Where women seem to get more attacks online, i recently did a cartoon after the gaza bombings where so many children were killed. I really did think it would be controversial. I was criticizing the Israeli Government and it was an animation i did for the washington post. It was for a monday morning publication. I sent it in sunday night not thinking about it, it was covered, i didnt hear anything. All of a sudden midweek, i started getting these emails that are not just you are an idiot. We are talking stuff women dont want to hear. Really bad stuff. I thought what is this . Ive never gotten things like this. Come to find out my Editorial Page Editor was getting phone calls from special interest groups, jewish groups, plaining it was antisom antisemetic. That was sobering. I was appalled about that. I wrote a blog about it because it was not acceptable. Im not going to sit here and be called certain names and described certain activities to me because i am a woman and you dont agree with what i said. Its a bad development, yes. On that high note sorry. Thank you all for coming. We hope you enjoy and stay for the rest of the conference. Please drive safely. [applause] on this weekends newsmakers, American EnterpriseInstitute PresidentArthur Brooks is our guest. He talked about the upcoming election of a new house speaker, the 2016 president ial race, and the idea of conservatives finding Common Ground with president obama. Conservatives need to come together around thinking about the ways the president is doing good things and supporting what he is. A lot of what he does is a bad idea in my view. I think many of the things he does are really misguided but i think his motives are generally very good about trying to help people and we should look at the cases where things are right and think great, lets get behind that and thats where we can make progress and thats what we do. I cannot speak for the conservative movement but i can for the and my colleagues. What are some examples of something where conservatives should say obama is in the right place here . May, we did a panel at Georgia State university on poverty with the president. Was part of it as well. A fascinating discussion, at least for me. I dont know if it was for the rest of america but i did learn a lot. We do come together around approaches for helping the working poor. If it were just me and president obama making policy, we would pass an expansion of the earned income tax credit for single men we could actually get that done. Criminal Justice Reform is another area. We probably find our poverty will be different than the president s but we all agree we do need some criminal Justice Reform and part of it is philosophical. Its a philosophical agreement. Incarcerated men are never treated as any sort of asset to the country and thats a problem. Its a moral problem is what it comes down to. What are we doing so people can reenter into society . What are we doing so we are not locking people so much for nonviolent crimes and at the same time, how are we looking at people were incarcerated in need to be incarcerated and looking at the origins of this behavior as opposed to having either a amount because all about racism or exploitation or the right wing ideology of
