Frightening scene on video. Hello and good morning. Im michaela pereira. Im john berman. Those stories and more right now this hour. And we do begin with the v. A. Secretary on thin ice with president obama. Those words coming directly from the white house. This is a stunning new report. It reveals a ballooning list of deficiency. A review of the inspector again found in phoenix alone, at least 1,700 veterans were never scheduled for an appointment or even put on a waiting list. It also indicates the investigation has expanded to include 42 v. A. Medical centers. Now the Justice Department is reviewing the report as the American Legion calls for a criminal investigation. Now, as this scandal widens, pressure is mounting on v. A. Secretary Eric Shinseki and his deputies. This is just a tiny shred of the criticism lodged last night by members of congress. How you can stand in a mirror and look at yourself in the mirror and shave in the morning and not throw up. Unforgivable. Theres a question about destruction of documents and you dont even know who did it or their motive. This is nearly a decade of excuses. The house is on fire, and nobodys going to survive. All of you, i think, got to find Something Else to do. I want to bring in our Senior Investigative correspondent drew griffin who first broke this story right here on cnn. Saw a lot of outrage there. What is the key finding at this point in the preliminary report, drew . Reporter michaela, i think the key finding is not only is it as bad as we thought it was, it is even worse. And the report actually, this precursor of a real report, leads to the fact that theres going to be plenty, plenty more bad stuff yet to come. This is a huge and growing scandal. The fact that they have announced in this office of Inspector General report that now 42 different facilities are facing scrutiny really says to me exactly what the oig said. This is a systemic failure throughout the v. A. Drew, you know the system now, i think, better than any reporter in america. It seems almost inevitable at this point that the calls for Eric Shinseki to resign will force him out of office eventually. My question to you and this was posed by my friend rick klein at abc what does that fix in the v. A. System if and when Eric Shinseki steps down . Reporter well, i dont know what its going to fix in the v. A. System, to be quite blunt, john. But what its going to fix for the president is an end to a political crisis thats just getting worse and worse and worse. I was at that fourhour hearing last night. It started at 7 30, went till 11 30. Both sides of that hearing room, democrats and republicans, it was packed. And overflowing with extra congressmen not even on that committee who wanted to come in there and rail against the v. A. This is a political bomb for the president. And both sides dont think hes handling it very well. The other thing is, do you need to get beyond this political crisis for the v. A. To really begin to heal itself and move in the direction it needs to move . Ill leave that up to the politici politicians, for the pundits to decide. But you know, if you dont get rid of shinseki and these reports continue to come out, every time one comes out, there is going to be another political headache for the president and his administration. That is to be sure. Were going to explore that right now. But of course the question also goes to what happens to those veterans needing care . What is being done for them . But adding to the fray, House Speaker john brainer just sa bo this morning that president obama should be held accountable of the problems at the v. A. , stopping short of calling for shinsekis resignation. The chorus is growing in congress. Democrats, republicans. This is what senator john mccain, combat veteran, told wolf blitzer. Phoenix v. A. Is not an island. Its not immune to other influences every other v. Ranchv. A. Is probably going to have these same influences on them because they were trying to comply with guidelines that were laid down from the headquarters of the v. A. Which they couldnt meet. Thats what this whole phantom waiting list and stuff is all about. I havent said this before, but i think its time for general shinseki to move on. All right. Lets bring in our political panel. Political commentator republican consultant margaret hoover, political analyst and editor of the daily beast, mr. John avlon. Has general shinseki become an albatross around the president s neck . Is it time for him to go . This is a political pileon moment. The key question is this, does a political scalp solve the problem . Shinseki is a man with a very respected record. Hes clearly lost the confidence of congress. Could it switch into high gear to really start dealing with the systemic problem or is this such a political pileon that its time that the president doesnt hold leaders accountable, fire him and put a fixer in to get the job done fast. The problem, too, is shinseki may lack the political clout to actually get change done within the v. Archgta. Thats the point that drew griffin made. Maybe fixes cant happen while hes there. Margaret, you have worked in a white house before. Ive never heard a cabinet secretary be told hes on thin ice before. Thats shocking to me. That was leaked overnight by white house officials to the media. On thin ice. You know, what does that mean . Either you fire the guy or push him out or you dont. But what do you gain by saying hes on thin ice . Because youre demonstrating to the American People that youre on top of this and youre willing to make cuts where you need to. Youre willing to let somebody go. And i think thats what president obama needs to do because frankly, he was late to this political scandal. Because he didnt get on this early and fast and with enough, i think, emotion, it got out from under him, and it became a political scandal. This didnt need to be political. I think if they had handled this seriously and effectively at the beginning, and this is a trend, i think, with president obamas administration. There are a couple of things that have gotten bigger than they needed to be before he got there. Remember the bp oil spill . It took him a long time to get down there and sort of acknowledge that people were looking at the administration. The irs scandal, the obamacare website. There have been several things hes been late to the game on and i think this has made it unnecessarily political. I do think the secretary is probably not going to decide this. Is there danger beyond this Administration Just for both parties . Has this become such a game of political football, we know our veterans are very important to us, very dear to the american public. We all believe they should be taken care of. If this becomes too much of a political football between the two parties, is that going to upset too many of the voters that say, look, youre not getting to the business at hand . Look, it should because the focus should be on solving this problem. The problem is, of course, that weve had had decades of reports showing systemic problems in the v. A. We had a whistleblower say to the daily beast the other day that the organization resembles a Crime Syndicate to some extent with regard to the endemic corruption and avoidance of confronting these issues. The rush is all political. Its not about necessarily solving that problem. Thats where the American People need to set a clear message. The fact that now red state dems are calling for his resignation, thats politics. They need to create distance. No one wants to be on the wrong side of that equation. And mom and apple pie. But the truth is, maybe it takes a political crisis to get it done, but its a bipartisan political kries. Democrats and republicans are equally rushing to the door. I dont think theres squabbling between the two. Theres a uniform call for change to happen. And maybe, maybe, it just takes a political crisis to force real reform on the v. A. Everyones within their rights to be plenty angry. Theyre in their rights to point fingers if they want to make a political fight of this, they can, as long as they follow up when the fight is over. Rearrange the deck chairs. And that followup almost never happens because political theater takes a back seat to solving problems. You know when you have fights with somebody, you forget what the arguments about because youre just so busy fighting . Thats the concern, right . John, margaret, great to have you here. Really appreciate it. Ahead for us this hour, so the news was just shocking to so many people and heartbreaking for the families of those on board flight 370. Those pings that held out so much promise, it sounds like they could be false leads. Now theres talk of using another kind of technology to solve this mystery. Also, a tv icon, dickey s t smothers will join us to talk about the sixties, the decade that changed the world. Cause me discomfort. Exactly, because its milk without the lactose. And it tastes . Com i dont always have timeh to eat like i should. Thats why i like glucerna shakes. They have slowly digestible carbs to help minimize blood sugar spikes. [male announcer] glucerna. Welcome back, everyone. Those pings in the indian ocean were supposed to be such important leads. Officials had placed so much hope on the idea they were coming from flight 370s black boxes. Well, now weve learned really the shocking news. A u. S. Navy official says the pings probably were not from the missing malaysian airliner at all. Plus, Officials Say the plane is not in the area where the bluefin21 has been searching. Our aviation correspondent Richard Quest joins us now. Well, how much of a setback is this, after all were nearly at three months, three months, and now were looking in the wrong place, and these are not the pings . It is obviously a major setback. Its devastating in one respect that it is not where they thought it should be. But, of course, the announcement that its not that its not the pings is an expost facto announcement because theyve searched the grounds and it wasnt there. Its almost like its a logical conclusion that the search has taken place. They havent found anything, ergo, they werent the pings. But there is no question it is a serious setback because it was the best hope they had, and it did give them the most and they talked about it at the time back at the middle of april with such encouragement as it being not natural, as it having the right consistency and components of a locator. Richard, you bring up an important point. You say it is expost facto that theyre deciding this after they searched this area that they werent the pings so the pings werent really what they thought they were. Is that really the case, or should they have doubted the quality or the veracity of these pings to a much greater extent much earlier . All right. So heres the problem. If youre right and of course they did we musnt treat these people as idiots. Youre talking about researchers, so they know what theyre doing. And they came up with some extremely strong reasons. Now, throughout those people that said yes, but the frequency wasnt right, yes, but it was a long way apart, yes, but there were four of them in different areas. But heres the real point, john and michaela. They had nothing else. They had towed, they heard, they analyzed, and they searched. Now, you can arguably say they should have been more skeptical, but then you and i and everybody else would have been saying why arent you following the pings . Why arent you following the pings . So youre damned if you do and damned if you dont. And they were doing it all in a very short period of time before what they knew and believed was the 30day limit. Okay. So fine, lets put all of that aside. But where do they go from here . What is their next course of action . Right. Thats really interesting because today we also had this announcement from the australians down in canberra. Now, what theyre going to do is they are refining it. They are going back to the original inmarsat data. Theyre going to look, and theyre going to define an area wait for it a search area of up to 60,000 square kilometers. Still vast. Theyre going to conduct the survey, learn what the underwater what the topography is like, and then theyre going to put out a tender to get a single operator, a single contractor, to do the search. Where are they going to search . Theyre going to go back to the inmarsat handshakes. Theyre going to start looking again at that seventh handshake, the partial handshake, because thats where they believe the plane entered the water. Im going to anticipate your question, if i may be so bold. Sure. Your next question is how do they know the inmarsat data is correct . Read our minds. Well, the answer is its been checked. Its been checked many times. Its been checked by many organizations. If the inmarsat data is wrong, please turn off the lights on the way out. Richard quest, great to have you with us, both answering and asking questions for us. A fullservice operation. Cut out the middle man. Great to have you here. Ahead for us this hour, there is another possible lead in this search. Could underwater microphones have heard flight 370 crash . Well discuss that just ahead. [ man ] look how beautiful it is. This is a really sad commentary on the state of our circumstance, but i am desperately hoping that phillip is being held hostage by a hijacker. And, you know, only in this situation could i possibly say that. You know, the ping frequencies were wrong from the beginning. Im a serious scuba diver. I know that frequencies dont change under water, and they dont change from a deadening battery. They might not go as far, but they dont change frequency. Im astounded that they put as much credence on those as they did. That was sara bajc whose partner, phillip wood, was aboard flight 370. We had a chance to talk to her earlier about this news that apparently those pings were false leads and that the bluefin search was in hindsight a bit of a wild goose chase. Yeah, so the big question now is are they back to square one in this search . We want to bring in our analyst, mary schiavo and david soucie. David, let me ask you first off. Seven weeks now scouring this area where they heard those pings. Had the have these been seven wasted weeks . You know, in some aspects they have. Its hard to go back, as michaela said, hindsights always better. But at the same time, theres going to be some Big Questions to ask and some answers that im not sure they have as to why they continued the search as long as they did. And these questions will come out when its time to pay the bill. And those are going to be hard questions. You know, as far as whether they were wasted, i dont think so. Mary, when both john and i spoke to sara bajc earlier, she talked about the fact that they had spoken. The family members had spoken with many aviation experts and that they didnt have much credence in those pings. Are you one of those aviation experts that feels that way, that there wasnt a lot to be said for these pings, the wrong frequency, et cetera . Why was so much put on them if those were not the right that wasnt the right intelligence . Well, and i was one of those people to say why dont we test them . It was amazing to me that we didnt have data that would show what would happen to the pingers when theyre under water and under the pressure of water for more than 30 days . There was a study out of portugal that said there could be as much as a one kilohertz variance. So youve had one either way off of the 37. 5. But there wasnt any study that showed it was 33 that it could go to 33. 3, so it was astonishing to me that in this whole time, now almost three months, that no one checked to see if that would happen to a pinger. But, you know, in an investigation, and again, they didnt have much to go on, i dont think it was a waste. And i think it was reasonable to do it because im practical about it. They didnt have anything else to go on. They simply couldnt tell the families of 239 people theyre not looking. Then i think they had to follow the lead. Thats what you do in an investigation. You follow the leads youve got. And they exhausted the leads. Its not there. That leads done. And theyll have to go on to the next lead. Well, the next lead. Lets talk about that because some people are now suggesting that there are these underwater microphones. There are underwater microphones all around the world that listen for Nuclear Explosions as these devices test if countries are Testing Nuclear weapons with when they shouldnt be. Some people are suggesting maybe one of these devices could have heard the plane crash. David soucie, does that make any sense to you . It makes a lot of sense to me because remember, these are not just looking for Nuclear Explosions. Theyre looking for anomalous activity which could indicate that the testing was under way before the explosion occurs. If they waited till after the explosion, it wouldnt be very effective. So they actually were listening more than just for the explosion itself. Theyre listening for activity in certain areas. And this area may just have been lucky enough to be near an area where the aircraft crashed. Mary, we talked to Richard Quest a moment ago talking about the fact theyre essentially going back to the drawing board, back to that seventh handshake, that partial handshake, that seventh ping. Again, reassess the data and go from there. You said this is normal in the course of an investigation. It is. You follow a lot of leads. I mean, there have just been many times even with the wreckage where you go back to the hangar floor where its spread out or try for Something Else or look for wiring or cables or all of these clues. And here its not that theyre going back, you though, starting over. Theyre going back to the inmarsat data. Because remember, it was the inmarsat final handshake that led them to search for the pings here. And then, of course, once they picked up the ping literally on the first day they put the microphone on the water or the sonar, the listening devices, then they were anchored on that fact. So i think theyre going back to this inmarsat data. Its a wider area because they have no pings. Theres no possibility of any pings at this late date. So it is back to the drawing board, meaning back to the inmarsat data. Australia has said they might try to put on traditional aviation navigation waypoints, like what youd fly if you were flying the highway in the sky to see if its possible the plane was following those on its own or by piloting. So they still have the leads that they had before. They just dont have the ping data because its been exhausted. Mary schiavo and david soucie, thanks so much for joining us and lending us your expertise, as always. Ahead for us this hour, theres about a 50 50 chance youve been hacked this year. I dont want to make light of this, but a lot of you watching us right now were likely hacked in the last 12 months. Yeah, according to new research, 110 million americans, about half the adults in our nation, had personal information exposed on your iphone, your laptop or through corporate hacking. Half of our viewership. And today thousands of australians woke up to their iphones and ipads asking them to pay a ransom to unlock their devices. Thats nuts. Joining us to talk about this is kevin micnick. He knows hacking because hes one of the fbis mostwanted. Thankfully now a Security Consultant to fortune 500 companies. You hear that number, 110 Million People hacked. To me that sounds insane. But is it . I dont know if that number is accurate, but i can tell you that well, what do they actually mean by hacked . Does that mean your credit card information was stolen . What does that really mean . But its really a problem because for a living, Companies Hire me to test their security. And we have 100 success rate. So every time were asked to break in, we actually succeed. So if we succeed, the bad guys succeed, too. That is upsetting, kevin. Now, talk to me, then, give us some advice on this side. How do we protect our information . How do we protect our devices . Well, one thing is password management. For example, maybe hacked with the iphone in australia, theres a few possibilities. One was icloud was hacked. Another is that a hacker was able to steal the apple i. D. Credentials to log in to peoples accounts, which seems to be a little bit unlikely, but people are really bad at choosing passwords. So what i recommend to my friends and family is to use a password manager. Theres keepass, kee pass. Download it and then generate a random password for each site you use and protect it with one single password which is like a pass phrase, something really hard to guess. And that way youre not using the same or similar password at every site you use, which a lot of people do. It sounds like good advice, but at the same time you just told us that even if we do that, the experts like you could still hack into it. So let me try Something Different here. We just said 170 million americans have been hacked. Hang on. 110 million americans have been hacked. But 110 million of us havent had people stealing our identity. 110 million of us arent having people vacation around the world under our names using our credit cards. Whats being done with this information . Well, its being bought and sold. So usually the criminalbased hackers are stealing bank account numbers, credit card credentials and selling that in the underground markets. You know, you could buy a valid credit card for probably 1 each, and then can you go out and use it online. So theres definitely a market. So what hackers do is they break into large companies, steal their databases, which unfortunately contain unencorrupted passwords on some occasions. Or the hacker is able to decrypt the database because the company puts the Encryption Keys onto the server itself. So theres many different problems like when i bank online, when i use my when im doing banking, when im doing credit card transactions, i actually use a separate computer. I use a google chromebook. Theyre about 200 bucks. And that is completely separate from what im doing day to day on my computer. So if my computer gets compromised, theyre never going to get into the chromebook which is used to manage my banking transactions. So basically what hes saying is that we all need a pintsized Kevin Mitnick we carry around with us at all times. Kevin, thanks for joining us. Hopefully youve given folks an idea what they need to keep their digital imprint, if you will, a little more protected. There are too many gaps in the understanding of the effects and treatment for concussions. Researchers are still learning about the causes and consequences of these injuries. Communities are wondering how young it is to start tackle football, for example. Parents are wondering whether their kids are learning the right techniques or wearing the best safety equipment. Or whether they should sign up to have their kids participate in any fullContact Sports at all. That was president obama, obviously, speaking just minutes ago at the white house and the nfl are teaming up for a summit today to help kids stop them from getting concussions while playing sports. This, ive got to tell you, say huge concern for parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts. I was just going to say, the whole family. It really is being called a Public Health crisis. 250,000 emergency room visits by Young Athletes every year. Joining us is former nfl defensive end tim green. Hes also author of many bestselling books including football genius. Its really a pleasure to have you here with us once again on our program. We know that part of the summit today, nfl is voicing its commitment to give 25 million to get more athletic trainers on High School Football sidelines. I think it was shocking to me, i dont know about you, tim, that half of schools dont have them. I would imagine theyre kind of the first line of defense, are they not . Yeah, they are. Especially when you have Contact Sports and you have kids who are out there not just football, but any other sport. And if a kid does have a concussion, a lot of times those kids dont know. You dont know if you have a concussion. That happens quite frequently. Not every concussion is a knockout where youre blacked out. Sometimes youre disoriented. Sometimes, you know, your vision is blurred. Sometimes youre amnesiac. You need a professional whos able to diagnose to say weve got to get this athlete off the field. Tim, i know youre a dad. I am, too. Ive got two 7yearold boys. I stand on the soccer and lacrosse sidelines every weekend talking to other parents about this subject. One dad told me one town can no longer have a Football Team because so many kids have pulled out of football. Is this trend now irreversible . Well, i dont think its irreversible. I think football is getting a bad rap. People need to be better educated because honestly in youth sports, the incidence of injuries and head injuries in soccer and in lacrosse and in hockey and certainly they are commensurate with football. And then there are other activities we let our kids do all the time, ride their bike, ride a skateboard, downhill skiing which are all activities that are much more dangerous where your kids are much more likely to have a head injury. So football is getting a hard knock right now when it comes to these concussions. Im going to push back a little bit because obviously we see that hockey and football are ones where kids are going to be hurt in more repeated fashion, especially when you talk about the aggression that is used in football. And look, trust me, i love the game. Im a supporter of athletics. Heres the concern. When you hear about the numbers and you hear about the reaction, i think there is a worry that people are going to throw the baby out with the bathwater, to use a cliche. Is there a way to easily stem this danger for our kids without overreacting . Do you see where im going . Well, michaela, the thing about football is theres a lot more contact, a lot more impacts, but you have a helmet to protect your head. In basketball i mean, baseball, i guess you have a helmet. In hockey, the helmets arent quite the same. And in cheerleading, and like i said, just normal activities for kits where they dont have head protection, those activities are more dangerous statistically than football. Yeah, but are there some things we could also be doing . I think the president s initiative here and it is very comprehensive when you read it, they talk about cheerleading. They talk about soccer. Its not just football. So to talk about educating parents, Health Care People to get our kids, once they have a concussion, get them off the field, wait till theyre healthy before they can return. And i think there are some rules that youth football, High School Football and ncaa football need to follow the nfl. They need to protect the quarterbacks better because theyre in defenseless positions a lot of times. You could pick a quarterback up in high school, Many High School leagues, and dump him on his head, and thats legal. In the nfl, thats not legal. So i think a lot of the helmettohelmet contacts and the rules changes in the nfl need to be adopted by our youth leagues, our high schools and our colleges. Tim, we appreciate you joining us, as always. Having a great conversation with you. Well keep talking about it and hopefully youll join us again, okay . Well, thanks, michaela. John, let those kids play ball and make sure theyre reading some good books. Yeah. Theyre reading a lot. Im their dad so im not sure theyre going to be giants come on, youre gigantic. And fast and good. The reading is more important. Pick up football genius, okay . There you go. All right. Thanks so much, tim. Storm chaser Scott Shepherd was stalking Severe Weather in south dakota when he stuck his video camera and his full arm out of his vehicles window. Thats when this happened. So that was the moment a lightning bolt struck Scott Shepherds arm, passed through his vehicle and hit the road. He survived, and he recorded the whole scary scenario. Scott joins us from williston, north dakota, via skype. Youre a sight for sore eyes, my friend. How did this feel . It didnt tickle, i can tell you that. Was it painful . It was it was a little painful, yes. My good friend, tim vogel, was in the passengers seat. And what he felt was a pretty big shock wave. Like his whole body being punched. I think that happened to me as well. What overwhelmed that was a jolt of electricity throughout my body but primarily in that arm that i had foolishly dangled out the window to catch the video. It actually felt like my iphone had exploded out of my hand. My goodness. I think the question a lot of people have right now is after being struck by lightning, what superpowers do you now have . Im going to hit you. What kind of damage did the lightning do to the area there . Sure. So the vehicle that we were in was completely disabled. The pavement right next to the vehicle and around the car exploded, you know, really high in the air, rained debris down on us. The car was actually passing by us as well, and that car was disabled. And on the video, you see like a brown puff of dust or smoke. And tim and i have been talking about that. We didnt see that with our own eyes because i think we were looking at each other, trying to make sure we were both okay. And we have no idea what that is. Can you because im a sharer and a career, not worried about your superpowers, is your arm okay . The arm is fine. It was painful for about a day. I think its pretty clear that i did not get hit with a direct bolt. I dont know if a little bit jumped off the car into my arm. Im not sure. But, you know, i had a sore arm and some weird nerve sensations for about 24 hours, but here we are a day and a half later and im perfectly fine. Wow were glad to hear youre okay. Youve been struck by lightning now and survived. Thats rarefied error. Does that change your perspective . Are you living your life now differently than you were before . Well, i was already out tracking a severe thunderstorm, wasnt i . Yeah. Good point. Are you going to continue . Yes. Yes. I mean, we chase pretty conservatively. We stay away from the tornadoproducing regions, hailproducing regions. Thats what we were doing. We were pulled overweighting for the last storm to pass that had hail when we got hit. Scott shepherd, you have quite a tale to tell, my friend, and im sure youll be doing it this weekend and hopefully somebody will buy you a round of drinks. Take care of yourself, my friend, and stay safe to you and your pal that was in the car with you. Thanks for sharing your story here this hour. Thank you. Glad youre doing well. No xray vision. We are very excited here. The 60s premieres tonight on cnn, a decade of huge changes and television brought it right into the living room. Think about the beatles, the civil rights and jfks assassination and all of this became about peoples lives and using the platform for social and political commentary. Our government is asking us as citizens to refrain from traveling to foreign lands. Okay. All you guys in vietnam, come on home the times were changing so quickly in the 60s. We didnt change them. We just reflected on them. I cant hear you. What are you doing . Im getting ready to go to college. Cbs gave the smothers brothers that show because they were clean cut folk satirist. They were blazers, they could sing well, they were funny. Mom liked you best you lower your voice. Mom liked you best. Lets bring in dickey smothers, onehalf of the smothers brothers themselves. Please send our love to your brother, tom. I was thinking about this. Were living in this wtwitter twitterfetwitter twitterphere age and you guys were so in the moment reflecting what was going on your show every night. Thats what we told cbs we were going to do. We had just got out of an innocuous half hour comedy show. It reflected nothing. They took away the music, timing, songs, audience. It was a one camera show. When they offered us to fill in against bonanza the last rated spot in television at the most important hour of the week and do variety and get our audience back, we said we want something that reflects whats going on outside the studio. Nothing was going on outside that we were aware of but we wanted to have the ability. We taped the show on a friday. So we could be current. Thats all we were thinking was current. Go ahead. Go ahead. I was going to say, he was too much on cbs. You were current on race, current on vietnam and current on social issues and it was too much for the network. I think that speaks to the conflict of the 60s. It definitely was. But, you know, so easy now, looking back at the dots to say, yeah, we planned all this. No, we were working just from moment to moment, incident to incident. When things happened, they had given us, we felt, permission, to reflect what was going on outside the studio. And we did. I dont think anybody else was in place that they could have put in our spot. Carol burnett was ready to go on and they signed us two weeks before she said she wanted a show. Had she done the show, she would have been as brilliant as she was then, one of the best shows ever. But she wasnt a political nature. We were just the right personalities to do it. Jack paar tried to do little bits and pieces the beginning of the 60s. He walked off the show because he couldnt say water closet, for crying out loud. It reflected a toilet. My gosh, you cant say toilet. It was incremental. We were there. When youre young and you dont take any prisoners and tommy had he filled every writing spot except a couple really great old veterans, the rest were young writers. The third season we got steve martin and rob reiner. They didnt form the show, they were just the second guys that came in that had we stayed on, they would have made it further. Some of the guys made my brother do you like what you see on tv. Easy to look back and see the humor and think, man, those were the good old days. Do you look at tv and enjoy it now, what is this im watching with the housewives and the scandals . I think it is magnificent. I dont agree with people saying it is not as good as it used to. It is just like it used to be. There are channels you can get and see exactly what you saw in the 60s. Interesting. Sort of like going to Italian Restaurant is my favorite. Sometimes they have 10 pages of menus with 20 lines of page. You cant make up your mind. When we were on, it was appointment television. You said, okay, we have three choices, our Public Television and maybe independent. If you wanted to see new shows, it was three choices, so easy then. Now, its hard. You have to pick and choose. I have great time watching stre streaming stuff. More options now. And new stuff. You have to know that all comes from television. Television before, you did it once and it was gone. You couldnt see it ever again. I just love it. We are so glad you did it and dont let him sell it short and what you and your brother did was revolutionary. It changed television forever. Tell your brother we said hello. Dont forget to watch the 60s at 9 00 p. M. Eastern and pacific. There has been an attempt on the life 0 of president kennedy. The president has been hit.
