And it opened there were 2 generators in the basement that provided power to the entire structure and to help out once the construction was completed the family formed a power company with a dam and power house across the Eagle River this was a source for electricity to Northern Mendocino and Southern humble counties which were without electrical service at the time originally there was a coffee shop plus a stable that was destroyed by a fire in 1956 that year California State Parks purchased a portion of the land along the riverfront and the old mill site the Benbow historic in continues to be the jewel of Southern Humboldt and open for meals as well as lodging in an atmosphere in comfort be fitting the bin both families original vision of 100 years ago. It was subsequently sold and was operated until 1968 it then stood vacant until 972 when the building then almost 100 years old was demolished replaced by a used car lot a local rumor of the time indicated that the name Lansing came from a sign in front that advertised dancing that had been altered to the new name the Myers in was a lodging place that was created from opportunity the Meiers family purchased a tract of land from early settlers an 867 the area called liars flat began to see increased traffic as the road system was developed as their farm with over a 1000 trees in the orchard began to attract attention from folks in the area the family decided in 1015 to build a hotel to serve the.
