The recovery and then they get hit again Wednesday they get it again hard there were more delays and cancellations than ever before in Delta history from thunderstorms on that day and that storm actually continued up to New York and and it still could there. So severe thunderstorm impact and you know it would take a day or 2 to recover but don't but had a complete meltdown and did not recover quite why until Sunday or so in terms of getting people there were hundreds of thousands of people affected getting people who were stranded somewhere well into next week so the question was who or what happened why was the recovery so bad and Delta launched its own investigation and it turns out almost unbelievably that the main problem was the crews I wasn't quite attendants had to call in to get assignments and get their questions answered and the phone lines were overwhelmed and all they got were busy signals and so you had you had a situation where they had quite it and it's ready to go but they couldn't get their assignments because every time I called out I was a busy signal how appreciative by the way is delta of United dragging that passenger off of that one plane that they had spread around the same. Yeah it's a really interesting dynamic because. Delta was was full blown into their meltdown when Sunday night United had yet but certain completely took the focus off of. So from from that regard I think it it certainly made a public literally with the public through ation the different. Hundreds of thousands of people who were stranded or you know to school groups who couldn't make their trip to Europe for spring break and people stuck all over the place worldwide. Certainly dealt this problem was front and center. We're speaking with Wall Street Journal airline writer Scott McCartney His piece is called what caused an epic meltdown at Delta are so we got these storms the pilots and crews are calling in they can't get in because the lines are jammed that people are not getting their assignments flights are canceled that said we are heading into summer where there are these scattered thunderstorms which can seemingly pop up out of nowhere what's Delta going to do then for the summer. I think they do have an action plan they have already. Well by then. By June will have more phone lines in place so more people in places are going to double the number of people who work in crew tracking and they're also cross training people from other departments they can pull in in a crisis and then deal with that by August so they're going to have set up in their crew lounges and airport. So I was invited to actually go to the crew room and pick up a hotline and talk to somebody there they're putting these things in place and I think they're more aware of the problem.
