The committee and lawyers for the woman accusing judge Brett Kavanaugh of assault spending Thursday negotiating an appearance by Dr Christine bless you for negotiations are ongoing between the committee and Christine blazin Ford's legal team and 2 sources have confirmed to Fox the 3 conditions that her legal team is insisting on 1st they don't want any lawyers to do the questioning only members of the committee 2nd judge Kavanagh cannot be in the room and finally they want Cavanagh to go 1st but it seems at least one of those is a nonstarter a senior staffer told Fox It only makes sense for the accused to follow and respond to the charges Judge Kavanaugh would obviously follow Dr Ford Fox's Christian Fisher As for the president he spent the day stumping for candidates in the Vet of Thursday but not before making it clear he stands behind his nominee why didn't somebody call the f.b.i. 36 years ago I mean you could also say when did this all happen what's going on to take a man like this and research that with that being said let her have her say and let's see how it all works out Meanwhile Democrats are telling their Republican counterparts to slow down arguing Republicans are trying to rush the Kavanaugh confirmation for fear there might be more bad news what are they afraid of why not have the therapist and her husband come in her friend commit why not have Mark Judge testify under oath to the f.b.i. And then for the what are they afraid of asked the question what are they afraid of what is this White House afraid of them accredit Senator Kirsten Gillibrand 4 dead including the shooter in Maryland happened at a rite aid distribution center in Aberdeen Authorities say a woman working to open fire on her colleagues before turning the gun on herself Fox News fair and balanced. North Korea's Kim Jong on wants a 2nd summit with the United States with President Donald Trump because he wants to really quicken his Deen new gain but a key goal is declaring an end to the 1950 Korean War Let's check in with Howard Bloom the author of the Lucifer principle. I guess asking for a meeting is this good news or is just a trick it's a trick and it's a trick with tricks inside of it so here's what's happened in America's relationship with North Korean the last 2 days North Korea's Kim Jong un had a summit meeting in North Korea's capital Pyongyang with South Korea's president will enjoy in they share cold buckwheat noodles at one of the city's finer establishments a restaurant then the 2 leaders signed a 55 page agreement that agreement had 3 major snags snag number one North Korea's Kim Jong un said he would close his dong trying re missile testing center and launch pad but that may not be the great concession it was made out to be it looks like Kim was a close that center anyway after all North Korea has gone past the testing stage and seems to be mass producing long range ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads the new missiles don't need old fashioned launch pads like the ones at Dong Shangri there launchers are huge tractor trailer trucks more bio launchers it will be devilishly difficult for us to track snag Number 2 is the shocking news that Kim Jong un said he might also close his main nuclear weapons manufacturing facility is Yongbyon nuclear plant on the surface that sounds like a huge deal the on the a nuclear facility has 2000 centrifuges and more than 390 buildings the long beyond plant produces petroleum and highly enriched uranium for bombs but this concession also may not be what it seems the North Koreans dismantled 3 of the key buildings that Yongbyon in 2008 as part of an international the nuclearization agreement and that didn't stop the North from developing nuclear warheads in fact u.s. Intelligence estimate. North Korea now has between 20 and 60 nuclear warheads What's more the key buildings that young ban may have to be raised or placed with or without an agreement with the USA the plutonium production facility says one South Korean newspaper is dilapidated what's more North Korea may have developed nuclear weapons production facilities far away from the On ban conflicts but there's an even bigger snag this is a massive one snag number 3 Kim Jong un has said he will read himself of the you on b.n. Nuclear facility only if the United States takes corresponding actions so the big question is what corresponding actions Kim Jong un wants to return and official ends of the Korean War as you said is one thing but that's chump change it's a mere signature on paper there is something much much bigger the new $55.00 page agreement between the north and the south says that the grandparents a lot must be turned into a land of peace free from nuclear weapons and nuclear threats now nuclear threats come from every nuclear missile the United States owns and nuclear threats come from the plants that manufacture these nuclear weapons so my guess is that North Korea wants America to shut down its nuclear weapons manufacturing facilities and to shed its nuclear missiles meanwhile North Korea denounces the approach that Donald Trump is from 0 to the Trump approach calls for North Korea's immediate unilateral nuclear disarmament but wrote a long since Munk him Jones mouth these the nouns that just yesterday as gangster logic to repeat North Korea wants corresponding actions from the USA In other words North Korea is saying we'll shed our new nuclear program if you shed your hand that's not going to happen Howard thanks for the report the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged to its 1st record high since January gains in Apple Computer and a decrease in trade fears lifted the stock index Wells Fargo the bank plans to cut as many as 20. $6500.00 jobs over 3 years as a troubled bank grapples with the rise of online banking and shoring legal bills Jeff these olds will invest just over a 1000000000 dollars next year in blue origins new Glenn rocket program the company will also fly people into space this coming year he said Japan may by tomorrow be landing a couple Rovers on an asteroid pretty exciting news we'll follow up on that and what else is going on in the skies time for Peter Davenport u.f.o. Report this week I Peter George it's been a interesting week for u.f.o. Sighting reports it's been a rich harvest of reports this week perfect Yang woman writes from Peoria Illinois the last Friday the 14th of September she was walking across a parking lot in Peoria when 2 or amazement she saw 2 red lights rise from the horizon ascend almost perfectly vertically in a curve fashion across the night sky rise to apparently quite a considerable altitude turn white and just extinguished disappear from sight in the night sky to her great amazement that those 1st 2 were followed by a 3rd one of 4th one 5th one and all in all total 7 lights rose from the horizon and extinguished in the night sky she went home got her binoculars watched an airplane pass across the night sky to make sure it was not an aircraft which it obviously was not very interesting sighting we should have that posted some time tomorrow. 2 days later a gentleman was sitting outside on a chaise launch in Garland Utah and there's an attention was drawn to a v. Shaped formation of white lights in the daytime sky at 1st he assumed that it was just nothing but birds he got his binoculars to good high quality binoculars 153560 binoculars looked at them and they were not birds at all according to his report they were disc shaped highly reflective objects in a v. Shape pattern several minutes after the 1st cluster of objects disappeared from his sight he saw a 2nd cluster pass across is a time sky again very interesting report 2 nights ago a gentleman was out l County near Aberdeen Washington in the southwest corner of our state. He was camp by himself he has more or he's more brazen than I would be George he's right in the heart of what would be Big Foot country camping by himself in his pickup truck he lay down to go to sleep it was looking at the night sky suddenly saw red object appear between 2 very tall trees made him very uncomfortable he looked at it for a minute or so and suddenly just instantly it disappeared while he was watching that he spent the night 10 miles away in a park and ride parking lot. And last night near George Washington on Interstate 90 just east just make that west of the Columbia River gentleman professional driver with 4 years experience in u.s. Navy aviation saw a cluster of straw colored lights move across the sky he lost sight of them as he continued his drive to the west he then saw them a 2nd time and finally a 3rd time very interesting sighting and very convincing and finally my last report a few hours after that sighting near George Washington. Gentleman was camped on a golf course near Walnut Creek California and suddenly the entire golf course was lit up like it was daytime has no idea what it was and then he saw an object moving to the west has no idea what that object was but a very very interesting sighting I'll talk to you next week Peter and thanks for those reports in a few months it will be the 50th anniversary of Apollo 8 what's the significance of Apollo 8 next top science advisor and space historian Robert Zimmerman joins us to tell us all about Apollo 8. Rise It was an amazing story and who could forget their Christmas Eve broadcast I mean Albert. Or I and our own name calling back on Earth and around tomorrow I met a man and I really like him and then. God created me eminently or. Any I mean when I'm armed. And are now in when I'm on and I am the name. And I am God in my mind and I know 100 and God and then. There are many like and they are one my. God All right that was good. And I don't like them and are now. Coming or in an all night. In the morning when I bring. Another maid I'm not I'm at home watering the high water from a water. Car and a promise that I might have a word with her I'm. Born and when. I want to. Call them a minimum. And their name in the morning. And then after a while and I have. No one mind and let the trial and their. Common year I know and. Then entering an era of what are called a nice. Car then when. I'm around America. America. And God my volunteer army on x. . As amazing I was 18 years old when that happened was just pure magic and a miraculously all 3 astronauts are still with us while you Manders is about to be 85 in October Jim Lovell and Frank Borman are both 90 years old truly remarkable Well Robert Zimmerman space historian with us award winning science journalist one of his books Genesis the story of Apollo 8 that brings back amazing memories Robert doesn't it kind of always give it still every time I hear it I heard it when I was 16 and it it it it. You can't express how powerful was that moment in time you have to remember that these 3 guys were floating in a capsule circling in another world the 1st time humans went to another world and there were a 1000000000 people watching it was Christmas Eve That was the end of one king $6081.00 of the. Maybe ugliest is in the 20th century the United States who was definitely a difficult year with cessations and riots and more riots and riots at Democratic convention and you had Soviet Union of 80 Czechoslovakia and the Vietnam war. There Tet Offensive and again it was just a very very difficult year and then at the very end of the year 3 men. Agree to take a Saturn 5 rocket and go to the moon and the United States does it and we get him in orbit Christmas Eve and they read this message and nobody at NASA except for one person having to do with just organizing the broadcast the presentation nobody at NASA the management the engineers the politicians in the government no one knew what these guys were going to say they made the decision on their own to choose to do what they just as you just heard them do and they did not do it to preach religion they did it with a severe effort a very sincere effort to include as to express goodwill and to include as many people in the world as possible. I came in Jenin in Genesis start Apollo 8 I went into great I did great research to find out the history of how they came up with this and they struggled with it when Frank Borman. Was at a prison one of the 1st press conference is announcing that we're going to go to the moon and there's a lot to talk about with the risks involved that the press suddenly asked me you know you could be orbiting the moon Christmas Eve. You know you're going to telecast What are you going to say and he kind of stumbled because he hadn't thought of what they were going to say and even occurred to me said he's a jet pilot test pilot engineer you know astronaut he's not a literary intellectual in any way this doesn't mean he's not smart but it's not the way his mind dwells. So we called up the head press guy Julian Scherer NASA and this to give us a perspective how us society has changed this is the precise guy you know the ones who determine where press releases a given out what people say supposedly well woman asked him you have any suggestions and Janine Shia told him very bluntly. It is not my place to put words in your mouth it's very clear on that you've got to think it's on the say it's up to you your free American I'm not going to tell you you have responsibility to do the right thing but I'm not going to put your words in your mouth as I am a press guy but we don't do propaganda here is a human being what you want to say and so him and his 3 s. Not struggled for a very long time they asked the help of the friends who struggled with the issue just as much and the story is a great story I don't know if it's going to have 20 minutes top giving the details there but the key is that they decided they can't do just a Christmas message they can't do anything that sounded too Christian they had to come up with something that would include that would express the majesty of the moment and the significance historically of the moment and this is what they've actually came up with and I think it was truly example of American goodwill and then the best of our nation trying to include as many people as possible in the message and. If it rang through the country I have to say one of the reasons I wrote general store of Apollo 8 I wrote it 20 years ago it's been in print for 20 years we just released it audiobook of it because it's confused still one of the reasons I wrote it is because that mission had a much greater. Much greater a cultural impact on the United States and the actual landing and I lived that time and I remember how things seem to change the perspective and what was considered important after the mission was different from what was considered important beforehand that Earthrise that these guys saw in the Bill and his photograph is one of the most influential pictures 7 taken all it was through the eyes on the Whole Earth Catalog inside page for years this is an environmental publication hold on for a 2nd Robert we're at the breaking. Welcome back space historian Robert Zimmerman with us his Web site is behind the black dot com linked up at coast to coast am dot com I guess Robert back in 1492 those people who were with Christopher Columbus probably kept saying God what a great time to live look we've witnessed and it was amazing for them at the time but look what we've been through Robert in our age right now well you know you mentioned high abuse it to go dropping landers on to you to right now yeah about 50 years ago I got up on the behind the black the images that downloading even as we speak about once an hour a new image comes down I've got up on the page the most recent image which you can actually see the shadow of the spacecraft on right you do we did sell a pen as it gets ready to drop the mini Landa and this is only they'll be more images coming in the next 24 hours they get even closer and closer it's just it's a great time it's remorse it's always a great time to live as long as people have courage courage the important word you talked about the that quote from Jim Lovell. About there is a Santa Clause has a great deal to do with the real courage that it required to do the Apollo 8 mission to the moon and that's what creates these kind of spectacular things the courage and insistence on doing the best you can possibly can you imagine what it was like for those 3 astronauts to see the far side of them on. God Everything about it was Dick it was amazing a spectacular in the words they said you know the danger this mission must be emphasized before they launched this mission was going without the lunar module it wasn't ready in time and we had already lost the 3 astronauts in Apollo one before that that's right you had a failure before. That only 2 years earlier a year and a half plus on top of that the Saturn 5 rocket had never carried human beings before they had been to test unmanned launches one of which at problems and that was actually the last launch of the Saturn 5 so this was the 3rd launch after the 2nd had problems never put people on it they they did not have the lunar module now the whole plan was they would never leave Earth orbit without the lunar module because that acts as a lifeboat backup if something goes wrong with the Apollo capsule and service module you've got a lunar module on that which saves them in Apollo 13 exactly right what happened in Apollo 13 to use the lunar module to come alive and you know Jim Lovell was on that mission as well he was on both the natural that it happens on Apollo 8 he and the crew would have been that about within an hour yes but a minute out so they were making a choice they were taking it all much chance and in fact the wife of Frank Borman did not think they were going to come back alive was very very concerned she didn't want to say no to the mission she knew the importance of it politically for his career for any number of reasons but she was really scared and so Frank Frank Borman asked Chris Craft who is head of the manned spy fund to Space Flight Center in Houston to talk that they were friends and he tried to reassure her by telling her that they think the odds are as good as 5050. So they launched this mission thinking the odds were 5050 that they're going to make it and they that they were going to make it that's correct those are good office often gives you the idea so now that moment in time you mentioned before about Jim Lovell saying there is a Santa Clause out happened is they went when they were in all but around the moon they had a single engine that in the service module that would get them out of orbit if that engine failed that wasn't overdone to see to it and they went behind the moon after 20 hours in a little bit reading from the Bible giving us a description of the far side how strange it looked they went behind the moon and they were going to fire the engine no one would know if it worked until they came around on the other side they were out of touch with everybody and the 1st words we heard were Jim Lovell saying is a Santa Claus telling us telling his family his wife his and his kids everybody that they're going to come home some people thought he meant that they saw you a fullback No no that was not what he meant and everybody in the crew knew exactly the families on the boat at home knew exactly what he meant you know you mentioned they all 3 men are still alive amazingly all 3 are still married to their high schools we saw Isn't that something that is they can have a reunion in fact about 2 weeks I'm going are you trying to tape that can you know I won't be able to you can't interview them I may not talk to them but I might have a chance to do that kind of stuff that's not the point I ask them this if they would pop on the show with you and a selected date I can ask but I can tell you that's unlikely to happen why I wish it could they are for still getting old and 2nd of all this is the 50th anniversary this year this mission that time is very precious to them right now but yes I could not say no never heard I'm just I don't want to get hopes up that's all right you know we will promote it Apollo with the the 50th anniversary in the release of the audio book of Genesis star of Apollo 8. We it's been we want their help and they want to give it but they have only so much time to give and they've given some and that's been very gratefully appreciated but they only have so much time yeah but it is amazing 859090 Yes I mean you know these guys and all Germans going strong Oh yeah you know it is. Bless their hearts as best I can say I mean it's amazing thing they stated something great and they've stood the test of time over time and we're going on fortunately and all the those great people are going step by step and the great tragedy is when not that yet that they would have never imagined in 1968 that 50 years would pass and we would not have been can you imagine Robert if we continued to would have gone back to the moment after 50 years what would it piece like right now technologically on the moon would we have bases cities what would we have well it all 50 years later it all comes down to how you do it and if you the way we've been trying to do for the last half century that didn't happen and that's why not much would have gotten happened if because we didn't continue we we went the wrong route and last 50 years what is beginning to happen now is exactly the right route and it imagining right now what's going on with rockets and private companies and the competition to do better will cost 50 years from now we're going to have multiple places on the moon we're going to have a thriving thriving spacefaring community and I am a space telescope a hotel up there without question they'll be hotels in all bits I'll be I'll tell them if the question that's going to be happening you will be left to have the money but you will be able to buy a ticket to go to the moon in 50 years I have no doubt about that I wonder how long it would take dominoes to get you a pizza up there well they'd probably have a pizza joint on the moon you know I should have delivered for my. Say that's not a bad friend just every major chain fast food chain major hotel is going to want to get their hotel established once these this that's going to be if it's done properly private companies come creating for profit they're going to want more seasons on the moon thrown in to do it be fantastic now with Apollo 8 after the mission was accomplished in they came home we went through $910.00 and then of course 11 landed on the moon what was it like what happened in between. Well for these 3 men the world had in many ways changed them because they were now incredibly famous and one's own model in a Norman once they partnered in Jim and I well know that Jim Lovell and Frank Borman had had been partnered on the Gemini 7 mission and they spent 2 weeks all right and a capsule that was back 4 years or 3 years earlier but after this Frank Bullard decided this would be as last space mission Bill and this thought he might fly but he wasn't interested in flying unless he could land on the moon and there weren't going to be any moon lunar landings for him there were just war no flights left so he decided to leave the program he got he got positions of importance within the Nixon administration and then he moved on to become. The c.e.o. Of General Dynamics during a very important time to bring them major contracting business for the government Jim Lovell he wanted to fly again and of course he went to Apollo 13 and at the after that mission of course the Apollo program was Diet Coke in a way and he was going to get another mission so he moved on as well do other things they they all were able to make big livings in the corporate world after Bohrman went to Eastern Airlines Dinny he ended up in charge of Eastern Airlines and had a major it was he as he said in his own biography it was the only battle of the last he was trying to get that company back on its feet but in order to do that he had to fight the unions the unions didn't want to fight go along and he lost that battle there but the company went bankrupt and it was the only battle they have lost he said after that he would he's opened up a car dealership in Corpus Christi which was I know still that still operate is that where he lives now I think so yeah. It's pretty dramatic if these guys did something that cannot be measured and once again that you know Bill Lanza says his wife was that the real hero of the mission because when he got the call that they were going to try to go to the moon without the lamb and. You know with the Saturn 5 that no human ever flown before he said any no it was a 5050 chance he asked his wife Valerie Well can I go because they have 5 small children on the age of 10 and this they didn't make a lot of money than they were making what we considered up a middle class not even a very big upper class salaries and so if she if he died she would be in real trouble so he wasn't going to go she said no and she said aw to quickly you're asked to go this is what you've been working for it's important for the nation. And you're going to go she altered to go in a sense and he considers her to be the real hero and I agree and all the wives were the real heroes because they stay were totally supportive knowing the risks knowing the risk it's interesting Valerie and it's told me that the interesting thing is that she actually considered him being in the space program a safer place to be as a military guy than in Vietnam at the time and so she accepted the risks knowing that they actually had picked a safer job as an astronaut than peanut jet pilot in in a military operation in Vietnam and you can see I can see her perspective I remember in high school Robert we all wanted to be astronauts and everybody did well you know that was a you know that's an interesting thing about the cultural change with Apollo 8 because after Apollo 8 the enthusiasm space exploration kind of faded a lot of it was the fault of Apollo late because of the mid and the images these guys work back and the words they express about the stock. As I call it scroll like terrain they saw this and is born and said This is not hospitable place to work I think put a pinprick in the enthusiasm of space it really for a culture at that time I think it was one of the factors and the focus as exciting as the mission was to get as exciting as the mission without question I mean you know we wanted to win the space race and beat the Russians to the moon and the Apollo 11 landing actually did that but the nation kind of lost interest and part of it was once again this was a government program run by the government using tax dollars and that's not the culture of the United States and so after they landed on the moon I think many people said Ok we compost we won it we won the race that was the political purpose of this but we don't want to have a tax dollars do this and what the public really want to do then was what we're getting now private enterprise not financed by tax dollars that of course but by people who are voluntary a willing to spend the money that's what the public then wanted that's the culture of the United States and with the government program it's not that way and so the public eye even then they will all of the American public has always been excited by space exploration but they've always been have lukewarm support for the idea of a government program it's one of the reasons for example shuttle never really got the same kind of excitement that these missions did well as much as space x. Is launches get Space X.'s launches everybody knows about I'm astonished how many people know about those those 1st stage landings and following it because that's really exciting and it's something that they're doing on their own without tax dollars and they're making profit from it and they're free to do what they want and at the pending on a government program tell me what they want to do you know I must follow his own dreams and that's just beautiful and famous Jeff easels Faisal's at Amazon has found his own dream and they're going to take people into space to do what they want to do and that excites p. Because all my gosh we're seeing multiple dreams by individuals following what they want to do and it excites the country that's our culture that's who we are are they going to make money with the space well space x. Is making hand over fist money for example this year so far they've launched 16 launches last year they did 18 they make between 50 and 100000000 prolonging. It per launch that's the that's the that's the what they're paid that's not the profit but that's what they're paid so their revenues from those what is that almost as a sum effect $34.00 launches is is what $1000000000.00 will you know $2000000000.00 of revenue now of course they had their expenses but since they have learned what they're doing the costs keep dropping for them they reduce the price somewhat for the launches but not as when they started to do reusable 1st stages but they didn't drop it very much they make they saving enormous amount of money but they don't have to drop the price very much because nobody can beat what the price is right now so they can pocket the savings of those reuse 1st stage and that's exactly what they're doing and that's what they're using they're investing some of that money into building their big Falcon rocket which will which will. Which will make every rocket ever built. Look like chicken What do you think of the Japanese technology if they can land on an asteroid there check out a way behind are they really a planetary probes are one kind of a robot technology that is you know it's hard to do and they're doing a very good job now but they're way behind they don't have manned capability that rockets are too expensive they have a lot of problems. Innovating right now they head of the Russians I'm sorry they had of the Russians no no if you want to list who's in lead it right now I would say the u.s. And China are about tied the Russians off. Fading badly. Behind them I would actually include the United Launch a Launch Alliance and United States might be matching the Russians right now if not topping them then I go to Europe and then India India is amazed India my Indian Japan are run like the 2nd tier and they're competing with each other and they might move up into a 1st year in the next year especially India not Japan but especially India because they ought to trying to develop rockets they're going to do a manned program into a manned mission in 2022 is difficult right now and they have they're installing the comput they're building the components to make that happen and they've already done some test flights of one test flight capsule re entry system and so they are moving towards that and so in the next decade you're going to see those of the countries you can. He rushes Oh it's Ok there because they're in the Right now they're almost becoming a 3rd world how it comes States which is an issue how could China have matched us already in Iraq about you did he walk about I keep a track of the launches and per year and 3 years ago quit 6 years ago China was like India and Japan and a 2nd tier are you know small number of launches but in the last 5 years they have upped the numbers right now they are leading the world a number of launches this year and they've done 25 launches this year which is you know everybody the u.s. Is one behind and they're going to probably do so he launches at least 40 and they were open to 40 and they might do that more to come with the record will be back with you in just a moment on coast to coast am with your calls.
