Feeling well. The plane was eventually given the allclear to leave. Yesterday, hazmat crew board ad plane in cana after a passenger made a joke about having bowl la. Look at those pictures. Well these may be overreactions but people are worried about traveling amid the ebola crisis. With more on this, dr. David is a maati, member of fox news medical ateam. Dr. Samadi, thanks for being here. Should people be concerned about traveling . There should be absolutely a concern. You know, the weve been trying to calm things down and basically saying not to panic. Cdc is coming up with numbers that are of concern. If you believe today we hit 4,000 deaths in west africa, 8,000 people have been diagnosed, we certainly will reach somewhere 20 to 30,000 numbers. When they talked about 1. 4 Million People would be diagnosed from this by january there are concerns. Gerri the numbers are climbing, real numbers, number of debts but also the expectations and from what i read, the number of people catching disease and getting ebola is doubling every three weeks. As absolutely true. You also have to understand there is a huge cultural differences in west africa. Whether rid wall of burying bodies and contain just and people can get the virus from them contagious. To the food they are eating over there. Were not in control. America is doing a great job sending Health Care Doctors over there, sending tries, spending a lot of money there. Having all the Ebola Centers well be able to contain it over there. Gerri i know that is the hope. I also know that the fear is that it will come to our shores one way or another. One way possibly, through people coming into this country on airlines. I understand that you favor shutting those airlines down, making sure we dont have people coming from the three countries in west africa impacted into this country. Youre almost alone among Health Care Professionals saying this. Why do you believe that . Look, you have to explain to me why the nbc reporter got ebola. You also have to tell me when duncan came, that should be studied as a case report, duncans case gerri the man in dallas. Thats right. He said when he was exposed to all these ebola virus, right . Had fever of 103 in emergency room. We dropped the ball. We let him get away with this. Left with antibiotics. You have a nurse in spain touch ad glove maybe contaminated to her face and got ebola. If you can explain to me how these three occasions happened, then i would say lets play a fair system. As a medical doctor, gerri, dont shut down entire airlines. Food can go in. Supplies can go in. Health care doctors can go in, no casual leisure flights out of west africa for a wedding party. Gerri jfk starts screening tomorrow. My understanding the other four airports start screening on monday. You say that is nice but it wont solve the issue . If someone shows up in jfk, perfectly fine, inspect them, no fever and all of sudden puking and vomiting over jfk if were ready to take care of this it is okay. We need to rotech the epidemic and until we have vaccines and monoclonal antibodies and zmapp, ease off on flights out there have until were prepared. Gerri i make the comparison to sars. Back in 2003 this virus killed, im trying to remember the numbers, many people, mostly in asia but a big Economic Impact here. Global economy loss of 33 billion. To the u. S. Economy, 7 billion. Respiratory airborne virus, very, very dangerous. And the Airline Industry suffered greatly because people just did not want to fly. 3. 7 loss for north american airlines. My question to you, are people going to stop traveling . No, look we dont want airlines to suffer but at the same time the cost of taking care of one of these patients when they come in, the burden on health care and fact that it can become epidemic is tremendous. With sars, cdc did an amazing job. There were guidelines on internet reading about it. Every pilot, every steward des had mask and gloves, they were prepared. Im not sure were prepared today for this. Maybe in few months were prepared amounts we speak today we need little more work. We need more antibodies. We have vaccines in the pipeline. Gerri still a long way to go. I want to continue the comparison to sars for just a second. I think there was Something Like 100 deaths with sars. We already outpaced that very dramatically. 700 people died from sars back had in 2003. We are making comparison which was the recently most deadly pathogen that attacked people out there. My question isnt, do we want people to stop flying, ply question because of hysteria youre already seeing in video we showed you tonight, do you think people will stop traveling . We, certainly it will take some toll. I think people will be wary of all the contained airlines. If somebody will have diarrhea, gi symptoms, it can spread and can affect people. Here is the samadi formula. First you eidfy. If you see anybody with those symptoms in west africa, you have to think ebola. Isolate them quickly. If you isolate them over there, that is better, gerri before they go to the other countries. Gerri much better. Improve and treat them aggressive and expect anybody else that has been involved. Those are the four is you have to remember. I think take the war to west africa until we get prepared. Gerri focus on it there instead of here. Dr. Samadi, thanks for being here. Thank you for having me. Gerri programing note for you now, coming up all next week it will on our users guide to health insurance. It is open enrollment season. Right around the corner what is new for 2015. How to maximize benefits and minimize costs. On monday we start with how obamacare will impact the coverage. Moving on, troubling new information on the massive hacking of American Financial terms were telling you about. Fidelity, the mutual fund company, reportedly joining Jpmorgan Chase as among companies with customer information stolen recently. Fidelity is not saying what if anything was taken but it insists no accounts were broken into, no money stolen. For a firm managing nearly 2 trillion in Retirement Savings and investments for americans well, the latest news is cause for concern. But just like chase, fidelity is doing a terrible job informing customers what is going on of the they havent sent any emails, no phone calls. Not even anything on their website right now. For more on this, illinois attorney general lisa madigan, who is pushing for Financial Institutions Like Fidelity an jpmorgan to share a lot more information with consumers. Welcome to the show. Great to have you here. I want to hear first of all what kind of investigation are you doing, what are you finding out, how far along are you . Were just in the beginning of our investigation in the breach at chase. What were trying to find out really two things. One, what actual information was taken . Then a long longterm issue wile how was it actually breached . How was the information taken . Were security measures sufficient in place. First and foremost as you just said, gerri, were very concerned about what the information was actually taken. They have said it is user Contact Information but the 8k they released in addition it was also internal information related to those users. Nobody really knows at this point. What do they mean by internal information related to those users . So that is the question. Im getting stopped on the street. People are calling our office and theyre saying is it account information . Weve been told it is not but people still want to know what is that in if it isnt anything sensitive they should be able to come forward and tell us what it is. I think consumers deirv to know. Gerri i do too. They just havent been forthcoming, lets face it. Right. Gerri Jpmorgan Chase filed something with regulators. Nothing to consumers a lot of consumers, clients of that bank telling us theyre hearing absolutely nothing from the bank of the company is saying Something Else publicly but fidelity also not talking. That is what i find deeply concerning. Right. Gerri go right ahead. Well, it seems as if you have a great concern of for a lot of institutions where when these, you know, data thefts happen, they dont want to tell the public that information. For whatever reason. Gerri right. I think they have concern about their reputation. But the reality is, it is just the opposite at this point. People are really scared. Theyre fed up and theyre getting to be angry. You know we trust these companies with our personal information. We trust, you know, fidelity and chase with our money. And so we really want to know. It is our information. It is our money. Tell us exactly what happened. We dont want to compromise any investigations boeing on in terms of being able to tell who is it. Is it Russian Hackers . Coming from some other part of the world . Consumers need to be told what was actually taken so they can be on the alert. Obviously when information is taken, you really at much greater risk of any type of Identity Theft, phishing scams. People have to be given enough information to be on the alert for other financial impacts that can happen. Gerri lisa, greater amount of time there is from the breach to the time the public knows about it, the greater opportunity there is for consumers to be hacked. If you have no idea, you might respond to that phishing email in your email in box. I want to read fidelitys statement here. Here is what they said in response publicly. Let me be clear here. I dont think this is something they volunteered. A reporter had to call them to ask for comment. They say fidelity continues to deploy multiple layers of security to help protect the privacy of our customers. There is no indication fidelity Customer Account information, services or systems were affected. My question is this . What happened with chase people had their email addresses stolen. Im told that is a critical part of your identity. Very important. Why . Well, very important because once somebody has your email address they can start sending you fake emails. It is exactly the fishing scam problem youre talking about, where they will send you email. May appear to come from legitimate entity. May not be chase it comes from. They will ask you for more information. They will ask you for credit card numbers. Ask you for bank account information. Ask you for your Social Security number. If you give that to them, thinking legitimate company. Next thing you know youre open to all sorts of unauthorized charges or debits on the bank account. Youre open to fullblown Identity Theft where people open up accounts in your name, you dont know about it if youre not monitoring credit. I think what people across the country have to realize, unfortunately, if they havent already, is that there is really no information of ours being held by a bank, a corporation, government, a hospital that is safe at this point. You know. Every single of hour of every single day of every single week there are hackers trying to get into these databases. Even though the banks have long said and they probably do have some of the best security in the world, there are hackers that have been able to get into their systems. So you have to work under the presumption that somebody is trying to get access an probably has gotten access to your personal Financial Information and youve got to take precautions to watch over your accounts and credit at this point. Gerri lisa, i have to say, i think industry need to do a better job, full stop. I agree. Gerri have to tell us what is going on and do a better job protecting us. These big companies, theyre on their heels when it comes to this. Theyre behind the curve. I think we all need to go out to hire Russian Hackers. That is my solution. Thanks for coming on. Im not sure that is what we want to do. Thank you for having me, gerri. Gerri great to have you here. Financial companies are not only ones being targeted. Listen to this. Dairy queen says its Payment Systems were hacked. Those breaching the system may have gained access to customer names, credit and debit card numbers and expiration dates. Gerri uber the smartphone based car service app is making to meet the grade. They earned a f on Better Business bureau report. Here to weigh in Jonas Max Farris and fox news contributor. Welcome, jonas. You were spending last three minutes complain about uber. Oh, yeah. Gerri Better Business bureau has it right in your view. I will side on some of this, im a huge uber user. There are odd did is to al gore riches. Gerri dont tell me algorithms. Uber cost less than a cab. Base rate is very cheap. They dont have to buy medallions like taxi drivers. They can cut out middle markets like new york, boston, miami. That is base rate. When you request a car, very onen surge pricing, one, two, three, four times. I did four times multiple, turn 10 ride into 40 ride or 100 ride 10 times multiple. They make you type it in. Dont notice. Dont do the math. Gerri your friend out drinking. They complain to the Better Business bureau because they got 100 complaints. A lot of complaints a huge company operating. Gerri rare for Better Business bureau to give a company an f rating. Not what they do all the time. Some of the complaints i will put to you to see what you thought. Charges that i was told i was going to get on website is different than what i was actually charged in the car. There is no Customer Service. You try to Call Customer Service you get no response. Your reaction . I just dealt with their Customer Service it week. They have no Customer Service on the phone. That is their policy their email Customer Service is spectacular. Literally, within eight minutes you get this long response written by somebody with high english degree writes better than i do. No typos, formatted well. That side of their business is very good. Yeah, there are some oddities make you question on of the stuff that goes on there. Gerri i will read some of the complaints that Better Business bureau categorized. In my case i was charged double than what was quoted. Tried do contact them three times. Got no response. And this, uber charged my card 710. For a ninemile drive. Without notifying me of surge charges in place at time of my ride. Wont refund. Question they were not notified. You type it in. I dont think they make a lot of money off base. Gerri really not. Two or three four multiple gets highly lucrative. A pricing scream were not used to. Most taxis are fixedrate by government. Lowgrade card ride but used to same rate. Its a market model that has some good sides and bad sides. If you can afford it, there will be a car waiting for you in a rain tomorrow, unlike taxicabs in new york have a fixedrate f youre not paying attention you will get hit with 100 ride what you think should be a 20 ride. Gerri or 710 ride. Thanks for being on here with a uber user. We want to help you and your money during a rollercoaster week of stocks. Consumer outrage over sell phone bills, ridiculous fees and taxes are out of control. Well break it down and get your reaction. Stay with us. Gerri well here is a sobering fact. More than a third of your cell phone bill, a third may be taxes and fees. A new report from the Tax Foundation says youre paying a disproportionate amount in taxes and fees for the cell phone compared to almost any other product or service you buy. And, if you have one of those family plans, youre even worse off. Lets look at all this breaks down. So we got a cell phone bill from somebody on our staff no less, to take a look how these fees work. First start with the charges for service. You will pay for your service. Our friend is on the family plan. 60 bucks a month for that. For messaging paying 30 a month. For unlimited data she is paying 30. For two lines she is paying 13a month. Is that her monthly tab . No it is not. She has a lot of other things she has to pay for. Administrative fee, county gross receipts surcharge. What is that . Mta telecom surcharge. It goes on and on. This list is long, and at the end of the day she is paying, well, a fair chunk of change for that amount. And the whole bill comes to 157. So youre paying 138 for service. You pay another 20 bucks in fees. Somebody has to explain it. Were bringing scott from the Tax Foundation. Scott, welcome to the show. This looks like just a big money grab by states and local governments. Yeah. Well, you know we produced this report every year talking about cell phone taxes and fees. People are really surprised. You can pay on average, americans are paying 1 on their tax bills federal, state, local, municipal taxes that all stack on top of each other. 1 . That is twice the amount of an average state sales tax. So these things can be really shocking. Gerri it is shocking. You know you dont even know what that stuff for. I even see the definition of what the tax is. And i still dont understand what were paying for it. Why is the government coming after these wireless customers. Well one of the problems is that you have got so many layers of jurisdictions that are able to take a piece out of your bill. There is at the federal level there is the universal service fund. That is over 5 . And then youve got statewide sales taxes. Ive got statewide utility taxes. Sometimes there are gross receipt utility taxes at local level. Munition faults want a municipalities want a bite of the action too. And everybody wants a piece of the pie but there is only so much pie. Gerri here in new york city, there are two taxes maybe three. I dont know how they get away with it. Lets look at states with highest wireless taxes and of course new york is among them. Washington state is big, right . Absolutely. Washington and nebraska are up at the top of the list. Those rates are you know, omaha, for example, they have state, local, federal taxes higher than 25 . Same situation in new york city as well. Lower end of the spectrum. Oregon which on average just an additional 1. 7 in state and local taxes and fees. They dont have a sales tax. That is the choice they made at the state level. So that can bring the rates down. Even in oregon they have additional taxes, that are only being applied to wireless. There are really no reasons for that. Gerri isnt it wireless customers will buy no matter what and theyre a cash cow . Nobody reads their bill and they really dont know what theyre paying for . I think the biggest problem is how many layers of government are taking the bites out of this bill like this. It would be really, really odd to people, if you told them, listen, there is an excise tax on beer at federal and state level. Thats true. But local, county, municipal levels and well charge them based on gross receipts of the company or, charge them based on Something Else. This is what is shocking to people. That is where the poor policy coming into play. So many multiplicative governments charging taxes on product. Gerri over and over again. My favorite fee is the customary fee. What does that mean . We charge it because it is customary. It is important to notice there difference between fees being charged by the company or fees coming from government entities. That is why i urge everybody to go on read our report. We break it down and talk about all different parts on your cell phone tax bill. Find it on Tax Foundation. Org. You see a nice map. Difference between the states. Gerri get mad all over again. Scott, thanks for coming on. Thanks so much, gerri. Gerri we want to know what you think. Here is our question tonight. Do you read your cell phone bill . Do you know what these taxes are . Have you seen this all before . Log on to gerriwillis. Com. Vote on the righthand side of the screen. I will share the results at the end of tonights show. Coming up an interesting legal debate over the rights of chimpanzees. Yeah. Stocks continued their rollercoaster ride after posting their worst day of the year yesterday. Its a dramatic shift from wednesday when the markets had the best showing for the year. Its a wild road. Weve got advice for your wallet with anthony principal of anthony consulting and the host of the radio show making money work. Jack how is a Senior Editor for a magazine. And is all is a Principal Financial group. Jack, ill start with you, 15 Straight Days on the dow moving 100 points up or more or 100 points down or more. Its a lot of volatility why is this happening . Investors are scared. Its slowing growth overseas. Some of it looks bonkers. You had chipped stocks that slammed in the u. S. Workday chips for appliances that sort of thing. All of a sudden intel is tumbling Micron Technology theyre tumbling. I think investors are reading too much. Gerri overreacting. Oh, yeah, here comes another downturn. For them maybe. I dont see it though. Gerri really showing its the fear gauge for wall street the professionals are afraid now. What do you tell your clients because youre getting phone calls from your clients . Im actually not getting phone calls. And what weve done is we set up these strategic plans. Bucket one is money now. Bucket about to is money soon. Bucket three is money later. Ira money. Retirement money. In order to stomach and deal with the turbulence now. People should have three years of some liquid if i and disposal cash on hand. In addition to their current income so they can ride out this turbulence and not make any emotional or bad decisions. Gerri you dont want to do that. Clients are sleeping like babies. Are yours . Pretty much. Trlz o it really depends on what type of client you have. Do you have transactional clients. We talk about Asset Allocation like bucket plans is a good analogy. What is the mindset of the investor. Theres a paper done by greg fisher the behavior of investment, the mentality of the investor. For example, from 2006 to 2010, that period of time, the s p did about 70 percent the average investor did like 1. 03. So you dont you got to understand what what are we trying to talk about here . Are we talking about transactional . Gerri i got to tell you the investment settlement is help me. Whats going on. Jack, how about you . One way to look at this, this is an opportunity. If there are stocks and sectors that are selling off, you might want to buy. You might. I wouldnt go guns ablazing. Its a broad market. Its up more than 180 percent from its low back in the financial prices, the s p. Some groups. Right . Auto suppliers auto suppliers have gotten slammed theyre down 20 percent. You know, heres a group when you look at car sales in the u. S. In september up 5 percent, in europe registration is up 6 percent, whatever economic slow down is happening, it doesnt seem to be affecting car demand. Gerri look inside these sectors, look inside these stocks and see what to do. I want to go to the other side of the scbeationz thats bond. We talked about pimco a lot of people running out of pimco right now. What do you tell people about the bonds side of the of their portfolio. What should they be doing . A lot of money has come out of the pimco bond fund. And i think there is a reaction and competitors are going to be sweeping up a lot of those dollars. A lot of those dollars havent been allocated yet so these competitors are still looking for those dollars. Theres an opportunity in fixed income, in the short duration, you want to stay short. Theres interest risk going on right now. Which adds to the volatility of the market, and people are concerned. Gerri anthony, to you i want to read you a quote from bill gross. He said its time to say byebye to fat returns. Returns are going to be lower than the double digits of the old days. Its too bad for janice, its too bad for investors. Do you agree with that . I dont know what context he meant that. I think Going Forward if you have a longterm approach to your portfolio, i think i cant say whether youre going to have double digits or not. What your goals are i have to say one thing, i dont want everyone to have a kneejerk reaction of what is happening in germany. A lot of talk about germany sliding into a recession. The chief economist in germany is not concerned. I want to put that out because a lot of my clients say that. But thats my reaction to that. Gerri thanks for coming on tonight. We appreciate your time. Now, time for the stories youre clicking on. Tesla unveiling a faster version of its sedan. And more safety features of the ceo elon musk alluded when the new all wheel drive version will go on sale or how much it will cost. The fights are already making it its way into the courtroom. Heres your consumer gauge with the numbers that matter to you. Stock market up 3. 1 percent right now. Gerri breaking news for you now in an sec filing series said kmart assistance has been breached. Kmart. Now, series which is the Parent Company says the data breach started in early september. The Security Breach was apparently caused by malware. Some customers and debit cards may have been comprised. Well bring more information as soon as we get it, but kmart is the latest retailers hit by cyber thieves apparently. Well get you more details. Yet another retailer in trouble with this. A new York Appeals Court weighing a case that would grant chimps legal personhood. Will this Monkey Business hold up in court . Paul, and bill a partner at frum kin law firm. Bill, what is legal personhood . Legal perch hood is being qualified under the law so you can avail some of the protections like habeas corpus to say that pat but human beings. It has to be a stretch of the law and of persons. If you look at science and technology and animals what they know, et cetera, its getting close to know that the dna and certain makeup of chimp an sees thats where it starts. With all due respect this is Monkey Business at its height. A person is not a person. A person is not a person. Pure and simple. They dealt with it in divorce cases. They want fido. And the court said its a chattel. In other words, its something you own. We may love our dogs, scpirchl do mine, but its something you own. Gerri whats the most convincing argument that these animal activists have. This is crazy to me. Human beings and then theres everything else. The way it works, i think the most convincing article is this, there are lower forms of animals such as lions, tigers, bears, you know, et cetera, that we know dont have the same acumen as chimps. Chimps have the same dna as human beings. They learn. They can communicate. They have cognitive abilities. They can sense the present and they can sense the past. And they can sense when they cant move anywhere they want to go. Thats where the analysis comes from. Ill tell you Something Interesting years ago when there was child abuse happening in the 1800s there were no laws preventing it. So they looked to animal cruelty laws and they based the protection of animals. So maybe this could happen again. That doesnt make ive seen dogs talk on youtube, quite frankly, so theyre pretty smart too. Its a slippery slope. We declare monkeys as persons. Gerri i think its got to be dogs. Do monkeys have the right to vote, the right to bear arms. What are we talking about the planet of the apes. This is silly. Its not going to go anywhere. The law doesnt consider any smart animal as people, dolphins. I hate to use the word gray, just look at it this way, theyre not asking for the right to vote or any rights like that, theyre asking for this particular chimp to go to a sanctuary it happens in florida where people retire to go to this sanctuary where it would be a natural habit. Theyre not looking to open up pandoras box. Gerri they dont want these chimps to be imprisoned. This is the argument theyre using. Whats wrong with that . Theyre not people. Theyre entitled to not cruel and not inhumane treatment. That can be done. If its inhumane thats one thing. Dont declare them persons. It is a slippery slope. Person means youre a person. Thats a human being. Thats reserved to us and us alone. The law always brings in these changes. Documents used to be paper. Dmowrks documents are electronic. Social media. Everything is changing. The knowledge were gaining of certain higher functioning, you know, beings such as apes and chimps, why shouldnt they have a better cut than a lower life form that doesnt know the difference. Gerri you did a good argument of that. Im not betting my whole career on that one. Gerri thanks, paul, thanks to both of you for doing that. Now, we want to hear from you. The number of taxes and fees on a cell phone bill are outstanding and confusing and most of us dont look at the bill before paying in some. Do you . Heres what some of you are tweeting. Yes, i read and read and its amazing the taxes and fees tached on for one company other monthly charges they try to slip by. And on Facebook Harris said, funny gerri, no, i dont. Most people dont read it. Still to come my 2 cents more. Its kip text messaging the guy who is trying to organize mercury one container at a time. My dad say texas oil guy. He was horved.
