As you heard lauren mention, thousands have gathered. They hold a rally there on the capitol steps. They are making their way to the 16 et street mall protesting trumps election. Right now, an update on a man in evergreen accused of shooting and killing two bear cubs. Dan williams first told deputies he shot rubber bullets at the cubs but he later told investigators when his dog got loose and fought with one of the bears he used live rounds and killed them both. He was found guilty of one felony and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. He was acquitted on two other counts. Police chased him to castle rock, but the chase called off due to dangerous high speeds. The suspect is still on the run tonight. New developments in a cbs4 investigation. The city of denver is planning to once again sweep homeless camps out of downtown denver next week. Now, you may recall the last time it happened, a cbs4 investigation revealed money donated to help the homeless was used instead to sweep them away. Cbs4 investigator brian maass broke the story. Steps in now with new information. Reporter the city of stopped diverting donations intended to help the homeless. Now they are taking another step to make sure what we found is not repeated. These were the highly controversial sweeps pushing the homeless out of downtown. What became equally controversial is how we learned how this was funding. The Hancock Administration funded the sweeps partly by taking money from a Homeless People doe nateing money to help the homeless. I think they realized what they did was wrong. Reporter the aclu has been highly critical about how the funds were diverted and major hancock called it an administrative snafu. Someone may have looked at the fund and said it seems appropriate. But when you take a closer look and we have already corrected it thanks to your investigation as well. So it is done. And we move on. But no, i was noted initially aware of it. Reporter now they are taking another step. The Homeless Donation Fund will now be a stand alone fund with no other Revenue Sources to ensure funds are comingled and money does just that. Julie smith with denvers department of Human Services says what the cbs4 investigation found was not fair to donors who thought they were helping the homeless. Was it wrong to take the money meant to help the homeless and use it to sweep them out . The best idea and i think we can agree that we reversed course as soon as you brought it to our attention and we appreciated that. It doesnt look good because it wasnt good. Reporter the aclu does not believe it was an innocent mistake. I think we are pretty sure this was not just an accounting error or an administrative snafu. It was an intentional and rather callous decision on the part of city leaders. I think it does undermine trust. Especially since people were told put money in the meters. Dont give it di you cant trust what they will do with it. Instead, it was the city you wouldnt trust with the money. Reporter the city say it is homeless camps downtown are unsafe and unhealthy for the homeless and people who live nearby. New at 6 00, the iconic red stone castle near Glenwood Springs has new owners and they are already planning big changes to that landmark. You may have driven past it at some point. The mansion is in the town of Matt Kroschel got a tour of the castle so matt, what do the new owners have planned . Reporter well, the new owners say they want to make sure people can continue to visit this iconic landmark here in colorado in the future and they are turning it into a bed and breakfast to do that so that people can keep coming back for another 100 years. If these walls could talk, the stories guests included teddy roosevelt, jd rockefeller jr. And junior. Reporter when it sold for 2. 2 million. About six weeks ago, we got a postcard saying it was for sale. And we thought well, that would be interesting. Lets see what it is about. And, here we are. Reporter it was originally built in 1899 for coal and steel magnet John Cleveland ozgrove. Furniture to the art on the walls. Most everything is original. I think we would like to do six, possibly eight larger bed and breakfast type rooms. Right now, we are in the sun room. Reporter susan has lived here for two decades. She kind of came with the castle. And plans on continuing her job as the tour guide here for visitors. It is really exciting for me and redstone. Because, this is such an important piece of the towns history. We are not change anything. Reporter and that is exactly what people who loved the castle were hoping for. New owners who want to keep it open for others to enjoy. The house is just so solid. It feels like it could be here another several hundred years. Always loved this story. It is National Adoption day. Courts actually clear the docket sos families could finalize adoptions. Cbs4s jamie leary reports on the proceedings. Reporter this is the 12th year denver has celebrated National Adoption day. 47 children were adopted here in court. 47 Great Stories but one in particular stuck out. Eight years ago, a judge here had the tough task of putting a young girl into the foster care system because she was neglected. That came girl came back today and that same judge came back specifically to preside over her adoption. Children are meant to be raised in families. Of families. And that didnt always work out. But now, you have a great family. And, um, just, sitting here looking at the three of you, you guys are going to lock it. Reporter degenet is 17 years old. Not only did she find her forever home, but the woman she calls mom also adopted her younger sister. Not everyone is as these 47 here today. There are 39 children and 238 throughout colorado in foster care waiting to find permanent homes. Today that happened thanks to 34 dedicated families. Some who are adopted more than one like scott and chris who made zoe and her little brother alex part of their home. We have our own two kids. We started looking the. We wanted just one child and two. All about love. And family. And family. Reporter 632 children in colorado have been adopted thanks to this annual event. But the purpose is to bring attention to a bigger problem. There are more than 100,000 kids nationwide in foster care who also need forever homes. In denver, jamie leary, cbs4 news. Well, denver is getting a new amphitheater that will provide free concerts all summer. Crews broke down on the pavilion. It is the last part of the parks revitalization. This procession has been moving out for about an hour down through the area. You can see just the sea of people moving down here. This is a peaceful protest. On facebook, about 3,000 people rsvped to this group. But clearly, the crowd is much bigger than this. During the election cycle, we saw trump rallies somewhere around 5,000 to 8,000 people.
