So I watched the New Hope special edition and the only 2 things that bug me about it from anymore it's been a long enough time now that the only 2 things that still bug me about it are of course the hand not shooting 1st debacle thank you that must have the show well it changes the whole nature of the character it does write it's not just a minor thing huge because Hans Solo went from being a scoundrel who would shoot you rather than talk to you to hero the rebellion a great character or took away the right guy or progress of the character I think Exactly and it's just ridiculous it just doesn't make any sense at all right I'm grito I'm 2 feet from you and I'm going to shoot the wall it just makes Yeah no since. The only thing that bugs me I really hate the scene where they where they have gone talking to job before he's getting on and walking across his tail and job of the hut is not a buffoon character not a. That in the answer have said it's cool for me to push that out as a special podcast so I'll push that conversation element bright wise or soon as a podcast in addition to the show so the bleeding cool head and there's other places that reported this but leading cool reported like last weekend in Marvel artist r d n c f hit anti-Christian in Jewish messages in this week's X.-Men comic Ok now comics are also known for social commentary Ok that's not the issue here and what the artist did was without Marvel being aware of it or without the writer being aware of it put a bunch of stuff in the background art with his own personal ideology all right including. Like. Kitty Pryde is Jewish Yes Ok So there's a scene where over like that you just have to see the perspective of the comic book over one shoulder of her says jewelry which Jews in some people think writer rich into you know on the other side it says to 12 and that's like on a on a on ing of a sort to 12 is a callback to this Indian Asian uprising that happened like a year or 2 ago it's a bit it's almost a member of the Arab Spring that well it's Indonesia it's a big it involves like a Muslim protest All right I'm Ok and I explain this to me because I only heard of this yes in an ancillary fashion right and then there's another scene where they're playing baseball and Colossus is up to bat in his shirt has a Muslim verse on it and that verse basically says don't have non Muslims as your friends who are leaders and a big part of this too 12 outrage and stuff that's going on is because that area I've been in the genre has a Christian governor Ok the long story short is. People have stuff that they're concerned about in life I have stuff I'm concerned about Chair this guy has stuff and he's you know he's like This isn't about him being a Muslim this is he's an Indonesian Muslim he's very open about that this is about him inserting this stuff into his employees or employers product right yes so it came to light and he even came to light like on Facebook in social media he was bragging about it he was sending messages to friends I hate make sure to see this and all that really caught up with me Ok And people said brought it to their attention and within a week Marvel clamp down on it he's fired that guy that was my 1st one that he's gone and he basically posted you know my my career in comics is over and today and you know absolutely no one will touch him with a debt but kind of not a mainstream yet not a mainstream No he can sell for right Ali was what he did was he used his employer's stuff as a 1000000 genda yeah even if you don't very much hurt Marvel yeah ik specially because Marvel's under fire for some other stuff right now Ok so I don't marvel I'm like that's you know you handled it now. You know Mitch right wiser went into some stuff on Thursday that he's upset with Marvel that there's a lot of local talent in America yeah the end Marvel is purposefully going out and recruiting people from all over the world I kind of have to agree with him on that yeah and well it's also he's like not only are we getting artists who maybe do or don't understand your core audience but also it's like the i-t. Thing they're working for 10 bucks an hour when America you know so it's a problem anyway you know I'm as you know. Outside of the show by call I can be pretty politically vocal right yes so I'm not against that right and then a Muslim or Christian or an atheist or a Jewish person or a Sikh has every right but what he did was disrespectful and dishonest and he you know used a beloved comic book to a lot of people to further his own stuff got nailed for it he's gone I agree so I don't lay that at Marvel speed at all I would have to. If I was editor in chief if I was king of the world of Marvel Comics and this happened and write big notes to me I'm finding out about it how you know after the fact well after the fact let's not forget that comic books are drawn written and drawn months in advance right for printing so right I have I would have to ask who is the editor and the assistant editor on the slum ics I feel like that up the references are so obscure maybe that you wouldn't know I don't know maybe when they're caught it is all those things people had to point out was our now Colossus is t. Shirt that's the one thing I may have prayed what is that yeah because it looks like you know like when you see John 316 Yeah that's a Christian reference Yeah and it's kind of you like that was like a verse Yeah you know yeah right it's like us 5 Colin something I have to go look it up I don't but I would I would put maybe not in the entire blame but I would but I would during the assistant editor and the editor. Those books as well for for I mean yeah I mean surely they're not looking for a thing like that in the end they are different probably doing it in such a subtle fashion that it clearly flew under or I think about the right are things that the writer Oh yeah I talk about the story now all they're talking about is this art that the guy pulled Yeah right in comics is they you know it's the writer and the artist we're doing I got to be honest yeah as as staunch as I am on some issues. I'm rather forgiving I think it would have been Ok even to say Ok dude you're suspended off Marvel books for like 6 months you can come back but we're going to publish an apology from you like in our books or something like that and write one strike you're out is kind of harsh you know so I don't know I would have even been Ok with that really I'm not I'm I'm frankly I'm a shocked that you wouldn't give them that much wiggle room has I because events. As magnanimous as I am do you got Yes well I'll show you Mike I've been in I've been given a lot of grace in my life and I've done dumb so I don't know how this guy is I can dig I've done stuff at 18 or 19 that if I could go back to my younger self who were different people back then oh I don't know what I'm saying is I don't blame Marvel for getting rid of him yeah he did he deserved some sort of action. You know but if they just said look he's he's off books for like 6 months and we're going to publish an apology and it won't happen again again and I wouldn't have I would've had an outcry for me and just as a quick follow up I kind of agree with Mitch because as a former comic book artist to go writer myself that deco That's right. There are scads of talented that are lots of people in this in this in this country that that Marvel doesn't necessarily need to extend a hand right cross the ocean right well kids comics is it is for the most part it is an American industry and if you know you know if you're having trouble finding people at home or maybe say look we're going to be like you know 90 percent at home and then will you know do a program to bring in other artists around the world or I don't know site then so my favorite artist out there is a couple of Brazilian artists yeah I really enjoy there are a couple of essential American artists that I completely enjoy. But at. Same time I I'm kind of in a self preservation and I haven't done I don't work in comics and 17 years right that's good but that out there but I. I would say that in that time I have seen so much more strong 10 talent. To to that kid that can be recruited. That that would that would be much easier I think. To to develop. I'm going to go back into the past a couple years and then we're going to come to the present Ok so 2 or 3 years ago I personally started noticing a tryna Marvel Comics and I was like man you know I'm am I am I being overly reactionary or my you know is this were really what I'm seeing or whatever. And you know it was it was different stuff just what they were doing with the characters the storylines or whatever and what it comes down to is again Comics has American mainstream comics have a deep tradition of social commentary Ok using characters to talk about social issues Sheriff you of course have the famous were speedy becomes a junkie in rice economy it is the comics you've got where. Green Lantern Green Arrow went across that trip across the country to heart the hard traveling heroes I recommend you get trade paperbacks adopted out there of course. You know Jordan is more of a conservative and all the Queen the green arrows very liberal and yet you know there and then of course you've got Captain America at one point said I've got to feel what does it even mean to be American any more and he went on his journey in fact one time he became Nomad and so you've got a deep history of comics a lot of X.-Men with social commentary right it's it could be argued that the entire core concept of X.-Men with this because there are Metairie right yeah well it was a combination of what's it like to hit puberty and then also what's it like to be you know gay or whatever and outcast Well back in the sixty's it was roughly a black black rock like to be on the fringe of society yeah right and to protect a world that hates you and fears your Whatever Well yeah and of course when they did the X.-Men giant sized X.-Men number one. Builder he actually called talk to Dave about this couple days ago they were he launched it with a very diverse group a character that isn't right that is completely correct so you know there's no I'm not against representation I'm not against social commentary I'm not against any of that I'm not against hey we need stronger female characters we need gay characters we need Muslim not against any of that. At all you need to represent the society that you're in you're ramping up a big preamble here do well yeah I sense a but yes Ok I am against when it goes from social commentary into social conditioning or social engineering Oh I see and that's where the tail starts wagging the dog well example example. Ok here's a good example 2 or 3 years or a couple of years ago they had ice man who has always been a womanizing kind of character he's had girlfriends he's had it was had big crushes on Marvel Girl to the point where he would want to fight you know Margot's. Boyfriends or whatever. Always established to be. A a heterosexual male he was but he bird dogged quite a bit right he was he was he was he would get a cent and he would be right he was a pointer suddenly 2 or 3 years ago Iceman comes out as gay really I didn't even know yeah see I've been out of the loop Yeah MacBook Why's that and focusing mostly on the right in t.v. Stuff now but Ok so so you come out the Drake is deviate now right well yeah he's gay All right right and so the thing is this is where you hijack a character for a social agenda rather than introducing a character they can stand on its own or yeah or take a character who you've never explored the romantic and perfect example Renee Montoya from d.c. Comic Oh yeah nobody knew anything about her yet and so they had her become lesbian she was light slate Anyway I'm fine with that yeah yeah right introduce strong characters that stand on their own gain a female whatever or take secondary characters and give them more prominence in but don't co-opt existing characters and the other perfect example of this is. Suddenly And I understand cosmic cube this and I get all that but suddenly last year the weekend before Memorial Day weekend suddenly Captain America's hell hijra Well you and I talked about that dude last night and spent a dime on Marvel comics since then Ok yeah I'm that was my next question actually because I remember you being literally so upset about it that you yeah and I talked about it before you know it before we even talked about it on the radio done done because what you know I didn't do yeah great video actually my high not rated video ever is like on You Tube 20 something 1000 I just went berserk Yeah and that was not scripted I know turn on the camera and started you know if felt really coming behind me and names have come out of that yeah yeah so anyway before I decided oh you making him me brother yeah you know you made some sort of empathic also that I have made and I haven't made it as a Me Yeah I don't know well it's not always going to be I mean I know but that will get shown through in a comic book behind you but what frickin history are you talking to Matt Yeah you got me the best man but it was also Yeah but anyway I will say this is thumbs up versus them it's like 2 to one on the thumbs up on that a lot of people seem to agree with what I said totally So before I said that's it I didn't disagree with it that way yeah I appreciate that yeah you know I would understand if you did because you know writer Nick Spencer was like very concerned about Trump So even though he was even quoted what happened he's like I'm the most hated America but yet Trump's running for president now he's totally doing this because of the right wing of the of the what do you call it the neo conservative wing All right sure that's his response to the Op Right Ok Ok so he said that as much himself but so I went back before I before I decided to stop buying Marvel Comics I went did some research and the editor in chief of Marvel comics right now is just to name Axel Alonso. Ok know that right so he's like I we got it he's like he said this a couple of years ago he said traditionally writing comics has been a hobby. For white guys. And that's got to change one thing right so once he took over suddenly there's 2 Spider-Man once one is which a biracial kid name Miles morale is not going to go on record I like Miles Morales a lot of people that I loved Miles Morales in the Ultimate Universe Yeah but I don't like this trying to have your cake and eat it to have to Spider-Man running around in the same Marvel Universe but it is what it is fun in the same old people's multiverse trap that d.c. Fell into right before in the before the in the wake of the crisis or I am so you've got a biracial kid and he's half black half Hispanic I like Miles Thor is a white woman one of the Captain America is a black man the other Captain America is an agent of right wing group Hydra Miss Marvel's Pakistani American she's Muslim and Hawk is a Korean American Now how could you not start getting blowback on that. But none of that stuck though right no they're still that's that's been the new norm now remind Here's the chickens are coming home to roost and Ok that was a couple years ago now let's fast forward Ok that's yeah yeah yeah let's me up there now let's fast forward a couple of weeks ago Marvel had a retailer summit and where they talked about how things were going and this website called I c v 2 dot com posted what they heard and one of the things was cells are going. Down Yeah right big surprise there I could've told you that you know I didn't even call for a boycott I decide I personally yeah I did I remember I remember so you you were speaking only for yourself you were right you weren't leading a charge right now exactly so. So sales are going down so they have this retailer summit so Marvel has missed the point here was their official statement on it already I'm reading what we heard was that people didn't want any more diversity taking They did not the case yet they didn't want female characters out there that's what we heard whether we believe it or not. We saw the sales of any character that was diverse any character that was new Our female characters anything that was not a core Marvel character people were turning up their nose against. So they've missed the point you know the point is you're disrespecting a stablished characters in 50 something years of history by trying to further a political and social agenda that's the point that they're not getting Nobody has a problem with with Captain Marvel being Carol Danvers nobody here would love that yeah yeah no but the point is when you take the whole and suddenly he's a Korean American because we need more Koreans in comics or when you suddenly take Bobby Drake and say he's gay that is the problem now this is this feels like a a company wide. Emerald Knight Yeah. When they kill how Jordan did back in college when they turned to how Jordan in who Bill and and the incredible backlash that happened on that back in the ninety's was incredible in this one though they replaced a white guy with a white guy well sure right but my point is the core point is they they took a character that had already been established as being well then I know I like what they did with Jordan Don't get me wrong right and I was in contact with the editor of Green Lantern I remember one time did you were you were card carrying member of how Zimmer old advancement team actually I am I think they are it took a lot for me to get that because I was a very vocal opponent of theirs for were a long time off but I but the but the mostly the reason why is because this is never going to be permanent This is literally a stunt this is I mean yes they they they crapped all over your favorite character and you can even substitute any more Bouckaert or for how Jordan in this respect including got 2 minutes all right yet but my point is this. As long as Marvel is cranking out movies with the character her character core characters who are who they are. Are and have always been classically. That way right and are making hundreds hundreds of millions of dollars on these movies. If the comics will reflect the box office and right and everyone in the ship will be righted and one where one will help a bit but Marvel is has tried to make this the new norm because like I said they're trying to nor when you go from social commentary into social conditioning that's when you hijack the ship because you're trying to turn the can you know and there they want this to normalize all this stuff to it's the thing with Help the thing with emerald Knight and we've got about one minute.
