Yes we can hear you and very far away apologies for that I just going to get an update as to how long it's going to be before we can expect the results to come back at the canteen Great Yarmouth town hall and I understand that now of the ballot boxes are tipped out on to the tables they're being counted and so we are expecting the results to come back within maybe the next 10 or 15 minutes of site it's widely expected that Brandon there is will retain his seat in Great Yarmouth which he's held since 2010 the Labor candidate Mike Smith Clare has pretty much it meant to do conceded defeat to me and cited a variety of different reasons as to why Labor has come into that position not only here but also nationally as well hasn't polled as well as they had hoped but of course you know it's all in the final declarations that are yet to be made and we're just a few minutes away from that now it turns out that the well that the turnout was down 60 just save a 60 percent of the eligible voters had turned out to cost their ballot today it turns out that actually there had been an increase in the number of people who had registered device so. The numbers look like they might have been down to start with the physical number of ballot papers is slightly up because there's been a greater number of people who have registered device so it makes you wonder as to what's been going on in the campaigning as to the passions as the people registering to vote even up in the last few days before the deadline cut off. And 3 thank you very much and leads to something you would think wasn't about maybe a big voter registration but perhaps not not turning out to the younger faces Yeah I mean of no evidence for that other than sort of anecdotal evidence. And says but that could be could be an issue but. I wouldn't go too far on that until we've actually got some polling data ready. Yes there were and there will be all sorts of analysis and polling data done over the coming weeks and months and years on this so we are expecting the declaration in Northmore foot very shortly indeed So we will take you over there as soon as that starts to come in and we think the returning officer is poised at the microphone ready to give it to us our portable Carter is is there and ready to pass it across and we can see the a ray of colorful characters I believe is the phrase assembling it to the prime minister's constituency Lord Bucket Head of course as a rival this year the man who originally had the copyright on the name Your Bucket Head has taken it back so the man who got famous look back ed in the last elections now as we count been face so there's there's a bit of a refuse off between the 2 of them as those lower back ahead verses count bin face I don't think we have any of those we have to have a Monster Raving Loony kind that. We can now cross over to North Norfolk where there are no loonies but there is Bob Carter. The returning officer is just adjusting the microphone for a moment I thought. Perfect timing. Of the declaration of results for the election of a Member of Parliament for the North Norfolk constituency the election held on the 12th of December 29th thing I state that big the acting returning officer at the above election do hereby give notice that the number of recorded for each candidate at the election is as follows. They get Duncan Chiles the Conservative Party candidate 29700 2 thank you for let them explain the party 3895. Harry Sebastien breaks it Party 1739. Boards liberal Democrats 15397. Thank you for the number 50. The number of protected ballot papers was as follows once or official Mark 0 voting for Cap more candidates than was entitled to $25.00 writing a mark by which data could be identified one unmarked or wholly void for uncertainty one so just take a shot who wanted a repeat of that Duncan Baker getting 29792 votes for the Conservative Party. A massive majority over Karen Roe ward for the Liberal Democrats 15397 is a huge turnaround here from a nipple a Democrat seat a cheat that been with the liberal. Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you. Thank. You to all written down. Well thank you everybody it looks like it's an historic night clearly the country is spoken with a very clear mandate and after 18 years. The Conservative Party. In North Norfolk. Thank you I never went into politics for any other reason than to help represent the area of north Norfolk that I was born grew up and raised in and it's not passion to help others to make things better and give back which is why I stood to be your m.p. And that is exactly what we are going to start doing from now on I am truly humbled by this result the people of North Moore that had voted and I'm going to do everything I can to pay that day back in them this journey didn't start 6 weeks ago but years ago through the numerous roles I've had in the community but our conservative campaign to return an m.p. Here in this region started earlier in the year when I was selected we you lot have worked tirelessly for this we've got an unbelievable campaign and the volunteers here all of you down there I cannot tell you what this means we are a team we work as a team and we've now won as a team. Thank the association all of you officers you know who you are every single day you've been incredible the Stassi team that picked me up pushed me on set the tone I can't thank you guys enough to all the other candidates thank you for all your hard honest fighting well done I think it's it's been a real dedicated campaign. To the hardworking count staff throughout the constituency thank you in particular our excellent Returning Officer Steve black church you can go get some sleep. And also might pay a tribute to so Norman. Dedicated honest hard working that's what we hear every single day on the doorsteps hugely respected there are big boots to fill and asked pass without doubtlessly cross again in the future but now to every other person that voted for me in this constituency thank you so much our 1st priority is to restore faith in our democracy deliver Grex it and leave the e.u. By the end of January then we will put North Norfolk. Invest and develop our health service work on getting better ambulance response times this area protect our environment support local businesses grow our economy get more jobs here across the region this is where the hard work starts and finally to my wife Nina and my children they haven't seen a lot of me recently I'm a family man I'm proud of that that's what makes North north a close Paschal my wife my rock she backed me to everything I've ever done this is the you thanks. They. Probably the most historic result from this tonight has the conservatives. Hugely over a liberal Democrat majority here. He was saying that earlier on in the night with Jenny the oversea you know the exit poll suggesting it could be much closer there may be the Lib Dems that hang on is there a lot of I mean I know you haven't spoken yet you think a lot of shock from the Liberal Democrats on the ground there from what you've seen . No because I have heard the from from the State of them make them on that but they said they didn't know their backs of information come from because their own in. Their own research during today or current the word this is getting very late there own research during today had showed that the secret was going away from them they knew by the trying they got here. They were pretty much done for to be honest and it does feel like the end of an era here I mean I've lived in this part and well my life and all that time it's had a liberal Democrat m.p. It seems like a massive change. Of Carter nor fortune for the North Wolf of result thank you very much Dee Bob Ledwidge is with me here in the studio. As our other Bob there mention that's probably the story of the night I certainly think it is I mean that's a huge turnaround to go from or a liberal Democrat seat which had been safe and not so safe last time but nevertheless a decent but your city to get 29790 votes for the conservative candidate absolutely smashing for the Democrats 15397 is one heck of a turnaround and the only. Consolation I can give liberal Democrat supporters and voters tonight is that but I have just gained a seat for the Conservatives at Richmond Park in south west London was Goldsmith the conservative lost and there was a substantial swing to the Liberal Democrats but I said earlier in the night I think London will be a bit different to the rest of the country in this election we are not just getting a gym call but he's out in his Linton Nicholas Charles Elsworth. Known as Nick the incredible flying brick the official. The official Monster Raving Loony Party 236. James Clark conservative and Unionist Party 5483. Thank you. Jeremy Bernard Corbin Labor Party 34603. Yellow safe I am David Rex at party 742. Caroline Russell Green Party 4326. Nicholas Richard Wakeling known as Nick Wakeling liberal Democrats 8415. The total number of ballots rejected is as follows once. The official Mark 0 voting for more candidates than of those frees the returning officer is the time just giving the full details about their will we are going to try and stay with this and bring you Jeremy Coleman's comments on what's looking like being a very bad night for the Labor Party we will see what he has to say in a moment when he steps up to the mark phono slightly fewer votes in the last the last time he achieved extraordinary feat of getting over 40000 votes in his thing to which are. Single candidate hardly ever gets in a general election a mere 34000 votes for Jeremy Corbyn this time around which is a still a very good result from a majority of about 26000 for him there over the Liberal Democrat candidates. Still more to just shaking the of can and he's coming up to the microphone now. Thank you. Could I start by saying a huge thank you to the returning officer and all the staff in the police that have ensured a fair and democratic election is taking place today and also to congratulate and thank my fellow candidates for their participation in this election and also a very heartfelt thanks to the people of us into north for electing me again for the tent time to represent is into north in Parliament I'm very very proud to do so and I've learned so much from the people of is going to Nourse and it's my pride and my pleasure to continue to be their representative in Parliament. Of the I also want to saying Bruce Hayse our agent to this election and all of the wonderful friends comrades and supporters in asing to North Labor Party for the huge effort they put in in this election campaign and they put in all the time to carry a message of hope and justice all over our constituency and through me I hope to a wider world. The pressure on those surrounding politicians is often very very high indeed the media intrusion on people's lives is very high indeed and the attacks that take place against family and loved ones of politicians continue and their disgraceful and frankly they are disgusting I want to take this opportunity to thank my family my close friends and those that have been close by and been very supportive during this and every other election campaign or to thank my 3 sons for the huge support they give me and thank my wife Lara Alvarez for all that she puts up with because of the way in which the media behaved towards me towards her and indeed towards my party during this election campaign and. This. This is obviously a very disappointing night for the Labor Party with the result that we've got but I want to say this in the election campaign. We put forward a manifesto of hope a manifesto of unity and a manifesto that would help to right the wrongs in the injustices and inequalities that exist in this country for those who need housing those who need an effective health service that will deliver for them and those children that need a school that is properly funded and they're not being taught in oversized classes and a manifesto that gave hope in dealing with the environmental crisis the world faces by investing for the future through green industrial revolution. All of those policies were extremely popular during the election campaign and remain policies that have huge popular support all across this country however breaks it has so polarized and divided devaluate as in this country it is overridden so much of a normal political debate and I recognize that has contributed to the results that the Labor Party has received this evening all across this country the issues of social justice and the issues of needs of people will not go away just because Bracks it is dealt with in the way in which Boris Johnson presumably plans to deal with it in the moment all those issues will come back center stage in the debate and the fundamental Labor message about justice and equality within our society is going to be one that is there for all time because it's the very core of what my party believes in and what I will always advocate on behalf of my constituency and on behalf of my party I want to also make it clear that I will not lead the party in any future general election campaign I will discuss with our party. To ensure there is a process now of reflection on this result and on the policies that the party will take going forward and I will lead the party during that period to ensure that discussion takes place and we move on into the future. Because I'm very proud of the trust that our half 1000000 members put in me to lead this party and I'm very proud of the way that we fought this election campaign we did not descend into the gutter we did not undertake personal abuse we undertook the task of getting a message of hope and justice to every part of this country and I'm very grateful to the Labor Party listening to north of being very tolerant of the fact that I didn't spend as much time in this election campaigning is in turn as obviously I would want to do because I've been travelling around the whole country to ensure that Labor's message is put there but I want to say this. I will remain the m.p. For easing to north and I'm proud to represent the people of his into North and I'm proud in Parliament and outside that we will forever continue the cause for socialism for social justice and for a society based on the needs of all rather than the greed of a few that is what makes our party what it is and I'm very proud of the achievements of our party in the development of its manifesto and its ideas and I tell you what those ideas and those principles are eternal and they will be there for all time I thank the people of his into north once again putting their faith and trust in May I will work as I always have to says to represent and defend the people of my constituency because they're very special and I owe them so much and they have all taught me so much thank you very much. Jeremy Corbyn there making his acceptance speech in Islam to north which the former head of the political unit ritual of Millbank has had to leave his time by the sea is over on the election program on Big 3 Norfolk Let's go over now to Great Yarmouth and our ports and return as a result coming in there and she looks to be the chief executive of great going with Barack out all the returning officer is now calling the candidates to get entries heading towards the stage and we expect in the next few minutes see the rocks to be we'll announce the results of this election she's calling the agents and the candidates as I say. There's 2 horses really at the front of this race Brandon Lewis the m.p. Since 2010 and also Mike Smith Claire for labor and she also has now taken to the microphone this is actually the oxygen. Could I please have the candidates on the stage with me. And so Brandon there were from the conservatives James Joyce from the Liberal Democrats Mark Smith Claire shaking hands with drowned in there and we've also got characters well the Member for power from the Green Party we've got Margaret McMahon Morris who is an independent and. We've got the veterans and Peoples Party as well standing up there as well 7 kind of it's the largest number of candidates that have stood in Great Yarmouth for a long time I understand. The election of the Member of Parliament for the Great Yarmouth constituency held on Thursday 12th of December 29th teen declaration of result of pile. Into sign being the acting returning officer for the Great Yarmouth constituency hereby give notice that the total number of votes given for each candidate at the election is as follows Harding David Dave Harding veterans and Peoples Party 631. Joyce James Michael liberal Democrats 1661 kill it. Memory Green Party Wong 064 Luis Brandon Kenneth the Conservative Party candidate 28593 Morris migrates notice Margaret Morris Independent 5 for my is Adrian Paul independent 429. Smith Clare Michael known as Mike Smith. Labor uncooperative party 1930. Total total valid votes cast 43462 the number of ballot papers rejected and not counted by me at this election was as follows voting from all kinds of there are vacancies. Of the sprite comes through. Clear Christie of summer signing was amended. Majority his last 2 was a 233 patients. The. Most significantly as well I mean I mean what we were expecting Up front of. Us is Judy elected as the Member of Parliament for the Great Yarmouth constituency. Are tired was the shaking of the hand I'm not going to invite each of the candidates in 10 to speak starting with Margaret Mack Mohan Maurice. And Asian Paul Meyers. Of the bridge stood by the bricks at party I was asked to stand and give those who would put their faith in that party to give a vote I took it up it or start to stand as independent but I did side work for a choice I want to thank my team for all the work they did nor for the hard work all those who voted for me but it sounds as if the Returning Officer Very Great Yarmouth is going to let all of the candidates speak so we will bring you branded Louis's acceptance speech when we have it we are going to recall that and well we will play it too soon as we have it but I still have Professor Leigh Marceau head of the school of politics from the University East Anglian arch with me here in the studio if you just you know I'm Paul Hayes This is b.b.c. Radio Norfolk it's 331 and a few things have happened since we last spoke Les of the Yarmouth result they're again following the national party I suppose the conservatives are a very good chunk of them in increasing the majority for brand Louis there yes I think so good victory for the Conservative Party and probably per Brendan personally as well I think you know he's. Got a good reputation really and there's a constituency m.p. We talked about in the case of sorts Norman and the former m.p. For North Norfolk M.P.'s becoming a stop stop pushing I mean they don't all do it some become proper They consider it is but certainly peace they build a following of the other they are seen as being good constituency m.p. Yes Yes And I think he probably does fit that fit that bill so yeah not a surprise to see him win but. I would be very encouraged to see such a large. Majority I suspect we'll hear his acceptance speech shortly but an acceptance speech we did hear was Jimmy Corbin's in there is into North and he confirmed there we heard him say live on a hill b.b.c. Radio Norfolk that he will not lead the Labor party into another general election I guess you probably the specter that given what's happening tonight yes I think so there's some. Doubt I guess in terms of if they did lose heavily tonight. Whether corporate would actually stand up or continue as leader while they do the post-mortem as it were. And possibly with John McDonald taking over deputy but neither do they you know think though they don't so so yeah a surprising call I guess that he would sort of carry on but clearly that process needs to needs to take place for a very gracious speech actually And yeah. Considering the vitriol that's been sort of level to get against him he was particular gracious in in that speech. Yeah I'm just looking sort of on screen and noticing the exit poll that we had their review being revised in terms of the expectation that Labor might not lose quite as heavily so I think the latest ones are 357 for the Conservatives $21.00 for the labor but there's 2 stories going on here I think there's this sea of blue right across England maybe the southern. Counties sort of London specifically sort of holding out pretty for the Labor vote so huge to Tory victory but also the s.n.p. Doing extra extremely well in Scotland picking up votes from both the Conservative Party and the Labor Party so there's going to be 2 victors tonight Northern Ireland which we haven't talked about. Is Yet To dogs the d.p. Leader has lost his Shin Fein and taken a seat from the pay so not a great night for the day he was there Westminster leader was absolutely Yes No that's right. And they lost one of the Alliance Party didn't they the d.p. I think as well. In truth I think in ours as well so as we. Branded Lewis is now giving his acceptance speech thank you as with everybody else want to thank the returning officer and the entire team who have worked very very long die at a huge thank you particularly in a day that's been the base whether in a huge thank you everybody who came out to anybody voted for to take the time out on a cold wet day when it was dark early I want to huge thank you to everybody in Great Yarmouth and to everybody who voted for me it's very humbling that to go through and go out and vote on a day like today and to trust me with your vote is something I will take on board and I will make sure that we do the right thing by delivering on what you voted for and people in Great Yarmouth are being very clear today as we are starting to see around the country people being clear that they want us to get breaks it down and we would do that we would do that by the end of January and here in Great Yarmouth think it in you to work to ensure that we see the investments we want to see and all of a personal level I want to give a huge thank you to my wife my family have been phenomenal support us here we can't do what we do if it's not with the support of our very close friends and family and thank you to them for all they do and a huge thank you to the best campaign see anybody can wish or thank you to everybody in Great Yarmouth I thank you to everybody tonight thank you. Steve from around the. Time for Great Yarmouth I want to finish by saying thank you to go over those figures again. I had today was 28593 for brand in the us at 10000. $930.00 from Mike Smith class a distinct loss of rights from labor and straight into the counting cost for the conservatives brand has increased his majority on every election thanks if I can call him I get an extra way with ground unless he's just shaking hands at the moment with the chief executive of the Bar Council but while I'm trying to attract his attention I wonder how much a spring the microphone on his wife just stay in the credit was paid now you don't want to know Brandon if we may just get away with you say we think the best m.p. And then asked for Norfolk you've been returned you've grown a new majority every time yes oh yeah she's yet to turns 10 we have done but a huge thank you to the way of anybody's anyway north who have they voted for people have come out of the cold windy and emotional of what day to day so it's very humbling and a huge thank you to everybody who voted the acceptance speeches that were made by your counterparts the Liberal Democrats pointing out that 27 or so percent of people didn't vote for direction in this bar will you include them in the Jenny as your government goes forward then. To actually deliver that and make sure that the country is is Regina 90 because that's a pledge Boris Johnson has made oh absolutely look both as a local Member of Parliament and as a government we govern and we represent everybody and that is with a vote 1st with a vote on all that we job is to represent we have to do that I think any breaks it down does mean the country can start coming back together and I shouldn't get to focus on those domestic issues will case so much about Mike Smith classes that he will continue to campaign in his role with the Labor Party he's passionate about helping people on universal credit as a pledge Labor had made to scrap universal credit your party will stick with it no doubt will it be something to relieve the hardship on some of the families in your constituency Well I think I think sadly fight a lot of scaremongering based in the sense that there were so many shoes in the beginning but they have been rectified we made. Changes I mean this is a system that gets people back into work it's got the high satisfaction rates of any welfare system anywhere in the world in the latest survey so we've got to make sure we continue to believe universe credit and help people get back into work that's what gives job security and financial security for families in the future what next for you I mean your security is minister but you've had some very high profile jobs in the cabinet do you have ambitions in the new virus Johnson government but you will have a bigger and greater role I have a very focused ambition to be the best member Paul I can be for great Yama friend of those thank you very much your time Ok Thank you thanks to Andrew McGinn the prime minister's constituency now Oxbridge and south right to decoration being my 69. The number of rejected ballot papers was 93 and I hereby declare that said Boris Johnson or a strong prime minister reelected. In Oxbridge Let's hear what he has to say good morning everybody boil a Gentleman thank you all very much and there's no I don't want to I don't want to tempt fate because clearly lots of results are still coming in and we're still many dealing with projections but at this stage it does look as though this One Nation Conservative government has been given a powerful new mandate. Oh to get pretty done. Not just to get pretty done but to unite this country and to take it forward and to focus on the priorities of the British people in the bottle on the n.h.s. And yes we will recruit 50000 more nurses and 6000 more T.V.'s and we will build 40 new hospitals and I'm proud to say that one of the across the country and one of those hospitals will be right here in Oxbridge and south Rice and I'm grateful I'm grateful once again to the people of Oxbridge inside. Reisa for returning me to see you it is an absolute privilege to do this job and to work for you and I thank once again the police the council everybody who's worked so hard all night to count for us to return the offices I thank my fellow candidates in all their glory . Nor Buckethead. And others Elmo and others forgive me for I if I don't if I don't identify them all but I bow bow I want to thank I want to thank the people of this country for turning out to vote in a December election that we didn't want to call it which I think has turned out to be a historic election that gives us now in this new government the chance to respect the democratic will of the British people to change this country for the better and to unleash the potential of the entire people of this country and that is what we will now do and if we are lucky enough to be returned as the polls as the exit polls seem to suggest then that work will begin tomorrow thank you all very much all right I should say not tomorrow today. Thank you thank you the prime minister there Boris Johnson returned Oxbridge and south Ross appealing to b.b.c. Writing off the Thomas 343 and another conservative hoping to be returned in this election is clearly Smith the cabin of an arch north with our political reporter Robbie west of the show ground. You're about 15 minutes away from that correction here and I'm joined by Chloe Smith the conservative candidate for knowledge no closer what do you make of the exit poll tonight well it's very positive looking at support for the conservatives and I'm and I'm pleased if it is so obviously we're awaiting the result here in originals but it looks from results across the country as if it's so far is a positive night for the conservatives and why do you think it's been so positive for the conservatives Well I think it's been a really key message coming out from people certainly that I've been speaking to an original and I think across the country that we want to get that sit down and then move on to all those of important things here in north north has been a range of things we've been discussing that but they all begin with getting great sit down and I think that's come across Latin play if there is a big majority to the conservative party in your overturned which you hope to play a part in a future cabinet Well we shall see I don't know anything at all about that but let's see what happens by morning 1st of all let's see what happens here in the count and the regionals Frink I think you have such a Thomas Beatie list below 20 after that correction which oppose expecting about 1520 minutes time Rob thank you very much indeed Robbie West our political reporter at the rim Norfolk showground there were there are 3 counts taking place broadly and Norwich North and south Norfolk this is b.b.c. Radio Norfolk we've heard Jeremy Corbyn and Boris Johnson's declarations here on the. Radio Live and Jo Swinson has just lost her seat by a few 100 votes is that Lee Martin you're with me in the studio we're looking at Yeah you know there simply got 19 about 100100 some 40 I think and she got 90523 yes 149 votes Joe Swinson the Liberal Democrat leader has lost her seat Now this was predicted from fairly all in the evening wasn't given the love the exit poll yes yes it was and it reflects just how well the s. And p. Are doing taking seats off all. Competitors and she had lost it before of course she is she became an m.p. No 5 lost the seat in 15 regained in 17 and is now lost again so where do you think the Liberal Democrats go from here now that they mean what they have in the past change the constitution so the leader of the party can be from outside of parliament I think they did that awfully went down to a 10 piece and 2015 but do you think really is going to say we have to try think it's going to be a difficult call I feel I'm crossing over now to our north west northwest result in a nucleus or the election of a Member of Parliament for northwest North but I do hereby give notice that the number of votes recorded for each candidate is as follows Colwell Yuval Democrats 3625. In Michael Green Party 1645 rest Labor Party 10705 while James the Conservative Party candidate 30620 to. A. Team aspirant of a conservative has said Thank you John McCain was actually trying to use to get arrested in North Africa last time too and. That's. The chief executive and the recounts what the returning officer. He got her photos 30628 which is quite quite something that was find him a job asked for labor only 10700 thank us for going 273600 55 and Michael Board if we missed 1601 thank you we return you also want to thank everyone here who is. Counted long into the morning and also the people are manning the polling stations across. This world. Yeah. The was. What I'm afraid we can't quite hear the remarks being made there by James Watt but we did hear the result very clearly. And it described a thumping majority there for the conservatives in northwest Norfolk Yes indeed turned again to a similar pattern with other states across Norfolk and I'm so pleased to be in better we can now him as a station I want to thank Nick and my family particular want to thank my wife Natalie and everyone who supported me through this campaign has helped deliver this tremendous result. And I look forward to voting for the new products that deal and then moving forward for the positive ambitious agenda and the broad strokes and to take this country forward and help make North West Norfolk an even better place to live work and visit thank you very much thank. You I can't stand before you and. The 2 spin on this we are incredibly disappointed in the reason why I'm so disappointed is because I have an amazing fantastic group of young people it was so good. And I desperately wanted to be able to deliver something to you that was going to represent on the spur ration that I know I wanted you to have a would have caught. And you have all been amazing and you the ones that have inspired me every step of the way my family have had to put up with say much I think they enjoy it when I'm not there but I did with my 2nd family and not some of the people that have been campaigning with us and I've always said I'd just popped up prone to election like some people. Thank you was. I was. Just saying because we elected them to come to being the mayor funding the Queen Elizabeth Hospital I'll be with them every step of the way. Thank you but it's a risk that says we've already been that doing on a regular basis and will be with me in supporting him in his campaign to get back to services the North was worth it because this is my constituency This is your own constituency I will be here by taking from that to being a child under Labor that I. Was I wish I could have delivered move for you but we're not going anywhere with a. Well the show words there from Joe Russ the Labor candidate in northwest North but if you are just tuning in the time is 9 minutes to 4 in the morning and the conservatives have retained Northwest Norfolk their candidate there James while getting a majority of just a shade under 20000 over Joe Rusty got 30627 she got 10705 the Lib Dems 3625 the Greens 1645 and if you are just tuning in the big news is also coming nationally in the last few minutes is that the Liberal Democrat leader. Joe Swinson has by about 149 votes lost her seat in Scotland so bad news a lot of places if you're a liberal democrat supporter north Norfolk that has gone to the conservatives it was a liberal Democrat seat for 18 years well Pressley Martin he's with me in the studio here in Norfolk there isn't really good news for anybody apart from the conservatives and if you're in Scotland the Scottish National Party and those the only tea parties will be celebrating tonight really I think so slightly mixed picture have just taken said Colburn's from the conservatives but losing your leader. I think we were talking before we had some of the results come through about whether Joe Swinton could carry on amended their constitution I think that the leader can be outside the commons but what they really want but I think she's so identified with this defeat she was talking not too long ago about being prime minister in waiting. You know which obviously was a far fetched claim but. The decision to actually subverted the results of the referendum and to say that she wasn't going to have a people's vote she changed obviously midway through but I think the campaign has been pretty disastrous for liberal democrats and she carries a lot of responsibility for that and I think she will pay the price alternately. Labor did of course support that people's vote idea but it hasn't done them a great deal of good there's a no no it doesn't mean I think maybe if the Liberal Democrats had sort of stuck to the people's vote rather than sort of saying that basically they were going to. Stop breaks that that might have been a different outcome for them I think that didn't play well with the electorate and she must take some. Most of the responsibility for that I think they'll be looking for another leader very soon Leigh thank you. On Sunday breakfast this week how a new cookbook is helping to tackle modern day slavery the book has the 85 recipes but it's also got an amalgamation of stories of real stories that we've encountered how someone might be drawn into that horrible crime and why the late night city pastors will no longer be an orange sort of predicted that if we didn't get another recruit over the last 2 years or so we would need to call it a day but unfortunately it didn't happen join me this Sunday morning from sinks as we look at the different winter festivals being celebrated across the county on b.b.c. Radio Norfolk your part of the b.b. Saying. This is indeed your part of the b.b.c. B.b.c. Radio or footwear the time is 6 minutes to 4 you're listening to Paul Hayes with your general election coverage through until 6 o'clock this morning when Chris Corum and the team will take over and they'll give you all the reaction and analysis when we've been able to gather more interviews and take a more of a look at what's been happening across the county there are I think 4 more results we're still waiting for Southwest Norfolk and the 3 results from. North and broadly and as well there but we can find out a bit more about to the national picture that's going on because I think Tony Bronson Your who's a following the proceedings from our Milbank's you. As in London can give us a bit of a moron here for national picture tiny I think the big stories we were just talking about him original for his a Joe Swinson in the last a half hour so losing her seat in Scotland by 150 old seats I mean this will be so painful I think for the Lib Dems obviously for Gerry Swinson personally for all those remaining years who held out hope that this this thing called Breck's it could be stopped I think this is the most painful. Reminder to them if you want about how badly this night has has gone for them and the irony perhaps here is that this was it's a way for are also about Lee between the s. And p. And the Lib Dems the 2 parties who when it came to it were the ones who enabled the election to happen you might remember that it was the Lib Dems or the s.n.p. Who came out over the weekend about 6 weeks ago and said if there is an election motion will vote for it bring it on yes if he's a legend or relatively well very well out of it the latest projection is about $52.00 seats for the s.n.p. In Scotland a huge night for them disastrous not for the Lib Dems remain as and of course for Joe Swenson the leader has gone. And looking at the picture elsewhere Tony I mean obviously here in Norfolk the seeds we've been declaring So far the picture has been mostly a great news for the conservative clitorises held north south for the Labor Party but apart from the votes piling on for the conservatives Rove the place and I'm guessing that's reflected in the national picture it is it is I mean there's no pictures there's obviously you know we're still results coming in and you know there will be lots of analysis as the day goes on the broad picture seems to be this is a lot of seats in the north and in the middle and Labor seats through and through for decades some of them of never return to conservatives one by one they fall and the list just goes on and on Doncaster sage feel great Grimsby blither Valley Darlington Workington Redcar genuinely I just could go on and on with the seats of turned blue unthinkably I think just you know a matter of months ago that's how bad a night it has been for labor but then also divisions here divisions between town and city between urban areas and rural areas between England and Scotland and I think they you know that those divisions might get lost a little bit in the headline of a conservative majority today but they're there and that's something that Boris Johnson will have to bear in mind as he begins the process of governing for the next 4 probably 5 years and it also means Tony that seats that Labor were really targeting are kept a clean arch nor fair here in Norfolk where they can serve so how majority $507.00 last time it doesn't look as if they're going to be out of big anywhere near taking now after all you know and you know in there you know it was quite interested as we were sort of looking ahead to tonight we're thinking this is a very difficult elections recall because there's such a regional and local picture in certain states and tactical voting why. As I sit here coming up for 4 am surveying the results the story really is a classic swing swing from Labor to the conservatives probably 1012 percent in some states even more than that and that general swing means that a lot of those. Seats that would have been Labor target seats just a matter of weeks ago have just got Salut really no hope now is just holding on for them those seats where they've already got a significant majority. Well Tony in our Milbank studio in London thank you very much indeed for game is an update on the national picture we will of course continue to bring you any other big national stories that come up over the next a couple of hours here until 6 o'clock on the overnight election results show here on b.b.c. Radio Norfolk but concentrating on those that for Norfolk's the seats we're still waiting to declare we have knowledge north which was that labor target which are doesn't look like they're going to be taking now broad learned Southwest Norfolk and south morphic and you would expect all 4 of those to stay in the hands of the conservatives but strange things can happen in elections you can get an unusual exults we were hearing the labor retained Canterbury which they very unexpectedly took a couple of years ago and it was on a knife edge that perhaps the conservatives particularly on this national swing as Tony was just talking about you would have expected them to take that back but that has been retained by Labor and the Liberal Democrats and they want to gains as well so there are strange results all over the place so you never know that there can be results we're not expecting but we would expect at this stage all of the remaining 4 seats in Norfolk that haven't yet declared to go to the conservatives which would leave 8 Norfolk seats a conservative and just one labor but we will hopefully get those results for you over the next couple of hours. Election 2019 on b.b.c. Radio Norfolk Good morning it's 4 am you are listening to b.b.c. Radio Norfolk This is Paul Hayes with our general election coverage we've had 5 of Norfolk seats declared so far the 1st one was not South where Clive Lewis retained his seat for labor but otherwise it's been all blue all across the county mid Norfolk retained by George Freeman We had North Norfolk gained by the Conservatives it was a liberal Democrat seat before. But they have majority of 814000 now for Duncan Baker Great Yarmouth brand and Lewis has retained his seat then northwest Norfolk James Wilde now the conservative member of parliament there and we can speak to James Wilde now he is with our west Norfolk producer Jill Bennett Yes And James well must be very pleasing he's got a really big charge she only just shy really of $220000.00 are you were you expecting such a decisive result I mean the feedback on the doorstep has been very positive about the message about getting back to Donna moving forward but this result was exceeded my expectations a looks like it's going to be a good night the Conservative Party generally I think the message just got across across the country with how to an excellent result in north Norfolk and across other parts of the country say I think people want us to move on as a country and deliver on bricks at George Johnson is described this is an historic election is that how you see it yeah I mean talking to people during the campaign they compared this to the 79 election the choice that was on offer was that stark between a mainstream One Nation Conservative government they want to move forward will they pass you want to have another referendum and the leader of their party can even say how he votes in that referendum. What he did for you personally what happens next. Well I'll be getting sworn into the House of Commons I think she's there Wednesday next week then the Queen's speech and then I'm expecting the box that builds come before parliament on Friday and I'll be there voting for that for the people in the 1st Norfolk you give me a huge vote of confidence to take the country forward and focus on the priorities here the health service schools and transport I mean you have been advisor to parse Johnson are you expecting to be instantly promotion or do you think you're going to have to serve an apprenticeship they are delighted to be the new m.p. For Northwest Norfolk and representing the constituents here so that's my focus and I'm not expecting a phone call for. One thing for all new for Olympians I say you've got to represent those who didn't vote for you as well as those who did want your message to them and what Northwest often Yeah I said.
