Good evening. I am not here because i am a north carolyn ann or an expert on the specific subject at hand and i am here because the heritage that the folks represent and the tradition that their hard work and guts will come in the wake of. I am here because the staples that i am ready to say were basic to this state and that heritage is basic to this wonderful work. And truly wonderful work that jay smith and mary had been doing on behalf of the institution that so many of us know and love. And so many of us have been fearful going through down without a peep. And names of course are frank porter graham. And terry sanford. And bill bradley. And all of whom believe a major point of an institution was not to serve itself but to serve the ideas within it. That it to say that there was not enough to go by the building that have you to salute what it meant. I got here because bill friday. We had worked together on the night Intercollegiate Athletics that was ran and financed. And i said. I dont know what i will do when i retire into he said come to chapel hill. Into i said you got the it. It came. It was wonderful to be in the place that is was admired for so long. One day he said to me as we were worried about the meaning of hiring a bigtime coach who immediately had discovered to his surprise of course that what had to him before was happening to him here which was some of his outlying an add junction assist and the were doing funny things with the players and access to money he said. You know. I was talking to a young woman who is here in the university who seems to know some things that are very disturbing if true. And i told her well i cant do too much to help. Why not go over to talk to the folks in the South Building and the Administration Building and it was mary willingham. And i did not think a great deal about that at the time. Exempt for i think that bill friday were telling me it must have a substance i worried as so many of us were about the indication of not much proof that all is well. And also as a sort of member of the faculty will go from timetotime to the meeting of the Faculty Council because among other things it is away to find out or should be what is the hear of the academic enterprise as well as the administration. And there i discovered one thing that is was going on was if your name was jeff smith and you got up and said prophet i can things about sporting you may have been an immediate pry yeah because were you. And one thing that i would tell but when jeff spoke was that people turned their head. And not to listen. But to somehow or another try by moving by not listening that what he was saying would go away. They were not partners at this particular moment he can cement that they were aiming for finding end. Jeff smith and mary should be educate nod matter what they were called and the university should say face up to that which they have failed to do. In the way of which would restore the integrity which was obvious and had to interest in creating a certain program. I had been in public life in one way or another, for a long time. And i was shocked to discover just how disgustingly incapable the leadership is what doing what happened to be done. And step up to the plate. Saying that we would mess up and we would clean it up. There was a reporter in here. That discovered how little the university wanted to talk about that which was obvious. There are people i would make up a name richard nix only. Pretend that the press is an enemy as opposed to what was did not with with the enemy. And it took a long time for this to undo itself. And i got madder and madder. I believed so much in the place that i had not grown up. And i got the opportunity to get this. Now. I never actually have been involved in a bad situation. Not only confronted hose were as with married. And prosecuted by those that would best be described as i wont do the. Jeff as essentially smeared them. And that their day. Came with such stunning clarity. And that which they had been warning of or claiming for a while was now validated by the universitys own money. Not because that one report finished this story. But because it made it impossible to pretend that the story was alive. In fact it made tim possible toying more that people in high places had been lying at the university and some of them could not stop lying even then. That is enough. Have i been told by mary. I could not go 20 minutes and i think that i am ready have. So if you. It is a good reid. And an it a scary read if by north carolina. And if the states. And the university. And 3 is a reminder that ed win burke was correct and the cliche is true. The triumph of silence of the good. And the faculty. Unc was largely within the category of the silence of the lambs. And the administration was largely in the category of if i just close my eyes it will go away. This book will tell you oh you it happened. And some ideas that they had about how it would be kept from happening again. And i cant tell you how proud i am of the both of them frank porter graham. And bill friday would have been so this is a great pleasure for me to introduce both of them. [applause] some teams we change our names because we like to do that because we do not want people to know who we are. I still am mary. And this is i have known him only as jay. But maybe have you changed your name receiptly. Is that true . What happened chapel hill. And how and why the administrative and faculty leadership failed to provide that leadership so long. 2010. And 2014. So will you find the details in the book buchlt really. We think that. The book is something greater itself. The scandal that we believe is part of the emblem attic of what is with wrong with big Time College Sports at the moment. How an Academic Institution would be coopted by a big time athletic machine and the educational consequences for the athletes themselves when that happens and how it will happen. And how pervasive. It will become. And how everybody will be affected by it. And learns to stay silent. Go the other way or actively to fascilitate the maintenance of the system. You know the particulars, i am assuming. Many of you know the particulars about the actual course scam that was at the center of the particular manifestation of academic fraud. It occurred in the center of gravity for the fraud that occurred in a single department. Tragically and the department of africanamerican studies and wearing an Administrative Assistant and alongserving chair developed a course of actions and courses on the one hand and bogus lecture courses on the other hand that functioned as an independent study. And used the courses as far as we are concerned the vehicles of eligibility. Eligibility for the athletes that needed a break. And who were not particularly strong students or were not inclient today do the university work. Or for whatever reason of the maybe they were injured needed the time. They needed the time. And by passing them through the particular courses. Is it is torn to point out in the book that it was not the only department that was initial involved in bending or lowering or ignoring the academic standards. And there was plenty of other fact umenty and the departments that bent to the pressures that are invariably exerted by an athletic enterprise in big time sport uses. Courses and faculty philosophy. And geography. Of the and a few other place thats offered course thats were free rides for athletes. And they used the fleet of courses to keep athletes on track. And academically. And on the field where coaches could use their physical laborers. We hoped actually to show you a couple of graphics that would illustrate how it worked for the individual athletes. When we put them on the screen. They will not use them. We will talk briefly. I will talk briefly before turn it over to mary about a couple of individuals who have experiences that show the system really hitting on all cylinders. How it worked and functioned and how academic counselors and the Academic Support Program of unc exploited the loopholes for the purpose thats we have mentioned. The individuals one of the most famous agent leetsz in unc history whose transcript for us is it is public. So we can talk about that. Are there any. Thank you. Thank you for your help. And dan cane and acknowledgements. And that pride. Thank you. The with the fact. That phantom transcript apparently. We were going to show you that it is a couple of thing about it. And at the end of the this issued semester and the residents of unc. The gpa was. 57 he was rocking it. Not doing too well. And we will have a 1. 57 gpa in or to have athletic participation for the upcoming season. In unc routing him to a 11 classes out of the next 17 courses. 8 of the 11 were paper classes and guess what he did really well. Did he rally well in the classes. And this actually happened a checkered career that he would have. Fueling below the eligibility bar. And the course of the summer by taking a few of these paper classes. Now more disturbing case perhaps. And occurred about alias of register chapter 7 of the book found itself with a lower gpa after the first two semesters. In fall semester. And flunked facing an uphill climb and the academic counselors the first summer after his first year in residents got very creative. They found the easier math class that he failed to get through. He had it removed from the transcript. And from this they found him in a paper class. And by julius. And most brilliantly. They persuaded Debby Crowder to schedule the instudy this sl irregular. And threehour or other course. The problem is that he would need a lot of hours and high grades but he could not register for nine hours. If he had done that he would need the approval the dean they didnt want dans looking and scheduled a twohour study for register instead of 3. And guess what . He rock it had. And he got an a minus. He have too up over the eligibility bar. And the feel in the fall. Never graduated however. Never played in the nfl. And the case is much more egregious as far as we are concerned than the Julius Peppers case. At least he made his money. And made it to the nfl. And the experience. Representative of so many athletes. Nothing. No education and didnt get the name called nothing. His experience as far as we are concerned tip identifies athletes that are basketball and football players. In unc and across the country. And what happened was egregious and singular. And awful. Thingsly happen everywhere. And all of the pressured. And they are working the otherhour works. And often in the universities. And not prepared for the work so counselors will find them ways to keep them alive and to keep them a float. They learn that the inrusts and so on are part of the athletic machine. That is something that he would have in the firsthand and seven years in the accurate digit support program. We would play a math game with how many credits that the young folks men mostly in the basketball and football needed to be eligible. With what they needed and it was just gone this week an eligibility. And not really about the education at all. But all about being an athlete. And athlete first. And being a student. Maybe. Second, third or force forth that is the system. Carolina and the schools. In particular across the country. And we know now that we are hearing from people that are getting into the conversation nationally. And jack. The Athletic Director of notre dame has joined the conversation this week. Saying that we would have to talk about you know. Really semi proi pro. The profits. Of athletes for basketball and football. And who are watching right now on march madness. And would you have to ask yourselves while they are away for the 15week semester form weeks in the semester that the mandated by caa and institutions for fulltime hours. And you have to ask yourself. Could we do that . Could we do the 12 hours of academics and the grueling schedule that they have . Grueling 18 to 22yearolds. And looking around the room that maybe someone you have the children in the age. Bringing them into carolina. Before the first year. We would put them right away. Into the type of boot camp where they are to take classes and to have athletic training. And with folks. And a couple of weeks when we visited are being awaken at 2 00 in the morning. To eat three peanut and butter jelly sandwiches to gain weight. I heard the stories in caroline a so we are doing a lot of work with the young men to get them ready. And the first season in the fall. They are not getting a college experience. And you are suppose to go to college. The first semester to get to know the campus. And no where the parties are. And the professionals are. And friends would be. Classes and inform grab something to eat. And to watch film. To go to practice. And study hall and on and on and on and they are exhausted and tired grueling. They do this because they love their sport. For many, many years, they are the guy. Of and or or the gal that we have sports like Womens Basketball too. And for the most part. We talked about athletes. Profits. The book touches on many of the olympic sports as well. And the sport in carolina will pay for other sports. So we do have to look at it. And talk about separating this out this. Is all different. Yet the ncaa lump its up into one category of the college sports. I wonder if we can show them the few figures that are interesting to show. You will find numbers in the book. What is really interesting. About the particular lineup of the 18 athletes that took multiple paper classes and earlier 1990s is that if you you probably cannot see them. If you study care agree. The gpas that were earned in the regular courses, will you find here. Other courses. 19452 2. 016789 you will see that a lot of the guys that had gpas under 2. 0 are in parallel at least. In danger of falling. And if you look at how they were helped by the multiple course thats they took here in the blue couple. They are in the high 2 and hes a the low 3s. They are getting bs, b minuses b pluses. As, and a minuses and there was a b. What happens is that. When you combine a lot of low performing courses is that it will even out okay in the end and will you get your gpa above the flesh hold where it will need to be. Even i cant see this very well. So there are other courses outside. And you can see that you can see how the courses functioned and what is so striking about this is that they were the first 18 players that were sent to julius on more than one occasion. They realized that he was handing out gifts. And they sent players to him. And time and again to get the gifts. Gifts elevated the gpa to where they would need to be. Here you can see the actual paper class advantage for the gpa. Again. I realize that you cannot see these very well. But number of the paper classes taken and you can see one person. A lucky soul would take 18 paper classes. And 18 paper classes and the gpa and all other classes 1. 56. Dismal. Clearly not eligible. Had it not been for all of the paper class thats got his gpa back to 2. 3. Or semi respectable 2. 3. This is a sample of what we came a woulds. In our approval of the course records. So the point of this is. That these guys did not get real educations and they were suborred nature today the needs of the athletic program. And the teams. Coaches and their own athletic desires too they were denied the real educations. One of the problems with the front door that we will admit that the students and athletes. And particular that they are not able to do the course work. So set it up for cheating. And because what are we going to do with a guy who is reading even though the provost will disagree with me. The statistics forked education will tell us that our black hales in particular 10 in the country. As it is are reading this at grade level 8th grad id and our football and basketball players are coming to us and not be paired for the rigor of colleges. White males their numbers are not much better. A little bit better. So there is a literacy crisis in the country. We are not dealing with that. That is a separate issue. It is a k12 problem with the Public School system much and the bringing in athletes that doch meet. With airline caroline a and the application thats we will take 4,000 students. Highly competitive. We have recommend ages that are floating around congress right now. But. If you are going to bring the guys in. Women too. Lets be honest. And can bring them along for a real education if it will take whatever it will take and the contractor agreement says that next change for the world class education. What we will show and cheat and what we will see all over the country. A great case study. Maybe that is not happening. And real education. So many of them. And watching them on gameday as consumers of college sports, right . With the carolina and staff. Of and the africanamerican studies department. In all of this. And all the way complicity in all of this and there is a great example in the book. But it is like. For an athlete. So this is an idea of how controlled they are. In this is an example with the football. That a paragraph that we would read as a read specialists that would i have me read to you. So you can see the grade level that you are reading at. But quickly. The stark expression of the effort to control the players bodies and minds. To command their loyalty to the machine. Is found and reveal in the documentary film School College suppose. If you have not seen that. You will knee to look it the up. Leverage against them when needed. And posted on the door on the locker room is an infant infant. See that is the word. Say it again. The sign that identifies misbehaving individuals and reminds them who the master is. I will not discuss the following players that are selfish. Lazy. They have inform could not cement of the team. They cannot help to you win football games. Can you believe that . Can you believe that . The existence of the sign makes a mock reef College Players being students first and not only offensive that they would allow bullying and the intimidation of the aspiring professionals within the student body but coach left side threaten to brand the players and ego tifts in the eyes of the nfl scouts. Percent peck tichl employers and does that seem to be wrong to anybody . This is not what college is supposed to be what is all about. Of in the classroom we would not make a list on the board of the students that are failing tifts that should not get into the law school or some not get into medical school. We would never do that yet the guys are hopes and dreams are stattered each and every day. This is such a controlled environment. And it is really an issue. A civil rights issue as taylor tells us the social justice issue. And we really hope that cheated can become apart of the National Conversation. It is all about the unc scandal, yes, but also about the education of the athletes and the future of big time college spores. It was a privilege forme to be able to write this book with jay smith. And it was a privilege to take this journey with all of and you for the support that i have got end dan cane. He could not have done it without you. There are many so people in the room that made this happen i think that in the long run it will really make a difference, we will be on the right side of history. Yeah. Yeah. So we would be happy to answer any questions we love q a. We love it. We love to be strumd. Thank you. [applause] you mentioned. This. Obviously. This is the way that it has to start. No question of that the poor young fell as are coming into the Big University which such standards that are demanded of them. They just as a nba and nfl. And that is the only route that they have to be seen by the scouts it is my opinion that there should another route of the two bodies. So that they can get there to earn the money that they are entitled to. I believe that. Sovp two separate systems is what the gentleman is suggesting so profit sports. A semi pro type of league if you will. And will is a talk about that. I mean even though. Power keg five. I think that they will blow it up. But all fighting right now. Over what to do and who will get paid. And how much they will get paid and the cases are changed. You know. The future of all of that there. Is money involved right now. There is an antitrust iesh. And is complicated. You know. In as jay says. We have solved complicated Business Days deals every day. We need to come up with a solution for this. You know we could. A lot of people are making money off of the backs of the guys. And continuing to make the money so. I would be interested to see how they treated you. With and i dont think that he paid enough attention to it. Should he cole have made herself look really good by thanking and you hiring you back into the information. The board of governors and trustees are really in charge. And i believe that to be true i dont know how much control she is the face of the university at this point and the first female you noept of chancellor that we have had in 220 years so. This is exciting. She was at the mediation. Made an appearance. And was trying to do the best that she could. And had a best team of toernlz and also would like to get this behind her. I really wish like i had wished for tloerp that there is was more support in the leadership big money. And boosters. You know. Is complicated. It is one person and the whole system. Look we lost ross. President ross. So a much repair work will need to be done. I dont think that we can do that with her. We just. In the air. [laughter] it is easier for . He to. Say. That wish i would dean would have behaved davely. I know that they should have behaved. Should are are been putting the heat on the administration all along. And they had not done that there is no excuse for that and and in all of the scandals all over the country. How many Admissions Directors or the commit other hes were held accountable. How many athletic administrators or faculty members or academic administrators were held accountable how many have lost their jobs. The only ones that he would say are losing their jobs are coaching and accurate democratic support people. And many of the same kids were not admitted. With their transcripts. I will not name the university but we did not have the same problems that they have at carolina. Nobody has been held accountable in the upper levels and the others are hiring the attorneys. And they will have to answer to those above them. And and a particular school. We had an admissions. Period. That is true. Absolutely. The admissions director. The faculty. Committee that is in charge of the special and athletic representatives. And i know. That i am not marginal he graduated from seminaries and ministries. Sure. Sure. Coming to the school of business they are not prepared. And so they spend the whole i think that this is a you will about a month to six weeks before school starts. And in a boot camp. Private sector. And i dont think that it is anything erradically different from what is being done for the development. And people in Business School settings. Have you looked at it carolina to see if there is from my experience. And 2010. And went into the you know the college of arts and graduation adviser and somebody thought that it was a great idea to give total access to records. Imagine that. Maybe the community college. Traditional students but that the began of the academic preparedness with our athletes for us. When i could see was so much wider and my comment really is that we do not know all of this until there is transparent see. We never disclosed what our athletes and transcripts look like. We hide. That is what we need to do to protect that. We will identify wedge. And talk about. And tran scripts. And if we have a pile of them. We can see so again to not pick on my friend from notre dame. But in notre dame we do not have the problem. We graduate. 98 of football and the basketball players. We will do it right. I said. I would love to believe that show me the transcripts. That is the only way that it would be true or not. We want to see if students were put in past classes and clustered together. The same major. And independent studies maybe online classes and that is the only way that we will prove that the young people are getting a real education that we promised them. If they are that far behind we need to be part of the deficiencies. We are all for this. We retoo. And in the third row back yes. You mentioned before. That both coaches took to the fall. What is the basketball coach take a fall here . I this i that is he playing a game right . We cant call them up but i think that you know. Eventually we are going to see what the ncaa comes back in. There is more coming. And there is more happening behind the scenes. And i do believe that the changes are coming. I certainly think that the ncaa has some rules that may be affective one is making a boat load of money on the backs of young people. We will protect the money. Brand at all costs they will make the technical decisions and get kids registered in courses and declare majors and so on. So the coach will say. That it was not me. And it was a layer of the bureaucrats that answered to me. And talked to me. Every day. But it is their fault. And not mine. So this is built right in. Yes. Within is that Julius Peppers was gift and played basketball another specific that you may or i not be able to respond to is that i can remember Rashad Mccann announcing being in the Basketball Program was like being in president only. I am curious to if his transcripts were public information. He is one of the few players that were made allegations and had been for vocal about his experience and denial. And coach tz quoted him as not lying. And he was wrong. I goes he is that there is a fine distinction there. Is there anything public about Rashad Mccanns actual transcripts. And the tran scripts were shown on espn outside the liens and they were made public so. We have all now seen the transcripts. And he is telling the truth he was there on 2005 and was failing most of the regular core classes so he would tell great stories. And i think that. He is playing overseas right now. I do believe that we will be hearing more from him and his stories. I think that they will be fascinating there. Is a Bad Reputation for being the character. But just like all of us. When you sit down at the table, and if you get to know us. We are not exactly as we will seem. And is he certainly one of those people. I want to say that you allude to one of the great undiscussed scandals within the scandal. By the way. Fact that Julius Peppers at the end of the first year. Which is of 2. 0 gpa. And the awful performance academically. And in the first year. The fact that after the first year the basketball coach would decide that it was a good idea to get them on the Basketball Team too. And the Athletic Director would allow it, as did everybody else that this is a scandal. And it should never have happened. And how is this possible . I this i that the man had his hands up for a very long time. Did have you a chance to interview the players or maybe coaches . And if so what did they say. A lot of the stories are from my own experience and working with the young we did to interviewing. And athletes that were talked about. In the staff that we talked to. We did not talk to any coaches. So both. We certainly had heard outside of the lines and lockly. Head heard from this last report that they did not know necessarily about what happened behind the scenes in the accurate democratic support units. Helped with clearing the athletes for tournaments. Before you go. You are looking at the crans striments. Letting the coaches know. Who is eligible. And where we are Going Forward with all of that. Yes, yes. Would i like to thank you. As well. Thank you. I wonder the if you talked about wayne waldon in the book and the implications. Yes. So you know speak of me now. [laughter] so some of them do wish that i was dead right now so should she wanted to help them in the way that seemed easier classes that she could for her. And after going through the year or two and experimenting with the course thats deb other. We believe that they they would take the system for earlier 90s. So in the general colleges. So there was 126789 126789 and most peoples transcripts are not littered with the ease your classes, you know. I could mash that up foreclosure today [laughter]. Whether isolate with the sports and that is true. That is true too. It is all about money. Coming down to money. What proposals or what did you have relative to police and a source. We have had conversations in the past few weeks about how we rally what it evolving for this. We are following everything nationally. And talking with arnie duncan and the sectretary of education. We are in the comingizations with these people. Is it really possible to connect academics to athletics . In other words, there is an. You have to be academically eligible which you know. Maybe will not answer the booster question pr say. If we make a connection go away. And if we say. You can be a College Student and also play division one profit sports. We will separate those and we will pay you. We are going to give you the bend fits. Maybe you can be an employee. And as the Northwestern Football Team is suggesting and nrb will rule. Maybe some of the booster issues will go away. Then scholarship issue will go away. All of the perks. All of the perks will go away. So um. You know. Is hard to really. It is a complex business problem that will have to be solved. If you are getting to the environment issue. And money course. I happen to think it is fruitless to control it. It is better to serve the relationship that is my pnl. But mary is getting there. I think. Yeah what . [laughter] the immense problem. In the big Time College Sports. Where would you locate yourselves on the spectrum you have the optimistic. And the pessimistic so far as. Significant movement to the solution. I am optimistic. Oyama in it to win it as the ncaa says. We are riding a wave right now. That the doors, as held who fought the case and is involve the west we vf to take it all of the hinges and all the way down and all the way down from that. And big money. Corrupts. There is a lot of contracts that are out for three years and the conversation is alive. And people are not getting involved for the first time ever. You are as optimistic as i am . New york is he not. They could breveng about significant change. He is peshly the lawsuit that will take aim at the problem that we talk about in the book. The educational defrauding of athletes, we will see. We will see how it goes. If you read the book this. Is a downer of the book honestly. But. Coming to the conclusion we will try to sound some funny optimism there. That was my pardon part. And i dont questions that we will have time for. Who is next. I dont know if waving at me seems to would. I dont know. If you are not getting your job back. Do you think that they should welcome you back. So i dont think that the differences are reconcilable yet. But i do believe that some day they will be and i hope also and i am optimistic that some day i would be invited back. They will be carolina in april. In a classroom. When the story will get legs and the National Conversation will continue. And the court case left side move forward. I think that we will perhaps recognize me. And as somebody belong. Aim a tar heel. Always. We raised our kids on the campus. And my three block from the carolina inn. And they love it here. And and i will wait it out and i have a few good years left. I have seen two people with hands up for quite a while. Yes. My question has to do with was there a moment of which. And that you could explain over the moment or did this occur over a longer time that you realized i have got to act. What that was like. It is an easy question. Actually. Would you say that mary . It was immediately in the wake of the martin report we were fuming much the martin report. The governor jim martin released a report in 2012 where he declared that it was an athletic scandal. Limit today one department. And we were on the phone with each other within seconds and i seem to recall. And he was in the meeting. If you see that. And if you watch the documentary schooled. Will you see her. Crushed by the announcement of the governors i had a very nice jacket on. [laughter] i was really upset. Yeah, i know that i was crushed. And i watch it had online. And i was knocked breath less by the announcement. And by the enltz of the day. We are writing a book. It was clear to us at that point. That the university had no intention. They were going to keep a tight lid on it that they could. And this story was so important. And before that. 2012 ahead of the famous tweets where everything blew up. And impermissible benefits with a party in miami that he tweet about the and like some kids should not be able to go to a party and get free drinks. How insane is that. During that investigation. I remainlied silent except for that i talked to the General Council and in 200. Pretty much talked with them for 2 1 2 hours and they ignored me. What i said. And in 2011 i started to speak with dan cane off the record and 20126789 when i was talking to him i went to president fridays funeral. And i remembered that i was feeling really bad when i listened to them memorialize president friday and how important it was to him. I said to my husband chuck. Have i to do something. He said start a blog. That seems to be the popular thing i can right now. It went viral. And then. Dan said that they are off to the races we went. And i met jay around that same time. And i personally. And the Athletic Reform Group had my back. And with all of the hate. The faa nz are fan attics have i had. Many know it will is the truth. We have seen it ourselves. And people tell me they want to do something as well. And i happen to be the right placement right time. Great report for my husband and family and was able to keep it up. I am a reading specialist. And a learning spishlt. I will tell series. Is he the writer. It has been a great great journey. And i have learned a lot when you have many students that were failing. Stews are pass, what are the course thats they are taking right now. We cannot see the tran scripts anymore cut us off. And they cut him off too. They cut them off imagine that. To raise a couple of years ago. So the admitted fewer. Fufr the at risk students. This i will be getting numbers wrong. 25 were admitted in 2008 whereas 2012 there was just 9 so they do seem today have tight ended up the standards. And the danger of course. This is that it may be a temporary measure of the while or anybody is look that can they have adopted no hard and fast rules about admissions Going Forward. And so we will be vigilant. Watching emissions and what courses are they take something we really do not know we cant tell we are not close enough to the ground any long for know what they are doing but there have been a couple of academic casualties. Right . The football team. The first time of the history of we lost four players. Right . Three or four players. Right academically. Ineligible. So my goodness. That is tougher for them. Last question last question getting the sign. Again i appreciate everything you have undone. My question is the cult that you remember will allow this. Why have we not seen more professors tenured professors step up and to actually take a stand on this. Via nephew. He is getting a great education and tarnished. And facultiy. And supposed to be the guarantees of integrity of the institution. Supposed to be the watch dogs for the sorts of offenses. And the fact that we are not marching on. This is a mystery. I do not understand it. It is true that the faculty as a collective has not mastered very much energy. Do i not have a good answer for it. There is a lot of reasons why the faculty is retisent and the organizational deef yenls. If have you the chance to look it up. It is hamming in the universities and an industry. Across the count wreechlt he will go along this. Is apart of the culture right now. If is sad yeah. Yeah. That is one of the factors. Absolutely. It is. Sure. Nobody wants that. And everybody just wants to be left alone there is a startling statistic that i came across at the time of the faculty rally. And a couple of weeksing a in front the south build that can 19959 of the unc. Not on ten youred track anymore. And the majority. Are different from ten years ago. When Something Like 8 0 or more. Faculty had that. So the status of the faculty will be under assault at the moment. And all over the across higher education. One of the comings kwensz of that is that the faculty will be less willing to challenge the administrators. So we will all need to be concern about the that. Thank you to quail ridge for all of the people here for having us. They did a great job thank you very much. Thank you very much. [applause] our authors will be signing in the back of the store. We want to thank each and every one of you for coming to night i hop you come back four for the next event. Thank you. Thank you all for coming. Thank you. [applause]
