Im not sure what theyre in for. But our viewers are in for an awful lot because you
will hear trump speak first and then you will hear kasich and then you will hear ted cruz also hear possibly from Governor Martinez who3 hrj being honored here tonight the governor of new mexico. Just to tell you how excited the new yorkers are. Remember, they are in play. It matters for the first time. I spoke with the state g. O. P. s top attorney jeff bealy earlier to find out whats going to happen and why they are so excited. Take a listen. Exciting for new york to be in play. Did you ever think new york would be so important at this stage of the game . Well, obviously, we had hoped so. And back in 2000, new york was really the decisive primary when george bush took on senator mccain and scored a decisive victory. And the day after the New York Primary senator mccain dropped out and bush became the presumptive nominee. So we have not had a really incident gradual primary since that date but we are very excited about this. And as i mentioned, things running behind. You see them giving a mike check to the podium behind me. Perhaps a little bit of what has held it up is, of
course, theui secret Service Protection for a high profile event like this. There are, what we expect to be, thousands of protesters outside. Some of them got into the hallways and mixed with the media here is a little bit of what you can see of what happened in the hallways as we were waiting to go through the secret service security. Check this out. [chanting] [speaking foreign language] leave it to new york to make it messy, big, exciting and all of our viewers are going to hear from the candidates as they weave through this and of course we have coverage as you mentioned out on the streets. We expect that to heat up as things heat up in here, greta . All right, griff, totally random question. How did they decide the order of who is speaking tonight . I dont know how they chose the order of speaking. But were told that the frontrunner, mr. Trump, may . K have had something to do here with renovating this actual hotel. Maybe we will hear that
maybe he decided that was important. But thats pure guessing simply because i dont know. My guess is if it is a trump hotel he built it, you will hear about it. I think thats pretty safe to say. Griff, thank you. Thank you. While the g. O. P. Candidates are inside for the big republican gala, protesters, as we noted, are lining up outside the Grand Hyatt Hotel. Fox news correspondent Rick Leventhal is live in the middle of it all. Rick . Greta, the nypd just closed the sidewalk here at thegoorner of 42nd because a large group of protesters on the move came here with the intent of walking down lexington towards the Side Entrance to the grand hyatt. You see all the officers in the street there. There is actually some protrump protesters across the street there here in the middle of the intersection a lot of nypd, some of them with zip ties ready to arrest people if they try to block traffic. They have created these pens with barricades for the protesters to gather. Across the entrance where you can see dozens more officers. Some of them right there
with the zip ties as i mentioned. They are a tactical team. They have been on the move responding to potential areas of problems out here. Right nowh9รท things have been very calm. You can see that the main group of protesters up here gathered directly across the street. They say their goal is to disrupt the activities inside. As you heard griffja jenkins mention, some of them actually got. In greta, the big difference between what we are seeing here tonight and what we saw last night in pittsburgh is that last night in pittsburgh, the demonstrators were right in the face of the Trump Supporters as they entered the arena, the Convention Center and came back out again. There were a lot of direct confrontations with Trump Supporters and trump demonstrators. Tonight there was one trump supporter who made his way inside this penn. Our cameraman got some footage of that as there was, in fact, a bit of a confrontation between that one guy and some people who were demonstrating against donald trump. The police came. In they escorted that guy out. Right now what you can see are a lot of officers in front of the grand hyatt
hotel. They are protecting the front entrance there they are making surety guests can get in safely. And then what you also have are now hundreds of demonstrators holding signs. Obviously antitrump signs. Standing with immigrant fascism. The main theme here is to shut down donald trump they say and racist message. They vow to remain here and do what they can to disrupt tonights event, greta. Rick, thank you. And donald trump has his eyes on congress. No, no, no. He is not running for congress. He wants the white house. From congress. So earlier today, members of Donald TrumpsCampaign Team meeting with half a dozen members of congress at the capitol hill club. Now, just a short time ago, one of those members of congress, california representative Duncan Hunter went on the record. Congressman, niles to see you, sir. Great to be with you. So you are a supporter of donald trump, right . Yes. Today is a meeting of six of you . Yes. What did you talk about . We talked about the delegate math which im not really good at but now i
understand it they look like theyre going to be at 1270 or so. Thats according to them. 1270 . 1270 delegates. Thats using their conservative math. We talked about. Who is theirs . The Trump Campaign. The trump and verified by the members that were there. Talking about pennsylvania, new york, california, the big states coming up. And that was it. We said, hey, lets make this more of a regular thing. Where is your operation . Whats going on. We realized he doesnt have much of an operation in any of these states. He wasnt set up. He didnt have a ground game. He didnt have a delegate game. Its just him. I guess thats how it was in the beginning as he was an insurgent and he never really pivoted off of that to get fully into this. Thats where we are right now. They juston got a person in california, i think two or three days ago. Who is at this meeting today . What members of congress . Oh, do you want me to go through them . Yeah. Tom reed from new york. Chris collins from new york. Scott dacharlae. Lou from pennsylvania. Tom marino from pennsylvania. And you. I think thats it. There are a lot of names. I didnt mean to quiz you. Certainly members of congress too. Im lucky i got them all right just now. Would you support to support trump over someone like ted cruz who has been in the senate. We have had to work with ted cruz in congress. What do you mean you have had to work with him. Tried to get deals done between the house and senate and senator cruz has sometimes been the obstacle in getting anything done frankly. What about governor kasich he used to be in congress and prides himself getting things done. And i would vote for cruz and governor kasich, too. I like trump. His priorities are my priorities. Thats what i talk about. Thats what the people in my District Care about. Border security. National security and trade. Thats it. And if he just by the way, if he just does border security, im happy. Just do the one thing, secure the border, you will save america for generations. And in the event he doesnt make the more than
1237 although you said according to the campaign if he doesnt have the 1237, what happens at the convention . I have no idea. Im probably not even going to go. You are not going to go. Stay afar away as possible. Why . I will vote for whoever the republican nominee is. Why. I dont like political games. I look did they go through each one. They actually added up the math in the states. What happened in colorado . Why didnt they have a ground game in colorado. I have lets see if they get

Just released brand new fox news poll. National poll of republican primary voters trump putting some Serious Real Estate between his next closest opponent. Trump gets 45 , senator ted cruz 18 points behind trump at 27 . That lead is 15 points higher than last month. Governor john kasich is close behind senator cruz at 25 . The on the record Political Panel is here. Fortune magazine nina easton and from the hill a. B. Stoddard. Nina, last month, when this poll was done by fox, donald trump was 3 points ahead of ted cruz. He is now 18 in this National Poll. Its really astonishing, greta. So he is not only increased his lead after really bad couple of weeks of selfinflicted wounds, right . We all thought that that would hurt him. It only helped him first of all. Second of all, you are finding that ted cruz is not probably the best repository for the stop trump movement. He is not he is struggling in that particular poll. And what was really interesting to me when you dig down in the numbers is that trump is digging in to that very conservative core that is part of the donald trump base, which is amazing. I mean, this is a guy that doesnt stand up for free trade, that questions americas leadership in the world through organizations like nato, that criticizes the iraq war. These are not very conservative doesnt want to reform entitlements and possibly limit Social Security benefits. This is not a philosophically conservative candidate. Yet, is he picking that up very conservative base that ted cruz was counting on. I had lunch with a friend very liberal and said dont tell anybody but i might vote for trump. I dont think its just sort
of the conservative. Im actually hearing this from liberals. I think its the outsider who can win. I mean, you know, you look at these numbers and Bernie Sanders, its very sweet. He always gets the highest integrity. He always has the best matchup numbers against republicans. Better than hillary. But, he is not going to win. And i thinkee that people look people who are looking for a pure outsider lock at Bernie Sanders and look at donald trump andh they think trump is going to go all the way and Bernie Sanders cant make it to the nomination. What happened to senator ted cruz that it was a 3point margin a month ago and now its what happened . Cratering. The interesting thing kasich rebound to do his benefit and he picked up some market share. Kasich is up 8. We are really getting the message out and people are listening, but they are not we will see what happens in these northeastern states in the primaries to come. Kasich is not really winning at all, ever. So, it looks like it helps him but it really doesnt. It really just helps donald
trump. It hurts ted cruz. Is he really doing an incredible job on the delegate fight. There is a report out in the the Washington Post today about how hard he is working to win on the second ballot and how, you know, hard and truly he is working to blunt trump. But it really looks when you look at the momentum of new york and all these increases that actually is he going to do great in the contests to come and he is not and ted cruz is not going to be able to stop him. Nina, im not counting out governor kasich. The fact he jumped up 8 points in a month and the attention is on the other two. If there is a knockdown, dragout fight kasich could i have no wave predicting. Here is how it would work out that would mean that trump goes to the convention without the magical 1237. That means he started balloting. That means say trump doesnt win on the first ballot, on the second ballot then things start opening up and then there is possibilities for somebody like john kasich. Not paul ryan. I think thats sort of a strange Wishful Thinking on the part of the establishment that somehow they are going to swoop in with somebody like paul
ryan. Thats not going to happen. Somebody who has been in the process, its conceivable. And he also goes to the convention by the way as sort of a kingmaker because he has got delegates. Is he a live actor in that whole dealmaking process that will be going on. Yeah. Make a difference that he is from ohio . I think not because the convei 9mthere so much but because he is the sitting governor of ohio. And its next to florida, the most important state. He is not a former governor. You cant win without ohio. So, in the wild west that is this year, even though he has only won ohio in all the primary contests. He is going in as a live actor in this process saying im going to have some power and anything can happen so why get out . non and apparently is he not getting out. Former Senior Advisor president george w. Bush karl rove goes on the record. Carl, explain these two polls to me. Well, the second question who do you think is going to win or who has the better chance is really sort of like who is in front. And donald trump has been the frontrunner for most of the period since last july in the republican contest. And so i think its just natural for people to say well, is he in front. He, therefore, is likely to be the best candidate. As you say, the other survey, which is the other parts of the survey which i
think are more important are ones that match up head to head. I think this is now the 56th or 57th National Poll since donald trump entered the race in june of last year. He has been ahead of Hillary Clinton in five. Tied with her in two. And behind her in the rest of them. Thats a pretty startling of balance showing at least in the vast majority of these polls is he is the weakest candidate the republicans could put up. And he is the one person who could probably guarantee that Hillary Clinton becomes the next president if he is the g. O. P. Nominee. All right. And so two part question. One is do you expect him to get 1237 votes prior to the convention and then part two is that if he does get those votes in light of thes r polls and these numbers, county Republican Party rally around with him and build him up and handle all the heal all the wounds that people have. And so that he would fair better in november. Congressman Duncan Hunter, i applaud his candor. Is he very candid about the meeting toe at the capitol hill club. Evidence says the trump team thinks they will have 1270t[ votes. 23 more votes they need on the first ballot to be nominated. The magic number that they think they will have is 1270. Today, according to the associated press, donald trump has 743. Thats 742 dels who are elect to do support him plus one unbound delegate who has come out in favor of them. There are 769 delegates who are yet to be determined after this weekend. We are going to finish the wyoming conventions on this weekend. Trump has had no presence in those. Im assuming ted cruz will continue his winning streak in wyoming and finish those off. There will be 769 delegates to be chosen after sunday. In order to get to 1270, donald trump would need to get 68. 5 of them in order to get to 1270. So far he is winning roughly 45 of the delegates. I think thats a high bar. Now, he will have a great tuesday night next week. He will you know, therei] are 95 delegates up. 14 statewide delegates. i the other 81 distributed. Its three per Congressional District. If you get 50 or more statewide you get all the statewide delegates. And then in each Congressional District if you get more than 50 you get all three delegates. If two candidates get more than 20 but nobody gets 50, then its split 2 to 1. As a result, i think on his home turf is he going to carry, i would say 85 to 90 of those delegates but thats still leaves him a long way from being there. Owe is right today, they are about 120 excuse me, about 220 more delegates who are not trump than are for trump and thats going to close that margin by about half. Its going to be awful hard to get there and win 68. 5 once he gets outside of his home turf. Lets assume he does get 1237 and wins on the second ballot or whatever. Bad number against secretary clinton in november. Between july and november do you think the Republican Party and donald trump can whoop up the Republican Party to vote for him and get all the needed voters by november . Key turn that around . Look, you askedv that question by saying could the Republican Party unify around him and mount a campaign . The real question is can donald trump unify the Republican Party . Can donald trump bring together the people who opposed him and unify the party and lead them as an effort into the general election . I was distressed. I wrote my column today about this. He gave a series of introduce. One of the interviews was with bob woodward and robert costa of the the Washington Post. In there they pressed him. Bob woodward said you know, have you broken a lot of eggs. Dont you think its time to stop and unite the party . He said i think i have two more eggs to break. Later on they said to him dont you really want to have the support of these people . Do you want the support of ted cruz he . Says i dont want it dont you want the support of the people who opposed you . He says i think unity is
overstated. Well, lock, the nominee of the Republican Party, whoever he is or she is, has to take the principled responsibility for uniting the party. They have to draw people. In what do you think Ronald Reagan did in 1908 . Did he say my principled opponent george h. W. Bush. No it would unify the party if we bring together wings by making him myy running mate and showing i like him and he and i will be partners that will be tough for trump if his mind set is i dont know i dont need these people. This is the reason why the state Attorneys Office decided it could not prosecute Corey Lewandowski, Trumps Campaign manager for battery. And that is because they had no answer, no rebuttal to the possibility that lewandowski could try and make the claim that he was actually trying to protect mr. Trump inside that crowded arena. The s also cited the reporter, Michelle Fields for several failures. Her failure to go to the back of the room with the other media the fact that she penetrated the security bubble of secret Service Agents around mr. Trump. And the fact that she made physical contact, whether it was incidental or not with mr. Trump and they captured on vape trump withdrawing. It was only then that lewandowski reached, in grabbed her, pulled her back, something he initially
denied doing. But the report went one step further it cited the testimony of an fbi agent saying that Senior Campaign officials typically and traditionally have the responsibility of guidingr their candidate through crowded areas. Just like this one. So the Trump Campaign now they say this event is over. They had praise and thanks for the state Attorneys Office. As you mentioned before, we could still see a civil suit ahead. How has it been on your client throughout these past couple weeks as he faced thew] possibility of a criminal charge and criminal trial . It was extremely difficult. Its difficult on him and his family. Is he a father and husband. Is he a great guy. It was very taxing. It would be taxing on anyone. It was extremely taxing on him because of the enormous attention it got. You know, oftentimes as
you know im a former criminal defense lawyer as well is that oftentimes to get a prosecutor to drop a case there is a lot of back and forth, back and forth. What was sort of interesting and unique about this is that there is a videotape. Did it take i mean, what was it that the prosecutor sit and listen to you or did it take the videotape . What do you think was the compelling reason behind this decision . Well, 3,ejan woe met the chief prosecutors that were in charge here and they were very polite and very attentive to the information we gave them. We gave them information to barton brown 25 year veteran of the fbi. Eric holders pastwwh supervisor of security. And in addition, we also provided them with 15 seconds extra of the29 tape. That tape was of her being directed out of the area. A lot of people said hey, there is no evidence that she was ever told to leave that area. But we had the evidence. And, you know, we offered the police to come in and take as much evidence as they wanted from the disk that mr. Trump had in the bathroom and they decide to
do take the 10nur m of mr. Lewandowski coming into Contact Contact with her. The other additional video that we h the police did not have we provided it to the state attorney along with that affidavit. Let me tell you, we met with them for about an hour and a half, an hour, we discussed each frame, frame by frame, we went through everything with them. We coordinated that with the affidavit provided by Barton Browne and it was fantastic. All right. Now, im sure you know that Michelle Fields has said that she may file a defamation lawsuit. Im sure you have given that some thought. Tell me. True. Give me your sort of thumbnail sketch of what will happen if she files this thumbnail sketch and actually what the trial will be like if you get to that . I dont think it would get to a trial. I dont think its really that strong of a case. You know, of course im biased because im looking at it from coreys side. But when you file a defamation case, and im always careful about filing
defamation cases because it really opens the door to a lot of things that a lot of people prefer not to open the door to. Other allegations, other reputations, things of that nature. Its just probably not a smart idea. That being said, everyone has their choice to file a 0 lawsuit. You can file a lawsuit over anything. Do i think its a successful one . Probably not. Will you file a counterclaim if she does that . I think we would discusspo it at the time. I mean, certainly thats one thing to do. I knowuuv that ms. Fields boyfriend called mr. Trump a thug and called corey a thug and said she was almost pulled to the ground. And i dont believe thats reflective on the video. I think everyone saw that video. And i dont think her description of what happened in that event was seen on how about apology . Was that ever discussed . I heard the prosecutor speak briefly about it. Selmerly at the financing it was discussed like maybe we can make it all go away. She want to do file the complaint. She filed the complaint. And at that point once a
complaint is filed. You know, i always tell my clients dont say anything. Lets keep quiet. Lets go through the evidence. Lets show the evidence. Let, show why this is not an offense. And thats exactly what we did. A lot of pundits were saying this is an open and shut case. A lot of pundits didnt have that extra videotape. They didnt realize that we had an Expert Witness that was saying this is what happens in these events. This is exactly what happens. And every action that that mr. Lewandowski took that evening is okay. That is what they do. That is how this works. Someone gets in the way to be, they have to be redirected out of the way. There is security protocol and that needs to be followed. Why do you think she did that . Why do you think she asked for a criminal case . You know, i really dont know. I think that the first shot was really fired. She had the information of mr. Trumps Campaign Manager, mr. Trumps communications director. She could have contacted them prior to doing anything. But, instead of contacting them, really the first shot heard was from her boyfriend
who said mr. Trump is a thug and corey is a thug and she was almost pulled to the ground. And i think it just kind of snow balled from there. You know, it really wasnt the smartest way to do it.
