Back in 2017 a local health emergency was declared after a hepatitis a outbreak what lessons you learned from that that you brought here today I think so the common terminology. The opportunity to continue to engage community members and partners we've always indicated we can't do this alone this when there's a National City battalion fire chief Robert Hernandez received his flu shot today a specialized group that gets involved with people you know it when they're sick that prevented a piece is a truly important now here's news a tether Myers with your micro-climate forecasts mid to upper seventy's right down to the beaches today upper eighty's if not 90 for most of our in love Valley communities expect the dry conditions to last through today and then things begin to change as early as tomorrow 1st a dramatic drop in temperatures tomorrow or about 9 degrees cooler for illin Valley communities by Thursday on Am 765 news it's Heather Meyers right now it's fair and 89 in Escondido Mike Slater's next am 760 talking breaking news. Is that later. I am 76 a m. . Welcome corn corn talk. Talk. If you going to go on record coming up so I did watch the debate obviously but Tom Styer was on the debate stage for the 1st time I don't know how he got there I don't know he's running let alone how he was able to be a person up there but. Let's let's play one little clip here and I will just debug every single word of it for Erick 20 having had a race 90 percent of Americans and dog had a race for 40 years if you took the minimum wage from $980.00 and just adjusted it for inflation you get $11.00 it's 7 in a quarter if you include the product to video games of American workers in the over $20.00. So none of what he said is true I don't think it's because spend forever doing this but just take the 1st and Americans haven't had a raise for 40 years. 90 percent of Americans have it or is for 40 years so I mean if you're 60 you're making the same out of money maybe when you were $20.00. Is no way that's true and I know it's not c.b.l. The question Budget Office the Bureau of Labor Statistics and common sense proves that there's no way that's true any way you cut the numbers you're just for inflation by the way you do whatever doesn't matter is no way that's true. All wages for all income groups have increased the best spin if you're a progressive the best spin that you can put on it is that the richest 10 percent of Americans their incomes have risen more than the lower income groups have increased but everyone's increased Yes the the riches have increased more but that's not necessarily bad just a statement of fact but there's you can't say that no 90 percent of Americans have had a raise for 40 years or yes now I fell for that trap that I'm going to talk about here if you noticed in the last minute. Here's the important thing you know this be very careful when people politicians analyze groups of people and income groups over time like Thomas tired of there because a person who made minimum wage 40 years ago is not making minimum wage today 40 years later those are different people now the time has passed they're different people politicians want you to look at the abstract they want you to look at these made out brackets of people when really we need to look at individual people so let me try to make sense is because numbers are hard and over the radio and citizens are trying to make that always narrow use a baseball example let's say Erik and I and Eric and I and and Miles they were in the major leagues play baseball baseball players were great baseball players this year we had we had a 320 average a good year 32320 and we had 100 home runs the 3 of us combined with 100 home runs. So year goes by and 3 other people. Carry Jim and Jake up 3 very different people than Eric Miles and Jerry Jimmy Jacobs They also bat 320 this next season but they had 120 home runs that you could accurately state that players who hit 320 in a season are hitting more home runs this year than last year is that again because this is true players who hit 320 in a season are hitting more home runs this year than last year that's a true statement but you would not conclude that Erik miles and I are hitting more home runs. Because this season Eric Miles and I are only batting 300 we're not batting 320 meaning we're not in that same group of people anymore. When I say players who hit 320 I just made up a group of people I made up a bracket but over time the people in that bracket are different one year and they're miles and I the next year it's over I said Jerry Jim and Jacob different people so you can't look at that bracket over time because there's different people in the bracket what's important to the people now in baseball statistics and sports statistics we don't track groups of people you've never heard anyone make that statistic before all the ridiculous to Texas baseball you never heard anyone say well players who hit 320 Any year are hitting more home runs than ever that's not a stat but you do track individual players say oh this person said in more home runs this year they're having fewer home runs of here whatever the track people but for some reason in politics we don't track people we track groups of people we talk about the top one percent as if it's the same individual people every single year and always has been we talk about the bottom 20 percent this abstract group of people this made up concept is the poorest 20 percent we talk about that bottom 20 percent as if it's the same group of people every year we hear about the rich getting richer as if it's the same people getting richer richer richer richer richer and we talk about the poor getting poorer as if it's the same people are getting poorer and Bora Bora Bora but if you look at individual people it tells a very different story so if you take someone who's 20 years old they're probably going to be in one of the lower income brackets I was when I graduated college I made a $23.00 or $24000.00 a year and I was just I barely missed qualifying for the State Children's Health Insurance Program because I was $22.00 and made $24000.00 or something I judge them in like 2000 more dollars I qualified for government health care welfare. So I was in the lowest income bracket. $21.00 or 2 but 40 years later take a 20 year old in a low sink a ragged 40 years later the person that person is going to be making more money now politicians only want you to look at 20 year olds but that doesn't make sense it makes way more sense to look at individual people over time they want to look at 20 year olds 20 years ago and 20 year olds today but those are all by definition different people so I'll give an example why this matters and what you do is a 1000000 are ways for different years different brackets the conclusion is always the same there's just the 1st one that popped up when I looked it up and present you can pick any year it doesn't matter it's all the same this was actually pretty convincing one because it's only a it's a pretty short timeframe but 2001 to 2007 if you look at individual people over those 6 years ago it's a very short time frame because if you can follow us if you can follow this event clearly anybody's any dolt if you look at someone who's in the poorest 20 percent of Americans in 2001 not hard for me to imagine. You were in that group. Only 6 years later not a very long time 31 percent of those people were in the next bracket up the next 20 percent the cream of the crop of that group 8 percent moved up to the middle class to the middle 20 percent 3 percent just in 6 years 3 percent move to the 4th higher that I guess the 2nd highest income bracket the the rich and 2 percent moved all the way up to the richest 20 percent within just 6 years so only 56 percent so if you look at I don't know how many people are in the 20 percent what's 20 percent of able bodied working Americans. 20000000 people whatever if you look at 20 to 20000000 people who are in the poorest 20 percent of Americans who really 6 years later. Only 56 percent of them are still in that poorest 20 percent so almost half of them moved up income bracket in only 6 years now if you spend that same analysis over 20 years then you're going to have very few people are actually still in that poorest 20 percent 20 years later now goes the other way to take a rich person in 2001 the richest 20 percent which is about 100000 dollars a year if you make over a $100000.00 a year in the richest 20 percent of Americans to take the richest 20 percent of Americans 6 years later only 66 percent were still in that bracket so it goes both ways so when people say the poor getting poorer that's not true I just proved and I can do this again any year any bracket doesn't matter that the poor are getting richer they're moving up in income brackets and you'll see that the rich are getting richer. In many cases the poor are getting poorer so you take the richest richest one percent of Americans 6 years later 6 only 66 percent of them are still in that richest 20 percent 18 percent fell a bracket lower 7 percent felt 2 brackets lower in the middle 4 percent went to the 2nd poorest and 5 percent of those richest Americans dropped all the way to the poorest the lowest 20 percent and again that's a 6 year period that is proof of a very mobile society that is an income mobile society both ways and that's what matters it's mobility what matters in America is very healthy in that regard and most of that it's up to you and the choices that you make in your life that's what mostly decides your mobility may we talk about that next but does it make sense it's really important that the 1st 10 times I heard Thomas all talk about this I didn't get it the 1st 10 times. But when you get it you hear politicians talk about the poorest of the richest Now if you look at an individual person's life over time that's what matters. There's a lot of mobility and if you look just look at your life this is a weird thing that people do when it comes economics and when your analysis of the state of America's economy people say God actually doing pretty good economically things are better and things are looking up but my neighbor now or early a big picture of God but the economy is terrible. Just look at yourself look at your income from when you were 20 to where you are today probably making more Tom Styer said you haven't 90 percent of Americans haven't had a raise in 40 years even if you just for inflation that's absurd you have more everything now than when you were 20 you can buy a lot more than you did so just look at your life you have more money now maybe I one point you made a lot more and now you're not making as much one point you made up 150000 dollars one year maybe even you sold out and you profited some income off that right that would put in the top 2 but you got you know you went out for one year and then you went down a little bit and then you're kind of middle for many years and then you had a couple hard years I lost a job so maybe you're in the poorest for a while and then you've got a great job again and now you're back up at the top rate you have a lot of income mobility range that's true for almost everyone and that's what matters not these made up abstract groups the poor the rich the one percent get past that thinking it's manipulative. I'm going to put Thomas all play next and maybe he can make more sense of us 10760 care for me when I was 765362 Dr Sandy Feldman. I. Saw the great scratch my. 10 millimeter scratch across the front I brain are so into the eye doctor and she said Oh you got lasik So did you so did the ole I test. Later. Crossed it. Ok. I need to evaluate my life. Notices about myself a while ago but I never I never thought to think about. Maybe I should open this up to the thoughts I think I'm ready to take criticism problems I notice that when I write emails I'm I'm really big into using smiley faces. And I don't know if that's a good thing. Now I just want to be clear I'm not using a mo G.'s I'm doing the old school colon dash right parenthesis sure yeah I'm not a I'm not a 12 year old girl right I'm not drop and the yellow Modi's around rez old school texting text text. Text I'm Ok not even emotions text while of it I want to I want that to be clear but I just wrote an email and I read it and I wrote I put 3 smiley faces and that's that's way too many Yeah I usually get myself to one I don't know what I was doing with the 3 I was way out where I went to bounce sure here but that just brought to my attention that maybe I should even use any new ones to me I think it was I know it was I think it was Jack Armstrong Getty we're talking about e-mail etiquette in this exact thing and I believe the outcome of the. Tour is I value their paper they were talking about was you shouldn't trust people who use emotion because it's like an overcompensation. Yeah yeah here's what I said I said hey name someone you know Clark Clark let me know if this I was sending a bunch of video and pictures complicated a lot of video Ok let me know if this didn't work smiley face there should be 5 videos in a picture period I don't want to be like let me know this didn't work yeah you know if this didn't work yeah. Let me know if this didn't work I was a woman I started to maybe a little difference are today. That is a little different I think you know this work. That's kind of you know that I was realizing my own bias there. Like I somehow feel more comfortable with putting a smiley face when it's to a woman versus Is that like a sexist now is that a thing I don't know them as I might I mean this is Saajan e coming from I think this is their downfall I should have brought it up this is Thomas sole income inequality talking about opportunity and outcome 22305 there the big confusion among the redistributionist is between opportunity and outcomes and one of the examples I used in a recent column was that you know when I when I was a kid I briefly tried to play basketball and I mean I was lucky to hit the back would never mind the basket you know but I had just as much opportunity to play basketball as Michael Jordan. You cannot measure opportunity but and that's what the redistributionist insist on doing they say this group obviously the equal opportunity because they were turned down for loans more so than that group yes if you have lower credit scores you'll be turned down for loans more so than people with high credit scores we need to always make sure that opportunities available for everyone but even then even if opportunities available not everyone's going to make good decisions they're going to decisions their decisions and their lives are in their kids' lives not going to the most of the opportunities or you're not 6 foot 6. You know the good Michael Jordan but you also may not have all the other characteristics that are necessary to be a superstar athlete like Michael Jordan had let me give you one more statistical example here just the statistics and it manipulate your thinking older people make more money than younger people on average but obvious right it's true in your life it's true in almost every So you at 55 make more money than you did at $25.00 it's true of everyone almost every. How about this Japanese Americans are on average 20 years older than the average age of Puerto Rican in America Japanese Americans are 20 years older than Puerto Ricans in America so if these 2 groups of Americans are completely identical in every possible way Japanese Americans would still make more money on average than Puerto Rican now is that racism is that systematic racism against Puerto Ricans Is there some underground movement to keep Puerto Rican down like one side stories I don't know Japanese Americans are older now a 55 year old Puerto Rican is probably going to make you more money than a 20 year old Japanese American but if you look at it on average it looks like Puerto Rican were discriminated against in the labor market but it's not. Their all their. Japanese American their sales to to 60 misleading with the stuff in question all that always 10760 k. a Family David Epstein and Bradley Weiss and they'll walk you through stuff like there's no better job than I can of explaining it because this is really really poor like or debating you know I'm analyzing a debate that's somewhat important so you can know the truth and spread the word but with David Epstein or Bradley white understanding the numbers in the statistics and how they all work together that's your livelihood that's part of your retirement could be all of your retirement but certainly a part of it so David Epstein Bradley white and there are so security seminar next Tuesday or Wednesday so week from today I'll be there the one on Wednesday so I get a free copy my book will get a signing off for a while and choose these 2 men who are going to make sure that you do everything right and get as much money as possible because of the work of really hard for 40 years and a free to make one last it's not even that you make the wrong decisions it's no decisions and then. We make everything understandable we do check it out we'll explain 760 talk and breaking news now back to Mike Slater. Still. Very valued. As you're about to read it. Says Mike I make $25.00 per hour. That is unusual that you would state that but Ok probably that you're right it's unusual that I would say no that think I would say. Person I mean $25.00 an hour that's the exact wage that the guy doing my job in 2005 was making I personally know he told me that. Echoing the sentiment from Tom Steyer now that the Democrats that wages are not increasing. Stier I think said 90 percent of Americans haven't had a raise in 40 years I do the 1st glance no way that's true but it's not true but but here's a listener saying Well hold on I made 20 $5.00 an hour 14 years ago this job paid $25.00. But the guy who's the guy who had my job 14 years ago said he made $25.00 an hour so that seems to prove that wages haven't increased at least these 14 years so here are the 2 questions that need to be asked What is that guy making now 14 years ago. And what were you making in 2005 more you making 14 years. Back he said 14 years ago I was making 1250 now I was making 25 double. As his wages increased and was 14 years very much. And he doesn't know how much his body makes but it's at a higher position so surely it's being more than 25 right and he's in the company that hires them so both of these 2 people see going to if you're a Democrat you look at it like oh look. This job doesn't pay more Hasn't the just this made up arbitrary thing. Income bracket as we talked about earlier or this job wages haven't gone up in 14 years look at that. Tough hard to get make ends meet but then I say well hold on what about. Janice what about the guy. Jonas Jonas I guess Jonah has to Jonah. Well when did you start getting picky about the names that was a Hyundai that's not a name if your it is Jonas Brothers as a last name Ok so now we're getting picky about. Jonah let's look at Jonah Jonah 40 years ago is making 250 now he's making 25 he's making literally twice as much money and these other guys making you know whatever I don't tell much more that's yelling at people not made up arbitrary groups it's a perfect example of what I was talking about I want to. Talk about all the time there isn't Eric lost me a long time ago so don't feel bad if you did to once I would Thomas so I can stop Eric who do the Sonics up there. Sure what does that. Number of Ses deeds are quote black Americans a group often identified as beneficiaries of the welfare state in America made considerable economic progress in the 20th century fine of course but much if not most this is the thing with you the dependent clause where the state is but much if not most of this progress was prior to the massive expansion of the American welfare state close quote that is so counter I want to say counter-intuitive because we hear so much about African-American progress and civil rights in the the establishment of the welfare state that really has become a kind of American intuition explain yourself Dr Sol well as 194087 percent of black households were in poverty over the next 20 years that declined to 47 percent this is all prior to the civil rights laws prior to the social welfare policies of the administration over the next 20 years that fell an additional 80 points. But that was not that was just the same trend continuing at a reduced rate there that 87 percent of African-Americans by people in 940 were in poverty not good 960 was down to 47 percent that's incredible gain and then 18 years later is nerve how many years later do you say is the one dollar 29 percent amazing but as we keep moving more in the direction of more government control and more welfare more bureaucracy the numbers getting worse and worse. Go to Dave in a Ramona with a. Lawyer But you know your tough talk about one of my favorite topics and I'm not being sarcastic about business coach in this conversation. But my clients because they think. Longevity equals more money and we as a people right here get it right get a raise because we're showing up at the state. And we get paid commensurate value great to the business so the reason is she makes a lot of those numbers 300 times or 3000 times more because the value they bring to the business their job is so much more important than the person turning the renter working on the line etc They're lazy person to replace. This guy who wrote in saying his job this decision is paying the same as what 25 years ago 40 years ago 4020 years ago so we should have thought of that much based on. But how much is technology changed in 40 years how much less valuable is his position because of the advent of technology much easier is it in place and other things to put in place to deprecate the value that is issued I've no idea what it does to talk to the edge of that static but all of those are facts how many more people are doing the job right so the find the mandate how many people are buying the product . Right so I'm a fan of the product he's making he has a problem right so let's just say for the security of printer Ok then old old school printer so you. Very very few of that sort of jobs exist anymore and it's not as critical because of digital printing so you can't command the same money today and you put that. 20 years ago before the printing so you know and then or let's go the opposite direction so somebody is really smart and cybersecurity huge demand that a lot of people today you get a lot of money but doesn't do. 1st right we're inundated with doctors would not make eventually less today than he did what was the day when I was your age because there's so many more doctors there's less actually right supplies but it created it so that you goes down and you say I don't know yet so as a people don't like when the forces of supply and demand are applied to their wages they much rather like as you start off with well I've been doing this job for 10 years therefore I should be making more automatically. What actual value of my hired you what should be your much project company and the job they are you so I don't have no training there's no ramp up time if you walk into a job you know I want it done exactly how to do it my way and you bring that to the table I pay you a wage let's call it $20.00 now. A year from now you're doing the exact same you're not any better at it you do it exactly the same way why should I pay you more what more value to bring to me as a business to justify the increase to my expenses because it business there are no expenses are only investments if I invest in you by giving you a raise I need a commensurate return on that investment otherwise I'm going to out of business. Yeah. Yeah so there could be a bunch of different forces for or if you if there's no years end of this and if he does nothing different he should get the same wage Exactly and. I counsel my clients all the time you know there's just there's a range because you come in on day one you're never going to be as good as on day 365 and you know and 5 years it's a better feeling there's a basement right and then they get somebody to do that job but there's a ceiling which imagine that jobs were no matter who's doing it because it only had so much to your bottom line yeah sad to day my present calm very good well said people don't like to think that way. I'll give an example. A couple years ago a ballpark in a couple years ago I was talking to a former I don't know if they were an agent. Of the nation or a friend or an indy industry I don't know what they were but they were involved somehow with a d.j. And I wanted to Chicago Detroit or some big city radio d.j. F.m. D.j. And it was 20 years ago or something in the heyday and they signed a contract for $3000000.00 some ridiculous crazy amount of money for radio d.j. And that same guy resigned I heard the story a couple years ago so resigned whatever 5 years ago 20 years later resigned for 40000 same guys same thing doing with a different one from 3 mil to 40000 ballpark in those numbers but it's a ridiculous number to you know relatively tiny number for doing the same thing it's a blind man technology all these other forces and it's hard but now Democrats look at it like oh they would take him and put him in a statistical group and say Oh look people are getting poorer. You know lifestyle choices and a lot of different factors go into that but I don't think you can judge an entire economy based off of that person who said you know and comparatively industry less supply demand less demand and. Or can you take the person you know the earlier and just judge to the jobs wage and not look at the individual people's wages which are clearly going up I've got one more example I want to go back over come back actually it's about household income and hear the word household income throw flag on the field because you're probably being manipulated as well when some politician or someone brings up household income early something that you've got to keep in mind when you hear the term household income 0 read gives here as a call and save money save $54.00 you owe more than that actually $54.00 off the price of $3.00 cards and then do you want to you know when you want $35.00 and then 20 foot carpet hallway clean for free I don't know what that normally cost with $25.00 but I'll say it's $30.00 I know but he said that to save more than $50.00 when you call zeros and tell me listen to the banks later show and it is worth every single penny carpet everything feels better your carpet will literally feel better just if the whole room feels better I mean softer and obviously way cleaner or you can continue to live like that lady in a van with rent or rats I don't know whatever you make your life choices. Calls here as I'm come by a.s.a.p. 858-486-4100 if you like of they come by and they clean a load of your carpet and going to and then they'll just leave and that's it you know bam anyway so you're 100 percent satisfaction guaranteed 858464103 quotes of 140 San Diego. F.m.b. Dot com. If you can make economics day show. Talk about statistical misrepresentations of manipulations of 2 facts about household income because here about you always hear about you know top 20 percent of households or bottom 20 percent of households household income to comment on this is around and by politicians. So 2 facts about household income 1st. There may be so if you look at the bottom 20 percent of households in the top 20 percent households richest 20 percent asphalt it's the same number of households but the poorest 20 percent of households has 40000000 people and the richest 20 percent of households has 69000000 people. So there was 50 percent more people in the 20 percent richest households so that's used the numbers as what number you were looking at but that's going to skew the numbers because there's the same number of households but different vastly different numbers of people and that's what really matters is the number of people surveyed the 2nd point will prove why it's matters what people are doing. The left will maybe they'll throw out something like a household income is going down but in this household incomes going down people are getting poorer when in fact the opposite could be true and I think we may share this example for. The 1st time explaining yet so let me try again and then look at some of these things to be 10 times before I barely get a grasp so it's a 2 people earn $20000.00 a year the remainder you and I were roommates were just start out in this business a 20000 bucks a year. We were living together save money because it's expensive here. So our household income or you and me our household income is what you make 20 I mean 204040000 dollars house falling or not showering together the same certainly very difficult to bathrooms in the UK Thank you now let's say we get a raise right now we're making $30000.00 you're making 30 I make. Or make enough money that we can each get our own apartment because I'm sick of living with you I told you put your dishes away how hard is it to clean up your underwear that you were thinking I'll clean up the underwear when you start putting your dishes away Ok How hard is it yeah just rinse it put in the dishwasher hard is it to come home by 9. Or maybe maybe I should have used us as an example I want to try for a point here Ok we'll talk about that unfair to the point is you're making 30 are making 30 unsecure crap so I'm moving now so you're moving now and I'm moving out we get on apartment now my household income is now what 30 grand is that lower than 40. Yes So our household income is going down well your household income is going down my household income is going down but my income went up I was making 20 now making 30 my income with your costs just went up to the. Potential for the sake of having a 2nd conversation right but my income went up but our household incomes went down so politicians like it and also all of household incomes used to be $40000.00 now it's only 30 people just not making wasn't as much money but if you look at the individual people Eric and I we come back and say oh no we're actually making. More money making $10.00 we were making $20.00 or 30. So you seized it is a tricky this is why Andrew Yang wore a pin during the debate to just sit knows the pain he was wearing. The pin said maff. Now he's got a great idea to guarantee a minimum income guy but man it's so hard. Here's a reminder when you need to know you you know you say you have 768 if he said to you go.
