On the scene for us in sutherland springs, texas. You got the latest on the investigation. What more do we know about this domestic trouble with the gunmans motherinlaw and how he got his weapons . Officials said the gunman expressed anger and there was a domestic situation involved in this entire thing. As you just mentioned, officials told us that he had sent threatening texts to his motherinlaw and one official, a source with knowledge of the investigation told cnn that the motherinlaw received a threatening text from him the morning of the shooting. Thats what we can tell you about the situation with his inlaws. His inlaws did attend this church. The First Baptist church on, on occasion, but they were not there at the time. The sheriff of the county told us that the wife of the shooter, possibly an estranged wife may have attended this church. He did have a connection to this church through his inlaws. As to how he purchased the weapons, he had at least three weapons that he had purchased. Four he had purchased and he had with him here at the scene. Two hand guns were found in the car and the ar556 Assault Rifle. He purchased two weapons in colorado. They believe he purchased the ar Assault Rifle in the an san antonio area last year. There was a question whether he was legally able to purchase them for assaulting his spouse and child and was incarcerated for about 12 months and he got out and remarried in 2014. He was trying to piece together how he was able to purchase a weapon when legally he should not have been able to purchase that kind of a weapon with the record he had. One other riveting piece of information coming from the news conference, wolf. As he sped away from the scene, Devin Patrick kelly called his father and said he had been shot and didnt think he was going to make it. They believe he took his own with a self inflicted gunshot wound. He may have done that. Its not clear if he dieed from a self inflicted gunshot wound or when he exchanged gunfire outside this church. With the record he had, its hard to believe that the shooter worked as a Security Guard for a water park for a short period of time over the summer. How did he get that job with that record and spent a year in prison for beating up his wife and a young kid. He was a Security Guard at a water park in texas, about 30 miles or so away from here. Thats his hometown. How he got the job is not clear. We are piecing that together. He was an unarmed Security Guard. He tried to get a license to carry a firearm and according to the governor, he was denied a license. They are trying to piece together how he came upon the ability to get this ar556 Assault Rifle he bought last year. Lots of questions being raised. Thanks very, very much. Of course when we look in retrospect, why didnt you call the police . At the time how could you possibly know he was going to shoot the people that he shot in church. I know you are not an expert in gun laws in texas or oklahoma or colorado, but its a fact that when he served in the u. S. Air force, he was courtmarti courtmartialed for bad conduct for beating up his wife and a little kid. Spent a year in prison and dishonorably discharged for bad conduct. He bought four weapons after that. Is that normal . Common sense would tell you this guy would be denied a gun. My understanding is he was defied one permit to carry. To carry a concealed one. He was able to purchase an assault weapon. It makes no sense. Too many loopholes about how to fix it and take action that quite frankly thats not going to happen. He had a job as a Security Guard at a water park . Given that record. They ran a background check and these are military records and whether or not they had access to that particular file. I dont know the answer to that. Again, probably his behavior is what led to his dismissal. This guy had a troubled history and no one picked up on it. Then again, how do you know he will come in and murder that many people in a church on a sunday. If you have a bad military record, isnt that made available in terms of purchasing guns or getting security background checks and stuff like that . Dealing with the public and the Public Security . You would think so. I dont know if thats something that is standard. You can get into the files. Im not certain if thats the case. You can look at your state files and find out whether or not the person is arrested for a fell me. Whether or not you can get the background military im not certain. They will do a complete investigation with local authorities in texas and federal authorities and the fbi is involved and the atf. They will do the complete review.
