"the lens" you can see it now in these renderings. it's a 500-thousand dollar sculpture of the ped mall. it's 30 feet tall. earlier this year, the council voted "no" to putting 50-thousand dollars towards the project to help leaders hire a professional fundraiser to help raise the 500-thousand. but it's back on the agenda because the full council wasn't there. tonight all members are present and we're expecting a tight vote. if they vote no, the fate of this project will really be unknown.n.f they say yes, it could be in place sometime next year. we'll have the latest tonight at ten. in iowa city, mark carlson, kcrg tv nine news. the city council will also discuss bringing uber to iowa city. the city's already arted talking with h e ride shariri service, and the two sides agree that a potential a change to city code could work for both of them. the amendment would require uber to get a business license from the city. that would allow the ride-sharing service to conduct its own background checks and vehicle screenings. tiffin's city council is set to city's minimum wage nine dollars hour next week. earlier this month, the council voted down a different minimum wage ordinance that would have gone along with johnson county for workers over 18. the countywide minimum wage is set to go up to 100 an hour by 2017. the vote is set for march 8th. a new des moines register - mediacom iowa poll shows almost seven out of ten iowans would like to see a increase in minimum wage. but how much that increase should be varies among supporters. 16 percent would like to see 15 dollars an hour or more. 33 percent would like 10 dollars an hour. and 16 percent would like nine dollars an hour. the poll has a margin of error of 3-point-5 percent. a new study shows cedar rapids has the second higst number of millennials in the country who are buying homes. the study by smart asset shows 45 percent of the city's millennials, or people in their 20s, own homes. it cited high graduation rates and a relatively possible reasons why young people move to cedar rapids. "smart asset" compared u-s census bureau data of homeownersnder age 35 between 2005 and 2014. florida and texas were the top states for millennial home ownership. the marion library has a new director. the library board chose elsworth carman out of three finalists for the position. he comes to marion from the oak park public library in illinois where he was the manager of library experiences.#carman will be the 11th director r the library starting april 18th. some eastern iowa students are competing to become top chefs. the prostart invitational kicked off in des moines this morning. students from 12 iowa schools including cedar rapids, alburnett, waterloo, and charles city are taking part. each team of three has 60 minutes to prepare a three course meal, including an appetizer, a main dish, and a dessert. the competition is study, internships, and what the students have learned from mentors. ""it i ireally exciting becacae we are here at the iowa events center where state basketball happens and all the other state championships happen so we are kind of considering ourselves with those other extra curricular activities" a restaurant management competition ih the style of "shark tank" is also taking place. the top team in each category advances toto the national competition in dallas next month where scholarships are on the line. classic car collectors say iowans should not have to put cense plates on the front of their vehicles. and under a new bill in the iowa house, they wouldn't have to. "if they only have the rear plate, getting a good identification of that vehicle and what that license plate is, is next to impossible " but iowowlaw enforcement says that would make it harder for officers to do their jobs. bill that would eliminate front license plates on vehicles in the state. says the change would save more than 500 thousand dollars each year. but iowa law enforcement is skeptical. they say removing the front license plate would make it harder for them to do law enforcement use front and rear license plates for tracking vehicles in iminal investigations. t ty also say vehicles with two license plates better help eople involved in amber alerts. "you take that front plate off, it makes it tough to get that identification and feedback from the public. 12:34 12:35 you've got several vehicles with similar make and model and color, the only thing that distinguishes them is that cense plate. " the iowa automobile dealers association supports this bill, saying new cars aren't made with holes for a front license plate. the iowa d-o-t hasn't taken a position on the issue. nationwide, 19 states do not require a front license plate. the mount vernon city council is thinking about banning nicotine in parks and outdoor facilities. at the last council meeting, the city's parks and recreation board presented a resolution for adopting such an ordinance. the coalition, "rural communities rising above the influence in linn," or r-c rail, found 200 incidents of nicotine usage in mount vernon hasn't heard much opposition, but welcomes anyone who wants to start a conversation.
