>> i shook up the world! i shook up the world! >> muhammad ali back home this morning. his body arriving in louisville overnight, as we learn new details about the legend's final hours, his family by his bedside. >> i'm handsome, i'm fast, i'm pretty and can't possibly be beat. >> visitors flocking to his childhood home, as the world remembers the champ for his epic battles, inside and out of the ring. now we're hearing from those closest to him. his daughter laila joining us this morning. >> i must be the greatest! and good morning, america. happy monday. all weekend long, we've been celebrating that greatness. live look right now of the memorial outside the muhammad ali center in louisville, kentucky, the flowers piling up and the love pouring in for muhammad ali. >> this is the last public photo of ali appearing with carrie underwood. at fight night in april raising money to fight parkinson's and many people were posting pictures. and this is the one we remember. how we remember him. his daughter laila is going to join us. we'll begin with that severe weather affecting millions across the country right now. tropical storm colin is approaching the florida gulf coast with severe storms and flooding. abc's steve osunsami has more. >> reporter: authorities are handing out as many of these as families need, free sandbags. they've delivered about 10,000 to families here. clearly they are preparing for a flood emergency. the heavy rains from the tropical storm making a beeline towards florida started overnight. in sarasota, drivers had to make their way through flooded streets, tornadoes, too, time-lapse video shows a twister moving through jacksonville. this time no one was hurt. further north in indiana -- >> oh, my gosh! >> reporter: a tornado hit here, too, the rain that just keeps coming is bringing misery throughout the northeast and in western pennsylvania, the high waters trapped families in their homes and many had to be rescued by boat. authorities here expect this storm to take a similar path to a storm that hit here in 2012 that brought nearly 2 feet of flash flood waters. george. ginger, what's the satellite show? >> right now in the gulf of mexico but the bans are already starting to hit parts of florida along the gulf coast. early today. the storm doesn't hit until after dinnertime tonight. that's the timing. we have the tropical storm warnings it's imminent for places like gainesville, tampa, jacksonville. tropical storm watch up to charleston, south carolina. here's the path and the track with the timing on it of course, again, later tonight is when it hits the coast of florida, by tomorrow afternoon, already into the gulf stream, still staying strong outside of the carolinas. don't pay too close attention to the track because some of the heaviest rain can fall on the east side of it or to the right side of it. flash flood is my major threat. there are many more i'll talk about later guys. now to the world celebrating muhammad ali, tributes pouring in around the globe. president obama saying quote, he was the greatest, period. if he just asked him, he'd tell you, he'd tell you he was the double greatest. his body back in his hometown of louisville kentucky. he'll be laid to rest later this week and abc's ryan smith is there with much more. good morning, ryan. >> reporter: good morning, robin. since his death, thousands have flocked to this memorial site to honor one of louisville's favorite sons. with that son home for the last time, the final farewell begins. this morning, louisville's prodigal son has returned. muhammad ali's body landed in the city sunday evening. being driven through the streets of his beloved hometown. >> i can drown a drink of water. and kill a dead tree. wait until you see muhammad ali. >> reporter: ali, passing away at 74 friday. succumbing to septic shock due to unspecified natural causes after a decades-long battle with parkinson's disease. after a private service thursday t public will pay their respects friday. a procession right down muhammad ali boulevard to the cemetery where he will be laid to rest. and this arena will host thousands for a memorial service celebrating his life. those speaking at the service, longtime friends bill clinton, utah senator, orrin hatch and billy crystal. his brother breaking down at this church service. telling us he was shocked by the loss of his brother and best friend. did you expect it? >> i was shocked. i was shocked. >> reporter: ali didn't suffer in the end, his family says. his last 24 hours spent with them by his bedside but unable to speak. his daughter hana tweeted, they eventually whispered in his ear, you can go now, we'll be okay. the champ squeezing their hands. to say goodbye. his heart beating 30 minutes after his organs failed. at this memorial, flowers, cards growing by the minute and visitors flocking to his childhood home. president obama may have said it best, muhammad ali shook up the world and the world is better for it. spokeman announcing the king of jordan and president of turkey will speak. ali's wife and daughter expected to give yule lowgies and thousands expected to attend. >> all right, ryan, thank you very much. joining us now is muhammad ali's daughter laila. we really appreciate you sharing some time with us this morning. as we pay respects to your beloved father. i was just saying to you, do you feel the love, bringing you some measure of comfort, laila? >> i have been feeling the love before my father passed away. i can say, i'm obviously really sad. but i have been sad for a long time, just watching my father struggling with parkinson's disease. you hold your head up and saying he's doing great. i felt like he was trapped inside of his body. i have comfort in knowing that he's not suffering anymore. >> your father, the way he faced parkinson's so courageously. can you share with us your final, your final moments with your dad? >> well, my father -- thank god all of us kids -- you know, my father has nine children -- were at the hospital. all had the opportunity to be with him when he passed away. so, some -- you know, my sisters were saying islamic prayers. so, it was a very peaceful time and we sent him off in a very peaceful way and we were all there. that doesn't always happen, you know, when everybody has the opportunity to be there. so that was very nice. >> very important to have his family there by his bedside. when did you first realize that your father was more than a world champion, that he was beloved all around the world and had such a great power and influence over people? >> well, from a very young age, you know everywhere we went, we got attention, my father loved attention. made sure everybody stopped for him. we would be stuck places for hours. he was doing magic tricks. i knew my dad was special speaking out for people who couldn't speak out for themselves. i have so much respect for him. you don't see that anymore, not only in athletes. there's not that many men you can compare to my father. when i think of my father, i think of nelson mandela. >> he was a loving father you're a loving mother. love the pictures you shared. especially the one with your boy and little girl and your dad wearing the birthday hat. what do you remember most? >> that was his last birthday. we all, again, luckily, all his kids and grandkids were there. we were with him in arizona and you know, he was bright-eyed and alert. he had a really great day. you know, i cherish those moments. my daughter sydney has a really, really close connection with him. she's always i want to go see papa. and you know, i'm always taking her to visit. she doesn't know who he is. she's only 5 years old. she's been saying since she was 3. so that's hard for me and these why i have to stay strong and teach them about celebrating life and all of that because it's a part of life. so, i'm happy they were able to spend that time with him. >> many of us remember that time, '96 olympics, 12 years since your father had been diagnosed with parkinson's disease, to see him light that flame, what strong message did that send to others, you think? >> he's angel. just to hold that torch and be shaking and not hiding his sickness and just showing that strength that he still has. he embodies so much. it was all in that one moment. people weren't expecting it. this man transcends everything there is and everybody just loves him. so, there's not anybody else like him. i don't think there ever will be. >> your father is going to be remembered for many things. i was rereading his memoir over the weekend and i like how he closed how he would be remembered. he said i guess i'd settle for being remembered only as a great boxer and a champion. and wouldn't mind if folks forgot how pretty i was. that was your dad. >> classic. >> classic muhammad ali. i'm glad you have those memories to cherish as many of us do. laila ali, always a pleasure to see you. all my best. >> thank you. >> take care. >> thank you, robin. i appreciate it. >> she was saying, a big tribute for him in louisville and she said her father was talking about it, he said, 10 million is not going be enough. not even 10 million. his exuberance and his love of life. >> an angel with a real powerful punch, i loved that. moving on the race to the white house. ahead of tomorrow night's big showdown between hillary clinton and bernie sanders in california. a trump super pac unleashed its first blistering attack on the clintons. as trump faces criticism over comments about judges. abc's tom llamas has the latest. >> reporter: donald trump not backing down or backing away from his view that a judge in one of his trump university lawsuits is biased against him because the judge is mexican-american. >> if you're saying he can't do his job because of his race, is that not the definition of racism? >> no, i don't think so at all. >> reporter: federal judge curiel gonzalo was born in indiana. his parents from mexico. >> this judge is giving us unfair rulings. now i say why. i'm building a wall, okay, it's a wall between mexico -- not another country -- >> he's from indiana. >> he's of mexican heritage and he's very proud of it. >> reporter: in interviews trump calling his reasoning commonsense and going even further. >> if it were a muslim judge did you feel they wouldn't be able to treat you fairly? because of that policy of yours? >> it's possible, yes. >> reporter: many top republicans don't agree. newt gingrich blasting him. >> this is one of the worst mistakes trump has made and i think it's inexcusable. >> reporter: speaking of mistakes, hillary clinton admitting some fault of her private e-mail server on "this week" with george. >> i would say it's a mistake i wouldn't do it again. i would say the rules weren't clarified until i left. >> reporter: clinton and rival bernie sanders both in california on the eve of the last round of contests in their primary season. >> i believe the republican nominee should never get near the white house. >> reporter: but if hillary clinton wraps up tuesday with big victories she'll have to play catch-up with trump, already in general election mode. super pac out with this new stinging ad, it undercuts hillary with bill clinton. denying he had a sexual affair with monica lewinsky. >> i did not. >> i did not send classified material. >> not a single time. >> and i did not receive -- >> never. >> any material that was marked or designated classified -- >> i never told anybody to lie. >> reporter: and hillary clinton announcing a bit of good news, daughter chelsea close to giving birth to baby two. clinton saying it's going to happen some time early this summer, george. let's get to this with matt down. another win in puerto rico for hillary clinton. let's take a look at the delegate map right now. within 25 votes of those 2358 delegates she needs. certain to clinch it tomorrow night. the sanders' camp, what do they do after they close ranks, concede or fight on? >> homage to muhammad ali, way behind on points, it doesn't matter if you win the last round. i think that's all that bernie sanders is counting on. winning california and keeping that momentum going. i don't think it matters alt this point. everything's about unity. how quickly hillary clinton can unify the party. because she knows she's going to clinch tomorrow night at some point early in the evening. >> trump has already unified the republican party but even as he has you're seeing real agony. is there a force to answer about judges and other things. >> it's complicated in the course of this. it's like having johnny manziel as your starting quarterback and not being able to fire or get rid of him. he's a great talent. but you don't want to wake up with every day. and that's what they're dealing with. let's go to amy with the other top stories. starting with the breaking story out of phoenix. police are on the scene of a deadly shooting at a motel 6 in phoenix. the man walked in, opened fire, killing two people and critically injuring a third and carjacking two vehicles while trying to escape. police say he later shot himself and no word yet on a motive. overseas a rare attack in jordan, an important ally in the fight against isis. government officials say terrorists attack an office near the capital of amman. killing five employees, the attack comes on the first day of ramadan. and online group said it hacked into facebook ceo mark zuckerberg's linkedin, twitter accounts and pinterest. his passwords, apparently not too complicated considering he's a new dad, but we're not going to disclose it here. you can kind of figure it out though. and a brazen thief caught on camera, no monkeying around here. take a look at the suspect. he or she we're not sure sneaked into this jewelry store in india, pulled open the cash drawer and grabbed $150 before making a clean getaway. apparently that buys a lot of bananas. he went for the cash, smart monkey. >> i didn't know you were going to go for the bananas line. >> right there. >> i just did. shall we talk basketball, everybody? >> well -- you know, he's a man who was confident when he spoke. he was able to back up everything that he spoke about and which gave me courage to move up and try to be a champion like he was. >> and to stand up for yourself, that's something that he taught all of us to do. jeremy, many superstars, evander holyfield only five-time heavyweight champ. you're talking about michael jordan and tiger woods, but ali the global impact he had, how did that happen, jeremy? >> well, robin, from the very beginning he was popular beyond these shores, just a couple of days he won in february 1964, defeating sunny lester in that huge upset, he went to africa, he went to nigeria, he went to egypt, he laid the foundation then for his global popularity. he identified himself as african. he stood in opposition to the u.s. government at least in terms of the vietnam war. that gave him credibility. that gave him legitimacy in parts of the world and he quite literally took the world heavy weight champion around the world and made it globally. he fought in zurich, he fought in manila. he put the world in the world heavyweight championship that no one else had ever done before. >> and jeremy, something else that we had never seen before he was a self-promoter. now today's athletes try but he was a first back in the '60s and '70s. >> he was brash from the beginning and he liked self-promotion, he liked to tell everybody how great and how pretty he was. he learned that from wrestler gorgeous george. he was doing a radio appearance early in his career. he was be typically cassius clay at that time, brash. he didn't understand until gorgeous george talked about how he was going to kill his next opponent. he was going to murder him, massacre him, he was the prettiest of all time. he was the best of all time. he said i'm going to incorporate that into my act. of course no one ever did it better than ali. many things that he did that made him less popular of course, which included inducted into the armed services. >> right. that was all muhammad ali. and we spoke with laila ali in the first half-hour and the '96 olympics in atlanta, atlanta was your hometown, it was thought you were going to be the one. you even thought that. it was a big secret, wasn't it? >> definite a big secret. the most important thing when i found out it was ali i knew that was the passing of the torch, because it was unbelievable all the work he had done. >> yeah, it was very, very deserving. it certainly was. jeremy, i had the privilege of working with your father dick schaap and i know you and he spent some time with ali. what is your favorite muhammad ali story jeremy? >> robin, i think back to 1995 and frank bruno and mike tyson were fighting for the second time and we were at a party with ali watching the fight. some women fighting on the undercard. my father turned to ali and said, champ, what do you think of women fighting? ali whose voice who had turned raspy but so quick-witted. he turned to us and said, i only like it when they're fighting over me. >> the stories go on and on. >> nobody else could come up with that. >> you got a smile out of evander holyfield with that one. thank you both so much. >> thank you. let's get to amy with the big board. coming up on the big board, huge outrage this morning over a college athlete's sentence after he was convicted of sexual assault, his victim's powerful statement in court. what's going on with richard simmons? concerns about the fitness guru after he was hospitalized and the question getting big boos at the miss usa pageant as a new winner is crowned. the miss usa pageant as a new winner is crowned. what if one day everything just stopped going wrong? (announcer)you can quit. for free help, call 1-800-quit-now. time now for the big board. team of insiders to weigh in on today's top topics. we begin with the outrage on a six-month sentence imposed on a former swimmer. he was convicted of sexual assault. his victim read a powerful victim statement. it's gone viral, more than 4 million views. dan abrams joins us now. let's start with that outrage. was the sentence too lenient? >> it was lenient. he was facing up to 14 years. prosecutors asked for six years. he asked for 4 months. the judge gave him six months. let's keep in mind that's exactly what the probation department recommended that six-month sentence. doesn't mean you shouldn't criticize it. the reality is that this judge accepted the probation department's recommendation of a six-month sentence and so when people are looking at this case, thinking about this case, getting angry about this case, it's not just the judge it's the probation department as well. >> dan, i want to read part of what the victim said, the fact that brock was a star athlete at at a prestigious university should not be seen as an entitlement to leniency but an opportunity to send a message that sexual assault is against the law regardless of social class. we know the message was heard, it was viewed. will anything be done with that? >> her statement was so eloquent. this case is getting so much attention because of her eloquence and her comments have been shared so much. so, i do think that's going to have an impact. i think she's having an impact with her words, her advocacy and her frustration at this sentence. this is one of those cases where it resonates beyond the courtroom where the impact can be felt in other courtrooms where people remember, remember that case about that stanford student, i think this one will have that kind of impact. >> the power of the court of public opinion. dan thank you very much for that. now to fitness guru richard simmons, he was just hospitalized and then he released this weekend after he exhibited bizarre behavior. larry hackett from "people" magazine joins us. what are you hearing about this? >> i spoke to his publicist last night. he said everything was fine and richard was home. later on they released a statement that richard said he was dehydrated over the weekend. that's why he was taken to the hospital. he issued a warning that summer is coming and make sure you're taking your liquids. this comes after several months of questions and concerns about what's going on with him. there was a story in march coming from a former personal assistant who claimed richard simmons' house keeper was keeping him under wraps, that she was practicing black magic. all kinds of outrageous claims. no one knows if this is true. the facts are he has not been seen in the public for two years, he has been suffering from some knee injuries. he's told the public he doesn't want to be outside. whether or not this is voluntary or under duress we just don't know. >> we did a couple of skype interviews after that article came out. it seemed like a hostage video at times. you're saying, there's no way to know exactly what's going on with him. >> hollywood has had cases like this. the casey kasem case. the sumner/redstone case. to some degree is sumner redstone case. we don't know are these serious or more like fighting in downton abbey? at the age of 74. his body touching down here in louisville sunday evening and being driven through the streets of his beloved hometown. ali spent his final hours with his family by his bedside. >> sometimes we're so negative when we talk to ourselves. we hear a friend say, like, oh, i feel like i look bad and i feel like i'm unattractive. your friend will always build you up. so, talk to yourself like you would to someone you love like yourself. >> do you have a mantra that you advised to people, three simple sentences or even one simple sentence? when you look in the mirror. >> i am enough, that's it. i am enough. if you need to put jewelry on, if you need makeup or sun glasses, in addition to what you already are. >> i am enough, i love it. talking about clothing, any advice on what to wear and not to wear? >> so, following my plan will help your kids develop a healthy relationship with food and avoid weight issues later on in life. >> some of the things you should do, starting a very early age, 6 months. >> skip the baby food aisle. it's healthier and less expensive to make baby food at home. at 6 months of age, start with scrambled or hard-boiled eggs, a great source of protein and iron, important for an infant's brain development. >> that's fantastic. >> we have yogurt here. babies love yogurt. i love it because it has calcium. >> avocado. >> avocado's a healthy source of fat for brain and heart development for all ages. supereasy to puree it. feed your baby, they might make a funny face when they eat it. it can take at least 10 to 12 times for a child to accept a new food. so, you want to keep showing it to them and let them help prepare it. throw food and veggies to make smoothies. you can make cute shapes out of fruit and you can steam and cut veggies into tiny pieces and dip them into hummus. >> i got my kids liking some of this. we have some audience questions. we have rachel from connecticut. go ahead, rachel. >> good morning. this is santino, he's having some trouble with orange veggies specifically, sweet potatoes and carrots. what are some tricks to introduce these foods into his diet successfully? [ cheers and applause ] >> he's been hard at work all morning helping our viewers and he's busy, in the middle of shooting his new show. buddy, thank you. how many seasons is it now? >> now, we just signed up for 9 and 10, so, going strong. >> we're going to help out victoria. >> absolutely. >> tell us what happened here. >> i was making this cake for my nephew's first birthday, all of a sudden, the tiers started collapsing and slipping everywhere. i didn't know what to do, so, that's where you come in. >> honestly, a couple of mistakes people make at home you can't just stack a cake on top of each other. because of the fact that you have to put some support in it. gravity and weight will make it sink. one thing you have to do is take little straws, cut them into sizes and if you don't have straws you can do like chop sticks or different things like that -- actually, this is the wrong size, let me cut this a little bit. so, we cut this so it's right -- oops, we're going to stick that in. we're going to take a little bit of buttercream, this is going to be the glue to make our tier stick together. so, i'm going to take this and each cake needs to have its own cardboard underneath. okay, so, we drop that on there. now this thing's not going anywhere. that's it. it can stand up, no problem. and not too much icing. too much icing weighs it down and if you're using buttercream, refrigerate the cake periodically, that will firm up the butter in the buttercream. think about a stick of butter out of the refrigerator, it's nice and stiff. icing is the same thing. >> all right. >> thank you. >> before we get to henry, oh, henry, i have been waiting to say that. we have a twitter question from ann, is there a trick to getting the same cupcake shape throughout the entire batch to make them even? >> absolutely. use an ice cream scooper to scoop out the cupcake batter and then pour it in. >> about how high? >> you always go three-quarters of the cupcake wrapper. so, it's got room to expand and another great trick, if you want flat cupcakes so you can really decorate, lower the oven temperature by about 25 degrees. >> what does that do? >> that's going to actually keep it from popping and ridesing. if you want a dome on a cupcake or a muffin, put it the oven at 375. flat in the evening, 350. >> we're learning so much. okay, henry, what was your cupcake fail? what happened here? >> i was making strawberry shortcake cupcakes for my girlfriend's graduation. i tried to google it, and that didn't work. i failed on that. >> i hope she didn't break up with you after those. i'm teasing. i'm teasing. >> come on. >> a for effort. the trick was, i think you baked them with a jelly in the batter, okay, you have to bake the cupcake fully first, okay, and then take a paring knife and hollow out the middle so you have a little space for the jelly. and then use the piping bag to kind of fill the center and what's great about this -- don't be afraid to use a piping bag because the piping bag will actually make it easier to inject it inside. but you can do caramel, ganache, apricot, anything you want. and then we're going to put a swirl of buttercream. come on, you can do it. you can do it. come on, henry, redeem yourself. get in there, amy. little strawberry on top. >> come on. >> come on, man.
