Fashion Yes you can don't let anybody tell you otherwise if you've got a skill set in the backyard why not get paid for it and we've got one of the greatest continually Writing Skills USA high school with an automotive program so I always invite you guys to come by my parents will be fearful don't listen to the news hash tag fake news the automotive industry is jam packed with careers technology while my son plays on the Nintendo Well I mean he may be able to flash program a computer someday on a vehicle Think about that for a minute think about. If you don't eventually he will we have. Last week we wanted to privileged to have Wayne careening chasing classic cars it was a gentle interview they had been doing this for 40 odd years any are still out there. Looking for cars in the morning or find you can find that along with well we'll Buxton we actually took a journey and some of the greatest race car drivers that we had Steve Celine on people. Doing some amazing things out there in China actually that us want. To get all the insulation the t.v. And I remind you people only you got the origination hats like to say maybe they're collector items I don't know yet we'll see in the future I may just. Be ork some day with the side of it and. Let anybody that has interest. In mechanic. Shop difficult. Little hack get a wrench nation that you cool down you feel good that we're all one family you don't rich nation could you. Not send in your people we just want you to join our Dr Google newsletter and take you on the journey speaking of journey I have my lovely co-host is in the building what is going on girl right now you don't body. I mean I would place because you know it seems like the garage is pretty smooth. You know so knock on wood I know we have the remainder of the week. You know how that goes yeah I do and you know what speaking of the garage Honda 63000 miles the euro young lady calls me today and says that she has a power steering leak Well that's a that's a problem in our life I mean she probably has other things but maybe yes so I ask her will how do you know if she says well she was told elsewhere that she needs to replace it or have the phone call go what does she say when she close he says I need to get a price on a power steering stop right there why do people just like we can't give you a price over the phone how many of you understand that well yeah you're right so I invited her down to the shop so we can actually do a 2nd opinion digital invitation yes I do at least offer some of that famous coffee absolutely for her came down so elsewhere said she's got all this leakage on a wall Oma a 63 degrees and a Honda Yeah so as it turns out after doing our inspection the result will be a residue residual fluid from over fill and there was no leak Frank did not say. Oh my goodness well if you listen and you better give us a good review right now. We can sure I mean isn't that the case in you listening I get it we're trained. How much is that berber carpet we're trained how much is that car we're absolutely trained as consumers. Me that you don't think otherwise the 1st thing that we know is how much that's right how much and here's a mechanic have these guys and gals are losing their hair as they're on the phone like frazzled so I will invite you to take this into consideration simple when you call if you don't have a relationship no hugs type of situation with a good shop. You're learning you're trying to figure out a relationship here's a tip when you call how much does it cost to find out what is wrong with my car right now tell you something you say Well that sounds too fancy I'm not going to do that well then this is what will happen if you end up in the wrong hands how much does it cost because I have blah blah blah blah now you want it on price someone said $600.00 someone may tell you what you want to hear your forget that you are good at listening it's like a bad date she told me what I wanted to hear and then she disappeared in my right you're right you're listening know what I'm talking about why can't we just get as close to the truth because the truth well I don't want to preach will do your. Mechanic leave free. But it is a serious a point out you know listen you guys have been hanging with us for a very long time and we really we really want to arm you up now I'm not trying to tell you how to rebuild a carburetor there's other shows for that and some would wrench Nations about we want empower you so how much does it cost to look at my car now something like that the garage may say well there's a inspection she let's face it who's working for free in the back right now how many of us the well is free what do you get for free you guys going to send me hate mail I know it and I welcome it because the bottom line is that is the Stuart to the beginning of a relationship because you're going to get fan name gold now sorry I didn't mean to preach but you need to train up your wallet do we want to hear. But we want to hear you read you 10 ways Susan of course they tell me what I want to hear Well I mean if they're being truthful Rice by the way you've got somebody on the other line by way of a mechanic here she be honest with you they're fearful you know they want your business but they are just as fearful as you can guess but neither one of us know what I say is going on well my Uncle Louie said well we respect your Uncle Louie but we need to look at it and this isn't a case example this woman had a power steering leak somewhere else said you need this guy's following you need everything she's already taken out a loan to fix her car and here comes. Let's take a look at that's right we have coffee we have candy Anyway I don't want to get down into that but I'm serious about that speaking of which we want to just let you know about the show topic you know we struggle with it we're not professional radio people it took us about 10 minutes to get to the show topic hopefully we didn't lose it but here we go how many would you agree other than televisions is televisions are cheap everything has gotten expensive are we right yet things are gone expensive cars look at that new i Phone back in the day you would drop dead if somebody said you had to pay a $11500.00 for a phone Well that's the same situation happening in the service bays now you're saying Well Frank I just need a basic starter kit I can go to Sears I can buy me some Craftsman tools and I'm ready to go ranching how many realize that brake pedal fade that you got may not need a master cylinder need maybe an update a reprogram just like your phone so on today's show we want to dive in to the future of modern day mechanics or mechanics keeping up with technology and tools to fix today's vehicles on or to head to industry leaders and I when I say leaders these cats are leaders Scott Brown the diagnostic network and of course the talented Greg Buckley the book is all Ok We're going to chime in and talk about. How much does it cost for an ad which launched people with sophisticated technology what is happening there so I want you guys to stay tuned and we're going to come back with you're going to bring down a diagnosis that will get in as well as. A. Result of women to begin to join us on mechanics truly prepared for technology what is going on. In the service space they too prejudicial to. Technologies automotive software solutions auto repair shops that have bolt on technology software provide customer vehicle condition reports including photos and text real time digital reports multipoint inspections estimates and repair information at your fingertips info at bolt on technology dot com. Right although come back rich nation. For a channel that you guys are a good shot to your kids and it's on Saturday. 9.7 The neon family out there if you for tuning in and. Of course 87 balls and we can never forget Susie our podcast phone Yeah you guys are a bunch of rebels we heard from your own if you're on that podcast man give us a review good dad whatever it is name we take it all we're happy with it all we decided to just jump in because a lot of you lot of you you know whether you're on the forums or talking to your neighbor you're like well that mechanic Danny charge me $180.00 to look at my car and you know you get to talking the reality is like I think for years we got accustomed to where the average shop on the corner was when I do that for free I can check it because a lot of stuff was kind of a courtesy thing but with the advancements in technology which we cover periodically on the show Susie. Plays in a way technology wise yeah it is and you know what this is a good example I had a customer come in the other day actually said I pulled a couple codes after we finished testing we actually found 2 other codes Well that's the thing I mean I knew that we were let's bring in our gas because it would I think the cold pull him what an o.e. Deep into the web. Do you want to set up a gentleman I think I've got Mr Scott Brown Scott are you there I am here thank you so much Scott you've been on the show I do want to let the folks know that you are the founder of a professional forum thousands in fact I think it's tens of thousands of mechanics technicians collision folks there on a very powerful form to exchange information similar to an emergency room where doctors will exchange information on a network that quite frankly isn't a nationally diagnostic that work is an online community of industry professionals and Scott you are an a.s.c. Master certified l one technician you get over 35 years running in this industry and you are out of Southern California formally welcome to the show brother thank you for having me. Before we bring on Greg Buckley we just touched upon some things I think we should go right into what consumer goes down to the port housing the more not knock on the part houses and there is what they call you know a cold pool and people say well my coach told me this is there a deeper layer of information that's missing from that cold pool Scott Oh yes of course you know there's there is a plethora of technology available in these automobiles and really one of the things that you know listening to the beginning of this one of the things I really want to point out to the listeners and the people working in our industry there is there was a gentleman by the name of John he would who's a professor out of mit and one of our colleagues friends of my fam flow out of the Red Wing Minnesota really sharp guy you know he pointed out this quote that he made and he said that cars are everywhere they're one of the biggest most complicated products we use every day and if you think about that when a car doesn't work for you would you know what's going on or you've got to get a fix so yes there are deep layers of technology and it takes a lot of experience and knowledge and have a technician to stay on top of things to properly address and diagnose today yes some woods. Say Well this is a bunch of industry people that are hanging and of course they're going to say that I can go to my parts store but you know Susie you gave just a perfect example of the fact is that you know they're there quite frankly is a deeper layer and you know a lot of us want to give you peace of mind in maybe we'll do a little quick courtesy because you're frantic the check engine light we have a lot of clients that come in and they're freaking out that check engine light came on and they may not be of means to actually go and you know go to the parts also will give a courtesy a quick peace of mind let's bring in our Arwa Greg Buckley Let's bring a Greg Buckley you hang in with us about it I certainly am I think everybody very good I want to set you up up properly Greg Buckley Buckley's auto care is one of the oldest family owned and operated automotive repair centers in the state of Delaware he served in those communities out of Wilmington over 50 years in fact we had Mr Mr Gregg actually Mr Buckley how much dad's name Greg Sorry Gene gee we had seen. I think we did a hot rod show about a year and a half ago with a group Mr Gene Yeah yeah you sent out a picture to me Greg that you just recently made an investment and I just want to touch upon diving in just for a lot of folks that are listening that mean think that we just have like a volt meter or one of those you know code pullers you found on the midnight channel whatever on the Q v c. Tell us what's behind an investment Manda communicate with these cars now well probably the 3 of us or 4 of us would know firsthand the investment dollars are significant and there are particular cases you know we just invested 6 figures into not only that unit but a tweet a Lexus update it. Programming system and we invest of course our staff as well Elif ideas for the 5 something really well let's stop right there all the certifications let's get into that before we dive into this investment most understand the e.s.c. Automotive service excellence there's a series of tests but there's a whole lot more to that what does this tell us id. Well it's a watchman idea and it's a deeper level of. I should say you know how technician or shop is allowed to program a vehicle with information directly from the o.e. And it's very restricted it's not shareable it's something that you have to be certified in and it gets you to that level where it today's course most units are if you install that you have to have programmed to the car and if it's security related then you're going to need to be Alice id certified in order to get security information from the manufacturer download it properly and have a part properly functioning when the repairs make Scott Brown news do you need to see real quick I want to touch upon that Scott Brown the diagnostic network out of California is the master certified Elwyn technician do you see a lot of parts now that do it that they're not just you know install couple bolts bam bam bam a lot of stuff has got to be Program talk to us about that to complement what Greg is saying oh yeah cars today we in our you know I also have a workshop here today and we were programming a. Transmission Control want it all and it had to be identified the profile of all of those mechatronics or noise that are operating in that transmission have to be programmed into a computer so that everybody knows how to work like a like an orchestra right they've all got to know how to how to properly operate each other and push each other and yeah it takes a deep investment it's a continuous investment it's not something you just you know buy wants and move on you know it's a sophisticated world that we're living in today no doubt in Greg Buckley you mentioned you know having this ls idea for folks listening look you Cheetos of work or there's a problem with an alarmist So you've got a newer vehicle and you know traditionally years ago we would a call a locksmith boom boom boom It's all mechanical maybe there was a chip in you had the basic code a key most of you listening me understand and identify with that but now there's such a deep. Lovell oh great you just went on and made an investment on some equipment talk to us about some of this technology keep up in the days yeah I mean we bought a scan to a very. Sophisticated scan tool what is a scan tool sure folks that don't understand what is a scan tool Well schedule hours to not only access code but I asked you to go deeper into the repair or why that code occurred and where it's occurring from you know sometimes if you pull codes it's an indication of what may be what may have failed or in most cases it gives us a path to go either forward or backward on to give us you know our parameters what we use our our allies for our scan tool or digital scale scopes and and all the tools that we have at our disposal is to dig down and find out where that injury is is occurring where the code may be failing or where the wire may be next or what part is actually the culprit and that takes everywhere from you know analyzing from the point of view of a connector where most people think each who are in a poor coat backward through the primary system and then you've got to can that work which everything has to tie in Lee Scott what we're going to get into that Chen network is that control here and now we're put Scott I want to jump in and bring you in to compliment what Greg is saying are excellent. For you listening man and you guys are code pull some you gals out there code pulling and you say well of my mechanic in fact there's the midnight guy selling low code reader makes it look like you don't need a mechanic but I'm going to I'm going to lay it out to you right now here it is. Cold pull gives you that open door to the potential fault to a circuit data stream is where the experience comes in gentlemen you'll agree you're listening right now I can go to a radiologist an ob watched You Tube. And I got myself all versed on what I should be expecting but don't you think for a minute that x. Way isn't being deciphered by x. Ray tech think about this right so when you go out and get a cool dude are you truly uncovering the data the important data whether that's deciphered from a volt meter or a pico scope or now that's where a technician is going to come in save the day because he understands that data he understands how to read what truly is wrong Scott Brown It takes a lot of equipment talk to me about in your garage give us an example of a recent repair maybe that came in and that check engine light came on and boy you were kneedeep with the it looked like spaghetti hooked up to this car because he had so much stuff it was an example you know so we actually had a vehicle and that unfortunate had them to multiple shots and have multiple parts replaced because the codes that were polders or set indicated that there was a problem with the product or system Ok and so they kept putting total pieces on it and after we dug into it and examined it deeply we found connection problems and this vehicle actually had been in a collision at some time minutes in its life and when repairs were done the terminations of the connectors worn very well and that's what was causing the problem we didn't have to put any parts other than some wiring on this vehicle you know and that's where the code pull becomes a problem because people look at the code the code is just an indication of a condition finding the root cause that is where the magic and that really takes a skilled technician and someone that is continuously educating themselves and staying up to date with all the right information just like you talked about the break break condition not being operating or not operating because of a programming thing these are the things that a smart technician needs to analyze and look at. The entire situation and make sure that the proper repairs are being persuaded to have your council have put the vehicle back on the road and customers going to be in good shape for many many miles you know that's accurate it's it's cause it's Act It's taking the guesswork out and Greg you think our industry did a horrible job over the years strong parts of vehicles and now those that are are dropping out of the industry because they're not making that investment Tell me about that absolutely I think that you're going to see a lot of attrition occur in our in our space and for consumers and our listeners what that means is your maybe your favorite shop that you've been to your parents have been to and your uncle Louisa been to won't be around any longer because the owners of these are decided that you know inventing themselves is not in their wheel house if they don't have a desire for an a they don't have a succession plan that means that someone else is coming upon them so there's going to be a little bit of a drop out and of course like all trades today you know we're are experiencing a lack of talent you know we're telling this being home grown so labor shortage creates a little bit of a constriction in the way that we you know timeliness getting jobs done where you can go and for the listeners it's very important that you really have an interview with the service shop that you wish to go to or you want to do business with at the top of the show you talked about meeting your technician and asking the questions well how much to you know do a 1st level inspection to make sure that we we can build a relationship I trust you you trust me there's many times like we've all experienced We're going to phone call and it isn't how much for this Well my response to that is hey what's your 1st what's your name my name's Greg Ok what kind of car and we go through it and look you know we come out of those resolved it . Well I really don't know you don't know me I don't know your car I don't know the course from what you say we come in and have a little power let's talk about it and let's put a managed repair and maintenance plan for you you know that way you're shut not starts the relationship building because we're really going to need that I mean the consumer to more today it's more of course you know we're going to need to work with you and in that relationship like situation yeah well said and in all respect for you guys listening I get it and a lot of you guys have anxiety pockets are tight car repair could be expensive a would make it more expensive is when you when you start dancing around and it's soley a decision about what you heard someone is going to get you it's official they're going to get you because they said a price that sounded good you go in and it's a complete bamboozle In hindsight I do want to bring you back we are going to dive in a little bit about this controlled area network what the heck is this network in this vehicle how do we communicate. How do we move on in the future by way of investment and Greg I promise we're going to find out what you just invested in and we keep asking you that of course us Scott Brown of Automotive the diagnostic that never came in a session. Here grateful to. Hear you guys say type race nation it's. Part of 30 auto parts for scholars nationwide locations you know one of the problems that i can happen working in my garage is parts are delivered on time and the quality is apparent. Was yelling at me and my clients and likely not to come back with the parts of the already auto parts superstores amazing service knowledgeable counter folks the complete line of the original equipment parts that the prisoners desire to run install a pin on chip parts a phone dot com Check location is naturally near here parts of already. It's interviews from. T.v. Preacher he. Tried to get a new. Champ for the industry man I tell you what is a voice a reason and many. Getting through today's challenges is a modern day we have Greg Buckley Greg. Oh I mean really I welcome back and of course a Scott Brown understands the challenges he's a leader in the industry on the forefront of technology as well as painted forge Scott does a lot of work with the the automotive industry and helping his peers through whether it's an online course or through the diagnostic network if you're listening to any of these this show on a replay I invite you to get on to a diagnostic network an amazing professional online community leading those well those repairs that can be complicated we do need a network Welcome back Scott Brown. Thank you you know we talked about Well Susan has a question because we have an expert panel on right now yeah they're experts so this is going to be a tough one for you guys so we had a gal yesterday bring in her Toyota and she left us the key fob and when Alex went out to go unlock the door he couldn't unlock it so after several text messages back and forth she says Yep that's the key fob that's the only thing I have so as it turns out we sent Mark in the office to go to her office to see what else she had and she gave him the right key now as it turns out we had an apartment date opener is there a tool out there and I think that we could have used for this apartment gate opener to start this part. Are you saying that gave us an apartment gate open or rather than her key but after several text messages she swore that was the key so you got . A little Are you following me Greg. I think I think I think so may I go ahead Scott Brown go ahead and go for it Scott go ahead All right so I see we're probably confused but remind me of another situation we had a car come in here with no start crank no start and the customer found a spare key and tried to start the car and they forgot that at one time they had they lost the keys and had to have new keys program so that other key they brought it with was disabled from the vehicle so our galaxy had it so it's there's all kinds of all kinds of verbal 2nd well Ector day I'm thinking of the time that you guys wasted or burned trying to figure that out well I mean we were happy to do it but you know. The thing is this I mean costume a simple day with a key I mean you just had a little coal key and then the chip was introduced right g.m. And the past systems right those systems and the keys now in fact the locksmith industry all have you know in fact if you're listening you're a locksmith you need to do a locksmith show consists of fascinating stuff going on with that Greg talked to us so this controlled area network that you had mentioned sounds pretty fancy 100000000 lines of code on that f 150 I mean the 1st manned space shuttle I think only had but you know 13000000 Here's a poor guy on the corner of his garage trying to communicate with a 100000000 lines of code what is a controlled area network. Well it's it's instead of just one processor handling everything it's kind of broken out over you know it could be a multiple of like $14.00 to $20.00 plus or whatever however you how many modules are necessary to actually operate the car and they can operate independently and the same time they have to communicate between one another in order to have everything work as planned as the engineers plan so you know when you look for one fault it might not be where people think in a primary p.c.m. Like going to change a computer well it might not be the computer the primary computer the p.c.m. Or e.c.m. As we know it it could be one of the models of how to be placed where where the fault lies but what we need to do in the next level of testing or diagnostics or you know analytics is that we have to get into that network and we have to be able to Lake see the network and find out where these where these mishaps are occurring in order to find and fix so you know and I will tell you firsthand what a complicated it is I will tell you 1st hand Admittedly we're very transparent on the show we're not perfect we're always growing as a business and the training we have had an uptick I mean years ago we had to say by all our technicians 40 hours a year and you know everybody was good but boy oh boy Scott Brown these controlled area network systems that house these modules could you give us an example of what . Maybe a layman would have said Well definitely that was the that was that right side mirror that was broken and replace it but there was something else in the network that failed that he was not even related Could you give us an example of this network and how it can really really be complex and diagnose you know so just a little history that that controller area network was. Invented or founded by Bosch and I was back in the east believe it or not it's advanced quite a bit and basically you know its main purpose is so that messages from sensors can be shared rather than running wires to every every controller they can send these messages back and forth and share them but the bus system relies on a protocol to establish who who is more important who's message is more important and in some cases you may have a module that is on that network that may be going down for instance I know I saw something recently discussed where a blind spot sensor which is like a little radar you know in the right in the corner corners of the vehicle they're subject to a lot of road debris you know especially in the snow states you get a lot of corrosion and that corrosion ended up causing a no start condition on a vehicle Wow And and so that that really complicates things so can you imagine you know your callers are saying hey my car doesn't start how much for a starter right so now they're trying to get yes but wholly real problem is the deeper deeper issues now many of you listening right now would have never I know I would know 5 years ago that there's a car in there no start I mean it's incredible but it does speak to the importance of again we go back and we love you man you guys are calling us and you want to code pull an a you did it you got that little midnight our little cheapie thing with a bass mechanics and don't pay a mechanic we still love you because. We know you're confused We're trying on Fingal don't confuse insets some life Greg Buckley let's finally get because I think this is all related to this control their network who did invest in the next step give us an idea what did you invest in and don't tell us price but tell us which could you buy like 3 cars for you investment. Oh yes. Case in something but yes well you know we're at that point where our quickness we you know we review everything and we're at the point we were at the point where we had to reinvest and we purchased not only additional The auto alit the scan scan tool that you saw a picture of but also a set of a master set of transducer so that we can really technically get into the not. The heart of what the problem is with our peak of scope and that's a very good scope for those listeners out there and of course we purchased a brand new top of the y. Hunter alignment system with Belcher and time machine to accommodate the newer chassis setups the front ends and you know prepare for the future where you know the 1st step in what Ada brings Yeah we're going to touch upon a desk Yeah you made that investment today yeah yeah and so Mrs Scott Brown No diagnostic network menu doing a lot of great things for the industry pioneering the truth quite frankly there's a lot of noise man if you're listening and you think you can get on a You Tube in find a resolution like you can you bought a camera you know how you get you unbox the camera us and boxing video and it tells you what the camera does if you think you can do that to a 100000000 line code ruling beast down the road with these sophisticated systems good luck because it's not happening now I say that respectfully but this is the time right now and and you know Scott your knee deep in these forums with some leading technicians across the country and as well with the educational institutes and instructors you name it folks that are writing the tests that we are you know required to pass give us an idea of what you're seeing with a garage currently for our listeners that is really left behind what are they not investing in and if they're not please answer me this in the next year or so I got a garage I'm trying to tool up like a like a Greg Buckley What do I need to invest in to really stay on top of it gives me what I need to stay ahead go ahead you know I think if you look at the last 7 or 89 years of vehicles and technology that 6. Loaded you know the current current vehicle you know 2019 model year carries a lot of technology and we need to be aware of all of those systems and in fact a lot of the customers today are drivers don't aren't really aware of what's on there. When you get a car that comes in and it's got all these sophisticated systems and you're doing some regular service like Greg mentioned an alignment there may be other things that you're responsible for but you if you keep doing the same old thing over and over just doing alignment said on the road you may be doing a disservice So staying abreast to exactly what is needed reading the service manual making sure the software levels on the vehicle are up to date and make sure you're reading service bulletins because again like that like I said earlier the these vehicles are the most sophisticated product that you use in your life and these things are they gotta stay updated similar to how your phone stays updated unfortunately we're not at a point where they get updated over the air yet but there will be a time when that happens but now we've got a date them manually in the shop and make sure that they're getting the right the right formula data you know I was thinking about the Volkswagen win or Audi for that matter when we're doing a water pump you pretty much have to pull that front bumper that whole clip comes out now what lives in that bumper. What lives in a bumper How do you think lives in a bumper people you listening are saying well you should not that you need there's probably some foam in there that's like living in a bubble Well guess what their camera systems in that bumper and so did this we learned and this is where Frank is an operator and I share this with a lot of other garage owners most of them said well what's wrong with you you know that you you put that sucker back together you seal up the one a pot if you don't align the camera system you just introduced a pull permit pull Here's a mechanic that's not up to date saying well we just need an alignment No the camera systems have to be aligned Scott Brown talk to us about this camera system because that's a hot topic but right now in the industry the advanced driver awareness systems corrective lane change and things like that what's required and I mean with those camera systems it's a big to do yeah and it's it's all over the board I mean the big this is a hot topic right now because these vehicles are group of cameras radar so on our sensors light our sensors and and when you do certain services the manufacturer requires a certain process to be performed some manufacturers it's not that hard to do you basically put it into a real learn mode and you drive it down a certain roads and it can you know it will adapt itself other vehicles require a special jag and a place in your shop where it's completely level you've got it but the special targets in place and you have to the software to interface with the vehicle to tell the system to say look at the camera index yourself you know and you know it tells you that it's pastor or what have you then you need to take the car out and run a routine that's dictated in the service manual they may have an active test where they validate that the system is behaving the way it was designed to run from the factory so these things are sophisticated the other big challenge that I see here is that it is a big. Marketing piece manufacturers are Sony's vehicles with the safety systems but if you watch the commercials the messages are sending to the consumer I think is a little off there basically telling these customers that the system does all this stuff. Effectively the driver is ultimately responsible for the safe operation of that vehicle so that because it's a long ways away from driving itself on the pedals and the guy in the stern will disappear that's when it drives itself but when it has a pedal or pedals I'm on the stern Well you need to be in control you need to understand your system and how it behaves. Or else your you can enter that you can end up having a problem and then trying to pull try to blame it on the system so there's a whole other whole conversation on in fact we've covered that in fast rules about how I think we expect everything our dishwashers are blenders they're going to do everything we still need to be safe that is up to each one of us whether you're operating a blender or a sophisticated automobile we can never get comfortable with technology we've seen case examples. In other stories gentlemen we're going to take a quick short break bring you back I do want to speak to a lot of our youngsters out there a lot of younger technicians that are starting maybe it wasn't you know of just. We want to give them some advice about what should be learning before they hit the automotive shop or dealer will. Find information to arm them up with the technology of the future we're going to come back rich nation we'll see you next. Just don't want to box or you're just getting started diag dot net is a modern network for technicians and professionals in that automotive collision heavy duty you know we have a lot of technicians that listen to the show and of course Greg Buckley Buckley's auto care at a Wilmington grid give the people a website if they're in your neighborhood. Sure very Buckley's all the kids out I just want to make sure I got that out because you know I forget stuff you know I'm not a professional Really. Says hey we talked about all this network stuff it does get complicated you have been in this industry you're doing an amazing job one of the things that you do you embrace change us education and you're always growing and learning but prior to coming on board would you ever have imagined the level a sophisticated and more importantly how you're able to translate that to keep it simple for consumers consumers don't want to get complicated now they don't and you know to be honest with you I learned so much from the technicians the technicians really are a vital part of what I do every day and even you know the young lady calling this morning with the power steering pump it really has in him it's a simple imitation I let the technicians do all of that testing Yeah but as a consumer Yeah it can be overwhelming it is overwhelming and I'm afraid face and we say this respectfully I mean look consumer technician once we get together if you find our garage or Mr Brown's garage or Mr Gregg Buckley's or the thousands of other great garages let me tell you some you can get rid of the dentist the lawyer and all that you will have in the right place you will have a warm relationship a good technician a good mechanic a good group or who will love on you because that's what their small businessman need they've got to be in business have you ever thought of that listening have you thought about that when you're calling around and Suzy tell me to shut up because I want to preach but when you're calling around don't you think the good guys and gals want to scare you right don't you think they're in tune to price as well but when they're going blind over the phone it's anybody's guess and this is where there's a problem and I will add something. If I get a bad review. It's from somebody I didn't even do business with that they wouldn't give me a price screw those guys I went over here they gave me but up up up up up whatever the cases and I feel bad about that I really do but what am I going to do I'm going to threaten these are seasoned individuals getting a training investing in tools right so we welcome you back if you're just joining rich nation we do invite you to get on a Russian t.v. Get in a common search and let's carry this conversation I know a lot of you guys are listening to the replay down the road shoot in your 2025 you can be listening to show Scott Brown diagnostic network and Greg Buckley Buckley's all care great underscored in this business I'm a youngster I really like to entering and you know I mean I have a little bit of a sensibility with electronics and I really have a quick mind for these things what do I invest in has a come out to the industry what do I do. Well you know 1st off I think the industry is primed for the newer. For younger kids to come in it's full of electronics technology it's something that you can get on with you know back in the day when we were doing and building engines and hot rodding all over the place that is not changed into high tech stuff if I was just starting out the 1st thing I'm going to do is ask for a mentor if I put approaches shop who can teach me tools wise I would look at a small c There are a source code or even a multi-meter get familiar with reading voltage understanding the laws of technology whether it's electronics or whatever you know learn the basic laws of how things are very. That get you started from there you know you continue to educate your education is probably worth. Something you desire more than a tool you know and why or something grow surely a small socket set those kind of things to help you on the way but more importantly go to a shop that has a good mentoring program that wants to help you more and the better a lot of shops or a lot of shops do we have a Dell right now in the shop we think we go through maybe one or 2 a year and then they're off and running up to a community college. She's a young 18 real Susie tell me about Chloe give me her she's fresh out of high school and give me her perspective what will she do and yes so close doing great she actually has a young child her father used to work on Diesel's and she used to help him handle tools and whatnot so now she has a love for it and so she wants to go into the automotive industry and so she's shadowing with us and she's out in the garage and in the office and yet she says super excited to start school in January you have to Chloe I know you may be listening and all of you all of you if you're starting out it's was rough the beginnings messy Don't give up. Greg you hit on a very good mentor there's a lot of lot of garages out there that have mentoring programs and they didn't have to be fancy you can just not going to doors he listen I'm really interested can I spend 10 hours a week I won't get in your way this is the way to do it because otherwise if you come out of high school and you decide to get a job at a place that has you loving on a mop bucket or. You know jockeying car Scott Brown isn't that the truth the industry did a really bad job with a lot of folks that were interested in coming up in they just within 6 months said wow this is what this is about they got me moving cars and mopping floors we do stand up for years didn't we you know I would say so and it's sad right but let me let me just add a little more we have a quick name it we got a quick I mean a go ahead go ahead or I would say yes you're young you're getting the best continually investing yourself and I want to go back to what Steve Jobs you know Steve Jobs from Apple he made a statement many many years ago when he said he thinks everybody should learn how to program a computer study some programming because it teaches you how to think and I can tell you that you probably will be well off in the future if you learn a little bit of code programming for you can understand how computers are thinking and processing that's going to make your life easier as the technology begins to continue service flow very well said Very well said I appreciate you. Need another hour I do I do apologize about being brief I am always on or to spend time with my industry brother and sister in Scott Brown with a diagnostic network to get on a diag net is that right give us a website again diet dot net write Ok. Let's go to Millie in Indiana and she's worried about her husband is issues with the vision and also his heart rhythm are you there mentally and how old your husband and how much does he weigh. In about 180 as far as the Vision for him there was a study published in 2004 that had like 18000 people tested. And they showed that to have healthy vision you would need $4000.00 micrograms of Zia's and then or lutein and that the best American diet much younger group would get something like about $1200.00 micrograms so you pretty much guaranteed problems like your husband has it 65 or so what do we do about this well there's a product called I support and this delivers something like 9500 micrograms of disease and then lutein and so what you would do is he would take maybe 8 capsules at breakfast for about 6 to 8 weeks or till he sees no for the change when he doesn't see any for the change then he can cut to 3 caps per week Ok so that did take care of that issue for him so now let's go to heartbeat 1st of all the rhythm of the heart is controlled by Tarin an amino acid and magnesium and the most common deficient thing is magnesium and the reason it's common is that magnesium is held in the blood by adrenaline so if he has the highest stress if he has poor sleep if he is not getting 5 straight hours of sleep he's going to have some difficulty with producing enough adrenaline and then he'll excrete magnesium So what I recommend least for now is that he go on or magnesium $400.00 and it take a teaspoon morning and night that's $400.00 milligrams total and I think you're going to see that that's the key to the problem but that's like treating the symptom because will be to figure out what's happening with his adrenal glands and my guess would be that gesture in a study done in the 1970 s. By the Germans using a radio transmitter.
