Georgia, born and raised. What is that like . West point is a remarkable community. I am very progress probably progress it has made. We launched our manufacturing we are home of one of the largest textile companies in the world. Live for a decade and half at cash in a tough economy. It was refreshing to see our community altogether and lead an effort to bring advanced manufacturing back. It has been a remarkable turnaround for the community. We learned that jobs are so important. You were a dentist for 20 years before you entered politics. If that what you wanted to run for mayor, because of what was happening in your community . I was content practicing dentistry and raising my children, and having our family see some level of prosperity. What we realized is that because of the changes that were going on in our community we have to get involved in public service. That is when i ran for mayor. We got involved in the Economic Development project that brought so many jobs to west georgia region. Something wee was were doing because we wanted to see our friends and our family and my patients in a much better spot. We focused very heavily on job creation. There was a unique opportunity where west moreland decided not to run again. To take the lessons we have learned about Economic Development, jobs and education and see if we can bring some of those ideas that worked to washington. What was the key when you are mayor to bringing industry back into an area that had suffered such a loss . Several things that we found to be important. The right taxve environment. Creating a text structure where companies can be successful is important in the first few years. Making sure that you have the right Regulatory Environment is very important. As soon as we took down the barriers to regulation we became a partner with an street and set of government being an obstacle. That created even more economic activity. Very important that we have the right Education System in place. That is something we have to do as a nation, we have to acknowledge that we have great Public Education. Our communities need great Public Education because without it we are unable to attract jobs we need. Employers need a stable work force and making sure you have access to employees not just today but tenures from now its vitally important. We are going to create manufacturing jobs at the president has campaigned on. We have to make sure we have a workforce to fill them. We saw where we could make in infrastructure that gave the private sector the stability to come into the market. The private specter spent more than Public Investment creating jobs, writer tax revenue, we could almost double our city revenues when i was mayor and cut taxes for those eight years. That is a remarkable and to be able to do. It is very simple. Emphasis on creating jobs. Hard on thed very Education System and make sure the strategic investment is right. All those things come together to create the right business climate. What is exciting for me as a freshman is that is where we are going at congress and that is what the president wants to do as well. Moving forward as we continue to work hard to find a solution on this very first step of health reform, that will lead us into a robust discussion about comprehensive tax reform, leading to a nice discussion on infrastructure investment. That will put us on the night have to economic stability with the reduction in the federal debt. Your children eighth generation in the community. What was it like when you were growing up . What did your parents to for a living . Grew up with a wonderful family and a Wonderful Group of friends. As a Stable Community that textile community was a back bone. My mother was an educator, a Foreign Language teacher and counselor. I was one of her students. Dad was in the biking business, he was a Community Community banker. It is neat and a lot of folks say that without his involvement the budget may not have happened. He sacrificed his a lot for the community. My setoud to come from of parents and a lot of the values that we hold dear we have been able to pass down to our four children. At home,13yearold his 16yearold daughter at home, 20yearold daughter that a serving in the navy and 23yearold son that is about to finish college and looks like he will be doing well, he is a great guy. Is your wife out here with you or in the district . She is in the district. She has a successful design business. Anddoes very well with bat has an incredible talent and work ethic. It is important to her to continue to grow that business. She has been well with it. Our children enjoy the community of west point and want to be a part of that. About whatometimes do call your home base, because you are away from your family a whole lot. You come to watch into washington, i look forward every week to getting home to the district. Being back in the state is wonderful. It is also important to stay connected to the district. Thats home, that is why i am here working for the people in the Third District of georgia. The children will come up when they can come up but most of the time we look forward to getting back into the district. When you are here in your haveng, as a freshman you a pretty good location here. We got lucky. During the lottery picks for the chairs for the offices my good friend from california picked number one and since he felt lucky i felt it would be a good idea to rub his shiny bald head and get one for myself and was able to draw number two. A great story. Theres a lot of camaraderie in d. C. I know a lot of folks back home tend to look at it and say it is one side against the other. Andre a very diverse nation we represent very diverse districts. Whether it is republican and democrat or democrat, it is difficult when you are trying to put a onesizefitsall policy. Theres a lot of diversity of opinions because we represent diverse basis. The thing that i can say is for the most part most of the men and women appear serving our good thoughts during their best to represent their districts. Congressman ferguson, thank you for your time. The ninth district of indiana, what did you do before coming to congress . Renovated and repositioned old manufacturing facility. Taking the wrestling old facilities and turned it around, readability rehabilitating this. We are leaving this, the live event at the center for national interests, their discussion on the influence of russia and u. S. Russia foreign policy. Very accomplished quite ,nowledgeable experts on russia a variety of institutional perspectives. The second question which we are asked in asking, what does america need .
