you've got pine tar and an incidence in baseball where there is kind of people look the other way and certain things that people know they go on but it's kind of you know excepted that in life you're absolutely buoyant in front of the cameras some things like that may be going on and as long as you're trying to win a that's that's part of the game and from that standpoint the fact that there was so much outrage about a these guys are trying to win the statute at the time for the palate he was a one match ban and that happened in the recent past with fact to pussy other players it happen shortly afterwards Sri Lanka. Dinesh Chandimal and I think it was just kind of alarming from the standpoint of a if it's just a what one match ban and wiser body up in arms about this and what you know why did Cricket Australia suspend them for a year what's what's so great about it was it was more of the honor or the dishonor about the offense in the Australian culture that I think people were fascinated by from the U.S. Standpoint Jonathan we've had this interview that Bancroft did recently if David wanted does come back and we looks like he is coming back and let's be honest about this how is he going to be received by the fans. He was booed as well so again it's difficult to say and I would imagine like most things you know really polarized there's going to be some funds that whatever they do they seem to be accepted in all this because you know that the slower on the baggy green or all of that they're going to be there not to be forgiven has it had an impact on the popularity of cricket you talk about players not coming through is that a danger for Australia. I don't think so I think I think. Still I think they are certainly. Running cricket but I think I think the general Aussie Ponta still goes to the guy I went to the 1st actually. A couple weeks ago and I was pretty much full So listen he wasn't well I've not seen a negative impact on that point I found it fascinating I was in Florida for the Caribbean Premier League this past summer and when the Barbados tried and Steve Smith played for Kate they came through and they played the Jamaica towers in August in Florida I was I was so fascinated by the response they were fans there who were cheering so loudly for Stephen Smith and there was a family who is originally from Sydney who were in the stands and I went up and talked to them and there was a an 8 year old and a 6 year old son and daughter and I asked them Who are your 2 favorite players and they shouted Steve Smith in the other and she had a David Warner and I don't think many a shot Warner was good but it was I couldn't believe that the fact that they they did not the fan support didn't seem to be winning and the fans didn't seem to have the same reaction is a lot of the media reaction in terms of this shame that they still love these guys and I don't think if they come back I don't think there's going to be booing or there's going to be negative reaction I thought I honestly think based on the evidence that I've seen and it was similar in Canada the global T 20 Canada or the French actually that debuted in August or the fans that were there overwhelmingly supported both Smith and WARNER So based on that evidence and some other bits I don't think there's going to be a negative reaction if and when they do come back to play for Australia games it's going to be. Gone just not jumping to please or any because obviously they're both I.P.L. Players as well. They had a spat However you know at the end of the day with all the players in the performances that matter so you know I strongly believe that even if they come back to the team I don't think the fans would sort of there probably be more happy to see Australia doing a little better than would be out of me would they be welcome back in the I.P.L. Indian cricket broadcaster who's also involved initiatives supporting women in sport I mean I'm going to have a little bit of a moan here because we're going to talk about how we get more people watching Test cricket I live in Kolkata a lot and I go to Eden Gardens a lot and I go to a lot of Indian cricket grounds and I think there's obviously a problem with people watching Test cricket in India and I think one of the reasons is sometimes the experience of watching a Test match in India isn't great you know when I go I can take in my own food arc on even take in my own water you know forget about having a bear and the other stuff that the Barmy Army sometimes want to do when they're travelling abroad in India you've got to improve that experience I think to get people coming back and I know they're making an effort taking it to smaller venues but do you think it's time that some of those things changed in India. But I think it's the issue off the tendons part of Test cricket is not an issue of just putting into India or the experience it's more about like we saw the test between use 11 Pakistan what a test it was but there was not a single person that was there the ground in U.A.E. That we recently saw it went down to the wire but nobody to cheer the team they were about 2 or 3 people so it's something that's an issue that's big in world cricket and that's what you see I.C.C. Also investing a lot in doing there is to understand what are the things that could be done I understand that the experience might not be the same in every country of there are different issues there are different sort of security concerns and that's exactly one of the reason as well that if you see in terms of attending I guess magistrate out to England to a South Africa or 2 or U.A.E. To India to be different I don't think that's the batter's and that but it's more a whole overall global issue that I.C.C. Is facing of a governing body that they are aware that the appetite for a Test cricket due to the advancement of 20 leagues or to 10 leagues of the patience levels or the attendance or the patient levels of people to sort of a bend a game it's pretty much now 3 hours of horrors and they're so used to it and you know I was reading a bit of research reason be it said that cricket in India has an ageing sports it's only 40 to 40 plus other people who are consuming a lot of Test cricket which means that the younger generation is not such digging up to test match cricket because of it could be the I.P.L. It would be the teeth and leagues that are coming forth and it's also due to a lot of people taking up football they have been following the P.L.O. Clubs they've been following different ones that are happening so that's also to be kept in mind that you know cricket in India is more of ageing thought now so as that generation grows I don't know how many people who take to Test cricket in terms of being present at the ground but definitely if it's a marquee Sienese you'll definitely see crowds coming in on the weekends but it's not. More of the India issue I think it's more of an issue that of the I.C.C. And it's more of a global phenomenon that will test cricket will live in a long hard probably 10 years down the line it's a question that what is the I.C.C. You make a good point about football I'm fed up of seeing Manchester United's of them called to the no Leeds United ones unfortunately Jonathan one of the attendances been like for the India Australia series good bad. I think they've been as good as Cricket Australia would it would have hoped for and I went to the. The as a 20 game at the Gabba and that was fairly well supported but again I think that's indicative of where we are at the moment the. Cricket in a short spell we want to start we want to finish it all in in in a few hours rather than you know the sort of the more nuanced. Longer form of the game which is which is really sad I mean you know I think about when. The former T.V. . In the eighty's in England source in England absolutely hammered by. West Indies but you know I still. It's still a lot of critique still do now so I think it's just easy to go out Test cricket or in and we only want the the cricket stuff and I'm just thinking is there something else that. The R.C.C. Store or the like can do to make it to my Test cricket more appealing than what might might be just where we are as a society now we want we want it we want it quick you want to go over with something get on to the next thing Peter if we if we took Test cricket to the US. Wouldn't want anybody to end up to watch it would we see Americans flooding in for 5 days of Test cricket Well I don't know about phoning in but I think there would actually be some interest to be perfectly honest all you say so in this being taught by having India Pakistan Test series in the US well use myself as an example I fell in love with cricket through Test cricket 1st and foremost my 1st experiences watching cricket were through the 2005 Ashes series and when you see the superstar matchups that took place in that series when you had friends off on one side you had Shane Warne and Gilchrist on the other side and you had Kevin Pietersen we have in his breakout maiden Test series and you see those kind of charismatic figures you can only be drawn to this for and the argument that I think is sometimes overblown is the duration argument that Test cricket is too long and people don't have time for it if you look at a sport like golf in the US I've never heard anybody make an argument that nobody has time to go to watch the Masters because it takes place over but the Masters is once a year isn't well but it's a 4 day event and if you're going to the Masters you're there for 1011 hours a day over the course of follow on particular golfers from you know the 1st to the 18th tee but they make it a social socially fun environment people who go to a golf tour and they bring a cooler of beer they hang out they hang out with their friends they drink they're encouraged to have fun and in some cricket venue's the social aspect I don't think it's played up enough that there's almost. An intense peer fan pressure of you have to watch every single ball it can take your eye off cricket it's well actually not like you go to cricket and you can you can kind of relax you can have a chat with your friends you can have some beers you can make it a fun environment you don't have to literally watch every single ball play because you're going to get burned out too and then if you play up the social aspects. As you look at the Indian players wherever they go or you look at a Big Bash League now you know I'm just giving a contrast to this so we don't have any I mean employers who participate in other T 20 leagues and that I see as a huge factor where the number of ratings if you compare between a big bash of the I.P.L.
