((dave courvoisier)) >> you could see up to 200 meteors an hour. which is about double the normal rate. let's start with katie boer in for tedd tonight./// ((katie boer)) another nice but cooler day across the valley...we did briefly climb to 102 -- but that very brief with most of our afternoon spent in the upper 90s. ............... lots of blue sky but we do have a few clouds this afternoon -- cells south of boulder city and searchlight -- instability stemming off some of the sporadic storms we've seen in nearby mohave county. but those storms have pretty much winded down here this early evening. ...................... frontier flight monkey that caused a ruckus at mccarran international airport tuesday night. this is security video from john glenn international airport in columbus, ohio... of the monkey and its owner at a t-s-a checkpoint. frontier tells us the man did not alert them ahead of time that he would be flying with the service animal... and that he smuggled it on the flight in a duffel bag. airline officials alerted the airport ahead of landing at board. metro responded, but determined criminal charges were not warranted since the man provided documentation for the animal./// ((dave courvoisier)) an alarming reminder that fun doesn't always mean safe. in this week alone: three accidents are highlighting the dangers of amusement parks. 8 news now reporter shakala alvaranga took a closer look at what procedures and regulations are in place for the valley ... and if parents should be concerned. shakala? ((shakala alvaranga)) >> dave, the death of a child on sunday safety conditions at water parks. while regulations differ from state to state, we found out locally what is being done to keep your children out of harms way. each year hundreds of thousands of people ... come to wet n wild. and with so many visitors ... and more than 25 attractions to see, safety must come first. ((annette dawson-owens/parent: "we have no place to go but up so we need to ((dave courvoisier)) >> the state committee in charge of overseeing the re-organization plan is scheduled to vote whether or not to move forward with these regulations next week. and if all goes as planned....the changes will start in the 2017-2018 school year./// ((christianne klein)) the man accused of sexually assaulting a hotel employee inside the boulder station told police he used drugs and doesn't remember what happened... according to an arrest report. ivon major's mother turned him in after seeing surveillance video on the news punched the victim in the face and body multiple times before fondling her and forcing her to perform oral sex. major reportedly ran away after a co-worker called out to the hotel employee. the man did not admit to the sexual assault to detectives, but said he used heroin and meth that night. he faces multiple charges./// ((dave courvoisier)) all new at 11... an initial appearance for one defendant in a double murder and arson case was postponed today... so that two co-defendants in nevada this week from the philadelphia area... where he was arrested on a warrant in the killings of mario jimenez and angelica jimenez. police say the victims were tied up and left to die in a burning home in the northeast valley in november. darrin wilder and hakim blanche-jones are also accused in the case. watson's court date has been reset to tuesday./// ((dave courvoisier)) we continue to dig for answers into how seven puppies died during a raid on a suspected metro and clark county animal control raided the property in northeast las vegas on a search warrant... and at some time during the operation the puppies died in a kennel. so far, metro has only confirmed that the puppies were on the property. they have not been able to tell us who was in charge of their well-being...and say the incident remains under investigation. an official with clark county is also looking into it. we'll bring you any updates as we get them./// ((christianne klein)) donald trump is spending a lot of time in florida -- a must win state in november. ((dave courvoisier)) >> today, trump pulled president obama into his war of words with hillary clinton. craig boswell has the latest from the white house. (pkg) (nats) donald trump courted voters in florida thursday the biggest prize of the battleground states. the republican presidential candidate criticized hillary clinton's economic plan. (sot donald trump, republican presidential candidate) maybe the greatest biggest tax increase in the history of our country. theory that the obama administration's policies allowed terrorist groups to grow. ((dave courvoisier)) >> the d-e-a remains at odds over marijuana... drawing a line between federal and state law. what today's news means for nevada... next./// the drug enforcement administration is putting its foot down on marijuana... saying it has no accepted medical use and has a high potential for abuse. this comes as several states including nevada... are looking at legalizing recreational weed. patrick walker takes a look at the effort. ((patrick walker)) over the last decade and a half... the legalization effort in the silver state and nationwide has come on the medical marijuana side. medical marijuana is legal 25 states and washington d-c... half the country. but while the d-e-a this week denied any medical benefits of cannabis... states are moving forward. nevada is one of five states that could legalize recreational marijuana this year... joining 4 other states and the district of columbia trying to get kids more involved in drugs, and i think it's probably the wrong way to go." annette magnus (off camera): "oh alan...")) ((chris maathuis)) be leaking out... three new names have emerged in the race to come up with a name and logo for the las vegas franchise. nhl owner bill foley says he's filed for trademark protection on night hawks, desert hawks and red hawks. but he also told me he is filing two other names.. but for protection purposes wouldn't reveal those names. ((chris maathuis)) we talked to the sleuth who found the names that foley was protecting with a trademark filing. clark rasmussen says he had a moment of inspiration. clark rasmussen/web troll: "so i was thinking about it this morning and had just but have knights in it sort of thing that foley talked about this week.. and i started going through the list of birds that are native to nevada and night hawks really jumped out on that list and i took a look to see if las vegas nighthawks.com available and it was already taken and it was registered to one of bill foley's companies."
